Brickbat: Can She Say That?

Gagged womanDarkbird77 / Dreamstime.comThe Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the student government at Emporia State University in Kansas called for impeaching Michaela Todd, the student government's vice president, for language she used endorsing Republican Kris Kobach for governor. Todd wrote on her Facebook page that Kobach would "put Kansans first, not illegal aliens." Some students said the term "illegal aliens" is offensive. The Diversity and Inclusion Committee dropped its plans to impeach Todd after members of the student government met with an attorney. But the school's student newspaper reports that meeting was not announced in advance, a violation of the state's open meetings law.

    There's no such thing as an illegal person, you bigots! Nevermind that "illegal alien" is a term in common use to describe a person who enters a country in contravention of immigration law. No, we need to get woke. We need to willfully misunderstand everything anyone says, and stretch it into its most awful possible interpretation. Because that's how they really meant it!

  • JesseAz||

    Proper classical language will not be tolerated. Please report to the academy of woke to receive your new dictionary.

  • Conchfritters||

    In the slaughter house we don't say "illegal aliens", instead we use the terms knockers, stickers, bleeders, tail rippers, flankers, gutters, sawers, and plate boners.

  • Fist of Etiquette||

    We can be expected to be only so diverse and inclusive.

  • Rat on a train||

    The big tent is full.

  • Eddy||

    Ze Diversity and Inclusion Committee has vays of makink you more tolerant, ja?

  • AlmightyJB||

    I wonder if their committee includes an equal representation of libertarians and conservatives? If not, shouldn't the campus shut them down for their hateful bigotry?

  • Rev. Arthur L. Kirkland||

    You figure this fledgling Republican yahoo is a member of Libertarians For Bigoted, Cruel, Authoritarian Immigration Policies?

  • JWatts||

    Reverand, I support your First Amendment right to be a bigot!

  • MotörSteve||

    And look! The Rev learned a new word on his See & Say: "fledgling".

  • JesseAz||

    His AI programming is up to a 7 year old's intelligence. SO it's improving.

  • Rev. Arthur L. Kirkland||

    Watching ostensible libertarians flock to the defense of a bigoted authoritarian is illuminating.

    Carry on, clingers. So long as your betters permit, anyway.

  • FreeRadical||

    Rev., as usual, you miss the point. It isn't about defending her views or not. It's about the outrage factory spinning up to silence and remove someone over what they say.

    Why do you immediately change the subject? This is almost always what progressives do. They're unable to see the principle at hand.

  • Unicorn Abattoir||

    Carry on, clingers.

    So sayeth the Reason Gecko.

  • Sevo||

    "You figure this fledgling Republican yahoo is a member of Libertarians For Bigoted, Cruel, Authoritarian Immigration Policies?"

    Dunno, but you are certainly a member of Tiresome Assholes. In fact, there's a good chance you are the Supreme Tiresome Asshole.

  • Rev. Arthur L. Kirkland||

    Tiresome is listening to ostensible libertarians whine about libertarian immigration policies because they are bigots as well as right-wing losers.

  • AlmightyJB||

    Anything worth saying is worth saying 4 times. / squirrels.

  • Rev. Arthur L. Kirkland||

    She should not be impeached. Stale-thinking, fledgling bigots have rights, too.

  • Sevo||

    "Stale-thinking, fledgling bigots have rights, too."

    That's the reason your still here, stale-thinking asshole.

  • Rev. Arthur L. Kirkland||

    I am here because I wish to be, wingnut. In my current neighborhood, I don't get to hear much from the bigoted, disaffected yahoos I remember from my hometown. This site's comments show me how the lesser third lives and thinks.

  • Jerryskids||

    So the Diversity and Inclusion Committee is there to make sure there's no diversity in opinion and to exclude anybody who doesn't agree with their opinion. Isn't there a term for when words mean the exact opposite of what you'd think they mean, especially when benign words disguise malevolent intent?

  • AlmightyJB||

    Propaganda?

  • This Machine Chips Fascists||

    This sounds like a terrible boring after school special. The best outcome here is everyone involved has to lawyer up and defend themselves against stacked charges from a zealous prosecutor.

  • Quo Usque Tandem||

    I do wonder, especially when reading out places like Great Britain posted this morning, just how much of this is going to make it's way into larger society and eventually and inevitably into legislation?

    Hate speech on the basis of serving the common good and ensuring that we live in a safe and civil society. Of course the imbeciles promoting this sort of thing would never consider that it will bite them on the ass.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    I am offended by the term "Democrat".

    Impeach anyone using that term.

  • FreeRadical||

    The Rev., above, completely missed the point of what all of this is about. Principals, not principles. It's a limitation of the progressive mind.
