Unfortunately, Ivermectin Is Not a Miracle Cure for COVID-19
Podcaster Joe Rogan took the drug after falling ill. Here's why it's not likely to help him.

Diagnosed with COVID-19, the popular podcaster Joe Rogan reportedly says that he has taken the anti-parasitic drug ivermectin as a treatment for the disease. Although the 54-year-old has called himself a "fucking moron" with respect to his earlier misguided ruminations about COVID-19 vaccinations and said "I'm not a respected source of information, even for me," he is not so moronic that he relied solely on this drug to treat his illness. He also availed himself of a more high-tech, lab-grown, medically proven monoclonal antibody treatment and steroids to fight off the virus. Rogan has not revealed if he has taken a COVID-19 shot.
So what do researchers know about the effectiveness of ivermectin, approved for human use but best known as a horse deworming medicine, in treating COVID-19? At the beginning of the pandemic, scientists around the globe began testing thousands of existing medications in test tubes to see if they could be repurposed to fight against the novel coronavirus. In very preliminary research, researchers found that ivermectin significantly inhibited COVID-19 coronaviruses in cell cultures.
Encouraged by these petri dish findings, some desperate clinicians began administering ivermectin to their COVID-19 patients. The result was a number of hopeful observational studies by clinicians reporting that ivermectin appeared to be effective—in some cases, highly effective—in preventing COVID deaths. Observational studies are notoriously subject to researcher biases and confounders that can mislead clinicians into thinking an intervention works when actually a third factor is responsible.
Nevertheless, a prominent group of American physicians calling themselves the Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance (FLCCC) combined these preliminary observational and epidemiological studies into a November 13, 2020, preprint meta-analysis asserting that ivermectin "has highly potent real-world, anti-viral, and anti-inflammatory properties against SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19." Among other findings, the FLCCC pointed to reports that widespread distribution of ivermectin in Peru had correlated with steep declines in COVID-19 cases and mortality there. According to the group, cases and deaths began to rise dramatically in the same country after the government ceased distributing the drug.
On December 8, 2020, less than a month after the preprint was posted, FLCCC member Pierre Kory was invited by Sen. Ron Johnson (R–Wisc.) to testify before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. "Ivermectin is effectively a 'miracle drug' against COVID-19," he asserted. (Just three days later, the Food and Drug Administration approved the almost miraculously effective Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for use.)
Kory further testified: "We are in a pandemic. We are at war. Stop pretending this is peacetime where we are conducting business as usual. The NIH [National Institutes of Health] must rapidly review the data and make a recommendation." In February 2021, the NIH did just that. "There is insufficient evidence," the agency concluded, "to recommend either for or against the use of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19."
Since everything that can be politically polarized about this pandemic will be politically polarized, ivermectin ended up being adopted as a therapeutic cause celebre by various talking heads and politicos, most of them on the political right. Most recently, Sen. Rand Paul (R–Ky.) claimed, "The hatred for Trump deranged these people so much, that they're unwilling to objectively study it." The senator evidently believes that ivermectin research has been sidelined by being somehow tainted by former president's ultimately baseless claims that the malaria medicine hydroxychloroquine was an effective COVID-19 treatment. (For the record: Hydroxychloroquine was not used to treat Trump when he fell gravely ill with COVID-19 last October. But the former president was treated with monoclonal antibodies, just as Rogan has been.)
Despite Paul's claims, research on ivermectin's efficacy in treating COVID-19 has been ongoing. Has this subsequent research validated Kory's claim that ivermectin is a miracle drug against COVID-19? It's complicated, but the answer is largely no.
First: Those dramatic Peruvian results are highly confounded. The steep rise in COVID-19 cases and deaths in that country can most likely be blamed on the breakout of the highly infectious lambda variant rather than to a halt in ivermectin distribution. Meanwhile, the newly reported results of a highly anticipated randomized controlled study of ivermectin in next door Brazil finds that the medicine had "no effect whatsoever" on the disease.
A lot of the hope that ivermectin would be a COVID-19 silver bullet arose from the findings of various meta-analyses, including the one conducted by the FLCCC, that combined the results of various observational studies and small randomized controlled trials. One of the more prominent recent ones was posted as a preprint in May by a team of British public health researchers led by the Newcastle University statistician Andrew Bryant. But other scientists have faulted that study for significant methodological failures.
Also, though it's not the preprint's researchers fault, one of the most important studies bolstering their conclusion has been withdrawn because its results appear to be fraudulent. Once the data from that study are removed, the Bryant meta-analysis finds essentially no efficacy for treating COVID-19 with ivermectin.
On July 28, 2021, the authors of a more painstaking meta-analysis of ivermectin COVID-19 treatment studies, published by the Cochrane Library, concluded:
Based on the current very low‐ to low-certainty evidence, we are uncertain about the efficacy and safety of ivermectin used to treat or prevent COVID‐19. The completed studies are small and few are considered high quality. Several studies are underway that may produce clearer answers in review updates. Overall, the reliable evidence available does not support the use of ivermectin for treatment or prevention of COVID‐19 outside of well‐designed randomized trials.
The FLCCC folks are surely sincere, but the best evidence suggests that they are sincerely wrong. The bottom line is that while ivermectin might have some marginal efficacy, it is certainly not a "miracle drug" when it comes to treating COVID-19.
The good news is that Rogan reports that he is feeling better. That is almost certainly due to an infusion of monoclonal antibodies against the COVID-19 virus, not downing a couple of ivermectin tablets.

Cloth medical masks don't work, yet the CDC keeps telling us to "mask up" (without specifying the type of mask-- the # of people I know and see wearing N95 masks is exactly zero).

The good news is that Rogan reports that he is feeling better. That is almost certainly due to an infusion of monoclonal antibodies against the COVID-19 virus, not downing a couple of ivermectin tablets.
It could be that COVID just isn't that dangerous to reasonably healthy people who lack poorly managed comorbidities.
That is almost certainly due to an infusion of monoclonal antibodies..
Unproven and unprovable statement.
Reason!
“It could be that COVID just isn’t that dangerous to reasonably healthy people who lack poorly managed comorbidities.”
So destroying your body with gluttony and indolence can have consequences?
Vaccine's aside it's frustrating that Ron would misdirect/mislead along with many others. We might be able to have more rational conversation if you didn't immediately create friction between folks ron.
Bailey is a just techno-phile establishmentarian, with a slight bias toward individual liberty - which he definitely WON'T let get in the way of his techno-philia.
But other scientists have faulted that study for significant methodological failures.
FYI, it's a good thing that the scientific process is working here, and people are able to look at the data, find fault with it, provide counter evidence. Because if the Biden administration, the DNC and their foot soldiers in social media have their way, even that would be utterly verboten.
I can't imagine caring how a podcaster handles having a cold.
You’re not employed by Koch.
The steep rise in COVID-19 cases and deaths in that country can most likely be blamed on the breakout of the highly infectious lambda variant rather than to a halt in ivermectin distribution.
Are these places sequencing samples for which variant everyone there is actually getting or is this extrapolation from a portion of results (or outright guessing)?
Anyway, I haven't been keeping up with Rogan's case. Do his symptoms justify freaking out like he seems to be doing? Anecdotally, my case was mild/moderate and, while highly unpleasant, hardly cause for going crazy. Is he hospitalized?
And if we acknowledge that "everything that can be politically polarized about this pandemic" will be, who has the credibility to tell us what therapeutics show promise?
And if we acknowledge that “everything that can be politically polarized about this pandemic” will be, who has the credibility to tell us what therapeutics show promise?
Dr. Fauci. Don't you watch the news?
who has the credibility to tell us what therapeutics show promise?
Either:
(1) you get advanced degrees in immunology, virology, epidemiology and genetics, spend hours reviewing the primary literature, and come to a well-informed scientific and thoughtful conclusion; or
(2) you listen to that guy with a YouTube channel who sounds smart, you listen to the anecdotal evidence from your Facebook feed, and/or you listen to the ramblings of your Uncle Fester.
Many people pretend they are doing (1), when they are actually doing (2).
Stop it. There are many other possibilities. Credentialed experts are not the only people capable of having valid ideas and opinions. Experts are wrong all the time. Random YouTube weirdos are almost certainly wrong more often, but that doesn't mean they can't have good ideas or observations.
Collectivist Jeffy is subservient to Top Men.
Agreed, Zeb is right. Many times they are wrong and completely wrong but let's not ignore that we found stuff like aspirin, cannabis without advanced degrees.
What about the people who do #1 and are dismissed as doing #2?
(there is a wealth of humor material building here).
Let me show you a #1 that got accused and dismissed as being a #2.
And that too. Experts disagree. All the time.
And here we see Jeff make the case for appeal to authority.
He’s been doing it consistently with Covid.
Other than Donald Trump he's never met a person in authority whose cock his lips didn't automatically target for sucking like a heat-seeking missile.
I’m not doing either of those Lying Jeffy, neither is anyone else here. But you know that, and lied anyway. It’s what you do.
(2) should read "you listen to THE GUEST (that has advanced degrees in immunology, virology, epidemiology and genetics, and spent hours reviewing the primary literature) of the that guy with the YouTube channel ..."
He isn't freaking out.
His symptoms, he said, were mild. He got tested. That's what I read in the one article on it.
The rest... I don't know much about who this guy is, but I never got the sense he was a "freaking out" type. But, like I said, I don't know him. I hear his name a lot, he's super popular, but I'm not a podcast guy so all I know is the media immediately jumping on this.
I think it's because he didn't toe the party line on vaccines so now a bunch of media is hoping for an "I told you so" moment. At that point, ANYTHING the guy does is going to get reported with lots of pearl clutching.
Well, I am going off the video of him announcing that he was infected and that he was throwing "the kitchen sink" at it. I know that the infection can have fatal complications but simply testing positive to me doesn't seem cause for that. But as I said, I haven't been following beyond watching that video.
Everyone I know who had it and was symptomatic (me included) generally took it in stride. Maybe that's atypical. I guess I'm curious how generally in the current environment people react to a positive test result.
>>throwing “the kitchen sink” at it
hung out on the couch until I felt better.
It's not atypical. If it weren't atypical, then over 100,000,000 people would have either died or been on respirators by the end of 2020.
"Well, I am going off the video of him announcing that he was infected and that he was throwing “the kitchen sink” at it."
That was his mistake. The time to take care of your nutritional status is BEFORE you get infected. By the time you're infected, it's too late for that to matter.
He'll always be Joe the electrician from News Radio to me.
Amazing show back in the day, until Phil Hartman's murder killed their spirit (and Jon Lovitz was a horrible replacement).
They should bring back Fear Factor.
His last name was Garelli?
Sounds about right
Still Stephen Root's best character too - Jimmy James!
That was a running gag. The characters always showed surprise when his last name was used.
Joe Manchin just published an editorial at the WSJ explaining why he won't vote for the $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation bill.
https://www.wsj.com/articles/manchin-pelosi-biden-3-5-trillion-reconciliation-government-spending-debt-deficit-inflation-11630605657?
We're by no means out of the woods yet, but the $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation bill--a fat part of which is a down payment on the Green New Deal--looks like it's in serious trouble.
And here I thought Manchin was locked in and the trouble for the bill might come from the nine moderate Democrats in the House! It isn't time for libertarian capitalists to celebrate yet, but the fat lady's warming up and ready to go.
It looks to me like Biden has squandered his political capital on the blown Afghanistan pullout, and he may not have enough left to get over the hump on the $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill.
>>Rogan has not revealed if he has taken a COVID-19 shot.
doesn't matter. the vaccine narrative died.
So faulty modeling is all good when used to push totalitarian measures but claims no different from those of the vaccine you relentlessly push are to be tossed if you can create a confounding excuse. Got it. Not like vaccine data will have natural immunity confounding issues...nevermind.
Sorry Ron but this was politicized by you leftists from the word go. The lab leak origin couldn't be true because Trump said it was possible so scientists didn't pursue it and possibly validate him. Do you really think other disfavored treatments were handled better or is it possible we're being lied to with limited scope help being "false" because it's not a cure-all while the partially ineffective vaccine is pushed regardless of the risk it poses to some.
I really don't understand why this is political. It would seem that it is not an entirely crazy idea that ivermectin may be effective, even if the initial studies are too optimistic about their findings. Unless it is conclusively harmful, I do not see why anyone should be put out that someone wants try it. Rejecting the judgement of the NIH in not endorsing the studies may be a somewhat paranoid distrust of government institutions, but the way this is being pushed back on by the Left and other elite opinion only serves to feed that attitude, not diffuse it.
the way this is being pushed back on by the Left and other elite opinion only serves to feed that attitude, not diffuse it
Story of the last six years.
Orangemanbad infuses everything.
Yeah, that's the worst part of this. If it isn't effective, then so be it. But instead we get "look at those dumb idiots taking horse dewormer" (with no mention that it is also a drug approved for use in humans). If people are taking horse pills, that is dumb. But people trying something that isn't too dangerous in human sized doses because there is some evidence it might work seems pretty reasonable.
.. some evidence it might work seems pretty reasonable.
Trump mentioned it once, so it’s canceled.
The thing that makes me laugh about Ivermectin "horse dewormer" dismissal, is imagine if we were equally (and reasonably) dismissive of the so-called medical benefits of cannabis.
Horses love their cannabis!
Actually, I am.
Seriously, when it was "medical" here suddenly every 20 year old burnout had glaucoma or whatever. For fuck's sake, don't pretend. Make it legal or don't but there was nothing "medical" about medical marijuana for the massive majority of people with "prescriptions." It was just a government encouraged fraud.
Still don't give a shit what Rogan wants to try. He's a grownup. He can try what he wants to take care of his 'rona. He isn't hurting anyone.
You know some stoners who gamed the system so medical marijuana is bullshit?
Sure. Why not. If you're just going to make something up, go ahead and pretend that's what I think.
I'm dismissive of "so called benefits" that these fucktards were claiming they were getting. This isn't "some stoners gamed the system." It was everyone gaming the system. Because the system was a complete joke, literally MEANT to be gamed. Nobody believed otherwise.
It isn't a prescription if it's just permission to buy whatever you want and use it whenever you want. Prescriptions are for a doctor and pharmacist to control something that might have dangerous interactions or need very specific dosing. So, if you're going to let people go to a shop and buy whatever and use whenever, stop fucking pretending and make it REALLY legal for people to buy and use. It took us years to get there with some states.
You want to research -- really research, with well designed studies, controls, and published for peer review results -- go for it. I mean, it's dope and "known" to have certain effects, but medical research is scant, so you might as well quantify those effects so you know what's real, what's placebo, and how best to use it as a therapeutic, right?
I did do the research. And got my mom to take it for the lime sized hole in her brain where they removed her brain tumor. Her prognosis was that it would start growing back in a year. That was 5 years ago and it’s still not back.
I suspect 99% of the medical argument is utter BS.
Just be honest. It's wanted for recreation. And that is just fine.
No! You can only do what the experts (who all happen to have ties or be in the government) recommend, or you’re obviously a backwards hick redneck from flyover country!
There are plenty of studies out there that warrant at least a good look but to my knowledge this stuff hasn't been formally addressed.
c19ivermectin.com
>>why anyone should be put out that someone wants try it
we kill what we fear and we fear what we don't understand
I do not see why anyone should be put out that someone wants try it.
Go ahead and take ivermectin, take hydroxychloroquine, drink bleach, whatever you want. Who is stopping anyone from doing any of this?
BUT, what many people seem to want, is not just the liberty to take these alternative treatments, but ALSO the 'liberty' to be free from criticism for choosing these treatments.
It is the same underlying issue when it comes to the masks and the vaccines. The real underlying issue is NOT about mandates and coercion - although those are important issues - the REAL issue is that the rest of the world is not validating the choice to not wear a mask or to not get a vaccine or to take horse dewormer medicine as equally valid choices as the choice to wear a mask, the choice to get a vaccine, or the choice to take more effective treatments than horse medicine. The choice to do something stupid is not equivalent to the choice to do something smart. You are absolutely free to make stupid choices, but you are not free to be immune from criticism for those choices.
jeffsarc engages his mind reading skills again, repeating the absolutely false lies of drinking bleach and "horse dewormer" medicine.
This is a tell of those on the far left, and fat jeff is a Biden voting progtard.
He is. And a liar besides.
Yeah but he makes up for it by incredibly stupid and a lardass fat piece of subhuman shit.
Same reason we all feel free to make fun of you.
>>the ‘liberty’ to be free from criticism
lol you must not have gotten your fix of peer pressure in high school
I can't wait to make your fat ass run laps until you drop dead of a heart attack on lap 4.
"Who is stopping anyone from doing any of this?"
The government of California, for one. They'll go after any doctor who prescribes ivermectin or hydroxychloroquine for Covid.
“The real underlying issue is NOT about mandates and coercion – although those are important issues”
No, that’s the real issue.
They go about censoring information like fascists, lying to the American people, sowing distrust and setting the scene for conspiracy theories, and then treat people like idiots for not trusting Big Brother.
Because 2 drugs with hundreds of peer-reviewed studies demonstrating efficacy are exactly like drinking bleach.
Oh also, the governors of a dozen states outlawed both hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin a year and a half ago as soon as Trump suggested, based on the mountains of peer-reviewed medical evidence, that they may be efficacious treatments. So that's who's stopping anyone from taking 100% legal, fully FDA-approved medications you lying lardass sack of monkey shit.
Because ivermectin has been around long enough to be out of patent, and as it's so widely used (hundreds of millions of people have taken it) that it costs pennies per dose. What's more, those extremely expensive experimental vaccines depend on emergency use authorizations that specifically state they're only valid if there is no other effective treatment available. It doesn't matter how effective ivermectin may or may not be--it will not be permitted to be acknowledged as effective under any circumstances because there's too much money at stake.
Yup
So what you’re saying is Jeff is shilling for Big Pharma?
One way or another, he’s usually lying.
Makes sense when you think about it. The only reason his fat ass is alive is because of synthetic insulin and metformin.
Yep. How is this anybody's business but me and my doctor?
+1
Still no mention of the two FDA officials who have called it quits, reportedly because Biden is allowing the politicians at the CDC to take the lead on the coronavirus response rather than the scientists at the FDA.
Just like all the conservative mags who were paid off not to oppose the junta, so was Cato and Reason.
Lol. Nah, they did it for free. Ever since Chuckie Koch decided that George Soros was better bedfellows than Donald Trump every American """"""""""libertarian"""""""""" outlet has miraculously come to the exact same conclusion. This is purely coincidental and not at all because there is literally not one single """"""""""libertarian"""""""""" publication or think tank that doesn't have a flaccid 80 year old Koch down its gullet.
Meantime, it looks like Remy has some competition.
Lol.
"So what do researchers know about the effectiveness of ivermectin, approved for human use but best known as a horse deworming medicine"
My uncle has a mechanical heart valve, and has to take warfarin for the rest of his life to keep clots from forming. It's the best possible drug for it. Warfarin is generally known however as a rat poison.
People with leprosy find that one of the best treatments is thalidomide. Best known for causing horrific birth defects back when it was prescribed for anxiety, trouble sleeping and morning sickness.
Reason's journolisiming is reaching critical in most of it's articles these days.
And at this point, Ivermectin is probably best known as a drug that some people thought might help with covid.
Not among horse owners. It’s currently known as the drug they need to deworm their horse, but are having trouble getting their hands on.
Cawterhorse
Lol, what? I looked it up on Amazon and you can get a tube for $27. There's no shortage of this stuff.
It should be noted that countries in central Africa where use of this stuff is quite common have low covid rates
Mike Liarson got an email telling her to keep saying this, so she keeps saying this. She won’t stop saying this until she’s told to, no matter how many times she’s shown to be stupid.
Really? You really are trying to say there's a scarcity of ivermectin? That old open patent that everyone makes?
I'd ask how much or an idiot you are, but I feel your potential is boundless.
Mike most of that on the new is probably anecdotal. I don't know about Soldier but we are in horse country over here and there's no shortage. None of the ranchers, farmers, and other folk have any issues.
news* not new
Yes, admittedly, the news stories I've read do seem pretty anecdotal.
That might be because you get your "news stories" exclusively from Mother Jones and Democratic Underground because you're a drooling fucking retard whose life is worth far, far less than an insect.
In this specific instance it might be slightly less about Reason's politics and more about their science writer being scientifically ignorant. He lacks critical analysis and adhered blindly to whatever he finds that feeds his emotional biases
That's kinda what tends to happen when your "science writer" has attained his highest level of education at a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy.
"I really don’t understand why this is political."
I think there are anti-vaxxers who are advocating it as a post infection substitute for getting vaccinated.
I don't understand why anti-vaxxers are so often associated with the right.
I know there are plenty of people on the right who are reluctant to get the covid vaccine, but the militant anti-vaxxers of California are probably more likely to be far left types, who are also vegans, animal rights people, anti-big pharma, etc.
I think the left likes to associate anti-vaxx with the right because ir dovetails with their antiscience narrative on things like global warming, creationism, etc.
----Response to Mickey Rat
Yeah, up until this year, I thought it was mostly left-ish weirdos who were anti-vax. Still applies to all the people I know. There has always been a paranoid right wing strain that has been anti-vax, but hardly the majority.
Remember this time last year when all the far-right were adamantly anti-vax. Like Kamala Harris, Cuomo, Newsome, et al? You know, the people sowing seeds of distrust, saying that the FDA was not trustworthy?
https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/california-virus-vaccines-state-approval-73704580
https://www.wxxinews.org/post/cuomo-says-state-will-independently-review-covid-19-vaccine
" if Dr. [Anthony] Fauci, if the doctors tell us that we should take it, I’ll be the first in line to take it. Absolutely,” Harris said during the live debate in Salt Lake City, when she was asked if Americans should take a vaccine, if the Trump administration were to approve one either before or after the election. “But if Donald Trump tells us that we should take it. I’m not taking it.” -- Kamala Harris
SO, yeah. All these far-right, anti-science people wary of vaccines.
Uh huh, and I can show you at least one red state with full-up hospital beds.
Where? Please show us.
https://amp.idahostatesman.com/news/coronavirus/article253905873.html
“At Saint Al’s locations in Boise and Nampa, more than 100% of staffed beds are full, with 20% of Boise patients and 35% of Nampa patients suffering from COVID-19, a release said.”
Hmmm. Yeah, this article is a gem. I especially like this hard hitting journalism:
“Primary Health Medical Group, which has 21 clinics in the Treasure Valley, has so many residents visiting its clinics with COVID-19 symptoms that its clinics will begin closing an hour early, at 7 p.m., to ensure that every patient who is checked in can be seen.”
Nothing says hard hitting crisis like closing an hour early.
Did you actually read this Dee?
What is a 'staffed bed'?
It's a bed that they have enough staff to open.
The issue is people not coming back to work.
“At Saint Al’s locations in Boise and Nampa, more than 100% of staffed beds are full, with 20% of Boise patients and 35% of Nampa patients suffering from COVID-19, a release said.”
If these hospitals are anything like mine, half of these aren't "suffering" they just have it while hospitalized for something else.
And, if it isn't like yours? Sorry, but I have no reason to doubt their reporting.
You already lied about what the report actually said hoping that nobody would bother to check. You have plenty of reason to doubt any of the cherries you pick, because 99.9999999% of the time you lie boldly and brazenly and then double down when you get fact-checked by the very articles you've referenced. Remember how you spent a year and a half on your De Opresso Liber account telling us that the Mueller report concluded that Donald Trump absolutely colluded with Vladimir Putin personally to steal the election from Hillary Clinton? You're a lying, stupid piece of shit who should be shot in the face. You have no value as a human being, you are worth less than an insect.
You said the entire state was full up. This claims suspiciously that a health car provider is full up, not the whole state. You are nothing more than a liar. And stupid one at that as it is easy to catch you at your lies. The comment, "Steaming pile of S***" certainly does apply to you. Everything you say is suspect. The mute button should cover this.
I can provide more articles than just that one:
https://cdapress.com/news/2021/sep/03/idaho-hospitals-nearly-buckling-relentless-covid-s/
Wait, look at this chart of hospital utilization. https://protect-public.hhs.gov/pages/hospital-utilization See Idaho. It shows many Idaho hospitals not being fully utilized. You were lying about Idaho. You are stupid and a liar. I think I read that about you before somewhere on this site.
“ The bottom line is that while ivermectin might have some marginal efficacy, it is certainly not a "miracle drug" when it comes to treating COVID-19.”
So… like masks?
If it were equally ineffective as masks, it would be mandated.
Vaccines
If you say it's a horse dewormer medicine, you are repeating the lies of the far left, just as they make lots of other claims about untruths like drinking bleach, fine people, etc. All hoaxes and they know it.
But as I said above it's a tell, and you can quickly identify the lefties even when they pretend to be libertarian.
Well, it is a dewormer (antiparasitic) by primary trade. I've stuck a number of tubes down unenthused horsefaces over the years for just that reason.
But since it's been around for just about ever, real science has had plenty of time to test and find out it works on a lot more besides.
Big questions are 1) measure or optimal dose and 2) best application method. Looking like an atomizer for inhaled application is the most promising.
The retards taking the horse dose are dipshits.
The stuff is dose in mocrograms per kg in humans. Once. With a repeat dose , maybe, in several months. To kill nematodes.
Take it if you want. I won't even try to stop you. But take the goddam fucking human dose.
Also, calling your doctor might not be a terrible idea. If you trust your doctor you should also let them know the dose you are taking.
Trusting one's physician is an individual decision. They are just people, many of whom are competent, compassionate, and well-trained. Many are none of those things. The ones who are writing scrips for the anthelmintic with questionable efficacy are doing it because they want to keep business, which is fine. Better patienrs get it that way than from an online Burmese pharmacy or the farm store.
I've heard anecdotes of pharmacists refusing to fill the scrip, though.
I really don't know.
..., but this reads like the fact check popups you get on social media sites.
He's already gotten over it. It ALREADY HELPED HIM.
Who are you to deny his lived experience?
If acupuncture works, then Ivermectin works.
Ron Bailey missed the boat on this one. No one ever said ivermectine is a "miracle drug." However, a doctor in Omaha, Nebraska was interviewed on local news and has successfully treated COVID patients with ivermectine.
There is reason India still uses ivermectine a long with a variety of other drugs (like hydroxychloriquine). Also, most of the country's population is carrying coronavirus antibodies (herd immunity) in addition to only 7% of Indians are vaccinated.
Notice Ron managed to ignore the world's biggest Ivermectin study in India.
Here is a link to a database of early treatment studies/papers these should be vetted before calling it ineffective.
India certainly has improved. Is it Ivermectin or natural immunity? I would bet both but put more weight on natural immunity.
It's mostly a disease of obesity and I suspect there are very few obese Indians. At least in India. I've known quite a few obese Indian-Americans
>Ron Bailey missed the boat on this one. No one ever said ivermectine is a “miracle drug.”
There is literally a doctor quoted who not only called it a "miracle drug," but did so in testimony to a Senate committee. The testimony transcript is linked in the article. He used the exact words "miracle drug" about ivermectin and its use in treating Covid. Quote reads: "These data show that ivermectin is effectively a “miracle drug” against COVID-19. The magnitude of the effect is similar to its Nobel prize-worthy historical impacts against parasitic disease across many parts of the globe."
one thing you can be certain of, Ivermectin won't hurt you so why not try it if you get sick with the KungFlu?
Reason Magazine: The drug war must be stopped! It's no one's business what people smoke, snort, shoot, or ingest.
Also Reason Magazine: People who take Ivermectin are idiots and must be stopped!
And get mandatory vaccines!
Yes they are quite the hyperventilating group aren't they.
I remember a day when writers at Reason were sober and serious, but that hasn't been true for a long time.
Ok maybe not sober, but at least they were consistent.
Reason ran an article by some Harvard prof promoting moderate heroin usage as beneficial.
As I said the other day, we went from having to beg the FDA for the "right to try" experimental new drugs, and now we not only have the right, but the legal obligation! FREEDOM BABY!
Based upon reporting that Rogan used a "cocktail" of drugs, this feels like a bit of a strawman. A lot of studies, flawed as they may be, suggest some level of efficacy for Ivermectin. Whether or not it is a "miracle drug", it may well belong in a drug cocktail with things like HCQ and monoclonal antibody therapy.
Since there are already well-known safety parameters for drugs like HCQ and Ivermectin, I am curious why there is so much resistance to their reasonable use. Particularly if we are fans of things like "right to try", and faced against a novel virus that people describe - hysterically in some cases - as a modern plague.
Because Big Pharma is colluding with Big Gov to milk this for all it’s worth? I realize that sounds like crazy conspiracy theory territory, but if the government has proved anything over my lifetime it’s that they love themselves some cronyism.
And the emergency use mandates evaporate if there's a safe treatment.
That's the key and once again Reason plays along.
Isn't this just standard operating procedure for crony capitalism?
I personally do not disagree. The FDA/Big Pharma bloc represent the greatest example of regulatory capture in all of government. If ever there is a conflict between safety and industry profits, we know full well which way they will go.
The two great correlations of those hospitalized for COVID-19, for example, tend to be vitamin D deficiency and morbid obesity. Has anybody seen the FDA or CDC advocate a higher dose of vitamin D or mild-to-moderate exercise as a prophylaxis? Nope, and you won't. Not when there is a government-funded vaccine which relieves the manufacturers of any and all liability.
Nor have they been advocating until very recently for gargling and mouthwashes, two good preventive measures.

WTF
"People in South Australia will be forced to download an app that combines facial recognition and geolocation. The state will text them at random times, and thereafter they will have 15 minutes to take a picture of their face in the location where they are supposed to be.
Should they fail, the local police department will be sent to follow up in person."

The story line of how crazy and authoritarian the Commonwealth countries is not getting any play in the US and Europe.
It's funny that most people don't do the one thing that would really help - lose weight. Unless you are obese, you probably won't get seriously ill from it.
When I had it, I thought I just had a slight cold until I realized while pumping gasoline that I couldn't smell it
Ironically, the lockdowns might end up causing more serious illness because it made people (especially kids) get fatter.
Jeremy thought the same thing when they had the article about increase in covid cases in kids then another article about how child obesity 5-12 sky rocketed last year on here.
Trump wasn't "gravely ill" he was back in 3 days.
Nor have they been advocating until very recently for gargling and mouthwashes, two good preventive measures.
Trump was gravely ill?
ScienceTM must be obeyed!
Fucking love it. Got a drug with decades of use, known effects and demonstrated efficacy against a wide range of viruses, including Covid (by inhibiting the virus' ability to replicate, resulting in a massive drop of viral load - less contagious and less severe immune overreaction)... But we need to take the "miraculous" vaccines, which currently are being studied and already indicated to do nothing for thr ongoing variants. Don't even ask the questions.
Ron, is Molly your sock or something?
2015: “Ivermectin ... taken free of charge annually by over 250 million people ... Its impact on improving the overall health and welfare of hundreds of millions of men, women and children, mostly in poor and impoverished communities, remains unmatched.” https://t.co/ASHeKz5G44
Yep. Facts the world over, until you get to the desk of Miss-information and her shitty red dye. Really looking forward to the crucifixions of Fauci and Wolensky after midterms.
"We'll get 'em next time" said the abject fucking retard after congress just sent a bill to Biden's desk federalizing all of the illegal, unconstitutional election changes willed into law by the Pennsylvania supreme court.
The studies over the last eighteen months indicate that the evidence for Ivermectin as a treatment for COVID-19 is mildly stronger than the evidence for the effectiveness of masks as a means of preventing COVID-19 infections.
Adding Ivermectin to a regimen of monoclonal antibodies and fluvoxamine makes much more sense, based on the available scientific evidence, than having vaccinated people wear masks.
Actually, that's the main problem--the studies all focused on it as a treatment. The problem is that, by the time symptoms actually show up, it's too late--the virus has already run through your system and your body is in crisis mode trying to heal the damage.
What they should have been focusing on was its use as part of a prophylaxis, and studying its effects in countries like in central Africa, where the population tends to use it as a matter of course just to stay alive. This stuff is largely used as a parasite-killer although it does have other related uses. So they should have been asking, "does this stuff help prevent infections from advancing to the stage that they cause physical harm for people who regularly take it?" Instead, they focused on it as a post hoc treatment for people who were already deathly ill.
It's almost as if they wanted it to fail, so they could justify pumping brand-new vaccines in to everyone. How else are Fauci and Drasak going to scare the population into getting quarterly coof shots and annual flu shots if people can just take a bit of ivermectin paste or pills every so often and not get sick?
The problem I have with Bailey's study citations is that they are 'pre-print' versions of studies. Meaning, there has been no peer-review. But Bailey strongly implies they are the definitive word on the matter. They are not - yet.
Bailey does a disservice to Readership relying on pre-print versions of studies to make his case.
As for ivermectin, this is a discussion that should happen between patient and physician. And then the patient decides. If they want ivermectin, understand the risks, and accept the potential negative consequences; then let them try it.
Keep in mind the author is the same goofball who told us the vaccines were "100 percent effective at preventing hospitalizations and deaths from Covid-19."
He never apologized for or retracted this false statement. Joe Rogan, on the other hand, is honest to a fault.
Too late - it has already cured him.
So sorry about your bad lies.
“Meanwhile, the newly reported results of a highly anticipated randomized controlled study of ivermectin in next door Brazil finds that the medicine had "no effect whatsoever" on the disease.”
Actually, that study found that the ivermectin arm had 19% fewer hospitalizations and 9% fewer deaths.
Across the globe Covid has been treated by doctors who refuse to let their patients suffer until the CDC and FDA approve something. They repurpose many drugs and hope something will help. These efforts should alert public health officials to look into any treatment with promise, including ivermectin and hydroxychloroquin in combo with other drugs, but instead we are seeing insults, ridicule, banning and deplatforming aimed at those who even mention it. This is not "following the science".
If there are serious ongoing trials of these drugs right now, Bailey has no business saying "the answer is largely No."
I don't have an opinion of whether Ivermectin is effective against Covid.
But, I have a couple of observations. "High quality" studies tend to be very expensive and time consuming. The effort is worth it when the company funding the study stands to make a bunch of money on the drug, under patent protection.
Ivermectin has been public for years. It is manufactured by lots of different companies, and is inexpensive. Merck and Co. developed the drug, but they have no incentive to do Covid trials, because you can buy the Drug from Indian companies for 4 cents a dose.
Additionally, US clinical trials generally take about six years.
It is not unusual for doctors to use meds for "off-label" uses, if they have been shown to pose little risk and may be effective. Thise seems to be an example of this. The risks of Ivermectin are well understood and pretty minimal in the doses being prescribed. Some doctors believe that it seems to help their patients, and there is little downside in trying it. It might turn out in the long run that they are mistaken.
What is strange here is that even though this is a pandemic, where best practices and treatments are constantly changing, opposition to some treatments is very strong and on-message. People are being shamed and threatened for treatments like Ivermection. It is almost universally derided as a horse dewormer, although that is only one of many approved uses. More particularly, people who have the medicine prescribed and administered by competent physicians are being conflated with some idiot going to the farm store and downing a tube made for a 1500 pound animal.
In a few years, we will likely have very high quality data on what works and does not for treating Covid. Right now, the only official drug is remdesivir, which "may modestly speed up recovery time."
Not if you pay billions of dollars to lobbyists who persuade the government to let you bypass phase 3 clinical trials and safety trials and approve your drug 2 and a half years before short-term safety studies have been completed.
It's quite remarkable, we went from an FDA that takes 15 years to approve drugs for terminally ill cancer patients to an FDA that takes 4 months to approve a drug that is mandatory for 350 million people.
We'll take the medical analysis of a journalism major for what it's worth, Ronald.
Rogan got over Covid in one day; Ivermectin is approved for humans and has been for 40 years and is effective against viruses in vitro. I remember when Reason was an excellent magazine worth reading. Alas!
This aged poorly fast, even by Ron’s standards.
18 months in, and the official experts have seemingly not done a damn thing to find any treatments.
Beyond murderous ventilators, that is.
Seems odd, no?
Look, they’ve tied themselves to a narrative and not you, or facts, or reality are going to make them stray off that path.
I do wonder why so many of the medical establishment do not want the vaccine.
Hospitals et al would not have to require vaccines for doctors/nurses/etc if they were all getting them.
Nardz writes, "18 months in, and the official experts have seemingly not done a damn thing to find any treatments."
Did not Nardz read the article's reference about monoclonal antibodies. Here is more on the subject:
https://www.webmd.com/vaccines/covid-19-vaccine/news/20210826/monoclonal-antibodies-vs-vaccines-vs-covid-19
cytotoxic thinks a 22 year old kid who just finished their BA in early childhood education is a trusted expert who should never have to justify anything they teach in a public school funded by taxpayers, but professional physicians who don't want to take an experimental vaccine are uneducated bumpkin science-deniers.
