California Lawmakers Propose Unemployment Benefits for Striking Workers
Plus: GOP hopefuls debate tonight, Canadian link tax backfires, and more...

California lawmakers are proposing extending unemployment benefits to workers who are on strike. Striking workers would be eligible to collect unemployment payments after two weeks.
The proposal comes as part of legislation—S.B. 799—that previously dealt with prison visits. It passed out of the state's Senate in May and was sent to the Assembly.
This week, one of the bill's authors—state Sen. Anthony Portantino (D–25th district)—completely amended it, striking the previous text related to inmate visitation entirely. S.B. 799 now deals solely with unemployment compensation for workers in labor disputes.
Under existing California law, people are ineligible for unemployment benefits if they voluntarily left a job because of a trade dispute and remain ineligible for the duration of the strike.
Under the amended bill, striking employees would be eligible for unemployment benefits after two weeks on strike.
The bill would also make explicit that employees who leave work due to a lockout by an employer anticipating a trade dispute are also eligible for benefits (something that has been previously established by California case law but not explicitly spelled out under state statute).
Today I introduced SB 799 to provide unemployment benefits to striking workers. Grateful for collaboration of @SenMariaEDurazo & @ChrisHoldenLA joint authors and @CaliforniaLabor federation for its tremendous leadership on this issue. @LALabor @seiucalifornia @CalTeamstersPAC

The first Republican presidential primary debate starts tonight at 9 p.m. Former President Donald Trump will not take part, opting instead for an online interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. On stage at the debate will be former Vice President Mike Pence, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, South Carolina* Sen. Tim Scott, and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum. The debate will air on Fox News, Fox Business, and Fox's streaming platforms. The Republican National Committee has also partnered with Rumble to livestream the debate.

Another Advanced Placement class runs into trouble with state regulators. Arkansas is reviewing the content of an A.P. African American Studies course to make sure it doesn't run afoul of a law banning the teaching of "critical race theory." The state has already said that it's not an approved class and doesn't count toward high school graduation credit.
Five school districts said they will continue to offer the course anyway. One of the schools that will keep teaching it is Little Rock Central High School, which was home to the "Little Rock Nine" desegregation efforts in 1957.
"Given some of the themes included in the pilot, including 'intersections of identity' and 'resistance and resilience' the Department is concerned the pilot may not comply with Arkansas law, which does not permit teaching that would indoctrinate students with ideologies, such as Critical Race Theory," Education Secretary Jacob Oliva wrote in a letter to these school districts, asking them to submit more information about their courses.
The Arkansas scuffle follows a debate in Florida over whether A.P. Psychology courses violated the state's ban on "age-appropriate" education around gender and sexuality.
Florida has also blocked high schools from offering A.P. African American Studies classes.

Media outlets mad after Canada's link tax backfires. A new law in Canada requires social media platforms and search engines to pay every time someone links to a news publication. It's a ridiculous plan—publications benefit more from being linked than the other way around—that has been gaining support in the U.S.
"Everyone explained (repeatedly) to the Canadian government how this would flop, they still went forward with it," notes Mike Masnick at Techdirt:
In response Meta and Google (the two targets the Canadian government were trying to extort with this new law) announced that they would no longer allow any news links in Canada. Meta has already begun phasing out links to news in Canada.
The legacy media, which promoted this without the slightest bit of critical analysis (after all they were going to get paid, so why spend any time exploring the downside to such a tax?) is now losing its remaining braincells over this. A bunch of legacy Canadian media orgs are demanding a regulatory investigation of Meta over this move.
CBC/Radio-Canada has joined other news publishers and broadcasters in requesting that Canada's Competition Bureau investigate Meta's decision to block news content on its digital platforms in Canada, describing the social media giant's decision as "anticompetitive."
As Masnick points out, media and politicians pushed the link tax law under the guise of antitrust action, suggesting that search and social platforms linking to news was anticompetitive. Now, they say that not linking to news is anticompetitive. Once again, tech companies can't win.

What’s up Peanuts?
Pharma Bro Vivek Ramaswamy was already millionaire when he accepted Soros award he said he needed to pay for law school

Trouble in Bollywood!
Yeah, that's pretty concerning. Your evil boss has a lot of fingers in different pies.
I'm making $90 an hour working from home. I never imagined that it was honest to goodness yet my closest companion is earning 16,000 US dollars a month by working on the connection, that was truly astounding for me, she prescribed for me to attempt it simply. Everybody must try this job now by just using this website... http://www.Payathome7.com
Also,
"Trouble in Bollywood!"
Ramaswamy is American, isn't he?
Were you just being racist again?
Need to see his birth certificate.
turd, the ass-clown of the commentariat, lies; it’s all he ever does. turd is a kiddie diddler, and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.
If anything he posts isn’t a lie, it’s totally accidental.
turd lies; it’s what he does. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit.
it is interesting, while buttplug really hates the Republicans, he REALLY hates Republicans that have a little darker skin tone.
I mean, maybe its just coincidence, but a pattern is emerging.
Emerging? He, in particular, but leftists in general have been like that for a long time.
Emerging? Hell, Turd’s been fairly consistently racist the whole time.
Traitors have always been even more reviled than the enemy.
“Well I tell you what, if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.”
Folks whose families are from India are considered White-adjacent, like other Asians, so it’s all right to be racist towards them.

California lawmakers are proposing extending unemployment benefits to workers who are on strike.
Incentivizing people to not work. Novel.
What about looters after thier favorite Neiman Marcus is forced out of business?
Reparations.
No cost to consumers unlike tariffs. Just ask Boehm.
Socializing the costs union negotiating tactics on people who do not belong to that union or even any union. Somebody tell the Democrats to get bent.
It's a good thing really. The faster they run out of other people's money to spend the faster the carnival of silliness will stop.
Last time they were starting to run out of money, we got COVID and they got bailed out.
Next up. Unemployment benefits for undocumented migrants who have never paid unemployment taxes.
Isn't Denver doing that? Or was it just health care?
California lawmakers are proposing extending unemployment benefits to workers who are on strike. Striking workers would be eligible to collect unemployment payments after two weeks.
I'm actually a bit surprised California took this plunge first. Usually this is the type of thing Illinois does first.
Well, California has some really wealthy unions that are striking now. Let's not pretend this is about your average workers, this is about Hollywood.
Good point.
California tried to pass the bill in 2019 as well.
This just in: California lawmakers are idiots. Film at 11.
Seriously though, this basically tips the scales in any labor dispute in favor of one side every time. I don't see how it could possibly be viewed as a viewpoint-neutral law.
I don't know what the multi-millionaire actors are going to do with the extra $325/week, but it might be a big deal to the extras and writers and such.
It isn't meant to be viewpoint neutral.
There is a D supermajority, and the whole state pretty much gets fucked in the ass by Hollywood and the Bay Area, where the loudest media voices trumpet the progressive message.
If unions want concessions, some lackey at the Capitol is going to give them. They've gerrymandered the state well enough they're not going to get any opposition, so the folks funding the campaigns are just asking for their payback.
Sounds vaguely familiar other than changing out "Hollywood and the Bay Area" for "Chicago".

Everyone explained (repeatedly) to the Canadian government how this would flop, they still went forward with it...
Should have engineered a truck horn to sound that explanation for them.
A bunch of legacy Canadian media orgs are demanding a regulatory investigation of Meta over this move.
It was their job to analyze the likely outcome of government actions!
A not insignificant portion of Canadian news organizations are directly funded by the Canadian government. They really do not have any incentive to do any such investigation.
I'm sure they can do a NYT or WaPo level investigation of reading exactly what the leftist regime tells them. Wouldn't expect them to do anything else as that isn't true modern journalism.
Good old socialism vs fascism.
Fake opprobrium by the three biggest legacy Canadian media orgs. They know that Trudeau will increase the subsidies he's been paying them, and that this action is to kill their smaller competition.
They're trying to shift the blame from Trudeau to Meta for him.
Funny they still allow links to govt agencies websites, shouldn't those have the last and greatest from the government on the status of the wild fires?
A new report credits this to not just population growth in Florida but also the state's education vouchers and other programs promoting school choice.
Add to that the number of "ethnics" populating the state.
“Of the 10 states with the highest Catholic school enrollment, Florida is the only one where Catholic school enrollment has grown over the past decade,” notes the Wall Street Journal editorial board. A new report credits this to not just population growth in Florida but also the state’s education vouchers and other programs promoting school choice. Another recent report notes that Jewish kindergarten enrollment in Florida is also up.
The Church timed that just right for their coffers getting exhausted and Dioceses going belly up over sexual abuse claims. Now they’re reaching for the dole.
The Lubavichers and Orthodoxers no doubt are also verklempt that Secularization is also taking away Jewish enrollees in Yeshiva. Good thing too. All that nodding back and forth might cause Shaken Baby Syndrome in adults.
Man that was a lot of bigotry. Catholic schools in general out perform public at a lower cost as vouchers get paid less per student than a public school gets.
Who are you to stop a parent from choosing their schools?
Anti-theism is a religion. It doesn't have to make sense.
Talk about sense.
My idea of school choice is to abolish compulsory schooling laws and to abolish as many forms of taxation as possible, so that parents and guardians can invest their own money in the classes, books, curricula, and smart devices of their choice.
And they could do this both with or without brick-and-mortar schools as homeschoolers or unschoolers. And doing this means no one has to subsidize forms of education they may not agree with or providers who aren't a good fit.
That would be actual choice, not keeping compulsory schooling laws while doing this "let the tax Dollars follow the student" nonsense called school vouchers or "Big Brother May I start or enroll in a 'charter school' or 'magnet school?'"
And if every parent, guardian, and child can freely invest their own time and money, without the limited and horrible choices of both Religion and State, how is that "a lot of bigotry?"
Link to Florida diocese going belly up?
Canada banned them - - - - - - - -
The guy never cites his blathering. Just spews his anti-religion religion.
See below. It's no different than Business 101, only it's applied to a Church whose Home Office is a Nation-State.
Competant Business eats nothing, though in the case of The Roman Catholic Church and The Vatican and other religions, it will eat a lot of somebodies to try and stay afloat.
When any Diocese anywhere goes bankrupt from lawsuits over sexual abuse from the Clergy. the whole Church gets hit up by The Vatican and the whole Church Body does without as a result.
Man, I feel bad for the Laity riding along on this soon-to-derail crazy train.
No you don't.
It might surprise you to learn that Catholic schools and the diocese that they are situated in geographically are in fact separate entities. And separate entities from the Vatican.
That's how the San Fran diocese can declare bankruptcy without closing any schools or parishes.
I didn't go to Catholic school, but I did go to a private Christian one (Lutheran). They consistently out-performed the local public high school, down the road a few blocks, in just about everything but football, for less than 1/3 the price spent per student. They actually made enough money on tuition to be able to offer scholarships and grants for students in need.
We would no doubt see how long that would last if the school and Diocese taught something anathema to Vatican Dogma. Either the teachers and school officials would be replaced or they could be Excommunicated.
If the school you mentioned outperformed Gummint Skoolz, it would certainly have no problem earning it's tuition and getting subscribing enrollees without Gummint Vowchurs.
It didn't receive any government funding whatsoever.
Yours didn't, of course, but St. Isadore of Seville Virtual Charter School in Oklahoma is now the first publically-funded religious school.

BDSM and kids.
https://www.spiked-online.com/2023/08/23/pride-book/
Truly we have reached the seventh circle of woke lunacy. This week it was reported that a mum and dad in Hull in the north of England pulled their four-year-old daughter from a pre-school after she was shown a book called "Grandad’s Pride" which contains illustrations of ‘men who are partially naked in leather bondage gear’. The pre-school’s response? According to the mum and dad, it branded them ‘bigots’.
"Grandad’s Pride" is written by Harry Woodgate, an award-winning children’s author who uses they / them pronouns. Of course he does. Or of course they do. Whatever. It tells the story of a girl called Milly, who is playing in her gramps’ attic one day when she happens upon an old Pride flag. She asks what it is and grandad suggests they organise their own Pride march in the village. As you do. Then come the iffy illustrations: old men in fetish gear; a ‘trans man’ (ie, woman) with mastectomy scars under her nipples; an activist in a spiked dog collar waving a placard that says: ‘Break the cis-tem.’ And you thought "Where the Wild Things Are" was scary.
You don’t have to be a prude to think this is ridiculous bordering on sinister. My view is that consenting adults should do whatever they want. Wear chafing leather trousers, pierce your cock, whip your friends in dim-lit dungeons. It’s not my cup of tea, but knock yourselves out. But it’s not for kids!
One of the most frustrating things for freedom-lovers like me is that when we raise questions about age-inappropriate woke crap in schools, we get lumped with the religious right or PC fanatics who previously waged war on classic texts like Judy Blume’s "Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret" (too much talk about menstruation, apparently) and John Steinbeck’s "Of Mice and Men" (too many utterances of the n-word). Nonsense. Of course schoolkids should read Blume and Steinbeck. Teens in particular should be expected to engage with challenging texts, even ones that contain racial epithets or girls eagerly awaiting their first period.
But what’s happening today is different. Genuinely inappropriate books – and ideas – are being pushed on kids. Not just at nurseries in Hull. In the US, "Gender Queer" by Maia Kobabe (e / em / eir pronouns) has pissed off parents because it contains illustrations of blowjobs and whatnot. There was a storm in the US in 2021 when parents discovered that a coming-of-age novel called "Lawn Boy", by Jonathan Evison, was available in some school libraries. Typical prudish parents? Not so fast. That novel describes two 10-year-old boys giving each other oral sex.
This is not the modern equivalent of getting 11-year-olds to read the confronting tale of George and Lennie. Steinbeck, Blume, Shakespeare, Chaucer, Dickens, and many more besides, can rattle the young, of course, but fundamentally they open young minds. The new LGBTQetc stuff does the opposite. It indoctrinates rather than enlightens. It instructs rather than informs. It is about social engineering, not literary illumination.
It feels like no time in a kid’s life is free from ideology anymore. They’re fed woke in pre-school. They’re bombarded with gender ideology when they’re a little older. Puberty might be difficult – ‘Have you thought of suspending it?’, some are asked in their teens.
Sending your child to school is becoming child abuse.
Sending your child to public school is child abuse.
FTFY.
Snow White literally includes mouth rape and youre complaining about old men in bondage gear?
Your evil twin JeffyAZ
I was unaware the story involved the Prince sticking his cock inside Snow White's mouth.
Grimms original was too much for 1940s snowflakes.
Yeah, the Evil Queen dies quite a nasty death in the original telling, at the hands of Prince Charming. That got sanitized out of the Disney version.
You can't get consent from a woman in a magical coma.
Sir. All unwanted contact without a form in triplicate is rape.
“Grandad’s Pride”
Very few old gay men have grandkids. Maybe the teacher needs to a book that graphically demonstrates how babies get made?
Leela: Make something up? Um… Okay. [Leela sits on a small chair.] Once upon a time, there was a… A…
Sally: Princess?
Leela: Yes! That! A… One-eyed princess in a long, flowing… Tank top. And she lived in a magical, one-room…
Sally: Castle?
Leela: Anyhow, one day, the princess went off to… Uh… Tell a story! And, then, that’s exactly what she did do that. And they all lived happily ever after. The end.
[Albert raises his hand.]
Albert: Miss Leela? I have a question!
Leela: Yes, Albert?
Albert: That story was bad.
Leela: That’s not really a question.
Albert: That wasn’t really a story.
Seriously, the projection/wish fulfillment/author insert is terrible. A kid old enough to play alone in the attic that doesn’t have at least a vague idea what a pride flag is? A “Proud” Grandad who, uh, just stuck his pride flag in the attic so, uh, the plot could happen, I guess. A village, seemingly brimming with BDSM and trans people lurking in the shadows, I guess, waiting for the protagonist to learn what pride is and throw them a pride parade?
At least Aesop’s and The Brothers Grimm’s tales had talking animals, dancing corpses, dragons, witches, etc., or were otherwise socially redeemable.
Great stories are great because they don't have an explicit message. Where the Wild Things Are is a fantastic story because kids can figure out on their own that Max deserved to be sent to bed, just like they can figure out on their own that his mom still loves him because she brings him dinner anyway at the end. And they can figure out on their own that while it is fun to throw a rager, eventually it gets old.
Meanwhile, I found this in my newsfeed this morning.
https://www.nyu.edu/about/news-publications/news/2023/august/new-research-finds-way-to-reduce-bias-in-children.html
Study finds that if you indoctrinate kids about structural inequality, they begin to see it everywhere. Quelle surprise!
I think we have a motive behind the progressive nature of the modern grade school curriculum.
Trump's latest tariffs plan would make everything more expensive.
Elton John wrote a song about Tariff Man:
Trump picked my pockets last night pre-flight
Zero hour 9:00 a.m.
And I’m gonna be broke
As a bum by then
I miss liberty so much I miss my life
It’s lonely without Nancy Mace
On such a worthless flight
And I think it’s gonna be a long, long time
‘Til Tariff Man brings me ’round again to find
I’m not the rich man they think I am at home
Oh, no, no, no
I’m not a MAGA man
Tariff Man, burning up my cash up here alone
The paid troll decides to try Sqrlsy's schtick.
You need more capslock Pluggo.
Well we got us a goddamn resurgence of folky-ass country tunes like ‘Rich Men North of Richmond’ that champion a Marxist workers rebellion to counter low pay and overtime conditions down at the Hollar.
I'm just doing my part to protest Tariff Man.
1. Keep your fifty cent day job, Pluggo.
2. You completely miss the point of "Rich Men North of Richmond". It's about control, not money.
Youre now just recycling your retarded talking points.
I'm guessing the ActBlue Memo hasn't been emailed yet today.
That song is becoming a good litmus test for which side of the fence people are on. If your take away is that the song is promoting communism or is "punching down" then you might be an elitist asshole.
It was terrible yesterday too.
Why do you support Tariff Man?
You mean Biden, or Bush? Maybe Obama?
Why do you support a man who lies about his life's experiences and jokes while recovery teams are still looking for charred children?

I think what was key about this legislation is that it did not have the term 'abortion' in it, and because of that, it did not become a political football...
Good thing certain voters are too dumb to sniff these things out on their own, I guess.
Some interesting commentary on shrinking class divides...
The upper class should have found out the past few years they're much closer to the peasants than the decision makers.
"Everyone explained (repeatedly) to the Canadian government how this would flop, they still went forward with it," notes Mike Masnick at Techdirt"
Everyone knows the real reason the Trudeau government wanted this was to kill small and medium sized local papers who relied on social media for transmission.
Make no mistake. This is a massive censorship effort by Canada's answer to Francisco Franco. The only ones who are going to survive this are his friends at Post, Bell and Globe Media and the government owned CBC.
That anyone could buy into "we are going to make social media platforms pay news media for the free advertising the platforms had been giving them" is amazing.
The ignoring that the other way to comply with the law was simply not linking to Canadian news media and reacting "They cannot do that, can they?" is hilarious.
They knew this was going to happen because it happened before when other nations passed these laws. This was clearly intentional: a deliberate attack on small independent news organizations.
The large, government friendly ones are subsidized by the Canadian government, so they don't care.
Wish ENB would stop trying to make Masnick a thing. Her beard should be worried she is cheating on him.
Unintended consequences? To them it sounded like a great idea, with the worst of intentions. But did they really not see this coming? Can they really be this stupid? Or maybe we should be asking what's next on their agenda.
Hey "centrists" come get ya boy...

Rap is today's equivalent of people a hundred years ago walking around reciting poetry. A Martian anthropologist would process no difference between the girl cherishing her Edna St. Vincent Millay in 1925 and the girl cherishing her Kendrick Lamar today.
[Link]
That's a pretty stupid take. Look at the general subject matters, and delivery.
Poetry spans much of the human condition while appraises being a horrible person
Ya, this. Poetry while recited by anyone who appreciated it, was most often written by people with some deeper grasp of the human experience, and an ability to convey that. Even if they weren't the highest in terms of status, those who wrote great poetry clearly had some depth of thought.
Rap for most of its existence has basically been narcissistic, braggadocios, "Im the best, I fuck all them hoes, Ill kill anyone who fucks with me" lines that often come from the bottom of the barrel, most base, and frankly boring in terms of any depth of thought.
McWhorter, the mighty intellect that he is supposed to be, should be able to make the distinction. Would be like comparing one of his debates/speeches to an argument between two gen Z kids about which Pokemon card is better and saying "these are similar things"
Poetry while recited by anyone who appreciated it, was most often written by people with some deeper grasp of the human experience, and an ability to convey that.
There once was a lad from Nantucket, ...
Fine, rap is the modern version of limericks, I can buy that.
That's a stupid debate, everyone knows the charzar card is the best
everyone knows the charzar card is the best
Is that a character from the bootleg Russian version of the game?
The writers are pissed because they have been on strike for a few months and not a single person noticed or care. Perhaps if they were better at their jobs people would take notice, but now they are going for straight theft
Sarc can't go much longer without getting his news from Colbert.
I remembered the words "cock holster" and chuckled.
The last writers strike hit when around a time when people were falling on hard times, they needed entertainment for an escape, and they actually enjoyed a lot of the shows / movies out there.
There might be many having hard financial times now, but everything else is the opposite. People are fed up with shows/movies riddled with amateur writing, and far left-wing talking points mixed in at every opportunity. Even the more "safe" movies with less overt messaging are not that interesting.
They chose to strike at a time of an entertainment cultural nadir, one which was created due to their own incompetence and hubris. Last time people were at least somewhat rooting for them so they could get their shows back (even if it was thought that many in hollywood are spoiled brats). Now a plurality (if not majority) is actively rooting against them.

Like I pointed out to that idiot Nelson the other day, Disney as well as the other studios and their employees have spent the last several years alienating and antagonizing their audience to the point that 25-40% of them now won't just automatically consume their shit anymore. Disney in particular is getting shit-hammered with L after L throughout the entire company with Bud Light-tier brand rejection that it really can't afford to lose.
This wasn't a big deal when everyone was getting ZIRP loans and the studios could afford to waste money on a lot of shit that barely anyone watched, much less the blockbuster stuff. They've gone out of their way to subvert their audience's favorite IPs, can't come up with anything new that isn't largely self-indulgent crap, and the studios are losing hundreds of millions as a result. Those credit lines through Blackrock only go so far before the bill has to be paid.
On top of that, the writers are being retarded as hell by demanding that writers rooms have multiple people that aren't really needed on productions. They know damn well that there's too much supply for the demand, but before the industry started going tits-up, they basically just used these rooms as paid therapy sessions by bitching and whining about their lives instead of making good entertainment. Now that the studios are going to replace them with AI, they're panicking because they're realizing how expendable they really are.
My longtime Usenet ally, Christopher Charles Morton, (who had greatly influenced my own political views for twenty-five years, wrote this about Playboy.

I really didn't know it was still going on. TV shows have been dreadful. I actively avoid watching anything because I know they are going to destroy some show or world that I used to love.
Twitter is reportedly experimenting with a verification program that will require people to submit a selfie and a copy of a government-issued ID.
Blue Checks hardest hit.
U.S. home sizes are shrinking.
McDoublewides.
Logically, which is the better choice; a paid for 2000 square foot double wide, or a 2000 square foot stick built house with a quarter million dollar mortgage?
Which has a pool?
In SE Missouri, I see a lot of double-wides with above-ground pools and huge satellite dishes.
Actually, some single-wides too.
Paid off mortgage? WTF is that?
It’s what those of us that take responsibility for our own finances are working on.
The responsible thing to do is to pay cash! :-/
I was recently in Belize. They can't get mortgages there, so they just build as much of the house as they can afford and leave rebar sticking out for when they get enough to add on. People don't need to be subsidized.
It’s like that in poorer areas of southern Italy as well.
Mexico invented the tactic I think. Anyway, it's a good idea to be building with grouted-in CMU instead of 2x's in a hurricane-prone area like Belize.
Shrinking home sizes is WAY overdue. More accurately, the existence of a supply of smaller houses is way overdue. But it ain’t really happening and won’t happen in future either. The housing market distortions ain’t ending. They only drive housing size higher. They eliminate housing stock that is lower size or that serves to meet any non-nuclear family demand. They reduce new construction of even R1 (has dropped by 50% since 2009 and has been lower than anytime since the early 20th century for that entire decade).
I suspect the latter is how they will game those stats. Look only at the tiny number of new-builds – where each new build actually destroys more units than it creates – and pretend that size is dropping to ‘meet demand’.
When it comes to housing, Americans are completely corrupted by the desire for govt to continually increase the price of houses. So ‘decreasing the size of newbuilds while reducing the total supply’ will serve that purpose now that mortgage rates are subsidized a bit less than they used to be.
Look only at the tiny number of new-builds – where each new build actually destroys more units than it creates – and pretend that size is dropping to ‘meet demand’.
Zoning laws are a big factor here. I grew up in the beach communities of L.A. Starting in the 1990s, the aging of California beach bungalows built in the 1920s - 1950s combined with passage of R2 zoning spurred a boom of two townhouses cropping up on just about every lot.
Mostly agree - It's probably 60% zoning laws and 40% building codes that are responsible for not permitting smaller residences. There are sections in both types of codes that set limits on how small a domicile may be, based on several factors.
Originally they were put there in reaction to slum-style 'tenement' housing that popped up in a number of major cities. Local municipalities are, of course, able to strike those aspects of the codes in most places (California isn't one of them), but they are much more likely to add their own requirements rather than remove unnecessary ones, even when that option is available.
Just in case:
https://codes.iccsafe.org/content/CABC2022P2/chapter-12-interior-environment#CABC2022P2_Ch12_Sec1208
Beach houses are special since you can sell tiny homes for huge amounts of money.
In many other places, you have fixed costs of hundreds of thousands of dollars sure to permitting and regulations, and the rational thing to do is to build a big, expensive house.
The next housing bubble pop will likely be a lot worse than the last one, just because the supply/demand ratio is so distorted to the point that the cost inflation has been massive. It doesn't help that at lot of these new developments are also in HOAs with draconian building restrictions. At least in the 50s and 60s, the smaller, 1000 to 1200 square foot homes could have rooms added on, or carports turned into garages, etc.
The biggest mistake is that these metro areas were all encouraging people to move in without making any plans to actually incentivize multi-unit housing development to accommodate them.
"...Put another way, we may feel more polarized than we actually are," writes poet Jesse Nathan in The New York Times.
Talk like that is going to put The Times out of business, or at least the current business model.
I did a search on the exact line "we may feel more polarized than ..." and got multiple hits from almost every year in the mainstream media as far back as 2014 before I stopped scrolling. After doing everything they could do to guarantee we would all feel increasingly polarized over the last five or six decades, now mainstream media wants us to back down in order to preserve THEIR "democracy" - is anyone surprised?
They just finished a 25 year push which has gotten them all the way from "infidelity by a President or candidate for President is unacceptable" to the war on climate, world-wide race riots, deviant sex propaganda in pre-schools, and men competing as women in weightlifting. Suddenly we need to dial back the divisive rhetoric?
Trump's latest tariffs plan
NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION! Fucking tyrant.
The Trump Cult has no problem with Donnie's high taxes/tariffs.
And his Record Federal Spending? They love it.
It really is a cult.
I would wager if one were to interview a bunch of MAGAs at one of his rallies few would know much about his tariffs.
Cite?
You are as represented as everybody who pays income tax. So wtf are you complaining about?
Tariffs are far preferable to income tax. Increase tariffs, decrease income tax.
"Some interesting commentary on shrinking class divides"
I always enjoy reading about "shrinking class divides" from an operation that exists to promote the financial interests of a silver spoon billionaire.
It's just too bad Mr. Koch isn't enjoying Biden Year 3 as much as the rest of the world's top 20 richest people.

"an operation that exists to promote the financial interests of a silver spoon billionaire."
Best description yet.
ENB reporting on Texas abortion "ban"? I am sure she is honest in her descriptions and analysis. I'm guessing the life threatening conditions are ectopic pregnancies which are stated as not viable. In every "life threatening" story it turns out to be an activist obgyn that pushes patients to the brink to prove a point. Women don't get an activist obgyn
Came to say similar, activist doctors putting their patients at risk for political purposes.
What evidence is there that this is happening?
Haven't read the story this time because I noticed a pattern, but the last 4 times ENB mentioned this same situatioon 3 had been cases of ectopic pregnancy which are exempt, and the other being the famous case in indianna of the little girl that got raped by mamas illegal boyfriend, so they had to go to Il. The issue is that in Indiana that would be allowed, but they would ask questions. Where as IL will do it and not ask if a pregnant 12 year old was raped
Although there is no possible doubt that there are, in fact, "activist" doctors pushing a political agenda (the AMA now represents a major segment of such) that doesn't mean that idiotic laws don't have major adverse unintended consequences for honest doctors placed unwillingly on the front lines of the culture wars, who only want to give good medical care to their patients. Let's put the shoe on the other foot: if, say, the Texas Legislature passed a law saying that you would be punished if you left your house "except in a life-threatening emergency," would you be reluctant to leave your home if, say, the stove caught fire? Would you pause, at least briefly, to consider whether trying to put out the fire and possibly being burned badly - or leaving the house and calling the fire department and risking conviction for violating the law - which might be worse? Think twice before answering, please!
Let’s put the shoe on the other foot: if, say, the Texas Legislature passed a law saying that you would be punished if you left your house “except in a life-threatening emergency,” would you be reluctant to leave your home if, say, the stove caught fire?
Sorry, but that analogy doesn't hold. If the fire gets out of control despite my best efforts to contain it, you better believe I'm getting the fuck out of there. And if we're going to argue that federalism is one of the better systems of government in a highly diverse and atomized nation, then what each state passes for its abortion laws shouldn't matter since people will move to the states that have laws in place that they support.
Agreed, but it wasn't intended to be an analogy, just an illustration of a similar law that takes the difficult position well-meaning doctors face out of that context and makes it more personal for people who have just been "locked down" for a couple of years.
So if they pass a bill mandating illegal detention what would I do?
Your analogy is weak too, since it isn't the doctor's "house" on fire but the neighbors. Do you leave your house to help put out your neighbors fire risking your own liberty in the process?
Depends, did the dei hire shut off the water to the fire hydrant?
If it's for equity it's all good.
^ This. I see conservatives here casually brushing off doctors’ concerns as posturing.
No consideration that doctors don’t want to lose their hard-earned livelihood, including the income that allows them to repay all their college debts and live an upper middle class lifestyle. Or any consideration that doctors are being advised to be cautious by the legal staffs of the hospitals and medical networks they work for/with.
It’s easy to expect the other guy to take great risks with his livelihood for the sake of your partisan idealogy.
*cough*Jordan Peterson*cough*
I don't see anything unintended about it. Pregnancies have consequences and risks. Think about them before you get pregnant or don't get pregnant. And Texas, like all states, still gives you early options even if you screw up.
Lying liars and the lying liars who enable them.
https://johnkassnews.com/will-joe-biden-ever-stop-lying/
Remember when CNN, MSNBC, New York Times, Washington Post and Chicago Tribune—among other liberal media outlets–gathered together and in one loud angry voice decided to tell President Joe Biden to stop lying?
National media has been too busy kissing Joe’s behind to call out his many lies. They protect him from reality until even they must admit that the old man is wandering around with no clothes, the same way that Chicago media kissed Daley’s behind to protect him from the reality that he and the Illinois Democrats were spending bankrupt Chicago and bankrupt Illinois into oblivion.
But the other day there was China Joe commiserating with survivors of the Maui wildfires mourning the untold loss of lives and property destroyed by the wildfires in Hawaii. An Obama connected bureaucrat who strongly believes in “water equity” was behind the delay of hours and hours to release water to fight the fires. The people died from idiocy, and politics. And to make it worse, the survivors were lied to by Biden. CNN declared him to be “empathizer in chief.”
On Maui after visiting the fire ravaged lands, the president took the opportunity to emote, to ‘connect,’ and like so many of his stories, it was all lies.
Of course, he wouldn’t do this if the media wouldn’t let him off the hook for his lies, which the left-wing corporate media has been doing for years now. The same media that peeled Presidents George Bush and Donald Trump and canonized the sainted Barack Obama for everything have forgiven China Joe for all his sins.
They forgave Biden for the lie about the “drunken” truck driver that hit his family. (The driver was not drunk). And graduating at the top of his class (another lie) and the whopper about being arrested while trying to see Nelson Mandella. And the lies about his sons Beau and Hunter. And the one about how he drove an 18-wheeler. He didn’t.
And it wasn’t only the lie about Mandella—it continued in many forms. From his epic battles with the notorious neighborhood bully “Corn Pop,” to his epic claim he was “raised in the Puerto Rican community.”
But now as the walls close in on Biden for taking millions upon millions of dollars from China, Ukraine and other snaky foreign sources, Joe’s media friends are beginning to edge away.
The Democrat Washington Media Complex, of which Tapper is a charter member, has been covering for Joe Biden for years and years. Otherwise, how could an infamous plagiarist continue on in politics for half a century?
And so, the Delaware Way becomes the Chicago Way becomes the American Way. And now the Democrat Media Complex gets ready to jump ship, like rats. What will they do if they can no longer control the Biden decay?
What kind of man lies about a little kitchen fire to impress real victims who have lost their children and everything else?
Where are the millions and millions that Biden has stolen? His mansion in Greenville, his home in Rehoboth? Surely, there has been some private investigation into his spending on real estate
(transactions and the value of the purchase are public record), his lifestyle, etc.? We know how the Obamas and Clinton acquired their millions - phony book deals, outrageous speaking fees, "charitable contributions" to do-little foundations. Why can't Biden's corruption and grift be pinned down? Somewhere there has to be evidence that he could not have accumulated all his assets just on his public salaries.
It went up his and hunters nose
I mean you've been given 3 years of articles regarding the millions from his CelticCorp unexplained from book deals or speaking engagements. Roughly 4 million nobody can figure out where it came from.
Speculation or “regarding this money in your accounts; you didn’t report it as income to IRS?” Other pols, say Obama, may get $500,000 to speak to a group of bankers who want to bask in his brilliance, but if he reports it as income and pays his “fair share” of taxes, then he hasn’t done anything illegal. Half the country is not going to believe any of the charges against Biden until the DNC media (that is, almost all media) acknowledges his wrong doing.
It was a disperse entry from his s corp to his personal account retard. He didn't have to report where the S Corp got the money. Joe claims it was from book deals and speaking but people have added up the numbers even at generous assumptions and it is 4 mil short.
All net profits from S corp pass thru to shareholders. So did Biden pay tax or not? You and I know he's head of a crime family but what illegal act can be proved in a court of law? The S corp can claim it found the money in a trash bag on Joe's lawn, but if he declared it and no one could prove it came from a bank robbery or other crime then.....
The issue with Biden is that he not only had a phony book deal, he got a prosecutor in Ukraine that was investigating his son's benefactor fired while he was sitting vice president.
Someone, such as the House commmittee, would have to go beyond political posturing and do some very hard and tedious forensic accounting work.
Where are the millions and millions that Biden has stolen?
You have to actually have someone investigate to get the answer to that question.
So, basically, you want to help the Democratic National Committee throw Biden under the bus in their desperate attempt to replace him with ANY marginally marketable alternative. Unfortunately, it’s no longer socially acceptable to refer to “tar babies” since Uncle Remus has become a symbol of racism nearly as atrocious as Aunt Jemima and Uncle Tom, but if it were still socially acceptable, the Big Guy would certainly qualify as a political liability that Democrats are finding increasingly difficult to get themselves unstuck from.
What are union dues for if not for covering members during a strike, oh wait political contributions. Now I see how it works.
Once again, tech companies can't win.
Tech companies never seem to catch a break. /FOE Voice
Are you fucking kidding me? Unemployment benefits for striking unions? They are supposed to reserve strike funds for that exact purpose.
The only way to break the stranglehold the unions have on the state is for the courts to find that the public unions are a conflict of interest and ban them like they should have in the first place. The employees elect the management. It is unforgivable.
I have an idea! Let's take away the main downside for striking workers, and assume this wont encourage them to just strike for eternity because why the fuck not?
"While our enclaves seem more polarized than ever online, in these United States we may actually be more and more intermixed, more and more differently human together, than we've been led to believe. Transplaining.
https://nypost.com/2023/08/23/forget-mansplaining-transplaining-is-the-woke-way-for-men-to-talk-down-to-women/
Suddenly, mansplaining is a good thing.
Or so I can only conclude after watching Sophia Lorey, a 23-year-old former college soccer player leading a talk on defending “the original intent of Title IX.”
Before she’s even through her preamble, Lorey is shouted down by two men and booted from a California library for having the gall to acknowledge in front of the “we believe in science” fan club the fact that biological males are now playing women’s sports.
The talk, Lorey said, was going to explore the “physiological advantage of male athletes,” and the “emotional and psychological impact on girls when men play on their sports teams” noting girls’ dreams of playing college athletics is in peril, “as long as men are allowed to compete in womens sports.”
Lorey, who played college ball at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, Calif., was drowned out by a dude’s voice, shouting, “Are you going to misgender people throughout the entire [talk]?”
A second one says, “We don’t want any transgender females called males.” And the male librarian shuts her down, saying misgendering is against their policy.
Not only were these two men espousing their rejection of biological reality. They were, as the left is fond of saying, simply, “mansplaining”: Commandeering a conversation from a female intimately acquainted with her subject matter.
The hypocrisy is chilling, as men who claim to be women preach to us about periods, win “women of the year” awards and Lia Thomas, who was able to swim on the UPenn women’s team about five minutes after declaring himself female, lectured us the concept of feminism.
All these dudes have to do is self-identify as ladies – or play along with all of these new gender identities. Just like that, magically, they’re not mansplainers, they’re unimpeachable rulers of the universe encouraged to tell us chicks, how it is.
And we’re just supposed to sit back and enjoy being transplained to.
And we’re just supposed to sit back and enjoy being transplained to.
Unless you want me to pick up a pool cue and crack someone's skull for shouting down Sophia Lorey, the best I can do is a hearty "I'm sorry your little equality game didn't turn out quite the way you had hoped."
- train stars picking up steam -
Step 1: "Women deserve equal rights"
Step 2: "Women should be able to do the kinds of job men do"
Step 3: "Women should get equal funding from the govt for their sports and scholarships, because its not fair to give it all to men"
Step 4: "We need to have affirmative action for women to make up for male-dominated fields so the number of workers in a field is even (only for fields that are attractive, not the icky ones)
- train starts going off tracks -
Step 5: "Women and men are the same and have the same capabilities as men in all things, therefore should never be treated different, ever, regardless of gender"
Step 6: "It's sexist to say that one gender has advantages in certain areas over another"
- train derails, catches fire -
Step 7: "Anyone who says they are a woman, is a woman, full stop"
Step 8: "If a boy likes pink or a girl likes skateboarding, we no longer consider this to be normal, we must now treat them as the opposite gender, and must accept and facilitate their gender transition"
Step 9: [large mannish 'woman' with adams apple and bolt on tits transplains to small actual woman] - "Listen Jennifer, your bigoted complaints about Jax being the number one spot on the girls (insert-sport) team and dominating everyone are problematic. Also, if you have a problem with her big swinging dick hitting you in the face when you bend down to pick up something from the locker room floor, then perhaps you need some further education? It would be a shame if we have to take your scholarship and spot on the team away..."
#equalityacheived
Leftist government wanting to give unions unfair advantage, whoda thunk it?
Under existing California law, people are ineligible for unemployment benefits if they voluntarily left a job because of a trade dispute and remain ineligible for the duration of the strike.
Unemployment eligibility generally rests on three conditions: the individual claiming benefits lost their job without cause, the individual claiming benefits is available for work, and the individual claiming benefits is actively seeking work. A union member who willingly walks away from a job, is not looking for another job, and spends the day walking around with a placard (or not), is not unemployed.
Why would the state care? The rules are for little people who don't have collective bargaining agreements.
Union members already regularly defraud the UI system by claiming layoff when they take vacations. When I worked for a union shop, I had to explain to my payroll person that if she responded to the UI letters, she would have a mutiny on her hands.
"Search and social platforms linking to news was anticompetitive. Now, they say that not linking to news is anticompetitive."
We're at war with Eastasia. We've always been at war with Eastasia. They find the public's lack of faith in legacy media disturbing. The loss of trust in democratic institutions is a major threat to their democracy - I wonder whatever could possibly have caused that!
"Striking workers would be eligible to collect unemployment payments after two weeks."
I wonder if public employees who strike against the California Government will also be eligible for "unemployment benefits" from California Government when negotiations fail? Naw, that could NEVER happen!
Wait for it. That's something I'd expect Illinois to tell California to "hold my beer" on.
Public sector unions don't strike against the government, they strike against the people.
If an employee union at GM or Ford or Buzzfeed strikes, I can go elsewhere. If a public sector transit or garbage union strikes, I'm stuck without mass transit or garbage pickup, I can't go "elsewhere".
Odd.
I never take public transit.
Garbage is handled by private contractors in most places.
So I usually don't care. I suspect most Americans don't.
So public sector unions, who strike not against their management, but the people they serve, and are at least supposed to get benefits from the Union via the dues that they pay, will now be eligible for infinite unemployment benefits, paid for by the very people they're striking against.
If Mainline LIbertarianism Plus doesn't come out strongly against an across-the-board ban on public sector unions, it has failed.
Even if "libertarianism" DOES come out strongly against public sector unions it has still failed. Or was that actually not a typo and you think libertarians should be against a BAN on public sector unions?
Public sector unions should be banned and Libertarianism should support such a ban.
Fucking unions. That is all.
Oh wait. Polarization in the last bullet. I don't think we are more polarized than every before, I think we just got to the cultural stage where any sort of political disagreement is socially unacceptable.
At one extreme you have places like California where I live, which is so heavily tilted that everyone just assumes everyone around them believes in exactly the same stuff, but in truth everyone just keeps quiet to avoid the inevitable noisy confrontation. It's worse in places like LA and San Francisco. You get much the same in heavily red states like Texas. How many liberals and moderates there (outside of Ausin) just choose to keep their mouths shut rather than express an opinion.
But in the middle you still have the 49% keeping shut because the 51% will scream at them otherwise.
It's not polarization but intolerance of other opinions. As a libertarian I'm an outsider who disagrees with both Red and Blue, so perhaps I see this more clearly. When I am in deep blue San Fransisco I keep shut about my opinion every bit as much as when I am in deep red Bakersfield. Ditto for when I am in southern Oregon vs Eugene or Portland. When someone does dare to speak an opinion that is not majority approved, it's always in hushed whispers.
It was not this way when I was a kid. Was not this way as a young adult. It's only been this way since "political correctness" shit started. (See the other Reason article on PCU). So it's not just social media doing it, but perhaps this grossly illiberal idea that opinions must be approved by the masses.
You get much the same in heavily red states like Texas. How many liberals and moderates there (outside of Ausin) just choose to keep their mouths shut rather than express an opinion.
Please. Texas has some of the most shitlibby cities in the country, it's just that they're counterbalanced by a lot of people living in the exurbs and hinterlands that still have viable industries in agriculture and oil extraction. Austin being a colony of California doesn't mean that the Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, or the college towns are any less indigo blue.
^this. Beto O’rourke lost by what like 1-2% in Texas. CA senators just run against other democrats, its not a competition, and the winner blows out the loser by like 10%.
The above rant is just evidence that the empty ‘boaf sides’ talk is just that, and Brandy doesn’t actually know shit about Texas.
Fact is, CA has all of the racial and gender diversity one could possibly imagine, while having diversity of thought similar to the Borg...assuming "the red states just do the same thing in reverse" is lazy boaf sidesism
You've said you knew me when I lived in the Bay Area. I had the same experiences.
People would talk to me because they knew I had once run for office as a Libertarian. For example, I had a co-worker who would only talk about his conservative views with the office door closed. And he wasn't extreme whatsoever in his views.
Now, I've moved out of California to a red state. My experience is that it is actually a purple state where liberals/progressives are open about their views if they live in a city, but you wouldn't want to try that in a small town.
People in California were friendlier and more welcoming of diversity. People in my new home state tend to be superficially friendly but only want to have real associations with their family and fellow church members.
People in California were friendlier and more welcoming of diversity. People in my new home state tend to be superficially friendly but only want to have real associations with their family and fellow church members.
You should probably go back to California, then, seeing as how you have no real clue how small-town culture survivies through the very social conformity and familiarity that you lament.
People in my new home state tend to be superficially friendly but only want to have real associations with their family and fellow church members.
Sealioning. Poor Mike is just being reasonable and those Red people he just painted with a brush the size of a state are the prejudiced ones.
He’s probably too obtuse to realize that those people being “superficially friendly” find him to be a weirdo that they’d rather not associate with. The real nut of it is that asshole Californians like him moving out to Meridian is what caused the population to skyrocket almost 100K people in 20 years and the cost of living to go up right along with it.
Fucking bullshit. How many riots has LA had retard? How many race based?
Just amazing watching how freely you lie. Meanwhile we have actual surveys of NE to SE transplant minorities who say they experience less racism in the south.
Fuck off with your constant lies Mike.
Mike Liarson is a bigot.
If Republicans are to have a chance in the 2024 election cycle the candidate to give them that chance will likely be on the stage tonight. If all the Republican base want to do in 2024 is give the country the finger, they can vote Trump. If they want change it one of the people on the stage tonight. I will be watching and I hope I am not alone.
"is give the country the finger"
M4ever gives away who he thinks the "country" is, and it doesn't include the deplorables.
My takeaway as well. He and the normal lefty crew here often let the masks slip with these kind of comments.
Apparently to him, the elite democrat establishment = "the country"
Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the Trump mantra that the Democrats and Republican are elites and that they are turning their backs on both. I don't see a positive message from Trump, just let me run the country and you will get your revenge.
If I am wrong, what is Trumps positive message for the country? In the 4 years of his Presidency, I don't remember one.
"I don’t see a positive message from Trump, just let me run the country and you will get your revenge."
"I don’t see a positive message from Trump, now let me hand you this strawman."
But seriously, revenge isn't a bad idea over the rioting, sex cult indoctrination, censorship and the catastrophic, economy-destroying Covid nonsense you people have put us through, Jeff.
"In the 4 years of his Presidency, I don’t remember one."
This is how I know you're a shill.
In just four years Trump renegotiated a better NAFTA, had rapproachment with North Korea, started prison reform with the First Step Act, arranged peace between the Arabs and the Jews, and between Serbia and Kosovo, stopped his generals and the neocons from attacking Iran, negotiated a withdrawal from Afghanistan (which Biden promptly fucked up), and did it all while fighting a phony, corrupt impeachment over calling for an investigation into real corruption Biden had actually done.
But your whinging about "positive messaging". Fuck you. Who gives a shit about tone and messaging? Messaging doesn't fucking matter one iota.
Biden has all sorts of lovely messaging while his Nazi administration lies and censors and funds wars and is utterly fucking corrupt.
Fuck messaging.
Yes, it is a long standing communist principle that "the people" only includes those who are pro communism.
If you are not, you are an "enemy of the people".

"...This week, one of the bill's authors—state Sen. Anthony Portantino (D–25th district)—completely amended it, striking the previous text related to inmate visitation entirely. S.B. 799 now deals solely with unemployment compensation for workers in labor disputes..."
Taking lessons from turd, I see. Simply lie about everything.
New Big Man on GOP Campus:
He called Trump “a grifter.” He called him “an ugly, divisive, horrible figure.” And the fact that he’s slated to be a no-show at Wednesday’s first debate in Milwaukee? “He’s scared of me,” Christie told the crowd of area business and political leaders as well as the bank of cameras in the back.
.
“We cannot allow Donald Trump to be the Republican nominee,” Christie said, “and the reason we can’t is not only because he’ll lose to Joe Biden — although that’s the first reason. But the second reason is he let us down.” Trump said he was going to repeal the Affordable Care Act, Christie said, and he couldn’t do it with a Republican Congress. “And you want to know why in the end we lost by one vote? One vote. Whose vote was it? John McCain. John McCain’s. And why didn’t John McCain vote that way? Because Donald Trump from 2015 forward insulted John McCain every chance he had. Said he wasn’t a war hero. Insulted his time when he ran for president. Insulted his service in the Senate. Went to Arizona and said, ‘Anybody who’s a McCain person can’t be with me.’ His own selfishness and self-centeredness cost us a replacement of Obamacare.”
.
And Trump said he was going to tighten up the national debt, Christie said, and he didn’t. “He added $6 trillion to the national debt — $6 trillion in four years. He ran up more debt in one term than any president in American history.

lol the Monster Who Ate New Jersey
turd lies when he knows he’s lying. turd lies when we know he’s lying. turd lies when he knows that we know he’s lying.
turd lies. turd is a TDS-addled lying pile of lefty shit and a pederast besides.
You mean Chris "Bridgegate" Christie? He can go back to the buffet table with JB Pritzker.
Buttplug is a big fan of the GOPe.
"“And you want to know why in the end we lost by one vote? One vote. Whose vote was it? John McCain. John McCain’s. And why didn’t John McCain vote that way? Because Donald Trump from 2015 forward insulted John McCain every chance he had."
This says everything you need to know about John McCain (and Chris Christie).
Why did he fuck everything up for America? Because Trump was a meanie. And Christie thinks that's a legit reason.
What pieces of shit they are.
That is a very great point!
It was McCain's selfishness and self-centeredness that did that.
The mark of a good leader is knowing how to sway people toward a desired goal. The mark of a poor leader is prioritizing the defense of their ego over the original goal.
Christie speaks some truth about Trump. Dillinger calls Christie fat.
no, I called him the Monster Who Ate New Jersey because he's cartoonishly fat. he's also an embarrassment to men in general. and politicians in general too if that's even possible.
Oh, I see. I stand ... corrected?
I could have bothered about "Christie speaks some truth about Trump" but didn't feel like correcting it
Or you copped out.
see I'm not really here to argue because it's not 2003. I enjoy responding to you but we're not ever debating
Laursen White Knights Pluggo. Tell me, how do you feel about white knighting a pedo?
Woke and virtuous, as usual.
Big Surprise: Creep Who Killed Lauri Carleton Over Rainbow Flag Was 'Pro Life' 'Christian' Gay-Hater
.
The late creep’s pinned tweet, a fake photo of a rainbow flag in flames, was pretty typical of the account’s content. And pretty typical of a lot of hateful content all over X/Twitter. See how he added “P” for “pedophile” to “LGBTQ,” wasn’t that a fun joke?
Typical MAGA asshole.

listen, they aren't pedophiles, they just want to teach kindergarteners about gay oral sex.
I dont get what all the fuss is about either buttplug
I will quote from the article.

By that "logic" (if you could call it that), Patrice Cullors, Nikole Hannah-Jones, and Charles M. Blow would be at fault for riots in Minneapolis, Portland, and Kenosha.
Eh, if you don't want to be called groomers, stop grooming kids.
Lol, Wonkette. Are you her only reader left?
Anyway...
"In addition to those conspiracy obsessions, Ikeguchi was also a fan of antisemitic rants against George Soros"
Now we know what got Pluggo so hot and bothered. He mocked the boss.
Of course that's anti-Semitic somehow, even though old George said he doesn't identify as Jewish.
You should donate. Atone for your sins.
It's not too late.
turd, the ass-clown of the commentariat, lies; it’s all he ever does. turd is a kiddie diddler, and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.
If anything he posts isn’t a lie, it’s totally accidental.
turd lies; it’s what he does. turd is a TDSS-addled lying pile of lefty shit.
LOL, your allies in blue cities are suffering enough.
How about no, you sick fucking retarded pedophile.
And you know is a literal nazi
" See how he added “P” for “pedophile” to “LGBTQ,” wasn’t that a fun joke?"
Well, he was only a little wrong. He was supposed to add a "M" if he wanted to include pedophiles (MAPS).
Pluggo's super particular about his pronouns.
I always thought Pluggo's pronouns were: dip/shit and ass/hole.
wonkette is a DC socialite whore who got famous for blogging about getting buttfucked by congressman. So take what she says with a grain of salt

Christ, it's incredible that this parasite had a career of over 50 years in the government's health departments. He's one of the most bobble-headed "scientists" I've ever seen.
Tell me again why this man is still out and running around freely? He should've been tried and convicted of his crimes long ago, and rotting away (if still alive) in some deep, dark, dank dungeon of a prison.
“One of the purposes, if you don’t have a vaccine, it’s to get more ventilators,
This is Fauci. They know ventilators killed people and here he is hocking them again.
So strikers will get tax money AND their strike benefits from the union?
Why not just send the money directly to the democrats?
"Why not just send the money directly to the democrats?"
They are keeping the tiniest of fig leafs that they aren't just paying off their own cronies and supporters.
You can only wear a tiny fig leaf off your genitalia is also tiny. Seems appropriate.
when does the piece drop about how many children are still missing?
Too sad. Plus they might have to explain how the government limited the water even after they left the power on for the pumps which sparked more fires. No republicans in Hawaii to blame it all on for lax regulations.
"No republicans in Hawaii to blame it all on for lax regulations."
Imagine that. A deep blue state that voted 2:1 for Biden, with democrats running the show.
And somehow, magically, the MSM is all out of those "worst disaster ever" and "presidential failure of leadership" articles.
Guess they used them all up on Bush and Trump. Shucks, I am sure that's what it is. Otherwise the silence would be proof of a pretty deep rot in the MSM
I see no death tolls in the corner of televisions
"...The legacy media, which promoted this without the slightest bit of critical analysis..."
IOWs, the media treated it the way they teat most "news" stories.

for liability purposes it was the ground that killed him.
He did pretty well. Would've estimated his life expectancy right after the mutiny at less than a week.
Holy shit! That is hilarious. They were reporting he was in Africa just yesterday.
Of course it did. Otherwise it would be obvious the body had been on ice for weeks.
I had poison in the dead pool. Fuck!
You could be right, but we'll never know now.
I had my money on polonium. I bet you anything Putin was in both of our betting pools. That cheating snake.

Russian authorities are "investigating" the cause.
That reads almost like "mainstream media outlets investigate Biden corruption"
"Texas's overlapping abortion bans and draconian penalties for physicians—including life in prison, $100,000 fines and loss of medical licenses—were creating life-threatening delays in care for women with complicated pregnancies," reports NPR.
doubt. You had me at NPR
^^
It boggles the mind why a striking worker should be eligible for unemployment insurance but if I just decide not to come to work for a few weeks I don't.
If the employer hasn't "locked out" union members, any union member is free to cross the picket line and go to work along with the "scabs" and management who are now doing the strikers' work.
The decision not to cross the picket line is a personal decision no different than if I decide not to come to work because my neighbor disapproves of me doing so and therefore may think poorly of me for doing so.
From nrtw.org:
"Question: What if I want to work during a strike?
Answer: If you want to work during a strike you must be certain that you are not a union member if you wish to avoid union discipline.
Many courts have held that unions have the power to discipline their members. This discipline can include imposing a significant fine upon and then suing you to enforce the payment of the fine. If you wish to avoid consequences like that, you cannot remain a member of the union and cross the picket line."
Just let it burn.
We don't need no water; let the motherfucker burn.
Burn, motherfucker, burn.
Get paid for deciding not to work. That should solve all employment problems!
