Brickbat: Dodge This!

An employee at Carriage Hills Elementary School in Lawton, Oklahoma, has been charged with assault and battery for hitting a student with a dodgeball. The employee, who wasn't named by media, hit the student three times with the ball, including once on the face. The employee told police the student threw the ball at him and another employee, so he threw the ball at the student. The student claimed the ball bounced off another student and hit the employee.

It sounds like he gave the kid a teachable moment.
The student claimed the ball bounced off another student and hit the employee.
The kid knew his geometry better than the teacher.
Could have been worse - he could have thrown a wrench at the kid.
Snitches get stiches.
FAFO.
Missed the craziest part of the story .... "The employee was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault and battery".
The correct outcome for hitting someone in the face with a dodgeball is sitting out until the next round, not getting fired. Everyone knows that. At least is was probably one of those sorry squishy foam things you can’t really get moving at a good speed. When I was a kid, after I had walked uphill in the snow to school, our dodgeballs were smaller versions of those red rubber kickballs. I can still hear the “poing” they make when they catch somebody in the middle of the back.
Police interviewed the employee, who said he was sitting in the class when the student threw the ball at him and another teacher and wouldn’t apologize for it.
Sounds like it may’ve even been thrown from a sitting position.
When I was a kid, I and a fellow classmate on the opposite team would’ve totally lined it up so that a ball thrown at the opposing classmate would be easily dodged and creamed the unsuspecting bystander.
Of course, we would’ve also accepted getting thumped with the dodgeball in turn, apologized and made amends if anything got broken or damaged, and told the principal nothing happened if there were any questions.
The whole, "It bounced off another kid." is weak sauce.
>>and wouldn’t apologize for it.
definitely a reason to go full-generational authoritarian on him
When talking with police, the student said they threw the dodgeball while playing a game and it bounced off another student and hit the employee.
I'll take the dodgeball authoritarians over "Good shoot. No apologies." civil servants any day.
>>I can still hear the “poing”
a broken leg incident right in front of me in dodgeball still rings in my ears lol
Holy Crap! Did you grow up playing dodgeball with Aroldis Chapman?
the kid made it to AA Bowie, so almost
Should've gotten the parents' consent before throwing his balls at the student's face. Don't say duck.
Was the kid knocked off their feet? If not then this is a gross over reaction.
And yet if the employee simply raped the student they would still have their job.
That probably depends on the relative skin colors and gender identities of all involved.
And the actual genetalia.
I thought dodgeball was illegal.
So a kid having bad reflexes is somehow the teacher's fault?
duck! what gender did the teacher identify as?
Everyone in the story is identified in news reports as they so I'm assuming non-binary.
The parents were so emboldened by the arrest and their entitlement that they announced their kid is transitioning.
It's literally called dodge-ball. Fail to dodge, you get hit by the ball. What's the issue?
Hint: there's a ball flying at your head. What do you do? Remove your head from the path of the ball.
Those are literally the rules of dodge-ball. Next question.
Another rule was "Aim below the neck".
