Brickbat: Getting Charged Up

New York state Sen. Patricia Fahy (D–Albany) has introduced a bill to strip Tesla Motors of its permits for in-person sales in the state over CEO Elon Musk's actions in the Trump administration. "The bottom line is, Tesla has lost their right to promote these when they're part of an administration that wants to go backwards," said Fahy, who has previously been a supporter of electric vehicles. "Elon Musk was handed a privilege here." Tesla is the only dealer allowed direct in-person sales in the state. Meanwhile, Assemblymember Bobby Carroll (D–Brooklyn) said he wants to end all direct sales, forcing manufacturers to sell through franchises. "It allows for small businesspeople to be actors in this market," Carroll said. "They're not perfect, but they are clearly significantly better than the alternative. If we allowed the expansion of direct sales, what would happen is two or three people would control so much."

Everything is a privilege now... Nothing is a right any more. My right to invest in a stock market which isn't randomly jiggered nine ways to Sunday by an economic Ignoramus-Dicktator, for example, with chaotic tariff impositions and removals, is... Gone with the wind!
While an apt description of the situation how do you imagine this is a right? An expectation sure, but a right? Afraid not.
In libertopia, free of having my finances yanked around by an unconstitutional economic Ignoramus-Dicktator, I would have this right.
Vote Libertarian!
PS, it's getting worse. https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/11/customs-reports-glitch-in-system-used-by-freight-for-tariff-exemptions.html
What limit is there to having our traditional rights and freedoms turned into "privileges", anyway?
Who thought it was a good idea to give hysterical women like Patricia and Bobby the vote. The bottom line is, these ladies have lost their right to promote bills when they're part of a legislature that wants to go backwards.
Fucking New York commies.
What about ThE eNvIrOnMeNt?
Yep. A burning Tesla probably produces all sort of dangerous smoke.
By the time these Democrats are done cutting off their noses out of spite, they're not going to have ANY face left.

This is me... hoping that one day Reason's Barely Legal writing team will finally understand that it isn't and never was about electric vehicles.
So, my FIL *and* my BIL tried to push their Teslas off on us via my wife and our teen drivers. The teen drivers saw right through the ploy. Mrs. Casual, OTOH, *swore* up and down that it wasn't because of Elon and Trump.

"Salesgirl": Gee... I don't know much about cars but I'm pretty sure they're good for the environment [flips hair]. This one [TikTok 304 underhanded point] gets 300 mi. of range and, with a supercharger, takes less than an hour to fully recharge."
"Buyer": I'm really more in the market for 500 mi. of range and a 20 min. recharge time. Do you have anything you think could accommodate me?

When I was growing up in Tucson, 'Jim Click' was a city-wide name because he owned most of the auto-sale franchises in the city.
Right now their website lists 10 franchises.
