Brickbat: From Maine to Mexico, But Not California

Last year, the Petaluma, California, city council banned the construction of new gas stations. Four other California cities have followed suit, and Los Angeles City Council member Paul Koretz wants that city to be next. He noted that Gov. Gavin Newsom has proposed banning the sale of vehicles with internal combustion engines by 2035. "Given Gov. Newsom's timeline to end the sale of gas vehicles by 2035, gas stations are a dying business," Koretz said.

When the water runs out and people start fleeing the southwest by the tens of millions, they'll need a lot fewer gas stations.
The delusional have too much power in California.
The delusional have all the power in California.
Please ban the sale of gasoline in CA. Pretty pretty please. Because I need to be entertained.
Who run bartertown?

If only the idea of CA degenerating into a "Mad Max" scenario were really just a joke...
When half of L.A. was hoarding TP, about 10% were hoarding ammo and cans of chrome spray paint.
cans of chrome spray paint

If they actually do ban IC engines in 2035 will be a dying State, in a very literal sense.
Save us from politicians who think they can make what they think "what should be" into "what is" by decree.
If they actually do ban IC engines in 2035 will be a dying State, in a very literal sense.
The loss of gas stations combined with the loss of power and wildfires is a pretty strong indication that the body of the state is already riddled with cancer.
As I said above, much of the southwest is doomed no matter what they do because the water is running out.
Anyone who thinks that's going to happen is a fucking retard. ICEs won't be phased out and people really will revolt if they can't get fuel for their cars.
The ban would just be on the sale of new cars with gas engines in the state. It'll be at least a decade where most of the cars on the road will still be using fossil/biofuels, and if the state Dem party keeps implementing the rest of their agenda for 12 more years, people will be forced to go out of state to buy used IC engine vehicles and bring them back to the state.
If they keep degrading the power grid (and now even taxing the local lithium mining which is necessary for the batteries) at the rate they're going, nobody is going to be able to charge their electric cars at night, and might even need to use the "reverse charging" feature to keep their fridge running in the evenings as well as to cook their dinner.
Couldn't happen to nicer people
The 2040's will be the golden age for auto mechanics in CA.
Until they ban the sale of gas!
Just wondering, but too lazy to look up, are they banning the sale of only new IC vehicles, or does it include 'resale' of existing ones?
CA will probably have a "shall issue" permit where they will subjectively pick winners and losers who can have a grandfathered IC vehicle. You, me, and other serfs will never get one. Sorta like the concealed carry permit non-sense in CA.
^
They can have my IC engine when they pry it from my cold dead hands.. Oh wait...that is their plan.
I own 2 automobiles over 20 years old and recently replaced a third one.
What is the purpose of banning IC engines?
Increase auto sales in neighboring states, i assume.
Also, to create a black market for them.
Finally, to allow certain "approved" friends-of-the-king to continue to sell them (at a heavy mark-up, to make sure they are "green friendly") while all others sales are banned.
It's all for Holy Mother Earth. And oh yeah, money and power.
What is the purpose of banning IC engines?
Why, to force development of the Utopia where everyone drive completely non-polluting, non-GHG electric vehicles, of course. Don't be bothered by Cali having the least reliable electric grid in North America. The politicians have years to work out the bugs. When have they ever failed?
The purpose is to screw the working class that Gavin Buddy-fucker claims to love so much
This is just a "look at us law" in my opinion. I live in a suburb of Houston and only one new gas station has been built in the 10 year I have lived here. I am betting there are not a lot of new gas stations being planned in California cities either. They just spiff up and change the signs on the current ones. But it sounds good in a press release.
I think you’ve got it. I live in Southern California with $3 million people within a 15 mile radius. I can’t think of a new gas station location in the last 20 years. But I know of a few old ones that changed hands.
And no stupid environmental law, policy, or concern enacted in Los Angeles because of the Port of Los Angeles has spread beyond the borders of Los Angeles, or California, or the US...
Remember, the elites' vision for the future of California (and eventually, for all of us) is a "classless" society where the rulers enjoy a comfortable if not luxurious lifestyle, and the peasants enjoy a spartan "sustainable" and "equitable" living, in order to satisfy the delusions of the elites.
But the peasants will get free drugs and free abortions!
..and jobs carrying their betters in palanquins!
Well, the free abortions might have to stop if there is not enough breeding to keep up the supply of serfs.
Ouch!
So, a state with a questionable power grid is pushing toward a ban on IC engines ostensibly in support of EV's despite currently going through the "what do we do with these again solar panels" mess?
On another note, if gas stations are dying businesses then why not let them die on their own? Do they really need to have the stakes repeatedly driven into their heart?
Why Californians keep voting for these dipshits is beyond me.
I'm convinced that the average CA voter believes he can charge his electric car in his garage overnight from solar cells.
