Campaign for Liberty's Norm Singleton on Obamacare, Auditing the Fed, and the Libertarian Moment
"A lot of politicians will vote libertarian if that is how they think they remain politicians," says Norm Singleton, Vice President for Policy at Campaign for Liberty.
A nonprofit political group founded by former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), Campaign for Liberty's mission is to promote and defend "individual liberty, constitutional government, sound money, free markets, and a non-interventionist foreign policy." On Thursday Campaign for Liberty kicks off their annual Liberty Political Action Conference, featuring Rep. Paul, Sen. Rand Paul, Rep. Justin Amash, Rep. Thomas Massie, and grassroots activists from around the country.
Singleton believes that libertarianism is on the upswing and that if we are not yet living in a libertarian moment, we are on the cusp. "Clearly," he says, "with the collapse of mainstream conservative ideologies support among young people and the continuing disillusionment that he Obama youth of 2008 and even 1012 are having, libertarianism is the only political philosophy that seems to have any type of appeal among young people."
Singleton sat down with Reason's Nick Gillespie to discuss Campaign for Liberty, their push to audit the Federal Reserve, Washington's broken budget process, combatting Obamacare, and why it's important to pressure our representatives.
"I hate to break it to you Nick, but sometimes people in office of both parties just vote because they think that is the popular way to vote."

Still pretending the Fed is not audited, I see.
http://www.federalreserve.gov/.....audits.pdf
Look shreeky found a document...that's a good shreeky.
tard!
Still pretending that audit is anything but a sham, I see.
But it looks all official n shit with its many stamps and signatures......
You mean like when the police or the NSA do an investigation into their own misconduct, that you aren't satisfied with that?
See, this is the problem with you anarchists, don't trust your own betters to monitor themselves.
Move to Somalia!
The bill is a sham. There is nothing about an audit in it.
STILL FEEDING THE TROLL I SEE
It's only Wednesday.
Oh, they will continue to feed it like the good fools they are. They can't help it, and that's what it relies upon.
C'mon I need to get my "two minutes hate" on with anal obstruction. It's the only exercise I'll get before my morning meeting.
Would you deprive me of that? Would you?
Also this:
Myth #6: The Federal Reserve has never been audited.
http://www.publiceye.org/consp.....erty6.html
Basically Fed conspiracy nuts just don't want to accept the banality of what the Fed does. How many of them acknowledge that the Fed rebates something like 90 percent of its profits to the U.S. Treasury, for example?
Fed sent record $88.4 billion profit to Treasury last year

"(Reuters) - The Federal Reserve sent a record $88.4 billion in profits to the Treasury last year, audited results showed on Friday, a big payday for the government thanks to the central bank's massive bond purchases."

Is Deloitte not capable of its annual Fed audit?
Who do you want? Price Waterhouse?
No, it's not capable. Remove the GAO's leash and let it perform a real audit:
Audits of the Reserve Board and Federal Reserve banks may not include:
1. transactions for or with a foreign central bank or government, or nonprivate international financing organization;
2. deliberations, decisions, or actions on monetary policy matters;
3. transactions made under the direction of the Federal Open Market Committee; or
4. a part of a discussion or communication among or between members of the Board of Governors and officers and employees of the Federal Reserve System related to items (1), (2), or (3).
Now Jordan if you start bringing up facts and legitimate points of contention he'll just run away and deprive me of further entertainment.
God damn you people.
So Congress is more suited on FOMC matters?
Louis Gohmert, Michele Bachmann, Sheila Jackson-Lee - those idiots?
That is what this bill is about.
There shouldn't an FOMC. But since there is, it better damn sure be answerable to the people who have to suffer under it.
C'mon, Buttblug. Ideally Congress woudl be competent to actually oversee the FOMC, but the biggest guaranteed benefit of a full audit is transparency. That is, the FOMC, as a quasi-governmental entity, should not be able to operate in secret.
At the risk of being mocked by the rest of the commentariat, I ask: do you seriously disagree that the FOMC should operate in the daylight?
Libertarian moment? I suppose Obamacare will be repealed soon and no new gun control measures will be passed anywhere in the US. Not holding my breath...
Wow, our resident neurotic leftoid is terrified of the prospect of auditing the Fed. Collectivist parasites know where their government bread gets buttered.
But the joke's on him and his ilk. Whether the Fed gets audited or not, the dollar is going down, because the welfare bums and rent seekers and statist/collectivists have abused the hell out of the dollar's reserve status.
