Magatte Wade: The Real Reasons Why Africa Is Poor and Why It Matters
The author discusses how cryptocurrencies are helping people like her build the Africa—and the world—they want.

Did you know that by 2050, a quarter of the planet's population will reside in Africa? Yet despite abundant natural resources and a young and ambitious population, the continent remains the poorest of them all.
Born in Senegal and now residing in Austin, Texas, Magatte Wade is director of the Center for African Prosperity at the Atlas Network, a nonprofit that supports think tanks and activist groups in the developing world. A serial entrepreneur, she's currently the CEO (and founder) of SkinIsSkin, which sells a series of skin and lip products sourced in Africa.
Wade is also the author of the new memoir and manifesto, The Heart of a Cheetah: How We Have Been Lied To about African Poverty, and What That Means for Human Flourishing. She claims the solution to Africa's problems lies with what her mentor, the late economist George Ayittey, called "the cheetah generation," young Africans who embrace free markets, individualism, human rights, and transparency in government.
Reason's Nick Gillespie sat down with Wade to discuss her book, "conscious capitalism," charter cities, and how cryptocurrencies are helping people like her build the Africa—and the world—they want.

Again, a transcript would be nice.
"Think tanks and activist organizations", along with the other do-gooder NGOs, represent the second-worst leech on the flow of aid to Africa, second only to corrupt governments themselves.
I say this without concrete evidence, but with many examples, as the money directed to the homeless problem or the vast funds channeled to end/improve "urban poverty". The money always seems to first fund nice, 6-figure jobs for right-minded folks in the donor class, their friends and children. Say that never happens. Go ahead. Say it doesn't work that way for foreign projects.
Peter Bauer proved this and Easterley brought that up-to-date

But it was O. Ekeocha who puts much of it on Obama and Biden.I can see nothing to quibble with in what she says
"Whenever you hear, or whenever one sees in the news, problems in Africa — things like drought, things like famine, you know, all these kinds of catastrophes — the one thing that remains resilient, whether this is from the religious point of view or not, is the family. Before even religion (which was something that came to Africa later, during the time of colonialization), first and foremost, the Africans value family and what makes family: a marriage; and what is within marriage: man, woman and children. So all of these things in practice form the core of African society. That is why we have less divorce, and that is why we have more openness to life — these things come first culturally.
But … a lot of Africans are also religious. Let’s just say that when religion came to us, it would have felt consistent with our cultural values. So [in] a lot of places you have very strong Christian populations, and in some other places, you have very strong Muslim populations. But what we hold in common is this value for family life. And if the family life is valued, then, yes, things like abortion are seen as abominations, as taboo, as horrific. … It always is an ugly thing in the minds of people that a mother could ever kill her own, be it before birth, be it after birth — it’s all the same thing: that is, horrific."
African are incapable of self-governance.Name one stable, prosperous African nation
They don't have the IQ for it and IQ is genetic.
Both false. and BTW the breeding of the very intelligent regresses to the mean
"
The law of regression tells heavily against the full hereditary transmission of any gift. Only a few out of many children would be likely to differ from medioc- rity as widely as their mid-parent, and still fewer would differ as widely as the more exceptional of the two parents."
So,you know sht
Many African nations were German colonies at a time when Germany held the patent on Heroin and needed dumping-grounds for morphine derivatives. China used boycotts to enlist the US to pressure for a Hague Convention, and after 1911 enforced an absolute ban on narcotic dumping. To German pharma cartels, that left African colonies as likely places to absorb the glut. HIV epidemic maps made after invasions of Afghanistan LOOK like they emanate largely from former German colonies. But other Europeans also dumped narcotics there so, the lines are blurry.
You don't paint them as blurry !!
Are you part of the crowd that tries to get writers on colonialism fired.
Surely, you remember the definitive book on your topid
In Defense of German Colonialism: And How Its Critics Empowered Nazis, Communists, and the Enemies of the West Hardcover – , 2022
by Bruce Gilley
Much of what you say is just WRONG
Typical review
"Wow! This book blew my mind. Get ready for the biggest reversal on a topic that you'll likely ever experience! I knew I liked Prof Gilley's work because I'd read his groundbreaking essay "The Case for Colonialism," and his response to his critics. But this book delivered a lot more of what that essay was just an appetizer for--a main course in pro-colonialism historiography.
Of course, we've all heard how evil and terrible the period of European colonialism was. One might wonder why publish papers and books promoting colonialism, seems rather out of step with the times, right? Well, Professor Gilley's personal story of how he came to see colonial history differently is rather enlightening. Professor Gilley is a Political Science professor specializing in democracy, legitimacy, global politics, and comparative politics of China and Asia. He was surprised by how many historical documents and testimonies from the colonial period had glowing praise for this, the great sin of European Chauvinism. How could key African scholars and political leaders have such great things to say about their own conquest?
"
You want to say something true talk about IBM and IG Farben creating the concentration camps.
Yes, you are profoundly ignorant.
That is just a lazy man's cut-and-paste of anti-Bruce-Gilley bullshit
Have some self-respect and stop cut-and-pasting

I wonder how the people would have done a century or two ago if no govt. was allowed after the colonists left. Then, foreigners coming with assets to exploit the natural resources employed locals. Some locals would have used the new knowledge they gained by watching the businesspersons who employed them. Without taxation, regulation, how would they have done? Socialists say they would have been exploited by the uncontrolled capitalists because people can't protect themselves and need "strong leaders", i.e., violent over lords who violate everyone's rights and can't be stopped because they have a system that exempts them from morality. So, the very exploitation socialists claim they prevent, thrives under socialism. Does this prove to socialists that people should self-govern? Hell no!
They can't conceive of universal freedom, voluntary cooperation, rights. Everyone must be CONTROLLED, or by definition they are out of control, chaotic. What if socialism has always been chaotic? That's because the leaders "didn't do it right". After 10,000 years of failures, they will "do it right", with one more try.
So, take the positive side, voluntaryist !!!
Plant your flag on “all men are created equal, endowed by their Creator with unalienable rights, and governemtn exists to PROTECT these rights”
I have been scouring this site devoted to freedom and nary a single praise for the UN Declaration on Human Rights !! How explain that.
All sorts of trendy anti-colonialism talk, lots of bullsht about the Enlightenment as if American protection of religion was anti-Enlightenment.
All true, maybe but others would point to the abortion and homosexual predations of Obama and Biden as the real force against Africa. Even in the US , black women get abortions at 6X the rate of others. Must make the KLan envious that PP could do wht they tried so hard to do.
Here is the main speaker fo Africa's real problems:
Obianuju Ekeocha, founder and president of Culture of Life Africa

Magatte Wade’s perspective on Africa’s poverty likely addresses factors like colonial legacy, corruption, governance issues, conflict, lack of infrastructure, educational and healthcare challenges, and external influences. She emphasizes the need to address these issues for sustainable development and prosperity in Africa.
