Brickbat: Who Needs Parliament?

Canadian government officials say they won't wait for lawmakers to ban importing handguns into the country. They say they have the authority to temporarily ban imports while waiting on Parliament to approve a law that would ban handguns. "Given that nearly all our handguns are imported, this means that we're bringing our national handgun freeze even sooner," said Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino.

Canada is going full bat ,huh, moose crap crazy.
And having a written constitution and bill of rights looks pretty good right now.
They have a constitution, but like America they just ignore it. As far as the bill of rights people insist that the "derived" right to abortion cannot be infringed by government yet the expressly enumerated and guaranteed right to bear arms, which is the only right to bear the words "shall not be infringed", can be infringed at will not only at the federal level but at the state and local level.
yeah, but the charter essentially says, 'unless it's inconvenient, sorry bout that'

Could be like South American tinpots who rewrite their constitutions every few years.
As someone said not that long ago, a constitution is just a piece of paper. What's important are the institutions that respect and honor it. We've lost that in the US. Canada has lost it. Lots of countries have lost it.
The overwhelming drive to enact the narrative (both sides) means you ignore the pieces of paper that bind you. Meaning a Strong Man (or Sleepy Man) in office who will issue executive orders. Who needs institutions when you have a Strong Sleepy Man running everything?

Canada is a province of China now with a Communist governor-general whose power is absolute.
They say they have the authority...
Good enough for me, eh!
Black market here we come. Why don't they institution Prohibition to get rid of drunk driving too?
Anybody remember Chris Rock's "No Sex in the Champagne Room"?
Mr. Rock imparts the wisdom that you should never go to a party with metal detectors. "Sure, it might feel safe inside, but what about all those (n-words) outside with guns? They know you ain't got one."
Dictators are terrified of armed citizens.
