Reason TV headed down to the White House for the April 2 #RESCHEDULE420 rally, which culminated in mass cannabis consumption by protesters. The event, which included a giant 51-foot inflatable joint, was organized to urge President Obama to remove marijuana as a Schedule 1 drug.

No arrests occurred during the event, but fines of $25 were issued to a few protesters for smoking marijuana.

Rescheduling weed could have a significant impact on my wife's health. She's chronically ill and I her medical care is my full time (paid) job. She sees a pain specialist who can prescribe either opiates for pain or marijuana for nausea, hut not both due to his license being controlled by the DEA and NIDA. Since she is allergic to Zofran (most effective antiemedic on the market) she and the doc need to decide which not to treat- chronic pain or chronic nausea (she vomits a couple dozen times daily on average and requires enteral feeding for nutrition through her surgically implanted j tube.)

I live in Colorado. My wife cannot use marijuana with an opiate prescription and is regularly drug tested by the pain specialist. This is the result of the DEA and NIDA controlling licenses of pain specialists. If she failed a drug test they would cut off her opiates.

Way late to this but....

I just left Colorado. I had a medical marijuana card issued by the state. It was known by my pain management doctor who was prescribing me opiates. I took drug tests every month when I went in to get my opiate prescription. I was never cut off and I guarantee I "failed" every drug test I took.

There are no doctors in Colorado that prescribe marijuana. There are doctors that will examine you and if you have certain conditions (chronic pain being on that list) they will sign off on the form that allows you to enter medical marijuana businesses. This is only necessary if you live in an area that doesn't allow recreational sales. (I lived in Colorado Springs which doesn't allow recreational sales)

I would suggest your wife find another pain management doctor because the one she is seeing is lying to you.

Was good of your doc to look the other way. Several of my wife's docs (she has 7 specialists in addition to her GP) are willing to forgo the rules that impede her treatment. Unfortunately her pain specialist was not one, and since my wife is on Medicaid finding another is like searching for a leprechaun riding atop a unicorn (she's been permanently disabled since she was 15.) Each patient at this practice has to sign a contract which predicates care on not using any recreational drugs other than alcohol- and the regs are getting even worse this year.
