Trump's Fake News
Deep breaths and fact-checking might save America.
Donald Trump tends to call whatever he dislikes "fake news," from inconvenient facts to unfavorable reporting. Even though the President himself is less a font of truth and more a spigot of self-serving exaggeration and insults.
But Trump isn't all wrong when he labels reporting against him as fictitious or slanted. Reporters have become so enraged with the President that in their hurry to lambaste him, they sometimes forget about fact checking and standard quality controls.
Here are just a few stories which turned out to be exaggerated or wrong.
- CNN: Trump's healthcare plan would qualify rape as a preexisting condition
- ABC: Trump instructed Michael Flynn to contact Russian officials during the campaign
- WSJ: Mueller subpoenaed Trump's financial records from Deutsche Bank
- Washington Post: Trump's Florida rally was all but empty
- CNN: Trump accessed stolen DNC emails nine days before WikiLeaks released them
- MSNBC: America's ambassador to Panama quit over Trump's "shithole" comments
The result is that actual "fake news" is slipping into major news outlets. When hit pieces turn out to be false, they bolster Trump's claims about the media and discredit journalists in the eyes of his supporters.
In the latest "Mostly Weekly" Andrew Heaton explains the relationship between "Trump Derangement Syndrome," fake news, and a solution for the media.
Mostly Weekly is hosted by Andrew Heaton, with headwriter Sarah Rose Siskind.
Script by Sarah Rose Siskind with writing assistance from Andrew Heaton and Brian Sack.
Special guest appearance by Brian Sack as "TV doctor"
Edited by Austin Bragg and Siskind.
Produced by Meredith and Austin Bragg.

The solution for the media is to stop going into journalism hoping to "change the world" and stop letting your political biases, whatever they are, cause you to root for one side or the other. If you don't give a shit which side wins, you are a hell of a lot more likely to tell the truth whatever it is.
I don't care about bias. I care about the media falsely claiming they are unbiased.
That too. And bias would not be such a big deal if they were not so arrogant and at least tried to overcome the confirmation bias that always comes with political bias. Basically, they will believe and print anything that confirms their backward prejudices and do everything they can to suppress and deny any fact that doesn't.
Just like this website. Just like every media outlet anywhere. There's no such thing as unbiased reporting, because there's no such thing as unbiased PEOPLE.
The problem is not that the media is 'rightist' or 'leftist'. The problem is that the media is CORPORATE, and exists only because of the potential for profit. Journalism is dead. What we have left is 'marketing' and 'public relations'.
If we had a 'leftist' media, they would have been all over Bernie's campaign from the moment he announced, as opposed to utterly ignoring him until they HAD to talk about his debates with Queen Hillary. But no. They ignored his campaign, because their corporate task-masters were worried that his attacks on campaign finance deregulation would end their sweet sweet gravy train of PAC billions.

It is not even that it is corporate. It is that they love power and status more than anything. They loved Hillary and hated Bernie because Hillary had power and Bernie didn't. They will do anything to get close to power. Even with people, they claim to hate, eventually, they come around to sucking up to them just to be around power and feel important. Look at how they treat George Bush now that he is out of office? They kiss his ass all the time even after spending 8 years claiming he was the Hitler. Power eventually wins out with them. Look at how they are kissing the FBI and IC's asses over the Russia thing.
I'm making over $7k a month working part time. I kept hearing other people tell me how much money they can make online so I decided to look into it. Well, it was all true and has totally changed my life.
This is what I do... http://www.onlinecareer10.com
Nobody ignored Saint Bernie. He lost the primary because he didn't get enough votes. He got, if anything, more attention than he deserved considering his status as a fringe loon, but it just happened that it was a small field. In a normal year it would be like whining that Dennis Kucinich didn't get enough press. It's teh media conspiracy!
You mean that Saint Bertie lost because the DNC was colluding with the Hillary Clinton campaign to undermine democracy was super delegates then turn the democratic party nomination into a plutocracy.
A fine effort. Could use a little more in the way of death threats to poll workers and their families to get the true Bernie bro spirit.
It's basically he same way Trump won, but without the Evil Russian Menace!
That is simply not so. From the time Bernie announced in April of '15, nobody in the corporate press acknowledged noticing that fact. Not one major broadcast news station bothered to report on that.
Neither ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, or FOXNEWS saw fit to air any stories about Bernie's campaign 'till just before the first Democratic primary debates in October.
Trump, on the other hand was mentioned EVERY DAY. Because...ratings.
Hillary was always going to be the nominee, so Bernie was just as much of a sideshow as Trump, until Trump got the nomination. Then I agree the media really crapped its pants on that one.
That just shows you how much more effective and evil the collusion against Bernie was.
Because all of us good people know that Bernie was really supposed to win the election. This is known.
Which is why it makes perfect sense to do Bernie 2020: Electric Boogaloo, as we aren't sufficiently aware of just how butthurt his weird little followers are, and we will be made aware even if it takes 4 years of President Pence to do so.
When did the Bernie Bros host their Scream At The Sky event, over their unique butthurt?
Seriously, there's a certain lack of self-reflection when a Vocal Hillary supporter in 2018 has a problem with the Bernie Bros not moving on quick enough.
Losing the primary and the general are two different things. One actually majorly affects the future of the country. The other is just about fanboys being butthurt.
What I mean by that is when was the last time the fans of a loser of a primary went on for so many many months about it? Lots of people really liked Howard Dean, but when he was done, he was done. Presumably there are some Santorum folks who managed to get over his devastating loss with relative ease.
You realize you just said two completely different things, while saying the second is what you meant by the first, right?
Presumably primaries affect elections.
and exists only because of the potential for profit
LOL
Government media is so much less biased, am I right?
Government media? You mean like the 'Voice of America'? No, that is intentionally biased toward corporate crony capitalism and away from freedom and liberty.
He was probably thinking of NPR and public television which are the only alternative to a profit-based model for delivering any type of media content. When you graduate the 5th grade and learn what a corporation is it will probably make more sense to you.
The media isn't just based anymore. Many new outlets are downright seditious, and many of the people at said outlets should be prosecuted for it.
Right. I'd settle for a little self-awareness and intellectual honesty from reporters. Make a disclaimer about conflicts of interest. Interview the opposition. Care about "helping the people" by fairly telling them what's going on. They can have personal biases. Upton Sinclair was appalled at the working conditions in meat industries, and his expose also illustrated the horrible sanitary conditions. Nobody cared about the workers. They cared about their meat; the knowledge still got out there. The same man also warned against sensationalist yellow journalism, which is essentially what our media has again devolved into.
If you really take a look at media history, 'yellow journalism' never really went anywhere. It's more like the standard operating procedure of journalism.
Those cases of true investigative reporting are the exception, rather than the rule.
Yes. Bias in inevitable, but I think that we as consumers are more than able to determine what the bias is of most organizations.
The weird thing is that so many major outlets have the exact same bias. Maybe it's just a coincidence that so many of them are owned by a single uber-wealthy individual with their own axe to grind. I'm sure it's also just a coincidence that their news outlets happen to take the slant that agree's with the owners ideals.
Not that this is different, of course. It's been that way since at least the days of Hurst.
The left has taken over the liberal arts schools, and journalists tend now to have journalism degrees, so they're products of left-wing indoctrination to begin with.
Real sources of news do so by adhering to long-established standards of reporting, including an appreciation of objectivity and evidence. Being human, they often screw up. But there's a difference between that and an unabashed propaganda outfit claiming to be "fair and balanced."
The split in the media evolved from the fact that Republicans didn't like it that their failures were being reported on honestly. And isn't a direct effort to indoctrinate the country worse than the fact that professional journalists tend to be liberal (just like most people in these kinds of professions)?
That's actually a fairly new thing. 19th century newspapers are incredibly partisan. They make today's news seem insanely balanced by comparison. Objectivity only became a journalistic goal in the 20th century. And it was in large part due to the creation of independent news sources like AP and Reuters.
And I happen to think that was a good innovation.
And it's a goal they have mostly failed at, but I will lay at least part of the blame on the consuming public since it seems there's a real taste for the 'clickbait' style of journalism. In fact, it appears that's always been what most people want. Salacious details and rage topics galore. Hit n' Run certainly isn't immune.
There are usually a few good news outlets that try to keep their editorializing on the editorial page, but there are not a lot of them since the business model favors those who heavily editorialize throughout the publication.
And isn't a direct effort to indoctrinate the country worse than the fact that professional journalists tend to be liberal (just like most people in these kinds of professions)?
It's the same actually. Bill Clinton's press secretary is in charge of ABC News. The guy who went on national television and actually said "The president has kept all the promises he intended to keep" is reporting the news. And we all have to pretend to admire his clothes while we gaze upon his shriveled little cock on the rare occasions when it's not in your mouth.
Ironically I suppose that the many former presidential press secretaries who work for FOX News are some of their more rational voices.
All one of them (Dana Perino) that works as a guest contributor on opinion shows and doesn't report the news or set the editorial policy?
Okay so George Snuffleupagus means FOX News is straight reporting and definitely not propaganda.
It means your retarded false equivalence is both retarded and a false equivalence. There's a big difference between having a professed partisan bias in an opinion show and having a professed partisan bias whilst pretending to be a non-partisan journalist. There's an even bigger difference between having career partisans as guests on a partisan opinion show and having career partisans in charge of the news desk at a national network TV station. You think Sean Hannity having Dana Perino as a guest on his commentary and opinion program where his partisanship is out front and acknowledged constitutes dirty propaganda but having a Democratic president's press secretary in charge of the "straight news" is just reality having a liberal bias.
And btw Fox News has Shepard Smith doing their "straight news". Not only a partisan Democrat but also (ironically enough) a faggot.
Dana Perino is on an opinion show. She does NOT work in their news division. In fact, The opinion shows are based out of Fox's NY location. Their hard news people work at their WA DC studios.
I can see where Tony gets confused, as no such distinctions are made at places like MSNBC.
""The split in the media evolved from the fact that Republicans didn't like it that their failures were being reported on honestly."
Bullshit. the media has been leftist and lying for decades before Fox News came into existence in the 90's. As you are a communist scumbag, you are a beneficiary of their lies. This is why you are lying now.
Just another reason you are so hated, and are so valueless. You malignant red diaper baby piece of shit.
Everyone has a bias. But hardly anyone has the bias you think they have. There is no "liberal bias" in media. One study showed that he most balanced partisan news reporting, based on topic coverage and adjectives used and stuff, was ... wait for it ... NPR.
What media has is a different bias. It has a pro big government bias. For some small government conservatives (as rare as they are nowadays) that may seem like a liberal bias, but get into non-partisan local news coverage, and the big government bias is just as strong. Government is the SOURCE of most news, so reporters are friendly to politicos who supply them with news. Human beings are naturally inflicted with the "we must do something" bias towards government action, and reporters are human beings just like everyone else.
What conservatives see as a liberal bias is just their own confirmation bias. They see the reporting on the need for social planning by the government, but they overlook the reporting on the need for military interventions across the globe. They see that reporting that doesn't validate their team colors, and ignore that reporting that does.
One study showed that he most balanced partisan news reporting, based on topic coverage and adjectives used and stuff, was ... wait for it ... NPR.
Working backward from your premise to a conclusion by selectively looking at grammar without regard for context technically qualifies as a "study" in the narrowest sense. And apparently it's plenty good enough to suffice for total fucking morons who want to believe it.
What conservatives see as a liberal bias is just their own confirmation bias. They see the reporting on the need for social planning by the government, but they overlook the reporting on the need for military interventions across the globe.
A subset of conservatives called Neoconservatives support global military interventions but by no means is that representative of the whole movement and is utterly divorced from its philosophical roots. Also that only happens when Democrats are in the white house. The entire mainstream news media excoriated Bush every day for 6 years about the Iraq war and then spent 8 years waiting their turn right behind you to suck Obama's cock while 4,000 men were killed in Afghanistan. It would be more accurate to say the media doesn't have a liberal bias, it has a Democratic Party bias. 7% of journalists are Republican. But yeah it's totally a conservative meme that the media is in the tank for one party because your half remembered study about adjectives.
but they overlook the reporting on the need for military interventions across the globe.
Citation, please.
Where you have people, you have bias. I object to the fandance of outlets like NYT or Washington Post, that don't have the ethics to declare themselves a lobbying arm of the democrat party. Mother Jones I respect. Hate them, but respect their unapologetic left of China leanings as they aren't trying to pump smoke. That said, the biggest bias to tie us in knots as consumers of reporting is omissions. I recall the LA Times developed a consistent repeatable pattern through the 90's where real questions & unpleasant facts were only explored in the first week after the polls closed. The content was always crucial, and election outcomes were tipped by using the calendar as a weapon, dumping information they had well in hand a good 2 or 3 weeks before election day. The other 51 weeks of print were pravda lite, with only an occasional accidental act of journalism. I abandoned the state, after seeing Willie Brown in action: the creation of pure shakedown legislation where bills were intentionally bad for the purpose of making lobbyists pop out of the woodwork to throw cash at the assembly to make it go away was sickening. Once his $70k spy room was discovered [built on state property using tax dollars in service to the democrat party only] and became known... I can't fathom why anyone stays in such a cesspool. Not so much as a grand jury convened for misappropriation and the grand theft it represented. It takes a committee to get away with proverbial murder.
You are absolutely right.
On this occasion, I suggest you go and learn more about this topic at https://uang-indonesia.mobi
Waste Removal London Enjoyed reading the article above , really explains everything in detail, the article is very interesting and effective.
Propagandists gotta propagandize.
"Pussy Hat Rash"
Fake news existed long before Trump's presidential aspirations
^^^
Fake news is part of the reason you could say created the conditions for a Trump to win.
Yes
The seeds started decades ago when McCarthy was unfairly discredited and marxists started to slowly gain real power. We are now seeing the fruits of this malignancy in Hollywood, the media, federal civilian employees, our universities, etc.. Coincidentally, all are places where McCarthy was trying to root out the subversives. What a surprise.
Trump invented the term, you liar. I suppose next your TDS will lead you to claim he didn't invent the term "priming the pump", either. Or that he's not a better golfer than 90% of the tour pros. You Hillary supporters make me sick.
The stupid, it burns. Fake news was first used in 1891, although the huge modern spike in the term started in November 2016, well before Trump was even a dream of a candidate. And, that's even from HuffPo.
Impeach THAT source, Jerry.
Actually a great article about the 2016 burst of fake news on the internet:
Not partisan politics. People were making bank from posting outrageous stories on the facebooks. (via BBC)
Check your sarcasm meter. "better golfer than 90% of tour pros"?
Maybe it's just me, but it seems like there's a lot of broken sarcasm meters lately.
actually its okay to respond to sarcasm with facts since I've encountered people who have taken sarcasm as fact. I've seen it from the satirical news sites of all places quoted as fact
"Maybe it's just me, but it seems like there's a lot of broken sarcasm meters lately."
Now what in the hell is that supposed to mean?!
the term started in November 2016, well before Trump was even a dream of a candidate.
He wasn't "even a dream of a candidate" in November 2016? Umm... OK...
It is my understanding that Trump didn't invent the term. He just turned it around and used it on the media. The media invented the term to attack Trump. And like so many of their attacks on Trump, it boomeranged back on them.
Vulgar propaganda tactic hardly worthy of praising. Republicans are especially good at the switcharoo thing.
I'm surprised they haven't started referring to white billionaires as "dreamers."
Republicans are especially good at the switcharoo thing.
You're an especially bad liar even though you do it all the time. You'd think you might improve with repetition. Of course Democrats are especially good at telling the same lies over and over again. You're literally copying exact terms used in the 1930s.
The stupid, it burns. Fake news was first used in 1891, although the huge modern spike in the term started in November 2016, well before Trump was even a dream of a candidate.
You mean the month he was elected president you stupid fucking prick? The stupid burns alright. Holy fuck.
Putting two words together is hardly a unique invention. Just like I've found a number of original ideas I came up with were already independently thought up by third parties.
Reporters have become so enraged with the President that in their hurry to lambaste him, they sometimes forget about fact checking and standard quality controls.
Drumpf turned journalists into lazy left-wing assholes.
Washington Post: Trump's Florida rally was all but empty
Here's a perfect example of a reporter with zero signs of mental illness prior to the Dotard Nazi.
headwriter
Reason itself succumbed to the pressure early on, posting that fake news story about an Iraqi mother who died because of Trump's Muslim ban.
Shikha wrote a whole article based on parody Tweet.
You're giving her too much credit for calling it an article.
Maybe I am just old school or a big meanie, but if I were in charge of a magazine and one of my writers wrote a story based on a parody tweet without realizing what it was, I would fire them and the editor that allowed it to be printed before the end of the day.
If you will refuse to hold a writer accountable for that big of an error, you really have no editorial standards.
Maybe I am just old school or a big meanie, but if I were in charge of a magazine and one of my writers wrote a story based on a parody tweet without realizing what it was, I would fire them and the editor that allowed it to be printed before the end of the day.
Anyone can make a mistake. A reprimand would probably be sufficient for a first offense. When the same writer publicly called for violence against a conservative speaker that would have a bigger problem to me if I were in charge.
It is so easy to ensure that the tweet is real. Not doing so is just utter negligence.
I DEFINITELY am a gigantic meanie, and if I employed most of the talentless progressive assholes that count themselves as 'journalists at places like CNN and MSNBC, I would not only fire their ass, but also make every effort to destroy any future career in news they could ever have.
I would consider it a public service to do so.
I mean no duh. This had been a known issue since the election, but it doesn't seem to be slowing journalists down any.
It might do the journalusm profession some good to remember that they are, theoretically, professionals and comport themselves as such.
The Alt-Left Alarm clock. It's alarmingly racist!
http://thefederalist.com/2018/.....ed-create/
This guy makes the same point I did yesterday. The media didn't think Trump would win and wanted to help Hillary. So they said outrageous and crazy things figuring they would be forgotten after Hillary was safely elected. The only problem was, Hillary wasn't elected. And now they have a real problem.
The behavior of Anne Applebaum, someone who was once a serious person and should have known better, was particularly egregious. So egregious, I wonder if she wasn't on someone's payroll.
Like I said above, these people are seditious and should have their careers destroyed. They are actively trying to bring down a president by lying under the guise of journalism. It's time to start making an example of them.
America will never be free until progressivism is destroyed.
Soooo, it's Trump's fault.
And he makes the media act stupidly and irresponsibly? Why, it's almost as if they have no....professional ethic!
If the media was so objective, then why bother playing his game? Right, because they choose to be political hacks in an effort to try and take him down. Every time he says something wrong either ignore it (like they did with Obama and his bull shit) or factually report on it free of TDS and move the fuck on to the next topic. Stop patronizing and quit the emotional hysteria.
I also don't like the way 'Trump lies and does terrible things' is framed.. It leaves the impression he doesn't do good things. eg, Tax cuts, cut off arms to rebels in Syria and so on.
Other than that, I want that clock!
In one sense it is Trump's fault. Trump is the first political figure who seems to understand the media and how to manipulate them into doing stupid things and taking crazy positions that make them look horrible and allow him to look good. That I guess is Trump's fault. It is, however, the media's fault that they seem to be slow learners with poor impulse control and allow Trump to pull the same move over and over again without ever learning to not take the bait he offers them.
We all know the shtick. It's amazing they keep falling for it.
Calling them slow learners is putting it mildly. That I think is the real reason they hate Trump so much. It is not that he is that much different or worse than any other politician. They hate him because his very existence reveals what morons they all are. A guy who was a real estate developer and reality TV host not only ran for President and kicked their asses but now is President and whatever you think of him isn't doing any worse of a job than any of the political class has done and you could argue is doing better.
Trump completely demolishes the conceit that the media and political class are in any way worthy of their positions or anything but buffoons. He exposed them for being the shallow inbred morons they are. And for that they will never forgive him.
Trump to the media is like a squirrel to a dog
Still don't think Trump is doing this skillfully or even intentionally. It's just as easily explained by his being a white noise generator and the media being full of hypersensitive leftists.
Some of it is clearly intentional.
"asshole reflux"
perfect
The media got Trump to where he is, and I'm not just talking about politics. It won't be the media that takes him down, but the United States criminal justice and political systems.
He became president. He won. Anyone whining about the media on his behalf is really going all-in on the banana republic thing. I can't imagine how susceptible this country would be to tyranny if the wannabe tyrant were an actually relatively competent human being.
Yeah, it scares the hell out of me when I think of what would have happened if Hillary had not been a complete moron and completely incompetent. You said it, brother.
I was about to post something similar.
Tony walks into it so much that it is almost not fun to screw with him. Almost but still pretty fun.
But it's not clever or relevant or anything but an attempt to normalize Trump.
Hillary is a normal human and a normal politician. You may not like anything she believes, but that is what she is, and that is what Trump is not.
Hillary is a normal human and a normal politician.
*snort*
Hillary is just like your mom, but trying to be president.
Really. I'm serious.
Trump is not a normal politician. Indeed. Is that a bad thing to you? When you hear the word "politician", do you associate it with things like honesty and virtue?
Do you associate those things with Trump? Is he not the walking repudiation of that little theory?
I don't. But that doesn't prove that every non-politician is a slimeball. But they are just as capable.
Trump is now a politician of course. His lack of political experience is not doing him or us any favors.
It was a stupid theory to begin with. Egotistical businessmen thinking they know how to do everything better than everyone.
Egotistical businessmen thinking they know how to do everything better than everyone.
The impudence. Every one knows that filing nuisance lawsuits on behalf of racial grievance mongers before blackmailing your way into Chicago politics is what really qualifies you to run a country.
You left out a couple resume items there.
But it is true that Democrats unlike Republicans are actually required by their base to have some level of skill and intelligence before they're put in high office.
You left out a couple resume items there.
Nope. Not one actually. Those are the only paid positions that Obama has held. Although if you want to pad it out with his guest lectures at the University of Chicago between times by all means do so. His actual career as a paid professional constitutes: attorney for racial activist non-profit groups, then elected official in two unopposed elections both of which involved blackmail of the opponent using confidential information.
Of course that's nothing compared to a woman who fucked the president and was a practicing lawyer for half a dozen years in her 20s during which she was nearly disbarred.
But hey compared to accumulating 5 billion dollars over half a century running a real estate and marketing empire clearly the Democrats have the firm lock on qualified candidates with experience in real leadership.
Hey, don't forget that Obama was also a Senator for a minute during which he consistently voted 'present'.
Everyone knows that only the Political Caste know how to rule. Those people who do things in the private sector? They obviously don't know anything. That's why so many of them meet with the Political Caste behind closed doors, then do so incredibly well compared to a business that never had such a meeting.
/sarc
"Hillary is a normal human and a normal politician."
No dummy, Hillary Clinton is a clinical psychopath, and one of the most corrupt people in American history. This is ok with you because you would slaughter millions, just like your marxist forebears abroad did throughout the 20th century. So a monster like Hillary is 'normal' for a creature like you. Just as Stalin and Mao were 'normal' for their ardent supporters.
Just look at how she's acting in defeat. Could you imagine that with power?
Yeesh.
You shut your mouth when you talk about my queen, Tufus!
Just look at her eight hour long temper tantrum when she found out she lost.
I was watching Bill Hicks' "Relentless" last night. A fair portion of it concerned fake news. That is all.
The only reason we're hearing so much about 'fake news' is because Trump's election was a major failure for them and they're desperate to regain their semblance of being truthful.
The comments on youtube are like 75% "So you're saying Trump's to blame for the media lying because he pisses them off...? Is this like when a woman dresses provocatively and gets blamed for being raped..." etc. I guess they missed how the cycle in the video started with the media.
This video is a delight. Heaton is a delight (or is he...?) Siskind is a delight. I should not read comments.
It is Trump's fault the media are slow learners with poor impulse control. Yeah, that will make the media look better.
You can't expect reporters to take responsibility for their own emotions. Everything is his fault for being a bully.
""Is this like when a woman dresses provocatively and gets blamed for being raped...""
Is this like when someone chums the water with bloody meat and gets blamed for being eaten by a shark?
For several years I used to think that @theRealDonaldTrump was a parody account. Why else use the word "real" in the name unless you were a parody?
He's hardly unique in that as a celebrity.
Trump whines about fake news and deep state.
Provessives whine about fake news and Russian trolls.
At least they agree that 1A sucks.
Is Bob Mueller a whiny progressive?
Uh... yes.
He's a serious Republican actually but nice try. Maybe when it's just you and Trump on an island the rest of us can get some peace.
Progressivism is an ideology, not a political party. There are progressive Republicans and Democrats. Teddy Roosevelt was one of the icons of progressivism. It's hilarious that you're too fucking brain dead to even know whose boots you are licking.
Mueller is a state worshipping piece of shit just like you and has been a worthless sack of shit as an investigator ever since he framed up two innocent men and drove one to suicide during the anthrax investigations 15 years ago. So of course he's the one and only magical serious Republican in your world.
I don't trust any Republicans. But for some reason all special prosecutors have to be Republican, so I don't have a choice.
I don't trust any Republicans.
Yes you've been the picture of reserved skepticism during the year and a half long investigation into Hillary Clinton's fake oppo dossier.
Tony, you think and trust whoever your marxist masters program you to. Just like all the other collectivist trash.
Can he dance on the head of a pin?
Does it matter?
If you cite multiple, reliable, named, sources it is a news article. Otherwise it is editorial commentary.
Note: other 'news outlets' are not sources. Only real people count.
"Official sources" are not sources.
"A senior official" is not a source.
Nobody's twitter account is a source. Including him. The real him.
"An anonymous source" is not a source.
Of course, that makes reporting a real job, and not nearly as much fun as just getting paid for blathering, so just not going to happen.
You just discredited about 90% of 'hard news' published by the NYT and WaPo.
"Well, that's the trick, isn't it?"
News media can't make money via advertising or subscription models at this point, so they have turned to a patronage model. And patronage means propaganda. You think it's a coincidence that the NYT and WaPo were bought up by billionaire leftists who can afford to finance their shortfalls?
Billionaire leftist like Soros and Bezos are part of why we so desperately need new Joe McCarthys to stop them.
Andrew needs a bigger jacket.
The World's Greatest Troll: the Humor of Donald Trump

The real problem is that fake news is based on carefully selected real facts. Interpreted in a one sided many, and fails to considered any other facts that would contravene the arguments. This means that simple fact checking can be nearly worthless.
That is one of those problems with bias that some like to overlook. I'm fully aware that anything from a right wing source will use facts, story selection, and phrasing that supports an ideological narrative. The problem is that mainstream and leftist organizations just as blatantly do the same and yet "liberals" try to claim that they are either unbiased or that their bias is meaningless because they report facts.
Exactly. I don't know anybody who thinks Fox News is unbiased. I would say at least half of my friends think Huffington Post, Vox, and Slate are unbiased bastions of journalistic integrity.
