About 100 pro-NYPD demonstrators rallied outside New York's City Hall tonight, some wearing shirts reading "I Can Breathe" in response to similar Comic Sans-fonted t-shirts bearing the dying words of Eric Garner, "I Can't Breathe." 

Among their complaints was a lack of appreciation for the dangers of police work, despite recently released FBI statistics showing it has never been safer to be a police officer and crime rates ar historic lows; insufficient respect for police authority, and a perceived lack of support from New York Mayor Bill de Blasio.

The NYPD used barricades to cordon off their supporters from anti-police brutality counterdemonstrators, though some of the latter did enter the space of the former, leading to some fiery exchanges. 

About 3 and a half minutes.

it is atrocious that cops are allowed to get so weak and/or out of shape

FBI LEOJ etc. data has proved that fit cops use

LESS PHYSICAL FORCE
suffer lower injury rates on duty
use less sick leave
incur less civil liability
are less likely to injur suspects
are less likely to injur bystanders
are less likely to be hurt on duty to the extent they must take retirement etc (and I cannot tell you how often cops in my agency get hurt LOD. I've seen times where literally 1/4 of my squad is out on leave due to injury related duties - falls, assaults, breaks, sprains,e tc.)

i don't think the stats capture this data very well from what i have seen. i KNOW we don't report it to the feds, because i've looked into this extensively

we have so many officers who get injured lod and so many who get forced out or quit because of it, it is mind boggling

heck, Im in shape and ive suffered knife wound, concussion (multiple times), assault, sprain, catastrophic tendon tear etc. in my career

officers MUST be required to be fit AND paid to work out

2 NYPD cops just executed while sitting in their cars

I've read 5 articles

No mention of race of involved as per the racist double standard

If cop is victim it's irrelevant

Let's stipulate it's a very safe city. We did some comparative stats and a patrol officer in my dept is about 3 times as likely to get shot as a NYPD officer.

Not surprising

VERY safe city, plus dual car patrol, and a Emergency Response Unit that takes over for patrol with excellent tools etc. on many occasions when patrol would have to handle it in smaller pd's with soft uniforms (no near full body armor, etc.)

NYPD has a service population WAY over 8 million

(manhattan doubles during the day, so their effective service population is probably close to 10 million)

either way...

35000 cops

in a recent year, 30 people out of over 8 MILLION were shot by NYPD

in an ENTIRE year

of all ages, race, etc.

otoh 13 cops were shot (none killed)

note the benefits of vests

30 "civilians" shot and 16 : 14 ratio of dead to wounded

13 cops shot and NONE killed

that aside, out of 8 million people THIRTY were shot by the cops and 60 cops total fired their guns in those incidents

60 out of 35000

and 30 out of 8 million shot

cmon. they aint very hardened

they act with remarkable restraint and skill in a relatively safe city

and only 13 got shot out of 35000, evidencing the relative ssafety of NYPD

When Ofc Brenton was assassinated while sitting in his car, his killer who drove up and capped him, ADMITTEDLY was pissed off at the cops because of alleged brutality in the "stomp the mexican piss out of you" incident (note the victim of that alleged brutality suffered next to no injuries. I know this is an utter waste of time, but I'll give it the old college try. First off I knew my post was far too subtle for you to get so, I'll explain in excruciating detail what I meant and dollars to donuts you still won't get it, so be forewarned this is the only time I will try.
Police union officials have told us that we non-cop law abiding civilians are safe from summary execution providing we obey police commands. However the video evidence shows that Tamir Rice and John Crawford did not have time to comply before they were shot. If commands were even given. Likewise, the two cops were not given any heads up before the gunman executed them. Now for the hard part for you. All three of these instances are similar... the victims were ambushed and had no chance to avert their deaths. Can you not see how the idea of law enforcement behaving identically to sociopathic killers not be a major problem? And if the cops who do this are not at least fired, why reasonable peaceful people assume a horrible double standard was in place.

Both are doomsday cults. Millerism survived its "Great Disappointment" when the predicted second coming of Christ didn't happen and morphed into Seventh Day Adventism. CAGW is the latest of the environmental doomsday cults.

Adventism has a head start, having started in the 19th century. On the other hand, Adventism is smaller, does not receive government grant money that I am aware of, and does not control as many institutions nor as large institutions as CAGW cultists.

CAGW, unlike Adventism, has some high-profile problems. The Climategate e-mails and the recent coverage of retroactive adjustments to weather station date.

I think because Adventism is quietly growing and living under many people's radar, it will last longer.
