3D Printing and the Future of Shopping: Shapeways CEO Peter Weijmarshausen
"What we want…is not to be about 3D printing, but to be about empowering people to get what they want," said Peter Weijmarshausen, CEO of the New York based 3D printing company Shapeways. "We enable people to be involved in the products, and I think they like that."
Weijmarshausen believes that the growing popularity of 3D printing will revolutionize the ways we shop, giving consumers the choice to customize their products rather than settle for the small number of mass produced goods already on the market.
Reason's Nick Gillespie sat down with Weijmarshausen to discuss 3D printing, the future of customization, and the economics behind the new technology.

What happens when we start 3D printing pseudoephedrine??? All of the recent gains we've made fighting meth addiction will be for naught!
Also, it sounds like Gillespie really needs a new air conditioner.
The Future of Retail
Clerk: Welcome to Dimensions Three, what can I help you with today?
FoE: Let's see... I guess I'd like to get 50 pseudoephidrine tablets, a miniature statue commemorating George Brett's 1980 season, and a... um... throw in an AR-15 receiver, too. Please.
Clerk: All right, sir. That will come to $47.89.

Yippee-ki-yay, Mr. Falcon.
We're civilians, not citizens to them.
Although by then some new word will be coined to show their contempt for us, in the way that villagers became villains.
Civillains?
Collateral? Obstructions? Non-hostiles? Target practice?
Voters?
That's such a gay name for your store.
In the future, you and your partner will be required to be gay as a means to mitigate your Carbon Footprint and reverse 18,000 years of melting of the Western Antarctic Ice Sheet. Straight marriage, while not strictly illegal, will be highly restricted under the Interstate Commerce Clause.
Nah, the real advance will be using methylamine and a P2P process.
"It may be blue but it's the bomb."
You idiot, you should be asking them to print you a 3D printer so you you don't have to pay them to make your shit.
You're one of those dicks whose third wish is for unlimited wishes.
A friend of mine is getting a 3D printer this week. One of the first things they recommend you doing is printing out some spare parts for the parts that wear out/break.
At least they should be printing out a copy of Catch 22 in case they don't heed the first recommendation.
Who the hell waits until their 3rd wish to wish for unlimited wishes? That's #1!
I'll have a Coke!
Because then you get unlimited wishes plus two, dummy.
Sounds like the beginning too a really complex pyramid scheme to me. At the very least there's a paradox in there somewhere.
What happens when we start 3D printing pseudoephedrine???
See: Clipper Chip, Skipjack.
Instead of economy of scale, 3D printing allows economy of plenitude, which is what makes a company like Shapeways possible.
Five more years of developing tech and the fascists and nannies will be running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
What is the holy grail? I would think the holy grail would be when a 3D printer can construct another 3D printer.
We were discussing this here the other day, actually. The interview I heard said a 3D printer can currently reproduce 70% of the components to build another 3D printer. They expect to be able to completely reproduce one in 2-3 years once they get to sub-micron levels of reproduction, which we are rapidly approaching.
Personally, I think the holy grail is when we can also produce fried chicken..
You may want to work on a duck shield
Haha. Very funny.
By the way, that duck dies today and there will be pics posted.
that duck dies today
Nice band name.
Best wishes for the, um, procedure, sloopy.
One of our Cornish Cross chickens got attacked by a duck yesterday morning and when I got home, it was in really bad shape and obviously in pain. I had to put it down with a shovel strategically placed against the neck because other birds were messing with her and I didn't want to go all the way back up to the house to get my cleaver. Man' that one was rough. Took his head clean off in one shovel and that body must have flopped for 5 minutes. Definitely not as clean a kill as wringing their neck. Poor little girl. No, wait. Poor, tasty little girl.
You bruised the meat!!! This is why we used a clothes line to drain them. Head on block, ax, holding tied legs, hang on clothes line. No bruises.
Well, here is my preferred method of dispatch.
Here is my preferred method of dispatching birds.

And for the ducks...
Benelli Super Black Eagle
Jesus, that first gun is pretty.
I still love my Remington 870 and my Winchester 101.
Stock pic.
I got mine at a gun show in Wichita Falls TX a few years back. I needed to modify the stock to get it to fit right, so in the process it was totally refinished. The smith used a light chestnut stain, which I think looks better than the factory finish.
Anyway, shoots like a dream. Did pretty well with it this year.
Don't show guns to sloopy. He's not allowed any, so that's just mean.
Sloopy- watch out for creosote on oiled poles. It is a serious carcinogen and irritant. Not really foodstuff approved.
that duck dies today
Or maybe yesterday, I can't be certain.
By the way, that duck dies today
Not Mr. Rapey!
Re: sloopyinca,
Tasty fried chicken. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.
How does a machine know what chicken tastes like?
When it becomes self aware.
Tea. Earl Grey. Hot.
Share and Enjoy!
The Holy Grail would be constructing Number Six.
Don't be so Capricious.
Number Six is definately first choice. Of course Number Three has those awesome breast and has the advantage of also being Xena the Warrior Princess. I think I'll just print a couple of each plus a couple of Number Eight of course. Yes, I think two of each would be sufficient. Everything in moderation.
You missed my (shitty) joke.
No, I didn't miss it. I just ignored it:) Also, of course I need to print an army of Wartys to terrify the world into not being statist assholes anymore. DO AS YOU PLEASE. NOW!
You can't rape the statism out of people, you dope. An army of Warty's would set mankind back 500 years. Only an army of dunphys would be an unmitigated force for good.
Dude...you're gonna give nightmares.
Without an army of Tulpas we'll be lost inside our own echo chamber.
this is beginning to sound like the battle of five armies.
I don't believe we need an army of Tulpae for that, we've already got enough.
Nothing is as good as the real thing.

What is the holy grail?
Printing the Holy Grail.
Just make sure you get it exactly to specifications, or that first drink could be your last.
"That's the cup of a carpenter."
I haven't paid that much attention to this, but it seems to me most of the things I want would not be suitable for 3D printing, due to strength.
However, using the printed item as a pattern for sand casting has massive potential.
That's exactly right and I think it is now used for that as well.
They started with just plastic 3D printing but they are now also doing metal printing. If they combine things like micro/nano printing with metals, carbon, ceramics, etc then I bet they can create things which are not only as strong as today's best metals but much stronger. They could layer different materials in patterns to create the exact strength, flexibility, heat and cold characteristics needed.
Yeah pretty cool shit.

You can do light metals with a Rapid Prototyping Machine

See my post on down the thread...
OT: Algeria has strict gun control and there are only 7.8 guns per 100 private citizens. Laws prevented people from carrying at the BP gas refinery.
More people died there than at Sandy Hook.
BUT Think how much worse it could have been if they all had gunz!
Yeah then every terrorist could have been killed and more than a couple of people could have survived.*
*Of course that would imply that the people there would have armed themselves. From the makeup of the victims, I'd say most of them would not have opted to keep an icky gun even in a third-world hellhole where the rule of law is a joke.
I was wondering about that show jungle gold where the MMA guy was actually packing. I have to believe it is illegal but in Ghana who gives a shit, however being on TV I would have figured the Ghana government would have made a stink. And if you havent seen the shit those guys get into you are missing some massively crazy tv.
More people died there than at Sandy Hook.
Were any of them precious little American babies?
Huh? WERE THEY?
I bet most of them even spoke French.
Going to their website it seems everything there is fairly small. Wonder how large you can go with something like this? I'm thinking like custom cabinents and furniture. Strength and cost may be factors as well.
Re: AlmightyJB,
Lrrr: As large as your puny mind can imagine, you disgustingly feeble little human!
Feeling good about ourselves today are we OM?
Oh, your're quoting a cartoon charactor. I did not know what Lrrr represented. My bad.
Here is a pretty good description of the varying techniques in layman's terms for anyone else that's having trouble getting their heads around how this works.
3D Printing
It seems to me that in order to make multi-material objects you'd need to create single material components and then assemble them. At least in the near-term.
Multi-Material Printing.
http://objet.com/3d-printers/c.....260-connex
Have several cartridges like an inkjet printer, where you have different materials instead of different colors.
I think the processes are different for different materials. EMB for metal, MJM for resins... ??
Cory Doctorow has some interesting speculations about 3D printing in Makers. Too bad his ham-handed politics are basically right out of the OWS playbook, ie what's holding the world back from utopia is evul mega corporashuns, which are what's also making people fat, nary a word about government in all of this, which is why I won't be trying to read another one of his books.
nary a word about government in all of this, which is why I won't be trying to read another one of his books.
Yeah, it's funny how it's totally lost to them how mega-corps are made possible a lot of the time, by cronyism and lobbyist writing regulations that put competition out of business. Not to mention corporate welfare, and too big too fail bullshit.
Liberals are stoopid, it's the only possible explanation for such cluelessness.
It's too bad because the guy had some interesting ideas about 3D printers and a post-scarcity culture based on creativity.
Stupidity is too facile an explanation, they live in an echo chamber where no critical thinking about government takes place. Problems with the government exist, of course, but they are all cause by the manipulations of evul corporashuns. That this manipulation could be a two-way street, well, that's a bridge too far.
post-scarcity culture
This is what the statists in our government, and for that matter, statists everywhere, fear the most. Without scarcity, they lose power and control.
Scarcity and scare-mongering are their 2 favorite tools.
Without scarcity, they are really going to have to step up their effort in boogeyman creation.
Maybe they can print some new boogeymen?
Nice one.
I'm pretty sceptical of post-scarcity even if I use the word. I can see things like 3D printers shifting scarcity by an order of magnitude. At least not until things like nano-assemblers and cheap energy like fusion come along. It would certainly have interesting and profound effects on manufacturing and place like China, but things like land and social status aren't going to change much. So it might end up being taken for granted as having access to almost limitless music and video does today without affecting overall societal structure profoundly.
Nano assemblers are coming. I think that is closer than fusion. See my link to the article below if you haven't read it.
But then again, according to Kurzweil, the singularity is near! 2040?
"Maybe they can print some new boogeymen?"
You missed it they already have the boogeyman ready to go. Environmentalism. I can see the articles now, We can't let the average person have this technology! They'll create all kinds of consumer goods without any regard for the destruction of the Environment!
No, it's absolutely essential that only Licensed and Authorized Operators be allowed to use such dangerous artifacts.
Can you imagine if Aaron Swartz had been bitten by the entrepreneur bug rather than Cory's Tragic Kingdom bug? Great things.
Speaking of pulling things out of thin air...
There are few better ways of grasping how far the Republicans have abandoned the middle ground, where they used to win elections, than the way their leaders have become agents of the gun industry. Conservatives used to consider themselves law-abiding citizens who put great store by the permanence of institutions, by the rule of law, and by the traditional caution and common sense of the sensible majority.
--------
In the mid-Seventies, the NRA switched from being a moderate organization backing moderate gun controls into a radical body that promulgated an absolutist interpretation of the Second Amendment with a new motto: "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." It was this originalist interpretation of the Second Amendment that led Warren Burger, the conservative, constructionist chief justice appointed by Richard Nixon to declare on PBS in 1991 that the NRA had perpetrated "one of the greatest pieces of fraud ? I repeat the word fraud ? on the American public by special interest groups that I have ever seen in my lifetime. ? [the NRA has] misled the American people and they, I regret to say, they have had far too much influence on the Congress of the United States than as a citizen I would like to see. And I am a gun man."
Quoting the constitution verbatim is clearly fraudulent behavior.
It's funny when they say that a majority of NRA members don't agree with their 'extremist' stance.
Then why are they members, and why don't they start a splinter group?
Well, there have been some splinter groups formed (GOA), but they are even more 'extreme'.
Eat it, you gun-grabbing dickbags.
More:
Around the same time, economic notions that had ensured unprecedented prosperity under Eisenhower and Nixon gave way in the GOP to fiscal conservatism ? absolutist ideas about the money supply and reducing public spending that George H. W. Bush derided as "voodoo economics." Since 2009, libertarian insurgents that in the GOP primaries last year accounted for about 10 per cent of party activists have extrapolated careful budgeting into demands for minimal government. Since Tea Party protestors entered the GOP in numbers in 2009, they have instituted further restrictive demands upon Republican candidates, diminishing the discretion of elected officials by directing them to obey pledges not to raise taxes.
Once a moderate party protecting old fashioned values, since the mid-Seventies the Republicans have adopted extreme positions that are alien to the party of Lincoln, Eisenhower, Nixon and Bush Sr. A party proud of its pragmatism is being driven by dogmatic theories imported by unbending ideologues such as Ayn Rand, Ludwig von Mises, and Friedrich Hayek. On guns, abortion, immigration, women's health, homosexual rights, home schooling, and a host of other issues, the once inclusive Republican Party has lost its one-nation tradition and supplanted it with a hotchpotch of sectarian interests policed by a coalition of narrow, theory-driven mavericks, curmudgeons, libertarians, radicals, and eccentrics.
If only modern Republicans were more like NIXON!
Those EPAs aren't going to create themselves, you know.
Once a moderate party protecting old fashioned values,
Are proglodytes starting to realize that theirs is a reactionary movement.
"libertarian insurgents".
i'm surprised they didn't come right out and call us terrorists.
I was born to insurge.
When George W. Bush took over, federal spending was 1.77 trillion dollars. It is now 3.8 trillion dollars. His last year we had a 600 billion dollar deficit.
I don't think George Bush's problem was his libertarian ideals of a balanced budget.
Oh, also, I like their apparent argument that being in favor of trillion dollar deficits is 'pragmatic' and being against trillion dollar deficits is a 'fringe ideology.'
By that definition, every country in the history of mankind has been run by fringe lunatics since we're the first to willingly run up trillion dollar yearly deficits.
war-mongering anarchists?
mavericks, curmudgeons, libertarians, radicals, and eccentrics?
Hard to take anyone seriously who obviously doesn't even know the meanings of the words he uses. Unfortunately, he'll help form the opinions of others equally as ignorant.
We really need to find a way to convey our actual positions to the uninformed masses.
usually, that's a function of a political party. the Libertarian party has not done a great job at this, to put it mildly. People will cry that those in power- the two major parties - prevent them from doing so, but that's defeatist and inaccurate imo. we could do better at marketing ourselves.
Just wear a Ron Paul shirt while you are not aiding the DEA to hassle legal growers and vendors of MJ in your state.
we have these pesky things called uniforms, designed among other things, so as not to show political favoritism by the wearer. otoh, there is case law supporting the right, IF a dept. allows message shirts at all (like during training), not to censor based on the message.
a cop wore a pro-death penalty shirt depicting a hanging to a training class and was ordered not to wear it and disciplined because it was perceived as racially insensitive - hanging = racebased lynching always according to some people
the cop won, on free speech grounds.
So, you can't wear what you want off duty?
I was speaking of advertising. IOW, if folks in your community know your position on the drug war and also that you're a cop, I consider that good publicity for LP.
it was perceived as racially insensitive
Looks to me like police forces around the country should be more concerned about the outbreak of senseless shooting of family pets, more than what shirt someone wears.
on duty, not off duty. it was at a training class, as mentioned.
Yeah, it was the libertarians that made the modern Republican party. /sarc
In no way was it the neo-cons (former liberals), or the SoCon nuts (former democrats)that shaped them. Us 2%ers have a lot of influence for being politically outcast, mom's basement dwelling, pathologically masturbating, pothead, gun freaks that everyone ignores.
I wish the GOP were being driven by the theories of Rand, von Mises, and Hayek.
Here is an interesting read, as far as new materials are concerned:
Nano Replicators
All government spending is investment! By definition, apparently.
Most important, this credit-card metaphor is a totally false analogy because, unlike a consumer on a spending spree who later has to pay the piper, government's borrowing strategy directly affects economic growth. When deficit spending helps increase growth, that, in turn, makes the debt less burdensome. The Federal Reserve also has the power to buy public debt ? a prerogative not available to consumers.
--------
When government borrows, it invests in projects that cycle right back into the private economy. These are usually things the economy needs, anyway, that make it more productive or are necessary services curtailed by the recession, like schools and road repair.
The more you know...
In other words, we have an entire class of worthless parasites now, who need to validate their existence through logic so twisted that only they themselves are able to do the mental contortions necessary to believe a word of it.
This^
Without an army of Tulpas we'll be lost inside our own echo chamber.
Tulpa is like a one man plague of frogs. That's sufficient.
I normally don't like hoppy shit, and Hopslam is awesome. Can I 3D print it so I don't have to pay eighteen dollars for a six?
Maybe you can print the equipment to brew it at home.
I have this feeling that beer is one of those things we won't be printing for a while. Maybe you can print the equipment for home brewing.
But if I can print some ephedrine tabs to go with a good all day beer drinking binge, instead of having to look at some ugly pug faced biiatch at Walmart and show my driving license, that is lots of gained happiness right there.
I have so many preoccupations that I do not desire to go down the homebrewing path. Besides, I would probably fuck it up and I don't want to wait that long. I might be willing to cosign the paperwork for a microbrewery and do the silent partner thing, though.
That's what has stopped me from doing it so far. Between job, wife, gaming, travel, and a few other minor hobbies... posting on H&R, it's just too easy to drive to a liquor store and choose from a plethora of quality brews, already cold and ready to drink.
Homebrewing is actually one of those hobbies that the more you ignore it, the better it tends to be.I've known a goodly number of homebrewers who fuck it up by continuously checking and fiddling and end up contaminating the brew.
To get a brew started takes as much time and effort as cooking dinner. Then you stick it in a corner and ignore it for a while. Wine you can ignore for months. Bottling can be done in a couple hours. Lather rinse repeat.
To get a brew started takes as much time and effort as cooking dinner.
If it takes you 4-5 hours to cook dinner, you are doing something wrong.
If it takes you 4-5 hours to get a brew started YOU'RE doing something wrong. 🙂
For example mead: 5 gallons water, 5 lbs honey, handful of raisins, 1 lemon peel. Boil ingredients, let cool, add 1 packet wine yeast. Put the lid on the pot, put the pot in a corner, completely ignore for 6 months. Bottle.
For ultimate lulz, I think I'm going to start the spring brewing season by making a double-hopped west coast pale ale and call it "Hopsalaam Alaikum" and put a picture of Muhammad with two bees steins extended on the label.
Would any of you care for a six-pack if I do so?
You insult prophet!, you bad man! Now is jihad!
But... send all beer to me, and I will spare you, infidel!
You can just print up the 18 dollars, you'll be drinking some nice beer and stimulating the economy at the same time.
Win-win!
Bernanke does it, why not everyone. Cut out the middleman.
We are all helicopters now!
Good point. I used to print fake fives on cotton resume paper to use at house parties, back in my shit beer drinking days. I'm not even a cheap bastard, I just did it for fun. But liquor stores are truly doing God's work in some of the toughest communities in America, so I don't have the heart to rip them off.
Ummm, drink Old Milwaukee and get your hand out of Big-Microbrew's pocket.
Big-Microbrew
Awesome!
Would you say that my juxtaposition was "well crafted" or even, dare I say, "artisanal*"?
*am I spelling this wrong, the check don't like it none?
**claps wildly**
Do another one! Do another one!
Hockey is on, and I've had a couple non-ironic PBRs, so I am unable to pun up to my normal standards.
I love it when the philly phucks chant "crosby sux!' cause we always score...
A lot of artisans certainly are anal.
I've been drinking strictly craft beers for a significant period that the last Peeber I drank tasted shitty. Of course I drank it in between drinking craft beers and fine liquors.

call us terrorists.
It's so cute when you do that.
it's cute when a tiny deranged fringe seeks to oust people from a movement because they don't fit their narrow purity based definition. if you applied the same rigor to dr. paul, he would fail as well
reminds me of the "feminists" who oust any person who does not support on demand abortion through the third trimester
fringe and inconsequential persons
Calling one's self a libertarian and being a libertarian are two different things. You could tell us you're the Pope, but that don't make it fucking so.
Would a libertarian deny a person the right to answer their door armed to a person not announcing that they are a cop or are armed, especially in the middle of the night? Sorry, but I have a hard time jibing libertarianism with this:
moron dies of gunfire.
and
fuck him
and
this guy was a fucking moron begging to get shot
and, lastly
and he has nobody to blame but his stupid ass-dead self
Do you willingly enforce laws that you know (as a libertarian) to be immoral/unconstitutional?
Have you ever said "Those cops fucked up." on any of the numerous cop threads?
If the answer to 1 is yes and the answer to 2 is no, then SDASTFU.

Ok, LIMITED I'll grant. But SMALL?
Yakima - a marijuna grower's haven?
http://www.komonews.com/news/l.....82661.html
Irrigation canals line Washington's Yakima Valley east of the Cascade Range, transforming a desert landscape into one of the most productive agricultural regions in the world - including crops for some of America's biggest vices.
Thousands of acres of wine grapes dot the landscape, contributing to Washington's No. 2 rank for premium wine production behind California. Farmers grow more than two-thirds of U.S. hops for big beer companies and craft brewers alike, and a large tobacco field is flourishing on a valley Indian reservation.
Now that Washington voters have legalized marijuana, will a region long recognized as one of the country's leading fruit bowls, best celebrated for Washington apples, become known as the vice belt? Not necessarily.
Too many unanswered questions remain about the new law, from how the state will regulate it to whether entrepreneurs or large corporations should lead the way. And the biggest question: the federal government's role going forward.
Is Yakima near Edmonds?* I only ask because if so, pot growers may want to beware, lest they get raped by an on-duty cop.
their narrow purity based definition.

fwiw, this is why i don't respond toa certain troll. constant lack of intellectual integrity
"Would a libertarian deny a person the right to answer their door armed "
because that wasn't the issue. the issue was him answering the door with the gun held in his hand. i deal with people armed, to include answering the door armed frequently. no big deal. same goes for cops across the nation. look at shooting stats to confirm. if we shot everybody who answered the door armed, the stats would reflect it.
they don't
i made it crystal clear over and over the issue was answering the door with the gun held IN HIS HAND, which is colossally stupid and an instant escalator
and yet the troll can't even get the BASIC facts right.
which is why i have made it a (general - sometimes violated) policy not to respond to him.
many others who disagree with me here, have the courtesy of intellectual honesty. this one does not.
After midnight.
Cops did not identify themselves.
No peephole.
Cop hid out of sight of the window.
Angle of entry makes cop's story nearly impossible.
Witness testimony contradicts cop's story.
and yet the troll can't even get the BASIC facts right.
Basic facts, like the angle of entry for the bullets contradicting the story the cops told?
When are you gonna get it through your head that you're the fucking troll, shithead? That story is a picture-perfect example of cops being above the law yet you see it as a good shoot where "the idiot got what he deserved."
Go fuck yourself.
many others who disagree with me here, have the courtesy of intellectual honesty. this one does not.
What's intellectually dishonest about pointing out the facts of a case that don't conveniently jibe with the story the cop told?
Explain the angle of entry for the shots compared to the story the cops told of him "swinging the door open and drawing a gun. Unless he was the skinniest man ever born, he couldn't have fit between the door's swing radius and the side wall inside the house. And even if he could, how could he have gotten the gun drawn?
The cops lied. You support them. Therefore you support killers of innocent people who lie about what happened and walk because their coworkers are charged with investigating their criminal behavior.
And by the way, I'll be happy to put my reputation on here up against yours any day of the week.
By definition, sloopy, disagreeing with a cop is intellectually dishonest.
answering the door with the gun held IN HIS HAND
Dunphy, not trying to get in on any pizzin contest. But answer me this, if you will.
I have had knocks on my door late at night, and went to the door, with the gun in my hand. So, if I go to the door, not knowing who is there, at some odd hour when no one would normally be at my door, you just shoot me? I have to tell you, that is unacceptable.
Exactly. My neighborhood ain't the best. and if someone comes knocking after dark, I have a 12 gauge with 6 in the tube and 6 on the side...all 00 buckshot by my side.
Since the cops were in plain clothes, didn't identify themselves and had their guns drawn (according to the cops themselves) for you have intellectual integrity, your position is that if the homeowner, upon opening his door and seeing guns drawn, had opened fire first and killed the cops, they would have been "morons begging to get shot" with "nobody to blame but their stupid ass selves," right?
Hey, he blamed an innocent guy the other day for running from near a crime scene when two cops out of uniform (dressed in black) that didn't identify themselves started chasing him. The guy stopped and started turning with his hands in the air when he realized they were cops, but one of the boys in blue still tackled him and drove his head into the base of a wall, causing paralysis and permanent brain injury. He even went so far as to say the $10M settlement was out of pity and the officer was in the right.
I remember because I posted the story where the same officer caused the city to pay another settlement a little over a year later for tackling a "civilian" for filming him and broke his nose and a few other bones.
IOW, he views police as above the rest of us and not subject to the same laws. He's a piece of shit.
That's a good point. They can kick in the door and come piling through unannounced and if you open fire on them (and live), you go down for murder.
What, he should have it holstered so as to make it effectively useless should somebody of nefarious intent be outside the door ready to kick it in as soon as the bolt it turned?
You really are a vile piece of shit Dunphy.
He made it clear in the original thread that the onus is not on police to identify themselves but rather on the homeowner/resident at 1:30 am to identify who is at their door before opening it.
If cops were required to identify themselves when knocking, it's unlikely this situation would have ended in the death of another innocent person at the hands of cops who were not held accountable.
For me, though, the biggest issue is that the physical evidence completely contradicts the police narrative. No way in hell could he have swung the door open and pointed a gun at cops and still be shot with the entry angle of those bullets. It's a physical impossibility and if this went to a Grand Jury, these guys would be on trial for voluntary manslaughter, and would probably be seeking a plea deal to reduce their sentence.
the issue was answering the door with the gun held IN HIS HAND, which is colossally stupid and an instant escalator
Yes or no, you jackbooted thug; DID THE POLICE IDENTIFY THEMSELVES WHEN THEY BEAT ON HIS DOOR?
Another Oregon sheriff mailed off a letter, bringing the total to eight.
Six others say they agree and support the 2nd Amendment but won't mail a letter or think it's premature.
One weaseled and says he'll follow his oath to the constitution.
Two say they'll leave it up to the courts (and do whatever the courts and the law say to do).
if I go to the door, not knowing who is there, at some odd hour when no one would normally be at my door, you just shoot me?
OFFICER SAFETY, dude.
You're a small price to pay to ensure those brave men go home safely to their families.
^^This^^ could have come straight off PoliceOne, except they would have thrown the word "scumbag" in there somewhere.
BTW, I wonder where dunphy went? I guess he didn't like it when I posted the physical evidence that contradicted the police claims. It's OK though, because the internal investigation still cleared them of wrongdoing even though they never would have made it through a grand jury.

my buddy's step-mother makes $85 an hour on the laptop. She has been unemployed for eight months but last month her paycheck was $19386 just working on the laptop for a few hours. Here's the site to read more... http://www.snag4.com
Your buddy's stepmom might make $85 an hour on the computer, but that's nothing compared to what your mom makes on her back.
Yorge's/Horhay's buddy's step mother is a crack whore who does video chats. This sort of offer does not apply to decent people.
