GOP Challenger for Alabama Governor Mocks Parents' Rights by Attacking LGBT-Friendly Charter School
Somebody tell Tim James that his political party actually supports school choice.

A candidate for governor in Alabama is attacking school choice, accusing a local charter school of taking taxpayer dollars and "exploiting" children.
But this case is different. Typically it's Democratic politicians attacking school choice at the behest of supporters in public school teachers unions. But in this case, the candidate—Tim James—is a Republican who is attempting to primary Republican Gov. Kay Ivey.
Alabama's Republican Party just voted in favor of a resolution supporting a school choice bill in February, so James' position may seem a bit odd, until you take a look at the school he's targeting. James is on the attack against Magic City Acceptance Academy, an LGBT-friendly charter school near Birmingham that serves about 240 students from sixth through 12th grade and is approved and funded by Alabama.
"Gov. Ivey appointees on the AL Public Charter School Commission funded Magic City Acceptance Academy [with] $2 [million] in the state budget," James tweeted. "The buck stops [with] the governor. As governor, Tim James would have opposed the formation of this school and would have vetoed any budget that funded it."
James is using the "these are our tax dollars" argument, a claim often made by opponents of school choice and vouchers, acting as though the parents who want to send their kids to Magic City Acceptance Academy aren't taxpayers and shouldn't have the right to decide the curriculum of the school.
James' 30-second ad attacking the school (which begins with James saying "there's a war going on between common sense and crazy") doesn't say the students attending Magic City Acceptance Academy are getting a substandard education or that the money has been wasted. The entire argument appears to be that the faculty put on a drag show once, and that's it. Given the ad's attempts to play into the current anti-trans panic (name-checking trans swimmer Lia Thomas and noting Ketanji Brown Jackson's unwillingness to define what a woman is during Senate hearings for her Supreme Court nomination), the argument is essentially that the school is corrupting kids.
But again, the only evidence presented in the ad is a single drag show that school Principal Michael Wilson subsequently explained was a fundraising idea suggested by the students themselves.
These are students and families who want to attend Magic City. They don't have to. Nobody is being corrupted or exploited. If parents don't like the curriculum, they can just leave—something you can't really say about public schools.
In reality, James' attack smacks of an attention-seeking stunt from a candidate who is well in the weeds already. Polling from March has Ivey in a commanding lead in the primary with more than 60 percent of the likely vote among Republicans. If she gets at least 50 percent of the vote, there will be no need for a runoff election and she'll hold James off.
Threatening to veto an entire budget because money goes to a school that teaches things you don't agree with makes a mockery of the concept of school choice. It's attacks like these that have the potential to raise skepticism about whether some conservatives and Republicans actually support school choice or if they only support the creation of schools that share their personal values.

So, a public school devoted to the sexual preferences of children is something that should be supported?
No.
It's not.
Scott is a groomer at best, and I suspect might actually molest prepubescent children.
@Azathath!!
It looks from their website that it's just a school that affirms the LGBT+ identities of children. It's good children have a place to go where they won't be bullied for that sort of thing.
In most schools male and female students are allowed to flirt, hold hands in the hallway, talk about going on dates after school, and so on, as long as it is done during their free time and does not disrupt the lessons being taught. Why is it a problem for male students to also be able to do that with other male students, and for female students to be able to do that with other female students?
Most people begin to develop romantic and sexual preferences years before reaching adulthood. As long as it is age appropriate (i.e. directed at other kids and teens of the same approximate age instead of at adults) and safe, it is healthy to affirm this development.
Get lynched, pedo.
The pervs decided they can't fight school choice, so they're using their tried-and-true method: First the "affirmation". Next, validation. Finally, indoctrination.
Not bullied, just groomed.
NO school has any right to interfere in the sexual identities of it's students. That IS NOT their job.
Nothing stops gay children from flirting or dating or talking about dating. EXCEPT things that are outside the purview of the government based educational system.
That is not their job.
Schools cannot stop bullying. They can alter the focus about who gets bullied in school, but they cannot stop it. Bullying is a process whereby human dominance behaviors are taught.
Those who overcome bullies lead. Those who cannot follow. And bullies who cannot grow past bullying flail through life.
Republicans have never cared about “school choice” as a real policy that promotes a wide ranges of educational options for parents to send their children to.
It has always been a catch-word for keeping segregated schools, keeping fact based history and health classes out of schools, and pushing Christian religion into schools.
You are a hate filled monster.
You're just a jackass who is too afraid to look in the mirror.
"It's okay that the school is run by pederastic groomers! It's a private school! School choice means it's okay to fuck and castrate children! Banging seven-year-old's is totally libertarian!"
Catholic at the very least ...
Where do you even come up with this garbage?
From woke progressives like this gal. https://twitter.com/libsoftiktok/status/1512208604421496832
Molly is right, all you hate-mongering troglodytes!!! Texas social workers (child protection workers) are quitting right and left, due to Texas hate-filled laws about prosecuting parents, "children", and doctors who treat "gender dysphoria", which is NONE of YOUR business, Nosenheimers and Buttinskies!!! YOU and your busy-body ways are endanering the REAL victims of child abuse, with your self-righteous meddling!
READ this with an open mind... If you can EVER develop an open mind, plus benevolence... And you will see!!!
https://www.texastribune.org/2022/04/11/texas-trans-child-abuse-investigations/
Distraught over orders to investigate trans kids’ families, Texas child welfare workers are resigning
Other investigators don’t want to follow an order they believe harms families but worry about the impact of a mass employee exodus on the state’s most vulnerable children.
Explain to me how the mass exodus of tens of thousands of public employees is a bad thing?
Well, if one assumes that ALL public employees ALWAYS perform ONLY evil deeds, then I can see why no rational, data-driven human being could ever reach you, on Planet Berserkistanistanistanistan, or wherever it is, that you live...
Do YOU think that ALL parents are ALWAYS in the right, and NO agent of the public, or of general benevolence, should EVER intervene? If this is your belief, does it apply on Planet Earth, or only on Planet Berserkistanistanistanistan?
So you're saying five year olds can consent sexually? Is that what you're getting at? Because nobody was talking about Child Protective Services, but teaching and having sex with kids.
That's not cool, man.
I see! So you’re saying that the Intergalactic Sub-Smegmonic Boogoidian-Strawmen-Hybrids have deployed booger-beams (Those unspeakable BASTARDS) and have hijacked your tinfoil hat! You have my sympathies, but no more… I have no good advice for you, sorry! Other victims of the Intergalactic Sub-Smegmonic Boogoidian-Strawmen-Hybrids that I have known? They all ended up on Skid Row, and I could NOT help them!
Sqrlsy couldn't answer you so he babbled nonsense instead. Maybe the old Nazi really is a pedo?
All who disagree with MarxistMammaryFuhrer are "babbling"! Case closed! For tribalist morons, that is, at least!
I for one can’t STAND the idea that a casual reader here of a libertarian news and commenting site would read the vapid and vile comments, and conclude, “Oh, so THAT’s what libertarians are all about!” No, it’s just that libertarians (and VERY few others) still believe in free speech, so the troglodytes come HERE, where their vile lies & vapid insults will NOT be taken down!
The intelligent, well-informed, and benevolent members of tribes have ALWAYS been resented by those who are made to look relatively worse (often FAR worse), as compared to the advanced ones. Especially when the advanced ones denigrate tribalism. The advanced ones DARE to openly mock “MY Tribe’s lies leading to violence against your tribe GOOD! Your tribe’s lies leading to violence against MY Tribe BAD! VERY bad!” And then that’s when the Jesus-killers, Mahatma Gandhi-killers, Martin Luther King Jr.-killers, etc., unsheath their long knives!
“Do-gooder derogation” (look it up) is a socio-biologically programmed instinct. SOME of us are ethically advanced enough to overcome it, using benevolence and free will! For details, see http://www.churchofsqrls.com/Do_Gooders_Bad/ and http://www.churchofsqrls.com/Jesus_Validated/ .
In conclusion, troglodytes, thanks for helping me to prove my points!
The only ones talking about having sex with kids are Republicans.
So what do you imagine Magic City grooming academy is all about then, Shrike?
"which is NONE of YOUR business, Nosenheimers and Buttinskies"
Yipes! Stopping people from fucking and castrating little kids is being "nosey". That's a pedophiles take if I ever saw one.
You didn't read the cited link, did you, Oh Great Self-Righteous Asshole? You sure as hell did NOT read it with ONE iota of benevolence!
SUMMARY for YOU, Great Self-Righteous Asshole: Child-abuse preventers are QUITTING their jobs (and endangering children who are subjected to REAL abuse), rather than violating their consciences, going on totally unjustified witch-hunts!!!
Why try to reason with unreasonable people, witch-burners, and Perfect People (narcissists) like you, Oh Perfect Necrophiliac? Unless one is a masochist, and enjoys futility and frustration?
I give up on YOU at least, power-worshipping luster after PUNISHING-PUNISHING-PUNISHING all of the ones who are LESSER than YOU, Oh Perfect One! Is DEATH-DEATH-DEATH to all who disagree with YOU, Perfect One, ENOUGH to satisfy Your Perfect Punishment Boner?
If their "conscience" involves castrating kids and teaching them how to assfuck then they are evil and should be gone.
There's no protection in grooming.
Mammary-Necrophilia-Fuhrer, Supreme Demonic Director of Decay, Destruction, and Death, will now SPEAK! HARKKK silently and RESPECTFULLY, all ye lowly heathens, as She Directs Death, and announces WHICH few of us MIGHT deserve to live, and WHO all deserves to DIE-DIE-DIE!!!

“You should really join ᛋᛋqrlsy, ᛋᛋhrike. You two goosestepping fascists offing yourselves would definitely be a mitzvah.”
-Quote MammaryBahnFuhrer the "Expert Christian Theologian"
So Mammary-Necrophilia-Fuhrer, Supreme Demonic Director of Decay, Destruction, and Death... WHEN are You going to STOP stealing the IDs of Your victims, and then posting kiddie porn in THEIR names, and then blaming THEM?
Inquiring minds want to KNOW, dammit!
Inquiring minds want to know why you like to diddle kids, Sqrlsy.
Wow! you have just lost it in this thread! Why do you appear so threatened and reactive?
Because self-righteous and hateful assholes who believe in utterly groundless conspiracy theories like "pizza-gate", and Trump's Big Lie (leading to Trumpanzees gone apeshit, lusting after replacing democracy with mobocracy) lead to senseless violence! Have you ever even heard of PizzaGate? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pizzagate_conspiracy_theory
So when can we expect YOU to go postal, excuse-maker for evil?
Politics is full of pederasts, but I think we're finally finding out why you don't want it examined, Sqrlsy.
MammaryBahnFuhrer will be right there at the next PizzaGate, BURNING and SHOOTING all of the (imagined) witches and pedophiles!
(Not to mention hundreds of millions of vote-stealing Demon-Craps, who deserved to be KILLED, even if we have to use the whole world's stockpile of nukes, and drive humans to extinction!!! 'Cause THAT is how HUGE MammaryBahnFuhrer's "punishment lust" is!)
SQRLSY is most likely a pedo. Is he a full on rapist? Africans, dyslexics, children, you know, that sort of thing? Wouldn’t surprise me.
keeping segregated schools, keeping fact based history and health classes out of schools, and pushing Christian religion into schools.
Fun facts:
1. Catholic schools accepted blacks in the South before taxpayer funded schools
2. The handling of COVID by the CDC, FDA and NIH haven proven without any doubt that they do not care a whit about health, sciences or data
3. Christian religion in schools is far more fact based and generally embraced by most Americans than your Woke religion.
Now get on your broom and fly away to cast your wish casting spells elsewhere
1. Some Catholic schools are great. They have solid curriculums and are non-discriminatory. However many religious schools are quite bad.
2. Dirty and well debunked Republican lie.
3. See 1.
Minor edit: Some non-Catholic religious schools are also good.
So many bad. Some good. Curious change in modifier there. Almost like you have a bias.
Molly is pro grooming.
This is true. School choice is good. I've been in favor of real school choice for forty years now. Anything that lets parents escape the one-size-fits-all government school system.
But Democrats hate that, and so do the Republicans. There is no difference between the two, except that Democrats tend to hate it more. Does not mean Republicans don't hate it as well.
The short term solution are school vouchers and tuition tax credits. NOT more charter schools (which are just public schools in disguise). The long term solution is the disbanding of the public school system itself. Get the federal government out of it, then the states as well, and if counties still demand them, then let it stay at the county level.
Ds don’t like school choice because they don’t see it as a viable pat to provide a quality education for all students.
Nothing to do with unions?
" they don’t see it "
To be fair, we wouldn't expect economic illiterates to see reality for what it is.
they don’t see it as a viable pat to provide a quality education for all students
In contrast to the compulsory government schools, which are great.
"But Democrats hate that, and so do the Republicans. There is no difference between the two, except that Democrats tend to hate it more. Does not mean Republicans don't hate it as well."
This is just flat wrong. At most you can say that some republicans don't support it. Republicans have consistently been THE biggest proponents of voucher programs, and the thanks they get is people like you and Shackford dredging up the comments of some fringe has-been in podunk Alabama and using it to say Republicans really aren't interested in school choice.
How about this: You and Shackford would make a lot more headway by dropping your obsession with people like republicans, and instead focusing on advocating issues. Focusing on the ISSUE of school choice has actually achieved- you know- a better amount of school choice. And last I checked, it wasn't libertarians who scored those victories.
Idiot.
Um yep, basically.
A voice of reason finally on reason.
LOL
"Republicans have never cared about 'school choice'"
Well one thing is undeniably MORE-TRUE than that statement.
The Democratic Nazi-Regime and their Nazi-Indoctrination Camps systems certainly NEVER cared about "school choice"...
Perhaps the biggest mistake was creating Commie-Education... Ya know; the DNC flagship... Because someone was just too d*mn lazy to teach their own kids reading, writing and math so just as well throw some Gov-Guns in people's faces and make them do it.... Just like criminals would do.
Don't forget the subsidized brainwashing of kids to support shoot-first prohibitionism when they are old enough to pay poll taxes and vote.
Yup. This.
You don't know jack about what Republicans want.
News flash, Team Red is not in favor of school choice. They want to indoctrinate kids in school just as much as Team Blue does, just with a different set of indoctrination ideas.
Team Blue: There are 97 genders, and if you disagree you are a bigot.
Team Red: A man is a man and a woman is a woman, that's that, and if you disagree you hate kids.
I’m not sure you are making the case you think you are making.
LOL
That gubernint eggjuhkayshun worked well for him.
+100000000000000.... That was just too funny.
I was prepared to yell at y'all for the implication of your comments here, that this one from Jeffy was worth peeking at, if it turned out just be some plain old run of the mill stupidity.
I won't be needing to do that.
Man, wow. That's almost a thing of beauty right there, in a certain light. I have seen more epic fails before, but never one in so few words. There's an elegance to it. It is a poem that makes a statement.
And that statement is, "I don't care what obstacles might stand in my way, I am going to take the shortest line path to showing the entire world that I am an absolute leadwit paint-huffing shitpoke."
Mission Accomplished!
Yep. For once jeffy is right about something.
But, both teams will SAY they are in favor of school choice, when convenient, because it is a convenient motte-and-bailey tactic. It gives them a high-minded rationale for their preferred policy position, rather than the real rationale, which is narrow and tribalistic.
Team Blue Motte: I'm in favor of "school choice" (if it doesn't upset local teacher unions) because I support greater choice in principle.
Team Blue Bailey: I'm in favor of "school choice" only when kids can escape the cis straight white male patriarchal curriculum and be taught a curriculum more aligned with my preferences, otherwise, I'm not in favor of school choice.
Team Red Motte: I'm in favor of "school choice" because I'm a Real Murican who believes in liberty.
Team Red Bailey: I'm in favor of "school choice" only when kids can escape the cultural Marxist communist curriculum and be taught a curriculum more aligned with my preferences, otherwise, I'm not in favor of school choice.
No better.
"But, both teams will SAY they are in favor of school choice, when convenient"
Oh gosh. That explains why there is no such thing as any sort of school choice in the United States. No...no wait...
https://www.edchoice.org/school-choice-in-america-dashboard-scia/
According to that, there are many states in the Union who offer some form of school choice. Any guess on which party tends to lead the states where choice exists?
It is really funny, because before becoming a parent I was actually a big advocate of school choice in Colorado. We fought to create vouchers, and a private school tuition program in several counties. We were pretty successful. And then one by one, as Colorado became more blue, all that progress was lost. It wasn't Republicans who rolled that shit back.
Both sides!
"News flash, Team Red is not in favor of school choice."
Republicans in Alabama created the legislation that made this charter school available. They are further on record trying to expand school choice. The current Team Red governor appointed the people who approved the law. The entire Alabama republican regime is responsible for this Charter School existing.
But, hey guys- a dude who cannot even pull 15% of the Republican primary vote tweeted some idiocy, and that means the GOP hates school choice.
I actually came expecting these claims of both sides are equal as usual. Glad jeff didn't disappoint.
But, hey guys- a dude who cannot even pull 15% of the Republican primary vote tweeted some idiocy, and that means the GOP hates school choice.
And, again, he isn't saying "End the charter school program." he's effectively saying "Maybe there are some programs, public or private, that aren't worth spending tax dollars on." That shitbag
libertarianRepublican, suggesting tax dollars not be spent on pet schooling projects. The nerve of him! It's Scott fucking Reason's own school choice program in the ass, maybe without even realizing it. The choice between one, progressively more intersectionality heavy state-run program and two dozen state-funded programs of various contemporary cultural intersectionality points is not school choice. It's just more slices of the same pie with even more thumbs in it.
Well, I think his logic is bad. If we are going to have public taxes going to the schools, then the funds should be spent on what the parents want. That may mean some kids learn which of 40 genders they are, and that may mean they learn to be Fundie whackadoodles. That is the price for freedom.
This guy is wrong. Saying "This school is stupid" and saying "As governor, I'd have blocked this school of choice because I think it is stupid" are two different things, and a person interested in school choice should be willing to support schools they think are stupid, just so long as the parents have the choice to use it or not.
A person interested in school choice should be willing to support schools they think are stupid, just so long as the parents have the choice to use it or not.
How far though? At what point do children need protection from abusive parents?
This is actually the point where we should debate, and I thank you for bringing us here.
The best place to look for guidance is general estate/executor law. There are many outcomes of an estate. Some maximize wealth, and some maximize value to a specific cause. The law actually gives quite large latitude, so long as the Trustee isn't benefitting at the expense of their Trust.
Look, freedom is messy. It can mean that a dude ODs on fentanyl. It can mean that kids end up working at the local mill. It can mean that kids end up going to CSSU and getting a useless degree in Class Struggles with a $45,000 college debt.
This stuff will present very specific challenges and advantages to the kids. But at the end of the day, so what? I can choose to be a beach bum, or I can choose to climb a corporate ladder. Parents can choose whatever the fuck they want for their kids. I know that sounds cruel, but the alternative is the government and a bunch of commies choosing the future of kids, despite the wishes of their parents.
We each have inalienable rights. When we use those rights to create a new person, they also have inalienable rights that we hold in trust until they reach an age to act on their own behalf. That might result in expressions of rights that make you angry, like gay sex, or commie proclivities, or worshiping a sky god. So the fuck what? Freedom means tolerating other people's weird beliefs so that you can believe yours.
Tolerating, mostly. Acceptance is somewhat slower but the current bar is set to "positivity," which I absolutely disagree with.
And when "positivity" is brought to kids, that is indefensibly grooming. At this point, if it's not hard sciences I will need a justification for its inclusion and a review of course materials before I trust it.
Excellent point. By trying to frame certain efforts in terms of 'positivity' and acceptance these institutions are trying to force the assumption that the positivity they are pushing is by default an objective good and that if you dispute that then it is you that is bad and a bigot.. etc etc.
In reality, the only default position that could possibly be an objective good would be skepticism.
This guy is wrong. Saying "This school is stupid" and saying "As governor, I'd have blocked this school of choice because I think it is stupid" are two different things, and a person interested in school choice should be willing to support schools they think are stupid, just so long as the parents have the choice to use it or not.
Uh, you're stealing a (couple of) base(s) that I left out and, like Scott, fucking your own (the Libertarian) cause in the ass. If the people of AL don't want to pay for LGBTQ schools or underage Mormon Bride schools, that's up to the Governor (or an underling) and the FedGov can/should fuck off.
If we agree that the best outcomes are completely privatized schooling and/or taxpayers (even the ones without kids) opting in to pay for schools as they see fit, the Republicans are putting up a 'perfect as enemy of the good' choice and Scott's taking the most disingenuous shitbag of stances by virtually any metric and calling it a lose-lose.
If you really do think freedom is messy, suck it up and acknowledge that your pet school is either going to have to pay for itself or you're going to have to teach your underage kids how to be genderqueer on your own. Saying we should collecting more taxpayer dollars to fund more diversity doesn't even make the claim (rather the opposite) and has a proven track record of failing to clean it up.
Fuck you, cut spending.
Wouldn't it have been great if there had been some sort of "libertarian moment" when libertarians could have engaged conservatives about the relevance of libertarian political principles to their values? A "Tea Party", or something similar. And wouldn't it have been swell if libertarians took advantage of that opportunity, rather than sucking up to progressives in the name of liberaltarianism or bleeding heart libertarianism or "thick" libertarianism? In that kind of world, conservative voters might actually give two sh**s about allowing public support for institutions that favor progressive sensibilities.
In other words, wouldn't it have been great if all libertarians thought alike?
I'm sorry, but Ron Paul was about as "thin" of a libertarian as was practically possible in the 2000's/2010's, and he got way more support than any of the "thick" libertarians that you rail against, and that STILL wasn't enough to convince Team Red voters en masse that libertarian values were more important than the latest manufactured cultural crisis du jour.
At some point you will have to recognize that Team Red is just fundamentally different than Team Libertarian. We value liberty for its own sake. They don't. They value liberty only when they see it producing a world that aligns with their cultural values. The moment people start using liberty to produce a world that they don't like, they will turn authoritarian and start banning the exercise of THAT liberty.
Ron Paul was about as "thin" of a libertarian as was practically possible in the 2000's/2010's, and he got way more support than any of the "thick" libertarians that you rail against
Yeah he got more support....from Republicans! Because that was the party in whose elections he was running. Meanwhile, the libertarian establishment was calling him racist publishing racist newsletters.
Slipping that mystical girl-bullier an endorsement sure got rid of the Roe v Wade plank the Libertarian Party had in its platform in '72. Nowadays 3 out of 4 "libertarians" aren't women (more if you don't count harridans), think footgear are hats (like Gus Ferguson of Brain Bypass surgery in The Far Side) and LOST US BALLOT ACCESS!
Any serious libertarian would have been ecstatic if Ron Paul had become President in 2008 or 2012. Trillions of dollars NOT in debt, no inflation, hundreds of thousands of peoples around the world not dead from bombs and so on. The guy was about the closest to a perfect President that any liberatarians could wish for and the "cosmo" types shit all over him. ENB, Cathy Young and so on. I can't wait for the Von Mises caucus to send the lot of those types packing to the dems where they belong.
"At some point you will have to recognize that Team Red is just fundamentally different than Team Libertarian. We value liberty for its own sake. They don't."
Based on what evidence? This LGBT friendly charter school was created in a deep red state, using laws passed by republicans, and approved by a committee appointed by a republican. But because some fringe asshole who can't get 15% of the vote said otherwise, ain't no republican interested in Liberty.
And, by the way, this is HILARIOUS coming from you. You have been on record insisting that Teachers should be allowed to set the curriculum of children over the objections of their Parents, which is (last time I checked) not the position of liberty.
But please tell me more about what the right thinks, given that you are such an expert.
FWIW I always felt that Ron Paul was a libertarian only wrt Federal government. He seemed quite content to let state gubmints ride roughshod where "necessary".
You shouldn’t speak of values. You have none.
Tea-totalitarianism was the most egregious fraud perpetrated by girl-bullying whack jobs masquerading as "Positive Christian libertarians". Evidently, threatening the elephantiasis party with spoiler vote bleedout--unless they force them pagan bitches to reproduce for Fuhrer and Fatherland--brought results! Texas is becoming the Brokeback Mountain State.
It really chaps God's Own Populists to see weed being legalized and Dems copying the LP platform... kinda like beer in 1933 to 1953. Those election results were thanks to the Liberal Party platform plank the Dems copied in 1932, and the LP plank they copied after the G. Waffen Bush Crash and Depression.
WTF are you nonsensically gibbering about now?
James is using the "these are our tax dollars" argument
Did we just get a "You didn't build those tax dollars." argument from a "Free Minds And Free Markets" author?
Shit hole doesn't even describe this place any more. Shit holes stink. You can see them in broad daylight. You fall in, get covered in shit, take a shower, change clothes and you're fine. This place is more like the implausible Sunnydale sitting on top of a Hellmouth from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Generally unseen, distorting reality, attracting all sorts of nonsensical malicious demons, creating havoc on a local populace attracted and sustained solely as prey for the entities attracted to and released by the hellmouth.
James is on the attack against Magic City Acceptance Academy, an LGBT-friendly charter school near Birmingham…
This is so idiotic. I graduated from an all boys Jesuit high school in the 80s, with 81 boys in the class. Since graduating my gay classmates and I have gotten together to compare notes on our experiences as closeted gay boys, and we all agree. Machismo aside, none of us felt threatened, in harms way or victims of “hate” (eyeroll). True they made fun of homos for being girls, queens and sissies. But heck, we gays have always done the same thing of other homos, melodramatic gays and the current crop of LGBTQIA_EIEIO, acting like cringeworthy flames. If you were a member of the gay population, you would know how incredibly judgmental we are of other gays.
Stop using us gay folk as political fodder for either side, and stop lumping “binary”, “queer”, and “trans” into our gay basket. Lesbians and gays agree: we have nothing in common with them.
Ps: Tim James is super hot. How hung is he?
who we thought was gay
Lol, that's why gay white men are the bottom of the progressive stack.
My white husband is not a bottom, more like a versatile. Since I am the hung ???? brown Latino/x/wtf, I get to bottom often. Diversity bubba. Its the only way to be
Well, isn’t that special? Thank you for sharing.
Why are gay people sooo intolerant?
This is brilliant. A republican whack job is running for office in Landover Baptist territory. All the commenters are blabbering about queer snowflakes, NOT girls forced to squeeze out future Hitlerjugend and NOT blacks, latinos and hippies being gunned down and robbed... this over plant leaves still as illegal there as when Republican appointee Harry Anslinger terrorized Billie Holliday.
Schooling should be private. End property taxes so that money can be spent on a private school of the parents choice.
So only kids from rich parents would get an education?
Well, the populace would also be mainly just as stupid as the moron who says that and who will vote Republican so....I'm sure they're just fine with that.
You and Shrike played that "Without public schools education wouldn't exist" card last time too.
So only kids from rich parents would get an education?
That's actually how the current system works. Kids from "rich" parents (people who are willing to shell out $15-20k a year for a kids' education) get an education. Everyone else is imprisoned for 12 years.
Remove the government from the equation, and as with all things, I guarantee it gets less expensive.
So only kids from rich parents would get an education a ride to school in a new SUV?
HTML fail
Guess you didn't know this but landlords also pay property taxes. Really. I know it's hard to grasp. They also include that tax in the rents that poor people pay. With the exception of possibly the homeless, everybody pays property taxes. And if the homeless ever purchase anything they pay property taxes too. I know it's scary and confusing but if there were no property taxes those dollars would be returned to the economy. Some people might spend those dollars on private schools.
Taxation is theft. Can you even spell "libertarian"?
So the polls favor the conservative incumbent even though she is consistent in her school-choice policies and adopts the position Reason recommends?
And the takeaway is...conservatives are just as bad as progressives?
Not just any polls, but polls of Alabama Republican primary voters.
Maybe there will be an upset on primary day and Ivey will be unseated by this other guy - unless and until that happens, it's a bit premature (at best) to talk about conservative inconsistency.
It says a lot that Shackford had to search far and wide, and could only find a single crank in a Primary who can't pull 15% of the redneck vote in order to justify his "skepticism about whether some conservatives and Republicans actually support school choice".
You’re not surprised, are you?
The GOP policy options are between offering a choice of public schools at taxpayer expense and defunding (some... ?) schools and Reason, somehow, manages to portray it as a libertarian crisis.
It's not even 'the perfect as enemy of the good', it's 'the good and perfect are bad because they're being proposed by the wrong team'.
Once again, the problem isn't the schools, the problem is the One-Size-Fits-All government school system that both Democrats and Republicans insist upon. Charter schools are still government schools. True school choice means the ability to LEAVE the government school system.
Because in the end, politicians moving in next door are far far more dangerous than teh gays or dem darkies or that trans kid with two mommies. Those are just people, it's the politicians are scare the shit out of me.
Also a problem: Excessive reqs for degrees to do a job! Special interests driven! Like, you have to have a Doctor of Doctorology degree to give me permission to blow on a cheap plastic flute! Fucking greedy doctors and the AMA can be thanked! Why can't a graduate of the 2nd grade give me that permission?!?!
Stay ye SAFE from the lung flute police!!!
To find precise details on what NOT to do, to avoid the flute police, please see http://www.churchofsqrls.com/DONT_DO_THIS/ … This has been a pubic service, courtesy of the Church of SQRLS!
You've hit on a serious problem of the advanced world that, although it interlocks with government-schoolism, exists independently. The world is not advanced enough for the education that's possible and practiced.
Mark Twain enjoyed asking Mormon kiddies how many mommies they have.
Magic City Acceptance Academy
I assume that the school mascot is a unicorn.
It's a child who identifies as a unicorn.
When all you've got is an abattoir, every problem looks like a unicorn.
+1
I'm looking for a unicorn steak, moderately marbled... How much per pound? How much extra for organic unicorn, and for GMO-free unicorn, gluten-free unicorn, and plutonium-free unicorn? Fair-wages unicorn? Are the butchers... I mean, workers... at the unicorn abattoir well-paid, well-hung, and well-laid?
(Asking for a unicorn-hating fiend.)
I'm afraid I can't help you. The unicorns I slaughter are ground up to make stripper glitter.
So Tim James used one example of something that happened at the school to denounce it, and Shackford uses his criticism of one school to claim he’s against all school choice.
James is...acting as though the parents who want to send their kids to Magic City Acceptance Academy aren't taxpayers and shouldn't have the right to decide the curriculum of the school.
Scott, pease tell me you are informed enough to understand parents only pay a fraction of the cost of their children's public school education.
James is not wrong. As long as everyone is compelled to finance public education, everyone gets a voice in the mission.
Government school, government education in the claws of the entity with a monopoly on the use of coercive and deadly force. What could possibly go wrong?
Reason writers are really desperate to find excuses to complain about Republicans.
Reason loves to defend taxpayer-funded pedophilia. In their minds, the First Amendment was written to protect the right of public school teachers to say anything they want to children.
Um... you are aware that children date other children, and teens date other teens, right? Schools like this are about protecting and affirming kids who experience same-sex attraction, and/or are in same-sex relationships, with other kids their own age. Not with adults.
I do not get this bizarre and out of touch insistence that the only reason someone could want to tell kids that gay people exist is to groom them to be molested by adults. Do you also think that telling kids straight people exist is done for the purpose of grooming them to be molested by adults of the opposite sex? If someone reads "Cinderella" to a little kid are they "grooming" them since Cinderella marries a man at the end of the story?
No, this is why. 4000% is a cause for concern.

Why is this part of school? I could see sexual reproduction in health class but honestly what role or right do schools have in "helping' a youngster decide their sexual preferences..that is a very private thing and not for "therapists" roaming schools to push an agenda.
Superstition-addled bigotry always comes first with Republicans, conservatives, and faux libertarian clingers especially as one travels farther into the desolate, can't-keep-up south.
[WE] mob gangster affiliation bigotry always comes first with Democrats. Well of course it does; that's the whole foundation of "democratic" *unlimited* Power-Mad Gov-Gun Power....
The USA isn't a democracy... It's a Constitutional Union of Republican States.. At least the GOP platform acknowledges that.
For all your Constitution-worshipping...
Do you worship the Constitution before or after booze-drinking was outlawed? Before or after booze was then re-legalized?
In a future era when the Constitution declares every sperm, fertilized egg, and UN-fertilized egg to be a Sacred Soul-Bearing Entity... And turns us all into breeding slaves... Will you STILL worship the Constitution?
The Constitution is the definition of the USA...
If you don't like it WHAT THE F ARE YOU DOING HERE?????
I (ass a Cuntstitution-worshipper) desire to live in a future era when the Constitution declares every sperm, fertilized egg, and UN-fertilized egg to be a Sacred Soul-Bearing Entity... Lacking a trans-dimensional worblifier and-or a time-warping boooogifier, I can't get there from here!!! ***IF*** you can provide me with a trans-dimensional worblifier and-or a time-warping boooogifier... Or at the BARE minimum, a Magic Booger Beam... I will depart from here to there, post haste!
(PLEASE?)
"If you don't like it WHAT THE F ARE YOU DOING HERE?????"
Trolling. He's a troll.

She's a WITCH, dammit!!!
What if the kid you're gagging with your 3 inches of fury, stops breathing, Sqrlsophile? Is that better or worse.
What if MammaryFuhrer's uber-necrophiliac lusts for punishment, death, and destruction leads us all to extinction? At least all of the IMPERFECT lesser beings (less than The Perfect MammaryFuhrer, that is) will be Perfectly PUNISHED, right, Perfect Power Pig?
You think that Ellen Page is a man.
I haven't read the article yet, but let me guess how it goes:
Shackford and his editor warp an attack on spending tax money on some crackpot propaganda program into an attack on the very notion of school choice. "LGBT-friendly" turns out not to mean "unquestioningly welcoming of teenager students without prying into their or their parents' sexual preferences", but rather, "carrying on a program of LGBT propaganda among children of all ages that's just as or more oppressive to kids as/than any fag-bashing regime would've been to homosexual teenagers years ago, and which isn't even desired by most of the families who choose that school to put their kids into because it excels in other respects". And it may excel just because the district's other schools are piss-poor.
Did I hit it? Am I psychic? Now I'll read it.
Looks like I was completely wrong. But you'd've believed it, right?
I can see both sides of some of the issues involved here. I do NOT want to rain on your parade at ALL!!! Give the below a read, please...
I for one sure wish that the modern medical establishment was as data-driven as the CLAIM to be! But NOOOOO, we may NOT collect data, if it might be used (in BAD ways) by the troglodytes!

I am utterly SHOCKED to learn that NOT offending the “tranny brigade” of PC people is WAY more important than the actual happiness of trannies and potential trannies!!! Or even STUDYING such matters!
Speaking of such things, there are biochemical, often off-label, solutions to your urges towards becoming a tranny, which MIGHT actually lead to better results! To MORE happiness, for many potential trannies! To becoming happy with your body, as it already is! Imagine that!
See http://www.drugs.com/condition/gender-dysphoria.html for “Off Label” uses of drugs for suppressing “gender dysphoria”… 6 drugs listed in web link above, to include (pretty obviously) testosterone…
Also use below as search-string…
“Transgender woman, who claims pills for male hair-loss sparked gender change, opens up about 'life and death struggle'”
Concerns male-hair-loss “…drug Propecia, called finasteride, to halt the onset of hereditary baldness”, which feminized his / her body, and brought around the desire for a sex change, according to him-now-her.
So then Propecia AKA (generic) finasteride sounds like a darned-good choice for an off-label drug use, if you are female, contemplating sex-change to male, and worrying that your marriage might not survive such a sex change… Which is a strong possibility! Try this first, to see if maybe you’d like to stay female, before you make drastic changes…
Also see “The successful treatment of a gender dysphoric patient with Pimozide” at http://www.researchgate.net/publication/14365362_The_successful_treatment_of_a_genderdysphoric_patient_with_Pimozide
(I hope that the PC police won’t be bashing my door down soon, for my sins, in reporting this.)
See https://reason.com/blog/2017/10/03/brickbat-dont-ask-dont-tell/ , right from the top of that...
"The ethics committee at Bath Spa University, a public university in England, barred a graduate student in psychotherapy from studying transgender people who regret having reassignment surgery."
The "data driven medical and psychological communities" will not ALLOW the study of people who have regretted becoming "trans"!!! We will ONLY study the (supposedly, outwardly) HAPPY trans!!!
Geezum, do you think that there could be some... BIAS in the folks who "study" these matters?!?!?!
Trump made them regret it, and also overcharged for his famous balm.

School choice should end at lying. NO SCHOOL should be allowed to lie to children. If we allow schools to lie selectively we are establishing divisions in society and children as combatants without the tools to rationally resolve conflicts.
LGBT is an ideology linked to mental disorder. Saying it isn’t is a lie.
Religion is an ideology. Saying that something than cannot be proven is true, is a lie.
Both issues can and need to be discussed in school, but not as polar opposites. They have many similarities.
Saying that something than cannot be proven is true, is a lie.
Something that can't be proven can still be true. Gravity existed before it was quantified. The convergence of the K-means algorithm was assumed long before it was proven.
Correct.
Truth, reality probably exists that we cannot perceive. To say it does exist, without proof, must be considered a lie.
Describing as truth what only you have witnessed is even more problematic. You could be mistaken.
That being said, rational evolution demands that we base our decisions on truth. We need to make some decisions even when there is no irrefutable evidence of truth.
We must do the best we can using all available evidence to discern the greatest probability of truth to make a decision.
For simplicity we consider this estimate of truth as truth.
What we DON’T do is ignore any evidence to cherry pick that which confirms our biases and make those the curriculum for students.
LGBTQ+ is not an ideology, especially since same-sex attraction and sexual activity and Transgenderism occurs naturally in non-human, non-rational species of animals. To believe and teach that LGBTQ+ is an ideology in the face of biological fact is to believe and teach a deliberate falsehood and deserves criminal prosecution by your standards.
And Religion would also include the Positive Christianity and Islam and Occultism embraced by Adolf Hitler and his fellow Nazis, so they believed in lies too and deserve criminal prosecution for lying by your standards.
In other words, Fuck Off, Nazi!
An ideology is simply a choice of lifestyle. Animals make choices too.
Some choices are bad and deserve punishment, fuckwit.
So what is your basis for believing that non-sapient species other than humans have Volition?
And remember, if you can't prove what you assert and you continue to assert it, you are deliberately asserting an untruth, which is lying and, according to you, deserves prosecution.
Again, Fuck Off, Nazi!
Are you illiterate fixkwit?
I said,
“ That being said, rational evolution demands that we base our decisions on truth. We need to make some decisions even when there is no irrefutable evidence of truth.
We must do the best we can using all available evidence to discern the greatest probability of truth to make a decision.
For simplicity we consider this estimate of truth as truth”
We observe animals making choices. There is no better scientific explanation for their behaviour. How stupid are you?
Non-sapient animals act upon their automatic hard-wiring and within their limited strictly perceptual faculties.
Humans have conceptual faculty that integrates sensory evidence into concepts which humans retain for more than just immediate understanding. And that faculty, unlike those of non-sapient animals, operates by choice.
And my concept faculty, based upon your previous rantings, says you fit within the anti-human concept of "Nazi" and I respond by saying:
Fuck Off, Nazi!
How many times have you made that request? How’s it working for you? Not a request? Then it’s a pathetic feeble attempt at coercion. It doesn’t work because you have neither credibility nor authority.
Insanity is demonstrated by boing the same thing while expecting different results.
Do you have any scientific or logical evidence to support your claim that animals don’t exhibit choice to cite? I didn’t think so. You, anonymous coward, have no shame.
There is plenty of scientific evidence supporting that animals do make choices. Cites provided.

If non-sapient animals have Volition like sapient humans, then they would also have the moral and legal respinsibility for their actions that individual humans have for their chosen actions
So why don't we hold microbes responsible for malaria? Or bees responsible for bee stings? Or cattle responsible for stampedings and gorings?
Maybe the Israelis should have got Adolf Eichmann's death camp Doberman Pinchers up on the stand with him, hmm?
And if what I say at the end of my post is a "feeble attempt at coercion"-- if an Interjective sentence consisting of a simple request followed by an accurate proper noun of a vile ideology and ideologist constitutes "coercion"--then your definition of "coercion" is as lame and insane as your definition of "choice."
I didn't know snowflakes came in the shape of Sunwheels, Celtic Crosses, and Swastikas.
As always, Fuck Off, Nazi!
What makes you believe exhibiting choice entitles animals to human rights?
We do with animals as we please, our ethics on display.
You’re too much of a coward to admit even to yourself that telling someone to “fuck off” isn’t simply an expression of feelings. It is a feeble command, from you irrelevant.
First you are generalizing. Animal (mammal and reptile) come in two genders. Science and simple observation are pretty clear on that. Now humans can decide their sexual preference. same, opposite or both in sexual activities. That is about it. With "trans" you are talking about a different subject..humans who are rebelling against their biology as conscious entities. I don't know of any other life forms that consciously decide to act as a different gender.
Homosexual behavior occurs in many species of animals (I know dogs do from eyewitness and breeders could probwbly tell you this too.)
As for whether sexual orientation is a choice, I have yet to hear of people choose to be Straight and I'm sure the desire is as unchosen for humans as for other species. What is chosen for humans is how to act on the orientation.
Flatworms are hermaphroditic and have both male and female organs naturally. You can split them apart and have two flatworms capable of reproduction both by themselves wnd with each other. Shrimp turn from male to female as they age naturally. There are many other animals that are hermaphroditic and transition between sexes.
So if its natural why does it need taught in school? I went through K-12 without any of this BS. No sex-ed, no "health" and somehow EVERYONE knew how to make babies and knew what sex they were.
Because it was natural. Why does it need taught again?
Anything that distracts voters--especially female voters--from efforts to force women to reproduce at gunpoint in violation of the 13th Amendment is going to be a welcome deflection of scrutiny as far as God's Own Popolo are concerned.
But don't forget... EVERY sperm is Sacred!
(As you've said, birth control stops a wiggling tail, or even, ten million of them! Is that a wiggling tail in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me? Inquiring Agents of Government Almighty want to KNOW, dammit!)
Put down the crack pipe.
I think it's especially ironic that in 2017 Tim James endorsed Roy Moore, a man repeatedly accused of preying on teenage girls, for the Senate special election. Not only does he falsely accuse this school of exploiting kids and teens, he also supported someone who was repeatedly accused of actually exploiting teenagers.
And don't forget that in the Alabama special election, during which the allegations against Moore were spread far and wide, 48% of the electorate voted for him. I really think that's all the proof we need that "protecting children and teens" has always been a lie. Tim James and his supporters are just bigots. They don't care about protecting young people at all. They're totally fine with electing groomers and molesters, as long as the groomers and molesters are Republicans.
I've often wondered why so many conservatives are hell-bent on promoting the Big Lie that liberals and progressives are grooming children. It's blatantly false, they just keep repeating in the hopes that if they repeat it enough, people will buy it. I'm beginning to wonder if it's projection or deflection. Maybe the conservative movement is so full of Roy Moores that they can't comprehend that the other side might not be. Maybe conservatives know the other side, for all its faults, is less tolerant of the Roy Moores of the world than they are, so they need to spread the lie that it isn't in order to win elections.
Night is day, good is evil, and evil is good! Especially if what we are talking about agrees with the Sacred Stances of MY Tribe!
(And so it goes. So it was written, and so must it be done!)
You are indeed correct.
There is a lot of Venn Diagram overlap between the anti-LGBTQ+ crowd and Religious Fundamentalists who also make apologetics and excuses for the physical and sexual abuse of children such as happens in The Roman Catholic Church, The Southern Baptist Convention, The Church of Latter-Day Saints, Islamic factions that practice Female Genital Mutilation and Pederasty, Hindu India that has child slave labor and feral children, and many others.
This is why I am for 100 Percent Separation of Education and State and 100 Percent Separation of Religion and State.
Consistently applied, this means not tax-funded "charter schools," but letting taxpayers keep 100 Percent of the fruits of their labor and deciding for themselves how to spend it on schooling as well as the whole new world of learning in vast variety of communications media provided by Free-Market Capitalism!
To give just one example, for the cost of a $23 a month Internet Wi-Fi connection, a $40 a month smartphone subscription, and $20 a year subscription to Curiosity Streaming, I have access to documentaries, crash courses, and how-to videos on all kinds of subjects I never encountered in formal Gummint Skoolz or in University, plus free, commercial-funded content from YouTube channels, Wikipedia, Brittanica, and Archives.org!
Abuse of children is much less likely when they are not legally captive audiences of Religion or State and opportunities for learning abound when parents and children alike are both free to pursue them!
Excellent! Kudos to you!
When Tennessee passed a law that not only distinguishes between straight and gay marriage but included no minimum age requirement for straight marriage, the proponents' response was "Yeah, I guess so. How about that."
Of course Republicans aren't against child grooming. Their every move is an attempt to return society to a place where girls are property to be passed around. And they don't even care if you have sex with boys as long as you keep it private.
They care about people other than them having social power, and what's the point of having all the social power if you can't fuck children if the fancy strikes you?
Calling all Democrats pedophiles has nothing to do with protecting children. In fact, they have been systematically making pedophilia into an empty accusation, which can only serve to protect the actual pedophiles., It's just dehumanization. They want their followers to hate Democrats enough to shoot them in the street. That's all.
The only question is whether Republicans are going to eventually give up trying to cram modern society back into a mythological, bygone daddy-knows-best model, or whether they're going to keep ratcheting up the very politically useful bigotry until they're throwing undesirables in camps. This is a recognizable trajectory.
There's always a two-pronged thing going on. The coordinated attacks on teachers and vulnerable students is meant to fire up the lizard brains of their moronic Jesus freak followers, sure, but the real prize is making life miserable enough in public schools that, they think, they'll be able to swoop in with their for-profit model.
Some think the opportunity to privatize another public good and run off with the loot is the real motive, and others think the cultural fears underlie it all. Maybe it doesn't matter. Moronic perpetually hysterical Jesus freaks are easy marks, and somebody's gonna take advantage of them regardless.
It's funny you think government isn't a "for-profit model"...
When it's old-news that government employee's wildly gets paid far better than any others while doing practically nothing for society.
Maybe that's what's wrong with you... RU milking off the Nazi-Regime's pot of stolen money ?
How dare the school take its name from one of Williams' classic pinball machines?
