Brickbat: Friendly Skies, Unfriendly Ground

Kevin O'Rourke, a 64-year-old Canadian man, has been sentenced to life in prison for possession of cannabis and CBD products. O'Rourke was stopped and searched in the Dubai International Airport while traveling to South Africa. Authorities detained him after finding 118 grams of cannabis, CBD, and CBD oil. O'Rourke's wife says he suffers from Addison's disease, a condition in which the adrenal glands don't produce enough of some hormones, and the cannabis products are prescribed by his physician for controlling the pain.

Obviously a travesty but do people not research the prohibition stance of places they're traveling to/through? ffs
Of course not.
Women's reproductive rights are human rights, sex work is work, and borders are, like, abstract social constructs man. Canadian Society doesn't come to your country and harsh your buzz, why you gotta do this to Canadians?
Exactly. It's not relevant whether he was given the stuff by his physician in Canada or not. What is relevant is that he entered a country in possession of something they are not all in on. This is no different from that WNBA player Biden rescued from Russia when she hauled in cannabis. If she wasn't a black lesbian basketball player she would still be there.
Know the laws of the places you are travelling through or to and if you don't like them, don't go.
Do not visit savage countries. Duh.
Like Russia.
Or Canada.
Or France.
Or Australia.
Other countries are other countries, and while Western nations may not be perfect in respecting civil liberties, they are still exceptional in the world for doing so.
Except that in this case Dubai implemented their anti-drug policies under the arm-twisting of the Western nations you praise.
So you can quote chapter and verse where Western nations imposed pot prohibition on the ME?
Or are you actually trying to one-up Hank Phillips in a "Who can be the most retarded?" contest?
Next tell us how Singapore started caning people for graffiti because White, Western Devils forced them to, you dumb fuck.
"US support for foreign governments has often been contingent on their adherence to US drug policy. Major milestones in this campaign include the introduction of the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs in 1961, the Convention on Psychotropic Substances in 1971 and the United Nations Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances in 1988. A few developing countries where consumption of the prohibited substances has enjoyed longstanding cultural support, long resisted such outside pressure to pass legislation adhering to these conventions. Nepal only did so in 1976." - Wikipedia, see sources cited
In other words, the US Federal Government has used the same tactics against foreign nations that it uses against the states of the United States. And would you concede that the invasion of Panama might be an example of "imposing?"
When you travel internationally, you never know where you might get diverted by an emergency.
Plan accordingly.
Just like taking a cruise from a UD port that returns to a US port; take a real passport (not the card thing) just in case. If you get sick, or there is a mechanical failure, you might wind up in any country along the way looking for a flight home. And you will not get back in the US without a passport.

Go to Vegas; Go to Disneyland; take a cruise. I can think of endless alternatives to going to Dubai and putting yourself at risk of the both Puritanical and highly selective application of their laws.

So you're one of the millions of people who suffer from the delusion that the US is not puritanical or highly selective in the application of our laws? Or maybe you're one of the millions of people who have the delusion but do not suffer from it ...
Don't take narcotics into countries which deploy the liberal application of the Death Penalty for drug crimes.
Words to live by.
I've travelled all over the world and while I don't bring narcotics or other drugs with me I'm very careful to follow the laws of the country I'm in.
Prescribed by his American doctor?
Who isn't a doctor outside the US?
Why in the heck would you go into a totalitarian shithole without checking first?
"Prescribed by his American doctor?"
What's your source for claiming that the physician of a Canadian man is a US doctor rather than a Canadian doctor?
'O'Rourke's wife says he suffers from Addison's disease, a condition in which the adrenal glands don't produce enough of some hormones, and the cannabis products are prescribed by his physician for controlling the pain.'
Looks like he also suffers from stupidity.

Pro tip: If you travel internationally, it's a really good idea to check the country's list of prohibited stuff-- especially drugs. For instance, in Japan, Benadryl is illegal. Like...throw your ass in jail illegal. I'm not really sure why this even warrants a brickbat, except for the fact that it's CBD maaaaaan *makes joint-toking gesture* *lol snort*.
I mean, Jesus, Canada just passed a confiscation law on pretty much all semi-auto firearms and is mulling sending them to Ukraine, and we're bitching about the draconian drug laws in faraway dictatorship X?
“Confiscation could never happen here.”
How long WILL a waterproof gun case stay waterproof, buried under a lake, river, body of water…in Central Park…hmmm
has been sentenced to life in prison for possession of cannabis and CBD products
Why is this a brickbat? This is exactly what should happen.
Never ceases to astound me as to how people in Western Countries particularly the US and Canada are totally ignorant of the countries they are travelling through and what is illegal there while legal here. People seem to think everything around the world is just like it is here and that is why we get such stupid politicians in charge.
