Jews, especially those who don't support Palestinians, must be expelled, demanded Students Representative Council at South African university
The Daily News of Durban, South Africa (Mpathi Nxumalo) reports:
Jewish students at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) who supported the State of Israel should be kicked out, the Students Representative Council (SRC) has demanded….
The vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Ahmed Bawa, said the demand by the SRC and the Progressive Youth Alliance that the DUT deregister all Jewish students "is totally unacceptable".
The Secretary of the SRC, Mqondisi Duma, said: "As the SRC, we had a meeting and analysed international politics. We took the decision that Jewish students, especially those who do not support the Palestinian struggle, should deregister."
This understandably led to a furor, and the Times Live (South Africa) has just reported that the student government now says that it "apologises without reservation to anyone offended by recent demands made by us regarding Jewish students." Decide for yourselves whether this represents a genuine retraction of the notion that Jewish students should be treated differently from others, or whether the original statement better captures the organization leaders' true beliefs.
