Brickbat: Don't Forget Your Lines

Training materials for Scottish police say that actors performing a play could run afoul of the nation's new hate speech law, which bans communication that could stir up hatred of protected groups. Supporters of the law had claimed it would only apply to producers, directors, and others involved behind the scenes with a play, not the actors. Those found guilty of violating the law face up to seven years in prison.

When did the Scottish become such fucking pussies?
I mean, they're almost Canadian at this point.
Twat's wrong with fucking pussies?
MANY of us, such ass MEEEE, are lucky enough to do it all of the time, and more!
"Supporters of the law had claimed it would only apply to producers, directors, and others involved behind the scenes with a play, not the actors."
Which is no better a scenario than charging the actors.
Yeah, that made precisely the opposite of sense to me. So, they aren't going to charge the actual *performers* or *actors* who performed the act, they're going to "bust producers" (which, even in this country we all know means that the actor *and* producer who actually pulled the trigger and killed someone at the won't even face trial but the no-name armorer is going to get it good and hard despite otherwise being a literal nameless middle man between the same actor/producer who shot actually someone)?
I'm not sure it's fair to call the nepo-baby Armorer a "no name"; her name likely got her the job. Regardless of why that person was hired though, they were in a job which technically made them the person directly responsible for all of the weapons (both functional and prop guns) on the set.
When anyone in general is handed a weapon and told that it's "cold", basic gun safety would still put it on them to verify that the cylinder is, in fact, either empty or loaded with inert simulators; even then, basic safety rules would prevent someone from pointing that firearm at any person or other object they're not willing to put a bullet into. However, on a movie set there's such a complex web of union rules and contractual liabilities, compounded with the fact that the business of filming a movie often requires people to do things which would violate the basic rules of firearm safety.
As a producer on the movie, it's entirely possible that Baldwin might have some civil liability for the death, but there's a lot to potentially muddy the waters of what would normally be clear-cut rules regarding criminal liability.
So some classic plays won’t ever be performed again. Arthur Miller’s The Crucible is ostensibly about the Salem witch trials, so they would say it qualifies, and The Merchant of Venice has an unpleasant character who’s
Jewish. There are many more if you’re an authoritarian bent on putting a stop to artistic expression. Maybe it’s time Scotland had a revolt against the elite martinets like Ireland did.
Farewell the Scottish Play
Its msogynistic because Lady Macbeth is the perceived villain rather than her toxic male partner. And while were on the subject the use of Lady, is gendered insensitive language.
Don't forget the gross insensitivity to the Great Puddin' Race.

I'm just waiting for the Disney "re-imagining" along the same lines as Cruella or Malefecent where Lady McBeth is just a misunderstood hero who really had good intentions all along and it was her idiot husband who fucked everything up.
Well they can't do that because it would be blatantly racist to put it all on the idiot husband... oh wait, that's Othello, never mind.
imagine the audacity of the author to assume the gender of a fictional character being created within the context of such a work....
What utter nonsense. Try reading up on what the law actually says before spouting claptrap.
It's obviously a bad law, from a pretend parliament that was thrown to the scots as a sop to their racist elements, but it doesn't do anything like what you think.
Supporters of the law had claimed...
Evergreen lie.
Hating on women appears to still be OK, as the law only prohibits “bad think” against trans and intersex folks. See (e) and (f) below.
I also assume only gay people are off limits too (per (d) below), as I can’t imagine they’ll take anyone seriously if they complain that someone said bad things about them as a straight person.
If he were alive today, I’m pretty sure that William Wallace would disembowel himself instead of living with today’s Scots.

A person commits an offence if they communicate material, or behave in a manner, "that a reasonable person would consider to be threatening or abusive," with the intention of stirring up hatred based on
(a) age,
(b) disability,
(c) religion or, in the case of a social or cultural group, perceived religious affiliation,
(d) sexual orientation,
(e) transgender identity,
(f) variations in sex characteristics (sometimes known as being intersex)
Perhaps it was a mistake not to let Scotland go free. Scexit would have an effect like letting California out of the USA.
So "actor" is now a protected class and get away with shit the rest of us would end up in prison for?
Actually I'm pretty sure it's been that way for a while, at least here in the US. See Baldwin, Alec for just one example.
Speaking of scripts,
Former ESPN host Sage Steele revealed that her 2021 interview with President Biden was "scripted" by network executives.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Steele recalled the "structured" nature of the pre-taped interview, so much so that her ESPN bosses handed her a "script" to go off of.
"That was an interesting experience in its own right because it was so structured," Steele said. "And I was told, ‘You will say every word that we write out, you will not deviate from the script and go.’"
The question is, was Biden able to follow along or did mush-for-brains go off script?
I was outraged ... OUTRAGED I tell you! ... upon learning of this horrible, no good, very bad law! But then I read a little further into the article and realized that it was Scotland. Never mind ...
