Brickbat: Speak Up

A spokesman for the Erie County, New York, government said officials will seek to fire a 911 dispatcher who hung up on a supermarket employee during the recent shooting rampage in Buffalo. The caller told local media she was whispering because she was hiding and didn't want the gunman to hear her. She said the dispatcher asked why she was whispering, shouted at her, and hung up.

This would seem to be a significant determination, but I'm pretty sure all of that is recorded in the call log.
"Seems you call the police and hang up without saying anything, they call you back right away."
Not that, while hiding from a shooter, having a ringing phone in your hands is the best solution but, policy!
In my experience, if you call 911 from a landline and hang up without saying anything, they don't call you back, they send a cop to investigate.
In my case it was a misdial and I tried to hang up before the call went through.
I’ve made so far this year and I’m a full time student. I’m using an online business opportunity I heard about and I’ve made such great money. (res15) It’s really user friendly and I’m just so happy that I found out about it. Here’s what I do.

So you're the one guy who still uses 411, eh? I blame you.
Finally some meaningful penalty for leaving your ringer on in a quiet zone.
I, too, have my troubles with SOOOO many call girls calling me and quietly, desperately whispering sweet nothings in my ear, that I, too, have to hang up on all but the mostly-moistly alluring ones!
Life is cheap in NY.
911 calls- ignored
Police protection - selective enforcement
Release of criminals - approved w/o bail
Release of convicted criminals- approved for most any reason.
Burning and looting - ignored or encouraged
Gun crimes - charges usually reduced or dropped (gun crimes needed to fuel the 'epidemic of gun violence' talking point)
Conceal carry permit application- denied (personal protection, or anything else, is not considered a valid reason, however bribes are considered).
Magazine capacity - 7 rounds in a 10 rd mag (retired LEOs and criminals are exempt).
Stand your ground law - no, required to run and hide.
Teachers with guns - banned.
Recreational drug use- taxed and encouraged.
Illegal drug use - ignored or encouraged.
Open carry - banned (criminals are expempt)
Reciprocity - NY recognizes no other states carry permits.
Open carry - banned (criminals are expempt)
Not to disagree with the rest, but they do tend to arrest people, criminal or not, openly carrying weapons. At the same time, they do tend to arrest people, criminal or not, openly carrying carrying weapons.
Yup, that was a bad example
Reciprocity - NY recognizes no other states carry permits.
So how about other states refuse to recognize NY permits, like a driver's license, or a marriage license?
Don't you guys know how to social justice? Was the dispatcher female, gender-fluid, trans, non-white, fat, anti-capitalist, or emotionally fragile? Two or more "yes" responses means the dispatcher was more of a victim than the caller, and thus cannot be punished.
will seek to fire a 911 dispatcher who hung up on a supermarket employee
Notice the careful use of language here, "seek to fire". If I fucked up in a significant enough way, my company would not "seek to fire" me, they would fire me. But because of things like qualified immunity (yes, the dispatcher is covered by that, too) and most importantly, public sector unionism, all the city can do is "seek to fire" her in the great fog of bureaucracy. I hope they find what they're looking for, but I'll not hold my breath.
"will seek to fire" = will ask for the Union's permission to fire her.
