Brickbat: Sing a Sad Song

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor DreamcoatReeves, Terri Bryce/ZUMA Press/NewscomCity officials in Wellington, New Zealand, have apologized after producers of a city-funded arts festival changed lyrics to a song from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to remove a reference to Israel. After lyricist Tim Rice found out about the change, he blasted the decision, prompting the festival to drop all songs from the musical. But that decision caused yet another backlash, and organizers agreed to keep the songs and their original lyrics.

    Totally ignorant of history. Don't they know Hitler tried to remove Israel, too?

  • Princess Trigger||

    I prefer my musicals without songs. It's so unrealistic to have people randomly break out singing.

    OOOOk-lahoma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain!

    Shut your fucking face, Uncle Fucka!

    Gee, Officer Krupke, we're very upset;
    We never had the love that every
    Child oughta get.
    We ain't no delinquents,
    We're misunderstood.
    Deep down inside us there is good!

    You mean (Don Meinshausen version post-Murrah):

    Oooooklahoma, where the sound blast comes sweeping down the plain,
    And the broken glass is up to my ass
    And the rubble keeps slowing down my crane.

    Oooooklahoma, where each night my honey lamb and I
    Sit alone and talk, and watch like a hawk
    For the Ryder trucks coming by.

    Now we don't want your guns to be banned, but in case you've got something else planned,
    That's why we saaay, "I wish you'd go awaaaay."
    We're saying, "Please stop bombing Oklahoma; Oklahoma KOed."

    No, I meant the happy and gay one.

    "This was an unintentional and innocent error on the part of one of my team, and I apologize for it," Mary Prichard, the coordinator of Artsplash, told The Jerusalem Post. "The person concerned, and myself for that matter, are religious people and would never consider intentionally doing anything racist or anti any religion."
    I call PC bullshit.

    And, oh by the way, changing the words/lyrics in a comercially sold play script is a violation of copyright in the US, and I would suspect elsewhere.

    This was an unintentional and innocent error on the part of one of my team...BULLSHIT, DOUBLE BULLSHIT and CAMELCRAP!

    It's like they get egg on their face, and then happily lick it off like it was supposed to be there all along.

    QUT-
    More like they slam on another egg or two for good measure.
