Human Trafficking in America: Myths and Realities
A Reason event on prostitution, sex trafficking, and the law
Are politicians making the same mistakes with sex trafficking as they did with the war on drugs? What effects have stricter laws had on consenting sex workers? Is forced prostitution a growing problem?
On Monday, August 3, Reason Foundation Director of Criminal Justice Reform Lauren Galik moderated a discussion at Reason's Washington D.C. office about the myths and realities of human trafficking in America, the misguided ways government is addressing the issue, and how these laws are undermining recent criminal justice reform progress.
The participants include: Sex Workers Outreach Project board member and Georgetown University researcher Katie Hail-Jares, Families Against Mandatory Minimum Government Affairs Counsel Molly Gill, and Reason Staff Editor Elizabeth Nolan Brown.

Welcome to amerika, the land of stupid.
The federal government crooks in Congress passed a massive new federal law against prostitution this spring and Obama signed it, without even reading it. It mandates a 20 year minimum federal sentence for any adult who solicits sex from anther adult. It also mandates that a defendant forfeit his home and all assets to the feds, and allows for the scum bag prosecutor to seek the death penalty. It also aims to put dating sites like match out of business. This is because Congress feels that such dating sites lead to more sexual activity. Diane Feinstein, Ted Poe, Mitch Mcconel, Harry Reid, Jim Sensenbrennar, John Corynen, and dozens of other house and senate members are responsible for authoring this bull. Ted Poe, put in the mandatory minimum 20 year sentence part of it. That's our government crooks in action for you!
40 minutes? I'll have to schedule this one for later.
Lauren, please work on the uptalk situation.
