How Trump Will Reshape Foreign Policy
Cato Institute's Trevor Thrall on the Trump Doctrine
"I think [Trump] kind of has a zero-sum view of the world," says Cato Institute Senior Fellow Trevor Thrall. "'We're going to win, and we're going to beat people up hard to do it.'"
Reason TV's Nick Gillespie sat down with Thrall to discuss the Trump Doctrine, its potential effect on global stability, and America's role as an indispensable nation.

It's depressing how many people call themselves libertarians and actually believe trade and foreign policy are zero sum games, let alone ordinary statists.
This is a vagary in language that libertarians use. Someone DOES lose, but society benefits. You didn't have the scores to go to medical school so you became a Vet/Dentist. Economics only solves for efficiency, not for personal aspirations.
While someone wins and someone loses, doctors AND Vets/Dentists both benefit. This is a hard truth for most to come to terms with. Would you, in a truly free market, honestly keep the status you currently have? Most likely not.
Whatever the faults of a cold, hard free market, it still is the only chance humanity has. When i get caught in this argument I have started quoting a line from a book I read recently: "This ain't no utopia"
That's just your opinion.
You didn't have the scores to go to medical school so you became a Vet/Dentist.
Vet school is tougher than human med school. Just saying.
In vet school you have to be able to deal with a snake, a horse, a fish, a cat, and a rat - sometimes all in the same day.

Cato is totally cucked.

Might have been better to just say, "let's wait longer than a month." "He's a hawk who doesn't care to intervene" might need some refinement.
Sussing out Trump's foreign policy from his campaign speeches is a fool's errand. He is exactly as likely to follow through with them as any other candidate who becomes president.
What do you mean Obama isn't going to close Guantanamo Bay?
What do you mean Obama won't bring the troops out of Iraq in 2009?

I don't have an account for the first four so it doesn't do me any good to click them and the last one doesn't provide full text as one would hope. I guess I'm SOL. Thanks, Trump, you bastard.
so there's already a Trump Doctrine. Damn, the guy really is moving at warp speed. Might I suggest this: he's a business guy, not a cookie-cutter politician; take him seriously, but not literally. I think Trump throws down something as a starting point for negotiation. After years of mealy-mouthed pronouncements of "productive talks" and diplomacy and whatever else, it's a change. Whether the change is good or bad remains to be seen.
"I think Trump throws down something as a starting point for negotiation."
He had an entire ghost-written book about that.

Were any comparisons made to the Garrosh Hellscream Doctrine?
I can't see why Trump would have any more sway over foreign policy or what the military gets up to than Obama did.
This article is proof that the unReason
staff just makes crap up in order to hav some kind of anti-Trump diatribe to publish. In his inauguration speech Trump said this, "We will seek friendship and goodwill with the nations of the world, but we do so with the understanding that it is the right of all nations to put their own interests first."
Does that sound like a zero sum plan to anyone except the brain-dead and deaf staff at unreason and every other lying leftist MSM outlet? And this is not the first time Trump has made similar statements. Negotiation is not a zero sum game. Trump knows that, unReason however prefers to pretend he doesn't know that because they would prefer to pretend Trump doesn't know how to negotiate.
Just more reasons why unReason is a waste of time and a cesspool of intellectual dishonesty.
And I am still not a paying subscriber and never will be as long as the idiots at unReason continue to pursue being willfull dumbasses who ignore the facts so they can publish their fake news lies.
Thank you for the article was very helpful, I liked his discussion and hopefully a lot of other people who may read this article. Gejala Radang Sendi Rahang

RE: How Trump Will Reshape Foreign Policy
Here's an idea for the USA's foreign policy...non-interventionism.
This idea will save billions of dollars and thousands of lives.
Oh wait...this makes sense.
My mistake.
Foreign policy need not be zero sum, provided you conduct it with other nations of good will. 99% of UN members are looking for handouts and hate our guts, and with negotiation partners like that, foreign policy is zero sum or negative sum (meaning, not dealing with them at all may well be best).
??????OWallace: My total earnings for first month was very low... Just little over $250, but it was then when I realized this is the real deal and not yet another scam you see all over the internet! There are no words to describe the feeling you get when your first paycheck arrives and what excitement I felt at that moment realizing that making money from home is in fact very possible. After my first month I dedicated more time and put more effort in working this and my second month was already much more better (2nd paycheck I got was for $990)... Now, 6 months later, I am earning just over $2500 a month . I am a little slow with my work and I am not that good with computers and that's why I think a younger person could be able to earn much much more than this... ....??????? ?????____BIG- EARN .MONEY____???????-
