Brickbat: Out of Sight, Out of Mind

An employee of Michigan's Walter Reuther Psychiatric Hospital, which is run by the state Department of Health and Human Services, alerted a local TV station that children being treated there had not been allowed outside in three months and that the windows to their classrooms had been covered up. The employee said that officials did not want adult patients at the hospital to see the children. When contacted about the claims, state officials told the station that "supply chain issues for fencing" had delayed the completion of a courtyard where the children could go outside. They also said they'd covered up the windows because supply chain issues had kept them from obtaining a reflective glaze to keep adult patients from seeing in the windows. But just hours after the station contacted state officials, the hospital began allowing the child patients to go outside.

All in all they're just another [lying] prick in the wall.
State authorities I believe everywhere are running out of places to store troubled kids, and I can only imagine the lockdowns created a surge.
Still true; the only error is getting caught.
children being treated there had not been allowed outside in three months
You mean, like Dec., Jan., and Feb.?
First, even those of us in the Great White North go outside in Dec, Jan and Feb. Second, no, it was mid-June through mid-September.
First, I live as far North as the psychiatric hospital in question.
Second, it's funny, 3 yrs. of school closures and this is about as uppity I've seen you get about kids being locked inside. Personally, compared to the number of kids that have had psychosis induced in them over the past 3 yrs. because of school closures *and* the number of kids that have had psychosis induced in them because of activist teachers, to say nothing of the long standing failures of public school systems to effectively treat or handle these sorts of kids or even ones better off than they are, I'm not going to lose any sleep over a couple dozen kids who already had psychoses and have had to 'suffer' the equivalent of spending the winter indoors literally/supposedly as the result of supply chain issues.
Somebody snitched, the admins rearranged schedules so the kids got to go outside. No actual crimes committed. Case closed.
Why do you hate children?
First, they weren't locked in during the winter. They were locked in during the only good outdoor times we get up north. Second, I would differentiate this from the school closures and lockdowns. With the exception of a few jurisdictions, most of us still got some outdoor time even if it wasn't during school at recess. These kids (who, yes, already have mental illnesses) were denied even that small grace. Hell, they couldn't even look out the windows at the sun. Studies of submariners and others in those kinds of deep seclusion show that such conditions can cause mental problems even in the healthy. Imposing those conditions on those already unhealthy is active abuse. It might not be criminal but it is certainly inhumane and deserving of condemnation.
First, they weren’t locked in during the winter.
So, they went from just spending it inside to being "locked" inside based on your whimsical perception? Per your own retardation, just because a school doesn't allow kids to go out to play in -20 degree weather doesn't mean no kids went outside.
Studies of submariners and others in those kinds of deep seclusion show that such conditions can cause mental problems even in the healthy.
Whom do you're think you're fooling with your "I'm actively playing dumb and getting dumber while doing so!" performance?
What’s wrong, mad? You used to make insightful comments and coherent rejoinders. The reply above looks like someone whose medication is interfering with their reading comprehension.
The “they” in “they weren’t locked in during the winter” refers to the minor patients at the psychiatric hospital in the article above. Those kids most definitely were locked in for three month – they just were not winter months.
This is mind-numbingly stupid even by your standards. Patients in psychiatric hospitals generally have their movements closely observed and sharply restricted. If that doesn't count as "locked in", what the hell does? And it's entirely reasonable to think this treatment couldn't possibly be doing their mental health any favors. Rossami is absolutely right that this kind of isolation can have negative effects on people, and these kids were already having problems serious enough to get them institutionalized.
Actual crimes were committed - child abuse - somebody snitched, and the crimes stopped.
Supply chain issues... all the cages are being used at the border.
The kids were all would-be superstar rappers who were turning their lives around until the psychiatric hospital kept them inside for 3 mos.
Congrats, you've officially taken a new level in retardation.
Yes Virginia, there really is a Fourth Estate--besides just Reason magazine.
nobody in Dallas went outside the last 3 months either. 135 degrees every day. birds exploding in midair.
Calm down, it's not like they're being denied Gender Affirming Care.
Question: Were they allowed outside during the Pandemic?
Just turn them loose on the NY City subway and call it a day.
