    It also calls for the City Council to pass legislation requiring medium and large buildings in the targeted areas to put out their trash for pickup early in the morning, ridding sidewalks of the overnight trash mounds that attract vermin.

    Maybe, just maybe, it's because Israel is the only Western-style democracy in the Middle East? Shared values and all that.

  • Chipper Morning, Now #1||

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    And Turkey.

    If conservatives were really in love with Western style democracies they wouldn't be pissing all over Europe's legit ones.

  • RT||

    Well, you have me with Lebanon, I suppose, although I'm not sure Tunisia and Turkey are considered Middle East (and Turkey seems to be sliding backwards of late). My point still stands regarding being pro-Israel without being a "bible thumper" or whatever phrase is in vogue now.

    As far as conservatives "pissing all over" Europe's democracies, I'm not sure where that comes from. Is it Trump's supposed skepticism of NATO? Although I'm not a fan of the president, he's right to hold their feet to the fire on defense spending. Is it because conservatives are not crazy about transplanting European-style policies over here? Not sure how that's a slam on those countries. If they don't want our policies over there, would that mean that they are "pissing all over" us?

  • Juice||

    Is Tunisia in the Middle East?

    I guess the plan is give the Muslims Jerusalem and maybe they'll stop bombing us, or something like that? Yeah, sure. That sounds like it will work about as well as the last time it was tried.

    Trump is killing the Republican Party - By Joe Scarborough

    As the new century began, Republicans gained control of the federal government. George W. Bush and the GOP Congress responded by turning a $155 billion surplus into a $1 trillion deficit and doubling the national debt, passing a $7 trillion unfunded entitlement program and promoting a foreign policy so utopian it would have made Woodrow Wilson blush. Voters made Nancy Pelosi speaker of the House in 2006 and Barack Obama president in 2008.

  • TrickyVic (old school)||

    ""Congress responded by turning a $155 billion surplus into a $1 trillion deficit ""

    There was no Trillion dollar deficit under Bush. The only time we had a Trillion dollar deficit was in 2009 when the unfunded Trillion dollar ARRA was passed by dems holding both houses of congress, and the presidency.

  • damikesc||

    Nor was there ever a legitimate surplus. The National Debt increased every year under Clinton. If we had a surplus, that wouldn't have been the case.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    So where are you hiding the lie, you slimy piece of shit?
    BTW, you LOST, loser.
    Hahahahahahahah....

  • TrickyVic (old school)||

    From the Article,

    'Whatever package lawmakers pass will add significantly to the deficit. On Tuesday, Obama suggested the country could see trillion-dollar deficits potentially for years.

    Obama's economic advisers have said they are working on a stimulus proposal that could cost up to $775 billion. But several noted economists have recommended lawmakers pass a stimulus package worth between $800 billion and $1.3 trillion."

    The article was written the month Bush left office, and it is referring to what was to come under the Obama admin and a dem congress. The stimulus mentioned became the ARRA and ended up a little more than $775. That, on top of the what was then normal 500B(ish) deficit ran the deficit to over a Trillion.

  • TrickyVic (old school)||

    Think of it this way too. Adding a single 1T piece of legislation would add a significant bump to the deficit. The republicans and Bush did not pass the ARRA. There is no other large outlying bump in the list of deficits.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    The ($1.2 trillion) estimate does not account for the massive spending and tax cuts proposed in President-elect Barack Obama's economic rescue plan.

  • TrickyVic (old school)||

    The estimate may not have, but the actual would have.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    The 2008-09 deficit was $1.2 trillion BEFORE any Obama program was added in.

    So your statement:

    There was no Trillion dollar deficit under Bush

    is WRONG. Incorrect. (unless you meant to say it was higher)

    This is not a partisan GOP site, by the way.

  • TrickyVic (old school)||

    So how much more did it go up when Obama's spending and tax cuts were applied?

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    The CBO estimated that enacting the bill would increase federal budget deficits by $185 billion over the remaining months of fiscal year 2009, by $399 billion in 2010, and by $134 billion in 2011, or $787 billion over the 2009–2019 period.

  • Juice||

    Obama suggested the country could see trillion-dollar deficits potentially for years

    If anyone knows about that sort of thing, it's Obama.

  • chemjeff||

    No, Trump isn't killing the Republican Party. Trump is revealing who the "REAL" Republicans are. It turns out, during all those years of Tea Party protests, when they went to town hall meetings and the like and said "cut spending", what they really meant was, "cut spending for THEM and keep spending for US".

    Republicans don't believe in fiscal conservatism, they believe in fiscal moralism. That the government should spend money on those deemed morally "worthy" and not spend money on those who are not. Trump revealed that in dramatic fashion. Spending money on the military or the wall or on Medicare for deserving older people = good. Spending money on brown people and liberals = bad. Evidently the worst thing about ObamaCare, from their point of view, wasn't that it represented a "government takeover of health care" or a "slippery slope to single-payer", but that it spent money on undeserving poor people to get health insurance.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    Trump is revealing who the "REAL" Republicans are.

    Exactly. I recall the Tea Party signs that read KEEP YER FILTHY GOVERNMENT HANDS OFF MY MEDICARE!

  • chemjeff||

    And, as it turns out, those signs weren't just the work of isolated loopy individuals.

  • chemjeff||

    Republicans don't believe in fiscal conservatism, they believe in fiscal moralism.

    Which is another reason why libertarians shouldn't adopt the phrase "fiscal conservatism", because as long as Republicans tout fiscal moralism but label it as "fiscal conservatism", our identity will be damaged by such misidentification as well.

  • Rhywun||

    Spending money to keep poor people poor is bad, yes.

  • Red Rocks Baiting n Inciting||

    Hey shriek, you left out the aftermath from 2008, when the Dems lost over 1,000 elected seats at the federal and state level.

    The Dems took the wrong message from Obama's victory that full identity politics was the Wave of the Future, and have been getting their asses handed to them ever since. Hillary running up the score in hyper-blue urban ant hives doesn't change that fact.

    What's particularly precious about your little pull-quote is it doesn't mention the Obama administration's equally utopian foreign policy that took a bad situation in the Middle East and made it worse. At least when Bush was in charge, minority sects that had been in Iraq for millennia weren't being liquidated by Mesopotamian and European jihadis, and the region's most precious cultural and historical sites weren't being blown to smithereens.

  • Sevo||

    Uh, that's MAJOR bullshit. First off, there was basically civil war in Iraq from about 2005 onward, so all sort of people were being liquidated. The Iraq War itself took care of some historical sites. Bush's war completely fucked the place up for the next century and you want to blame the guy who stupidly tried to clean it up and was most unsuccessful, then mostly left it alone, which should have been done from the beginning.

    Redneck Revolt: the armed leftwing group that wants to stamp out fascism

    "The history of the white working class has been a history of being an exploited people," he wrote. "However, we've been an exploited people that further exploits other exploited people. While we've been living in tenements and slums for centuries, we've also been used by the rich to attack our neighbors, coworkers, and friends of different colors, religions and nationalities."

    The encounter ended rather decisively: three local teenage girls had chased off the white nationalists.

    Hilarious article.

    Well done. You could have a real movement with that kind of rhe--

    "However, we've been an exploited people that further exploits other exploited people. While we've been living in tenements and slums for centuries, we've also been used by the rich to attack our neighbors, coworkers, and friends of different colors, religions and nationalities."

    Oh for fuck's sake.

    From the article:

    Max Neely approached them and asked, cautiously, whether they were interested in socialism.

    No, they responded. They identified themselves as members of Identity Evropa, a white nationalist group that endorses racial segregation and only admits applicants of "European, non-Semitic heritage". They had initially supported Trump as a presidential candidate, but were now in Harrisburg to protest him; they were disappointed that he had not yet created a white ethno-state.

    Good Lord, where do these people come from.

    ACTIVIST JUDGES FAULT!

    I mean, the stench of stupid is just so overpowering. Did these white nationalists really think Trump had the power to just wave a magic wand and kick out all the brown people?

  • Citizen X - #6||

    To be fair, plenty of loud people on the left seem to think he can do this, too.

    Rural central Pennsylvania is a scary place.

    I wonder how much of their certainty that Trump was going to be some white nationalist hero came from the excessive focus on the support he got from such people by democrats and the media.

    As far as I could see, Trump himself said pretty much nothing to support the notion.

  • chemjeff||

    Oh come on. Trump's entire campaign, particularly his excessive emphasis on the border wall, was a giant dog-whistle to the white nationalists. Trump didn't HAVE to say "kick out the brown people". The nationalists knew that Trump was on Team Whitey for his willingness to call illegals "rapists and murderers".

    "Jane Sanders complained about "sexism" in the FBI investigation into her alleged bank fraud."

    So let me see if I understand this. Jane Sanders claims that the FBI is investigating her as a way of attacking her husband, Sen. Bernie Sanders. And this constitutes:

    An abuse of power? No...
    Prosecutorial misconduct? No...
    Political retaliation? No...
    Violation of due process and constitutional rights? No...

    Sexism??? DING DING DING DING DING!!!!!!

    Scientists in Sweden say ravens can plan.

    They set up a series of experiments for five ravens, who were all allowed to participate on a voluntary basis,

    That's about enough of that! Time to put a gun to their heads and make them chip in for all the paved roads and healthcare.

    So why even bother having separate bathrooms then? The original point was for women's comfort, but if we are saying that that no longer matters, then there is little point in paying to have extra facilities.

  • AlmightyJB||

    I think we'll eventually be paying for individual private shower/changing rooms for everyone.

    Right. She was just extremely careless with the financial reports.
