"I do think that we do lead fairly repressed, button-down lives," says Fenton Bailey, a producer of the cable hit RuPaul's Drag Race. "And along comes a drag queen and says, 'Fuck all that.'"

Bailey sat down with historian and Reason contributor Thaddeus Russell to discuss RuPaul's Drag Race and pushing the envelope of conventional taste on television and in life. "The whole idea of being gay is that it's a whole rainbow of different people," says Bailey, who pushes back against stereotypes from within the gay community. "If you are gay, then you can't start legislating about what's too gay or not gay enough."
