Brickbat: Naked and Afraid

U.S. Reps. Grace Meng and Tim Kennedy, both Democrats from New York, have introduced a bill that bar the sale, transfer, or possession of Level 3 body armor to anyone but the military or police officers. Level 3 armor is designed to stop rifle rounds such as 7.62 mm. The bill is named for Aaron Salter Jr., a retired police officer who died trying to stop a 2022 mass shooting in Buffalo. Kennedy said Salter fired on and hit the gunman but the gunman was wearing body armor and was not stopped.

Your liberty is subject to government convenience.
Convenience? Wait for the ban on 3D-printed ghost armor plates. The shit they'll dream up, the bill's they'll file... anything but convenient to their subjugation efforts.
So the gunman is still out there?
Imagine if Ashli Babbitt had been wearing L3 body armor. The InSuRrEcTiOn may have been successful.
These two liberty loving Democratic Party members are correct; we can’t take a chance with this stuff being available to the citizenry.
"No, officer. This isn't body armor. It's a weight training vest. Just like the thing on the end of my rifle is an oil filter.
“But what if he shot you in the face?” -Harry
The 2nd Amendment protects private ownership of militia weapons; it would be logical for it also to protect private ownership of other militia-related equipment.
Since when have democrats cared about 2A protections?
Why do you care what Democrats think about the 2nd Amendment? They generally seem to wish it didn't exist--and act accordingly.
Should ban seat belts - as they enable suvs to drive through people uninterrupted.
Perhaps the retired officer should have been more familiar with the Mozambique Drill which is, as some put it, two to the chest, face gets the rest.
In short, my buying choices shouldn't be limited by the skill set and training, or lack thereof, of some retired cop.
I’m entirely convinced it’s bullshit (SSDD). We aren’t going to get to see the evidence that Salter and the shooter exchanged fire in a manner where the armor was critical.
You can already be 99.999% certain that the Level III is bullshit and Salter was only armed with a weapon that would be stopped by lower class IIA, II, or IIIA armor anyway.
Not to say that Salter wasn’t a hero and/or saved lives by sacrificing his own, but the idea that, had Level III armor or even all protection somehow been magically removed from the situation retroactively, Salter or other lives are saved is highly speculative. Even with armor, an actual rifle still breaks bones and gives pause, not to mention that pretty much every battle rifle, assault rifle, and automatic weapon/machine gun since the M1A was designed with the notion “If I fire a 5 rounds, 2 hit you in the plate or miss entirely, and 3 hit you in the leg it’s not going to matter.” It sounds like Salter missed several times, landed one hit that was maybe/maybe not on the mark. Mozambique is/was not an option.
Fine, but I'm going to just keep buying higher caliber ammunition.
Improve your aim and timing and you'll be better off.
This a poor craftsman who blames his tools, or even worse, the tools others have.
