Brickbat: Purged

Thousands of messages were deleted from the phones of then-Seattle mayor Jenny Durkan and other city officials during protests in that city in 2020 following the death of George Floyd. Now, city officials have agreed to pay $2.3 million to settle a lawsuit brought by two whistleblowers who helped reveal those missing texts. City records officers Stacy Irwin and Kimberly Ferreiro said they were asked to perform illegal acts, subjected to abuse when they complained about how public records were being treated and ultimately forced to resign. In addition to the $2.3 million, the city spent nearly $800,000 fighting the case before deciding to settle.

One person, Jenny Derkan, breaks the law. Does something bad.The taxpayers cough up 3 million.
Yeah, that'll teach the mayor a lesson!
This one's a pretty good brickbat.
I’m making $90 an hour working from home. i was greatly surprised at the same time as my neighbour advised me she changed into averaging $100 however I see the way it works now. I experience mass freedom now that I’m my non-public boss.Everybody must try this job now by just using this website...

Not just one person: "Jenny Durkan and other city officials..."
This could be prosecuted as a conspiracy involving the Mayor, city council, and high-ranking bureaucrats - if the prosecutor wanted to prosecute members of the same political faction.
So what are the conspiracy theorists alleging that these missing texts would reveal? The ABC article linked in the Brickbat doesn't say.
I've no idea and it doesn't matter. They broke the laws and conspired to break the laws regarding retention of public records and apparently punished whistleblowers. I can say that such activities tend to carry the stench of a coverup of something the participants fear having made public, and probably warrants further investigation.
Yoga routines and Chelsea's wedding plans.
This article is pretty disappointing too. The writer names one name: Jenny Durkan before switching to the passive voice and going all vague on us. Her messages were deleted illegally by someone, ordered illegally by someone. And the messages of other city officials were deleted by someone illegally. And city officials have agreed to settle the case. Someone subjected the whistle-blowers to presumably illegal abuse. My high school English teacher would be scandalized to learn that cities can spend money and settle lawsuits, but apparently modern journalists like Charles Oliver did not have to pass high school English. So here's a lesson for would-be hard-hitting journalists: one of the reasons "cities" seem to get away with murder and other crimes at an alarming rate is that "cities" don't commit murders against people who resist arrest; "cities" don't illegally delete public records and they don't spend tax money to fight or settle lawsuits or abuse city employees. Some official person or persons did all of those things and we should expect that those individual officials who acted alone or as part of a conspiracy should be investigated, charged, tried and punished for their crimes. If investigative journalists don't name names then they're not investigative journalists at all, they're just the equivalent of tell-all celebrity scandal-mongers and the culprits will continue to get off based on official immunity.
If guns can commit “gun violence”, then “cities" can delete texts.
Right! And Fentanyl broke into my house while I was sleeping and forced itself into my mouth causing an overdose!
Make the Seattle story one of the main articles; put the food-truck stuff in the Brickbats.
This.
I have to admit I’m feeling disappointed with Reason lately. Compared to just a few years ago, it feels like they’ve gone pretty soft. It pains me to say that, too. I was never one to side with the commenters who derided the staff as wanting to be accepted at DC cocktail parties.
So Reason is soft now compared to what? Rolling Stone? Neues Deutschland no longer inspires anarchist infiltrators and Antifa intellectuals. National Lampoon morphed into SNL. Reason is sooo far closer to Galt's Gulch than anything out there it's unfunny. The looter press, which evidently engulfed Rolling Stone, is swirling into the toilet-flush of Christian National and Sino-Socialist collectivism Reason resists. Back when we had a Libertarian Party the rest of the world worried about being dragged AWAY from Left&Right mystical kleptocracy.
True, but many of their articles lately are still disappointing. Although I'm glad there is still a source of news that is resisting, I could wish for more "smoking gun" analysis.
Here, here!
Let's do some real investigative reporting here. Maybe throw some cash at Rommelman and see if she can't turn up some actual facts.
You don't do all that because there *isn't* a cover-up. Someone needs to report what that cover-up is about.
And nothing else happened.
Nothing else like the state police looking in to destruction of public records. And then there is the "why" behind that destruction. Normally one does that as cover for other crimes.
You would think that there would be a law enforce entity that is dedicated to preventing such corruption and exposing and prosecuting it when it happens.
Ha , ha, ha, good one. Oh, you're serious?

Comedy of the commons.
Im making over $13k a month working part time. I kept hearing other people tell me how much money they can make online so I decided to look into it. Yet another example why children shouldn't have cell phones.
Floyd was originally suspected of passing poorly-faked dollars. So there is something karmic about Kanye et alii being sued for dyssembling with poorly-faked news to cover up the murder-by-lawmen.
Seems like an open and shut case unless the government can prove they received zero texts for 2 years, i.e. that explains why no texts exist, locally or on the cloud. Forensics would indicate up to 27000 texts would have been received over the two years and certainly they can find witnesses who 'texted' to the now empty phones. Five years is the max and it's too little for this type of conduct.

Insufficient! The city officials in charge who gave the orders should be ordered to pay all penalties instead of passing it on to the taxpayer.
^He says Reason Magazine tastes great because of all the Desantis hit pieces but *I* like Reason Magazine because all the Natcon, Con-Prog, Christian Nationalist, Pro-Trans pieces don't fill me up like the next leading Free-Minds-Free-Markets magazine. One thing I think we can both agree on is that the anemic near-lack of criticism of the COVID coverups and FBI/DNC collusion coverups and other coverups from the national down to the local level really makes Reason the champagne of libertarian journalism.
Hey R Mac Who Talks and Snorts Smack! We're not all omniscient like you are! Has it ever occurred to Your Perfect Omniscient Ass that sometimes WE JUST DON'T KNOW? For all of the $0.00 that you're paying the Reason writers, you're sadly disappointed? Why don't YOU get off of Your Omniscient but LAZY nit-picking ass, and go FIND all of those missing messages, and tell us what all of the messages say? I bet that there's a Pulitzer Prize or two that awaits ye! After that, please do for us, a detailed investigation about the exact, provable origins of the Universe, Oh Omniscient One!
Is Plucky Squirrel under the impression that an NSDAP infiltrator can handle long division? So whutabout the tensor calculus in non-Aryan gravitation theories?
In non-Aryan gravitation theories, R Mac Who Talks and Snorts Smack has ZERO gravitas! Its ass might actually have NEGATIVE gravitas, which is supposed to be impossible, even when using tensor calculus!
It is near certain that most normal people live in some sort of De Sitter space. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Sitter_space …
R Mac Who Talks and Snorts Smack, however, apparently lives in some sort of incomprehensible De Shitter space! NO ONE has EVER returned to normal De Sitter space from there, so BEWARE!!!
(The Klingons, on their StarShit Enter-Thighs, are circling Uranus right now, trying to finger it out, so there MIGHT still be some hope left, for R Mac Who Talks and Snorts Smack!)
Rommelman shows up once in awhile ... like Oktoberfest
