Pot, Death, and Minimum Wage: 6 Things to Pay Attention to This Election
There's more to this election than Trump and Clinton.
There's more on the ballot in 2016 than the giant trainwreck on national television. Let's stop rubbernecking for a minute and take a look at 6 other important things at stake on November 8th.
Pot is on the ballot in 9 states, which means some form of legalized marijuana could potentially exist in 29 different states. That could be a tipping point for reform, as public approval for marijuana is at an all time high.
Maine is tired of having a governor that more people voted against than for, so they came up with Question 5, which would implement ranked choice voting in the state. It's a system designed to remove the third party spoiler effect, with voters ranking their candidates and dropping last place finishers until someone has a majority.
Minimum wage hikes are on the ballot in four states, but one to watch is South Dakota, which seems to have realized the negative effect a higher minimum wage has on youth employment, and might decrease the minimum wage for workers under the age of 18.
While three states grapple with putting convicted criminals to death, Colorado might legalize killing yourself. Prop 106 would allow assisted suicide for those who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness and have less than six months to live, pushing the government out of end-of-life decisions.
California Prop 61 would prohibit state agencies from paying more for a prescription drug than what the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs pays. No one knows for sure what the outcome of that would be, but it just might be like that time in 1990 when Congress tried to do the exact same thing with Medicaid. Back then, drug companies responded by raising prices on drugs sold to the VA, and soon enough Congress repealed the mandate. But in defiance of history, economics, and opposition campaigns outspending supporters by around 100 Million Dollars, polls indicate that the measure will probably pass.
One big question on election day will be how many votes can Gary Johnson pull in? If he hits the 5% threshold, the Libertarian party would be classified as a "minor party," and be eligible for matching public election funds. Now, will they take Government money with strings attached?

Nice run-down, and also a reminder to the people who say "I refuse to vote" when they're referring to Presidents that there's more at stake on a ballot than which puppet-in-chief we're forced to stomach for four years.
Weed nigga!
I'm making over $17k a month working part time. I kept hearing other people tell me how much money they can make online so I decided to look into it. Well, it was all true and has totally changed my life. More info this web.. http://www.Trends88.com
You're dealing weed?
My last pay check was $9500 working 12 hours a week online. My sisters friend has been averaging 15k for months now and she works about 20 hours a week. I can't believe how easy it was once I tried it out. This is what I do... http://www.Trends88.com
The only reason why I'm even bothering to show up at the polls is to vote against a referendum that will likely pass.
But otherwise, it's a big meh.
Brown eggs are local eggs and local eggs are fresh.
...sorry New England childhood flashback
My best friend's ex-wife makes $95/hr on the laptop. She has been unemployed for 6 months but last month her income with big fat bonus was over $15000 just working on the laptop for a few hours. Read more on this site... http://www.Trends88.com
"The initiative, championed by the Humane Society of the United States and many other animal welfare advocates, would require that egg-laying hens be allowed sufficient *space to extend their wings* and turn around freely, with *similar rules* for pigs and calves." [emphasis added]
So...pigs have wings?
"So...pigs have wings?"
Only the ones that fly.
They prefer helicopters with FLIR and searchlights.
No, but buffalo do.
Not for me.
NO ON EVERYTHING
My ballot didn't have any items that were worded in any tricky ways, but some of them apparently do.
One did leave important details out that figured heavily into my vote on it. I'm glad that I looked into it more deeply.
6 Things to Pay Attention to This Election:
Do I have enough alcohol
Do I have enough weed
Do I have enough coke
Do I have enough lube
Do I have enough ammo
The six bullets in the revolver you have pointed at your television.
And your 6th one, JB?
I have attention deficit disorder obviously
Do i have enough ritalin
Don't we all, brother!
Are you feeling okay, Gillespie? This voice-over has me concerned.
The powers obtained by being The Jacket's vessel do come at a cost.
The Jacket's probably not doing so well after a Halloween attempt to return to its home planet. When E.T. gets sick, so does Elliot.
"Nick-o-las..."
"Who wins" is probably important.
Ranked Choice Voting? Why the complicated method when you could just do a 'top two' system. It guarantees one party rule and achieves the same thing.
If first-past-the-post democracy was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me.
No seriously, there are several jurisdictions that have done a 'top-two' primary system and they've effectively become 'dead-zones' for the minority party.
Ranked choice voting seems just... weird.
It's a system that results in more compromise. It's a good thing, but like many who were caught in a compromising situation, it's weird for both the catchers and catchees.
It has some rare unfortunate outcomes, statistically speaking, but that's far better than the common unfortunate outcomes we have now.
They were dead zones before top 2. Was there any chance a Republican had in Jim McDermott's district?
I was supportive of Top 2 initially and am now ambivalent, but I certainly don't think it's made things worse.
It's tough to say. It's one of those conditions where it was on a downward spiral before the top two, but has continued with haste.
What it has done is made the process more ridiculous. You get dead-serious reports from local media types like, "This is a very nasty campaign, especially considering both candidates agree with each other pretty much on everything".
What it did do was remove any alternative voice. No, no republican has been elected to any city office since 2007-- and that was considered a fluke. What you don't hear is any dissent during a campaign. It's just two assholes pounding the podium, yelling that they stand for everything their opponent stands for, BUT HARDER!
Like California's one party system?
Funny, I just mailed in my California ballot and whataya know. Of all the partisan positions, only one had two Democrats listed. All others had a Democrat and Republican.
So as far as it "guarantees" anything, it's not a very good guarantee.
I'm so poor (so far past ego depletion on attention span for current events, that is) that I can't even pay attention!
Nick, if we're talking about politics, the expression is, "Let's drive off that bridge when we come to it".

I observe that you've partitioned your voodoo doll. Are you poking the pumpkin full of needles too?
I get to vote yes on allowing casinos in 2 other counties besides Atlantic city. That's something I guess.
I see that I have 4 different commie parties to choose from in the national.

No there isn't anything more in this election than Trump or Clinton.
Take your pick.
Fascism or socialist slavery.
You can't go wrong with either choice.

This is the least important election in our lifetime. Talk to David.
I mean I guess we already exempt slightly disabled people, but exempting any group from minimum wage requirements seems like totally admitting defeat (to proponents, that is). Like if it exists to protect the weakest among us, why would you apply it (only) to everyone else?
Because the world is nuanced.
