Brickbat: A Valuable Lesson

The Chicago Board of Ethics, the city inspector general, and the Chicago Public Schools inspector general are investigating after Mayor Lori Lightfoot's re-election campaign sent an email to teachers asking them to get their students to volunteer for Lightfoot's campaign. The letter suggested teachers should offer students class credit to get them to volunteer. Chicago's mayor appoints the city's school superintendent, as well as members of the Board of Education. In a statement, the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois said that the campaign's letter could also violate federal law.

This is common practice. Just not with school kids. A lot of campaigns use college student volunteers to run booths and stuff. Which is weird because those who volunteer tend to be poly-sci majors needing the units and stuff. And they tend to be far left proggies. So when you see them manning Republican booths it's fucking weird. Are these candidates tone deaf? Thankfully it tends to be the richer candidates and bigger races with the financial backing who do this, the grassroots guys still go in for campaign volunteers not paid colleges students. I remember one year I was next to a booth for a governor candidate and the worker was telling everyone about how great socialism was. Literally. Candidate didn't give a shit, s/he only wanted warm bodies to pass out literature and cheer when s/he walked by.

God knows what the Democrats do.

But you can't use public schools and schoolkids for this. They are underage and the schools are government. It would be like the using the post office to deliver free campaign literature. Oh wait... we do that don't we?
