Brickbat: Which One Goes Where?
A new waste collection law set to be introduced by the British government could require households to have up to seven different bins for waste and recycling. The law would require local councils to collect food waste weekly and to collect garden waste. They are already required to collect separately glass, metal, plastic, and paper and cardboard for recycling. They must collect everything else as general household waste.

Voting libertarian is the least costly and least violent method of maneuvering BOTH halves of the looter Kleptocracy into repealing moronic masquerades.
“how do we KEEP them thar waste products in thar”
The Coen Brothers figured that out a long time ago. Woodchipper first.
I’m sure they have the best of intentions.

The most serious threat posed is that the U.S. and Russia would find themselves in an escalatory spiral leading to a nuclear exchange.
I’m not.
I don’t really care if the Brits are required to sort their garbage into 25 different cans, or if there is a criminal (or capital) penalty for making a mistake which bin they used. They voted for the damn government they’ve got – the need to get that good government, good and hard!

Yeah, well, we all know where the road paved with those leads.
And you thought “Four legs good, two legs better!” was silly hyperbole and not really something that could actually happen.

Former Clinton Labor Secretary Robert Reich responded to the news that Elon Musk was purchasing Twitter by declaring that preserving free speech online was “Musk’s dream. And Trump’s. And Putin’s. And the dream of every dictator, strongman, demagogue, and modern-day robber baron on Earth. For the rest of us, it would be a brave new nightmare.” According to Reich, censorship is “necessary to protect American democracy.”

It makes it a lot easier to win every debate when they stop hiding it.
I would not have thought Reich would embrace “freedom is slavery” so directly.
Nah, “The Fourth” Reich is more of an “Arbeit Macht Frei” kinda guy.
Listening to Robert Reich is a little like playing with a Jack-in-the-box. You know the crazy is going to pop out at some point, but you never know exactly when.
‘According to Reich, censorship is “necessary to protect American democracy.”
He’s not the only one:
“It may be possible, that if you can take off the tinfoil hat, that there’s not a vast conspiracy. Or that ordinary folks and national security agencies responsible for our security are trying their best to find a way to make sure that our online discourse doesn’t get people hurt or see our democracy undermined,” Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas)
It may be possible, that if you can educate yourself, that most don’t believe there is a vast conspiracy. Or that ordinary folks and national security agencies responsible for our security actually realize that what they’re enforcing is Stalinist policies pushed by authoritarian politicians to make sure that our online discourse doesn’t pull back the curtain and see how our “democracy” works.
— ![Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas)] Ironic bit of nominative determinism there but to prove I don’t have conspiratorial tendencies it could easily just be an aptronym.

It doesn’t matter how many bins you use and how much you separate your trash, there’s only one garbage truck. It all gets dumped in together and taken to the same landfill.
Where I live there are three separate trucks.
That take it all to the same landfill. But still… each bin load rides in a color coordinated truck!
It’s all about the show, not the go. Consider it scatological porn.
It’s different now that China doesn’t accept foreign waste, but for about a decade here all the recycling container waste was cubed then shipped overseas. All of it.
So we carefully separated out, only put this in the blue bin, that in the grey, etc, then when China stopped taking the waste they didn’t even cube it. They just landfilled it because there was no place arranged to put it.
Green waste here is shredded and made into compost gardeners can use, but the blue bin was, literally, just trash taken to the dump on a different truck than the grey bin’s trash.
It matters a lot. A few years ago, everyone on our block dumped garbage bags (and big shit too) into three or four dumpsters in each alley. Those dumpsters were certainly foul. But now every house has three plastic bins out in the alley on garbage day. Those bins end up being littered all over the alley during the week. Big shit now gets taken once a month but half the neighbors have no clue which week so they just dump some table/chair/ etc which attracts the homeless and hoarders. And different neighbors really demonstrate their assholitude re those bins. All over garbage.
Sounds like someone is deep in the pocket of Big Bin.
^Looks like a good time to get in to the bin making business.
Your subtly racist, subtly sexist, euphemistically British slights of Lori Lightfoot are soon to be out of date.
What is the carbon footprint of manufacturing all those bins?
I assume they will be plastic?
Not to mention that’s a lot more lorries traveling around. So larger carbon footprint to keep them on the road and to manufacture extras to collect all these new bins.
Years ago, the UK locations of the company I worked for confiscated all the office trash cans. Cuz that makes trash go away, right?
No doubt.
My company kicked off a ‘recycling’ program with lots of banners and posters, and cute little bins at each desk for letter size paper.
However, working a bit late one night, I saw the cleaning crew going around with a single trash can, dumping everything into the one container.
I noticed most of the “green” initiatives involved saving money for the company, not saving the planet.
How long until the expose showing all the carefully separated waste being dumped back together again because there’s no cost-effective market for the things they are sorting out?
We’ve already seen that in multiple communities throughout the US. It is a pity that humans have apparently lost the ability to learn from the mistakes of others…
“what could possibly go wrong?”
Food waste and garden waste are stupid since there’s a giant overlap of items that can easily be composted – like for the garden if it bears any relation to WW2 era victory gardens. Today garden waste may mean just the grease that’s dripped off the grill in the yard in which case it should go with the ‘food waste’ that includes fats and rotting meat folks toss. Likewise if the ‘food waste’ is a bit of turned salad greens, it belongs in the compost, not the ‘food waste’ bin.
Oh right, sorry. We’re talking about people with the IQ of a hard shell clam. You decide whether it’s the citizenry, the politicians, or both.
Christian National Socialist Germany had exactly that law in 1938.
After leaving my previous job 12 months ago, i’ve had some good luck to learn about this website which was a life-saver for me… They offer jobs for which people can work online from their house. My latest paycheck after working for them for 4 months was for $4500… Amazing thing about is that the only thing required is simple typing skills and access to internet…
