COVID Power Proves Tough To Kick
Politicians and bureaucrats are addicted to foisting their arbitrary reopening rules on everyone else.

"One step forward, two steps back" is both a phrase that describes the pace of reopenings in America's most COVID-averse jurisdictions and a dance move that was, for a brief time, illegal at weddings in Washington, D.C.
Beginning in May, Democratic D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser allowed the city's various venues and event spaces to host "special non-recurring" events for up to 250 people, including weddings. As a condition of allowing these large indoor gatherings, however, the mayor required that attendees remain seated and socially distanced. Wedding dances were explicitly prohibited.
Fortunately, a lawsuit from an irate bride-to-be led to the re-legalization of father-daughter dances later the same month. The short-lived restriction was nevertheless part of a trend. The most cautious cities and states tended to slap seemingly arbitrary rules on whatever activities they decided to start allowing.
Take Los Angeles, which in early May reported its first day without a COVID-19 death since March 2020. With cases plummeting, L.A. County's public health department began easing restrictions on indoor events. Venues that seat up to 1,500 people were allowed to open at 25 percent of capacity, while venues that seat more than 1,500 were limited to 10 percent. As in D.C., attendees must remain seated and can eat or drink only in designated dining areas.
People looking to see a show in L.A. will have to show proof of vaccination, but only if they're traveling from outside the state. Angelenos, for reasons unexplainable by science, don't face the same restrictions as their guests.
As Los Angeles was opening up, Democratic governors Andrew Cuomo of New York and Phil Murphy of New Jersey were also increasing caps on larger events. Indoor venues in both states are now allowed to operate at 30 percent of capacity. Events at outdoor venues, where the risk of transmission is minuscule, are subject to a more generous 33 percent cap.
Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test is required for both indoor and outdoor events. And despite all those conditions, attendees will still have to wear masks and socially distance.
The power to make people wear masks even when it's safe not to has been tough for pols and bureaucrats to give up. Consider Brookline, Massachusetts. The city of 60,000 made a point in early May of retaining its outdoor mask mandate, even as Republican Gov. Charlie Baker lifted an identical state-level restriction in response to federal public health guidance saying it was no longer necessary.
All these jurisdictions are moving in the right direction, and these rules will eventually end up in the dustbin. But having the end in sight makes the needless interim red tape more irksome.

But having the end in sight makes the needless interim red tape more irksome.
What end in sight? What I see are municipal, state and federal bureaucrats taking away more of our individual constitutional rights every single day because of Covid-19 Craziness. The turn of corner I am seeing here in America today is a turn toward censorship and totalitarianism.
Censorship and totalitarianism can be necessary you know.
We're currency fighting a plague 1000 times worse then the Black Death, and insurrectionist traitors who launched an attack on Democracy that was worse than 9/11.
We can't let racist, evangelical, uneducated, rural, white rednecks who voted for Trump, wander around saying and thinking harmful things that might endanger us all. We need to temporarily remove these people from society, and properly educate them. Perhaps having them make valuable contributions to American manufacturing and infrastructure in the process.
The Chinese have been doing good work in this field, and they're Xinjiang operations may be worth emulating.
And remember, so called "authoritarian" measures are always libertarian if they're for our own good.
Well maybe not the Xinjiang experiment exactly. There seems to be not enough of a distinction over there between the innocent and the guilty, but with some modification it could work. Perhaps if the NSA had more funds allocated to finding people with insurgent tendencies, it would round down some unfortunate errors.
On a more pressing note, I think some sort of fire extinguisher division of the capitol police needs to be formed first. To prevent another traitorous attack on democracy, that might occur if your measures went forward.
They should just throw HO3 on the crowd.

Another imposter/parody account? Not too bad of an imitation either....
Flashback to Jan 2009 as Mr Bush and "Dick" Cheney were fleeing Washington DC amidst a financial collapse, record low 22% approval rating and 750,000 a month job losses the GOP media kept saying "We will have to see how Mr Bush's foreign policy turns out before assessing his presidency".
Well Iraq and Afghanistan did not "greet us with flowers" and the Middle East has not become an America-worshiping democracy in bloom.
Fuck the Bushpigs. They get a solid 'F' for everything they fucked up. Only Donnie-Boy seems as bad to some but its not even close.
Bush = worst POTUS since Buchanan.
Beautiful one man show you performed.
You do agree that Iraq and Afghanistan were unmitigated fucking disasters?
I posted here in 2008-09 and we had plenty of GOP apologists like yourself back then too.
"YOU JUST WAIT! BUSH WILL BE REMEMBERED AS A GREAT PRESIDENT"
You can't even find a Bush fan-boy on Bratfart.com today.
Same thing will happen to Donnie-Boy in ten years.
The libertarian folks here generally liked Trump for his foreign policies.
Did a Senator Trump vote for invading Iraq or Afghanistan or am I confusing this with a different POTUS? Hmm.
I do recall some neocons with warboners back then. They liked Biden’s votes. Trump not starting a new war? They didn’t like him for this.
Though that was some time ago. Possible SPB1 wasn’t even posting illegal content then.

"foisting their arbitrary reopening rules"
As a Koch / Reason left-libertarian, I'm willing to obey all sorts of rules to help fight the pandemic — mask mandates, vaccine mandates, lockdowns, business closings, etc. Just as long as the government doesn't do something really extreme like close our borders.

JUST IN - Afghanistan's president Ghani is relinquishing power. Interim "government" led by the Taliban to be formed.
The ultra conservative Taliban will get to run things now.
Back to the conservative moisture-maker - "traditional values".
Traditional values suck ass no matter which culture you are from.
Can you believe how well Biden is doing?
Warren Buffett is up $17 billion this year.
I heard you spent Obama's entire Presidency submitting daily updates crediting him for the best economy ever. And you used Buffett's wealth — rather than GDP growth — as your preferred metric. Well, Buffett is doing even better under Biden than he did under Obama.
#BestEconomyEver
Buffett "is up" 19.4 % this year according to your source.
The S&P 500 index is up 19.0% this year. All because of Biden's doing, of course.
Haha idiot.

I'm guessing 'don't fuck kids' and 'don't steal shit' are the two that you object to the most, Plug.

Yes, the ultra-conservativeness demonstrated by progressives when someone transgresses against one of their sacred beliefs is a perfect example of how shitty some values are when not examined.
Hard to have power when you're running to Karzai Airport to GTFO...
If the Taliban are as close to that airport as I've read, they can close it whenever they wish. C-17s don't take mortaring very well, and you eventually run out of C-RAM shells.
One thing I forgot about last night, when musing over the bribe being offered to let our people out: part of that bribe has to be the release of everyone at GITMO, right? The time for KSM to break his neck, falling in the shower, is now. Of course, Mr. 'Let's go on Vacation to Camp David while our Embassy is overrun,' will probably just let everyone go, and rely on the media to cover for him.
And cover for him they will.
Would the Taliban even want him? KSM isn't Afghani and would be more of a problem then he's worth.
He fled to Karachi last time, IIRC. Maybe the Pakistanis still want him?
Though he's probably a wreck at this point. Still in likely better condition than William Buckley was at the end, if the stories about that videotape are true.
Secretary of State Blinken (July 7th):
“We are not withdrawing, we are staying, the embassy is staying, our programs are staying … If there is a significant deterioration in security … I don’t think it’s going to be something that happens from a Friday to a Monday.”
Please expunge that from the internet. Blinken saw exactly what had to happen.

I'm kinda embarrassed to have a PhD these days. [Pic of article titled: "the unvaxed are committing a second holocaust")
"I’m kinda embarrassed to have a PhD these days. "
Reminds me of the old joke:
If one attends college and studies very diligently, one is rewarded with a BS degree. We all know what that stands for. If one continues on, one an earn an MS degree, which stands for "more of the same." And, if one is totally committed to their education, one can attain the illustrious standing of PhD, which, as is well-known, stands for "piled higher and deeper."
From the pictured article subtitle: "Folx"... really? Was 'folks' too hard to spell?
I had to look that up. Unsurprisingly, the virtue signal reference, merriam-webster, has it: used especially to explicitly signal the inclusion of groups commonly marginalized. Having women teach other women matters. Women of color. Transgender women. Disabled women.
So, another made-up by and for academe term to signal virtue to other putzes, poltroons, and assorted useless clowns.
Wasn't "folks" already gender-free?

Just got a letter from them. I pay five figures in annual federal taxes. Someone how a mistake was made with my 2020 return and I owe them about $6 more. Yup. Six dollars. I’m confident that the notification and the processing of my additional payment will cost them hundreds. But hey, I need to be paying my fair share.
Rest assured that letter has never been seen by an IRS employee.

NOW - Clashes between Antifa and anti-mask protesters in L.A.
Check out the Daily Mail. The anti-vax crowd looks like California -- very diverse, both left and right (with a few MAGA hat types). Not sure why antifa would attack their far left brethren, unless they just want someone to fight.
There is no anti-vax crowd. There is no group going around advocating for no access to the vaccine for those that want it.
True
Antifa were wearing masks before it was cool.

There is no doubt anymore they are the brownshirts of american marxism.
More accurately (and color correct) is that they are the blackshirts of American fascism.
For some reason people ignore the fascism of Italy.
Because the Italian people never really bought all the way in on it. Sure, they supported Mussolini, but they half assed the totalitarianism. Lazy guidos never even confiscated the Vatican's riches.
They had their eyes on north Africa and hands full when they invaded Albania.
Hitler had to rescue Mussolini - from the Italians
He beat Churchill in that endeavor.

KABUL—Taliban fighters on Sunday took over the Afghan capital as President Ashraf Ghani fled abroad, triggering a massive effort to airlift Western diplomats, civilians and Afghans likely to be targeted by the country’s new rulers.
. . . .
In a message to followers Sunday, the Taliban’s leader, Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada, urged his fighters to treat conquered cities with a benevolent hand.
“The victories are coming, do not be arrogant and conceited, do not betray the spoils of war, and treat well those who surrender to you,” he said. “Do your best to avoid civilian casualties.”
. . . .
Mr. Biden said that the withdrawal, which was required under the February 2020 Doha agreement between the Taliban and the Trump administration, was the right decision.
“One more year, or five more years, of U.S. military presence would not have made a difference if the Afghan military cannot or will not hold its own country,” he said.
This is as it should be.
Biden did something right. It had to happen eventually!
If we hadn't left on the basis of the withdrawal agreement Trump negotiated and signed in February of 2020, we might never have left, and if Biden hadn't followed through with the withdrawal, we might fighting in Afghanistan forever. Biden is not responsible for negotiating and signing this agreement, and all signs were that he intended to scrap the agreement and remain in Afghanistan--right up until he made the decision to go through with the withdrawal months after he took the White House. No one should ever say I'm against everything Biden does because he's Biden and a Democrat. He did the right things here, and it would have been easy to do the wrong thing.
Biden is still wrong about everything else I can think of.

Now it's the Taliban's problem. Let's see how well they keep order.
Somehow, I don't think that'll be an issue, Roberta. Especially with Massoud long dead, Dostum on the sidelines, and everyone else bought off. The Taliban had issues with the Northern Alliance, after the Taliban's 1992 victory, but there isn't a Northern Alliance anymore. I think the Taliban, and the Chinese contractors soon to arrive, will be fine.
For those few, extremely brave, correspondents who'll be there 30-60 days from now, they'll see a tidal wave of blood and revenge, and that is how the Taliban will make it fine.
Think of how Pol Pot settled affairs after the Khmer Rouge took Phnom Penh.
"Think of how Pol Pot settled affairs after the Khmer Rouge took Phnom Penh."
Pol Pot was deposed by the communist army of Vietnam because the Khmer Rouge's policies failed so miserably.
There was a bloodbath in Saigon when the United States left, but ultimately the U.S. presence in Vietnam was the source of the instability, and Vietnam couldn't progress past that until the United States left. Once we left, and they got the score settling out of the way, Vietnam became a source of stability in the region--as evidenced by the way they put down the Khmer Rouge.
If the Taliban chooses the path of the Khmer Rouge, they'll suffer the same fate as the Khmer Rouge for the same reasons. I suspect the Taliban is more likely to choose the path of Vietnam after we left. After all, both the communists of Vietnam and the Khmer Rouge were ideologically opposed to making a profit. There isn't anything in the Taliban's ideology per se that makes them against making profits from selling their mineral wealth to Chinese manufacturers.
If they're still a danger to to the stability of the region, it's because they're a danger to the Pakistani government in Karachi. The regions where the Taliban has a lot of support across the border in Pakistan haven't been under the control of the government of Karachi since . . . forever. It isn't really a territorial dispute. For the Taliban to be a threat to the government of Karachi, they'd need to try to physically take over Karachi, and that would entail all sorts of other negative consequences.
The path of least resistance for the Taliban is normalizing relations with the rest of the world, letting China build their infrastructure for them, and selling their mineral wealth to Chinese manufacturers. For China or anyone else, those infrastructure investments are predicated on stability. China is also investing massive amounts of capital in building infrastructure in Pakistan. The Taliban would be wise to do as the government in Karachi is doing rather than become an enemy of China and its investments in Karachi.
Over time, bet on the path of least resistance.
Thorough and cogent. Well done.
Not talking about redoing Year Zero, Ken. I'm talking the Taliban butchering those remaining Afghans sufficiently Westernized to not want to get with the program. As they've already been doing throughout the rest of the country, to people they have serious butthurt with. Former Afghan Special Forces, those kinds of people.
Per Michael Yon a few hours ago, the Embassy Americans have all been evacuated and are in places like Doha right now. Thank God.

The host nation employees...? Well...
There's probably no escape for the collaborators the U.S. left behind. That being said, going forward, the Taliban will be subject to the same pressures of any regime anywhere else in the world. If they fail to conform to what it takes to function as a government, their government will fail--just like everyone else in history.
When the Muslim fanatics that originally overran the Zoroastrian Persians in what is now Iran and Iraq, they were supposed to put everyone to death unless they were "people of the Book". Although there was plenty of abuse at first, they didn't put them to the sword. The Zoroastrians weren't Christians or Jews and didn't believe in what Christians call the Old Testament, but the Zoroastrians had a book of their own--and the Muslim armies needed to keep them around to pay taxes to support the army.
So they declared the Zoroastrians "people of A book"--and let them live. For the first few centuries of Muslim rule, their Muslim rulers made it against the law to convert from Zoroastrianism to Islam. They needed that tax money! They protected their religious rights, as well as their property rights, because that's what's necessary if you're going to have a viable government.
Religious toleration is an option, but the negative consequences of failing to respect people's religious rights are inescapable. If the Taliban fails to conform in practice to what is a minimum amount of tolerance necessary for a government to survive and thrive, then they will fail like ISIS failed--and for the same reasons. ISIS stupidly put Shia to the sword in Syria and elsewhere, and once it became clear that for Shia to be under the rule of ISIS meant certain death, Shia were willing to fight to the death not to be under ISIS' rule. The Taliban's negative consequences won't be as extreme, but they'll still be there--if they fail to protect the rights of those they've conquered to the proper degree.
There may be no way of avoiding a nasty stage where the Taliban are free to do their worst, but the negative consequences of their foolish choices will catch up to them. Plenty of dictators try to justify their regimes with the argument that if it wasn't for them, the society would descend into chaos. For the most part, they're right. Pressures like that build up under dictatorships. You can get to a prosperous and stable society on the other side of that chaos. You can't, however, maintain a prosperous, peaceful, and stable society under a state of foreign occupation.
Tito's Yugoslavia was a bit like that. They thought that if there weren't a vicious dictator in place, the place would descend into chaos as Croats, Serbians, and Muslims massacred each other. That largely turned out to be true. The threat of Soviet domination and the dictator may have kept a cap on that volcano, but do you imagine those pressures would have alleviated themselves over time?
If the United States had invaded Yugoslavia, occupied it indefinitely, and installed a fledgling democracy that wasn't considered especially legitimate by anyone outside that government, do you imagine they ever would have come to where they are now--where they mostly respect each other's borders and minority populations out of fear of the negative consequences of not doing so?
Libya was the same way. You can't have a revolution like that without unleashing some chaos. Ultimately, whomever emerges with power needs to operate with some level of self-restraint. Because the people in power are the ones who suffer from the negative consequences of failing to restrain themselves, the less stable they become, as demonstrated by things like slaughtering innocent people, the less likely they are to attract the kind of investment they need (foreign or domestic) in order to have a functioning economy and a viable government.
Libya has 1,200 miles of largely undeveloped, pristine coastline on the Mediterranean. As they become more stable, watch for development to come in. It's the same way with Afghanistan. If the Taliban manages to create a stable society, they have the opportunity to attract a tremendous amount of investment in their mining industry. They have a tremendous incentive to create a stable society now that we're gone.
But Afghanistan could never be a stable and reasonably prosperous society so long as the United States was there. That cannot happen under foreign occupation. And you cannot have a revolutionary government come in without opening the possibility that they could make huge mistakes and create a tremendous amount of chaos. We had experience with that in the United States. Our founders seem to have been worried about the United States descending into Civil War from the moment they founded it.
The way to alleviate these pressures is not through foreign occupations and inflicted democracy. I think that experiment has faltered every time it's been tried since long before Napoleon started liberating peoples at the point of a gun and installing a government to keep them stable. See the Greeks in Judea. Hell, see the Romans in Judea who replaced them. See the British inflicting civilization on Africa and how well that went. I'll grant you that it's much better if people don't need to suffer the negative consequences of senselessly massacring people in order to avoid doing that, but occupation governments merely delay the inevitable and make lasting stability impossible as long as they're in place.
Agree on Yugoslavia but also believe, in addition to Tito and threat of Budapest 1956 and Prague 1968 repeats, the people there had lived generations without their own country being ruled by various other empires until after the Great War. So while socialism sucked after WW2, it was still their country. Not Ottoman. Not Austrian. And an appreciable standard of living discrepancy between eastern and western European nations didn’t start showing up until years later.
They were ostensibly all Slavs but followed three separate religions. Once the luster of “we have our own place” wore off and the threat of a Soviet invasion was gone, they were no longer balkan (balking) at taking matters into their own hands. And not all lived on their team’s side of the shaded area of the map.
I don’t know much about Tito but think Milosevic may have seen himself as the heir.
Yugoslavia was, more or less, the point where Catholic, Orthodox, and Muslim cultures have come together and clashed since they changed the name of Constantinople to Istanbul, isn't it? They may have been spoiling for a fight since nationalism swept the world in the wake of Napoleon when they were under the Ottomans.
Also, I might have added that it is possible to destroy a country so thoroughly that they will accept a foreign imposed government as legitimate, but that generally requires nuclear warfare or sustained aerial bombing campaigns like we saw in Dresden, Hamburg, and Tokyo.
If the Taliban ever collaborates with a terrorist entity to target American civilians again, we might consider nuking them from orbit just to be sure, next time, but I don't think the American people are hip to the mass bomging of civilians these days like we were during World War II.
Given that Biden effectively handed the Taliban the latest and greatest in US military hardware, they may be emboldened to use some of that equipment on its former owners. As we have talked about before, let’s hope China is able to convince them to have a joint venture mining and refining economy.
In other news, world opium production will likely fall significantly.
Yes, and ultimately keeping order is a function of growing the economy, etc., and they'll be subject to the same constraints and strategies that ultimately work as every other society. They'll succeed or fail on that basis.
Meanwhile, they have enormous untapped mineral wealth, and a manufacturing powerhouse that's hungry for those minerals nearby that will be happy to build whatever infrastructure is necessary to exploit those resources.
If the Taliban blows it, it will be no one's fault but theirs.
Hey kept order to their liking last time. Using RPGs to destroy large Buddha statues of antiquity, hosting terrorist training camps (maybe Capitol Police can sign up if it returns) and putting women’s rights in that country back millennia.
We must hope that China can convince them they can keep their internal suppression internally and make money via joint venture rare earth metal mining enterprises.
Lol, women don't have rights
“No one should ever say I’m against everything Biden does because he’s Biden and a Democrat.”
Acknowledged.
I’m no fan of Biden, but I have to give props that he is sticking with the withdrawal despite lots of criticism from the hawks in the Democratic Party.
Lol. Can you acknowledge his incompetence completely made things worse? First he arbitrarily changes agreement timeliness because he can't give trump a win (also weird you criticized trump for this). This his geberals font begin to evacuate sensitive military assets. Then he goes on tv as recently as 3 weeks ago saying the taliban would not take over. Followed by this week trying to blame trump for his own failures.
Can you acknowledge that white Mike? I see you made 3 posts in order to pretend you aren't in protection mode. I mean you still had to prop up biden in this post lol.
Mike can, but only as a mechanism to criticize Trump more. 😉
Exactly. They should base their support or dislike for President Biden on the content of his tweets.
Quite the flashback to see the pictures of helicopters taking off from the roof.
The guy you kept calling the peace candidate dithered for 4 years and killed more people in this senseless war. I guess it takes a decisive leader to actually execute.
The U.S. deserved to lose this one. It stuck its head in a country with a proud history of resistance to imperialist invaders.
Can you believe how well the Democratic Party's base (Silicon Valley) is doing since they took control in January?
Mark Zuckerberg has gained $31,500,000,000 this year.
That represents more than a 30% increase in his net worth in a little over half a year. Say, have any of your blue-collar working-class friends seen their wealth increase by 30% since Democrats gained the White House and Congress?
LOL just kidding! Of course I know self-described American "socialists" don't actually associate with working-class people!

“It stuck its head in a country with a proud history of resistance to imperialist invaders.”
And it’s not like there was nobody pointing that history out at the time the decision was made.
I certainly was back then. In response, I got called anti-American (ok, now probably true— back then, probably not) and got tear-gassed by a cop.
I didn’t see a lot of libertarians at those protests back in 2001. Only the usual mix of dirty commies, socialists and pacifists. The libertarians were too busy attaching asterisks to their precious NAP to attend.
libertarians = the usual mix of dirty commies, socialists and pacifists.
You should have been around in 2009, after all the dirty commies, socialists, and pacifists stopped protesting. We were the only ones left.
You think communists and Leftists supported Obama?!? LOL! Not the ones I know.
Idiot.
Chicago Democratic Socialists of America endorsements in the March 19th 1996 Primary Election went to Danny K. Davis, Patricia Martin, Willie Delgado and Barack Obama[
https://www.keywiki.org/Barack_Obama_and_Democratic_Socialists_of_America/Socialism
Sure they did, because just like you they were tools of the oligarchs. Nothing more.
It's not like they actually believed in a dictatorship of the proletariat. They hate and despise the proletariat.
The people who gave him his start in politics were communists
And terrorists.
Asian military adventurism is like socialism. It will fail, no matter how many resources or “we will get it right this time” are thrown at it.
"The guy you kept calling the peace candidate dithered for 4 years and killed more people in this senseless war."
You seem to be misinformed.
Trump negotiated a full withdrawal agreement and signed it in February of 2019. When the U.S. backed government in Kabul dragged their feet on releasing the Taliban POWs they were holding and naming negotiators to meet with the Taliban in Doha, Trump threatened to withhold billions in aid to the U.S. backed government in Kabul until they complied.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/asia_pacific/afghanistan-to-release-last-400-taliban-prisoners-paving-the-way-for-peace-talks/2020/08/09/74bc3a66-d95e-11ea-aff6-220dd3a14741_story.html
Meanwhile, you accuse Trump of killing people, but from the standpoint of the United States, he brought peace to Afghanistan. We're leaving because of his peace deal. I suppose someone should point out that you seem to be keen to criticize Trump despite his policy of leaving Afghanistan. It's as if you're more concerned about who's responsible for the withdrawal rather than whether we withdraw.
I maintain that neither Hillary Clinton nor Joe Biden would have negotiated with the Taliban to end the war. Their neoconservative ideology would have gotten in the way, but so would their fear of the political risks. If the Taliban had savaged the deal with Trump and gone on targeting American troops, using terrorist tactics, or collaborated with Al Qaeda in a terrorist attack sometime after Trump signed the withdrawal deal, there would have been tremendous political blowback for that.
In order to follow sign and follow through on a peace deal with the Taliban, you'd need to be the kind of president who does what he thinks is right despite the political risks or what the press will say about him or her in the media, and neither Hillary Clinton nor Joe Biden have the cojones for that. Up until a few months ago,
Joe Biden was still criticizing the withdrawal agreement Trump signed with the Taliban for failing to force the Taliban to guarantee the rights of women--as if cancel culture would somehow work on the Islamic fundamentalists who run the Taliban?!
He’s not misinformed, he’s a lying sack of shit.
Whatever unprovable counterfactual you need to believe in to bolster your Trump fandom.
"unprovable counterfactual"
What did he say that was either unprovable or counterfactual?
Do you work for the Democrats or something?
He can't stand all the bad things that are happening to Biden. It isnt Bidens fault.
FWIW, I screwed the year up. It was in 2020.
But that's not even what the lying fuck was referencing, Ken.
The guy you kept calling the peace candidate dithered for 4 years and killed more people in this senseless war.
You mean the guy that the congressional Democrats hamstrung when he tried?
https://theintercept.com/2020/07/02/house-democrats-working-with-liz-cheney-restrict-trumps-planned-withdrawal-of-troops-from-afghanistan-and-germany/
You guys conveniently have shorter memories than goldfish.
The Bush-Biden-Hillary war was bound to end up like the Kennedy-Johnson war a generation earlier.
Thankfully the current POTUS never supported invading Afghanistan. If only he had been in the senate at the time to speak out and vote against this. And later, if he had only been a VP to influence policy to facilitate a withdraw a decade ago. If only…
Yeah, the neocons are sweating. I feel very sorry for those who will lose their lives or their freedom to the Taliban, but it is not the job of the USA to occupy countries forever to stop them from getting the government the local population supports.
Exactly. When the US invaded there I asked if Tibet was next.
Some of the fake, fraudulent, fugazi libertarians of Reason like “Cathy Young” are mad that we’re pulling out of that hopeless shithole, if you can believe it. Oh who am I kidding, of course you can believe that!
Cathy doesn’t support pulling out?
Yeah, the staff at Reason were equally for and against Iraq during the Bush administration.
Matt Welch was neither for nor against it.
Some of them were overt neocons. Anybody else remember Michael Young in Lebanon and Charles Paul Freund?
Back then, there was a diversity of opinion based on some shared common principles around liberty, capitalism, and a commitment to reason and logic. Other than that, once you agree that everyone should be free to make choices for themselves, it isn't necessary to agree on much else, and there's a lot to learn from people who disagree with you.
Reading the articles and arguing about things made us smarter back then.
It isn't really like that anymore.
You don’t realize it, but you are the one who changed.
Reason drinking game is take a drink each time White Mike responds to a Ken post making a statement about Ken.
You have to wonder about he psychological health of someone who obsessively responds to someone who never replies.
It's been months.
If girls keep calling you for weeks and weeks after you stop calling them back, you hope they get some counseling.
Something's not right.
Some don’t have the cawgnitive skills to figure these things out quickly. Fixation can be a problem and progressives are not immune to it.
Yeah, it's an obsessive behavior.
When trolls like this show up, thinking that the reason libertarians aren't progressives is because we're misinformed or stupid, once they've engaged with us for a while, they get to a certain moment where it starts sinking in that the reason we're not progressives is because we're not uninformed and because we're rational. Over time, that falls apart, and they start to question their own beliefs.
White Knight had a moment when she started defending logical fallacies--as if the fallacies themselves were irrational. Then she started criticizing me for being rational--as if being rational were strange or stupid. That's when it became clear that she didn't care whether she was wrong or right. No point reading the comments of someone like that. It's an NPC. But that's the point where the NPC starts questioning its own How come I don't care whether I'm wrong? How come I can't seem to think for myself?
They usually start lashing out after that--like a cult victim that's being deprogrammed, they lash out at their deprogrammers. What if they choose to stay in the cult after that, though? What if they just don't have the internal honesty to abandon their irrational beliefs? It usually goes one of two ways--either they go away or they become permanent trolls. The psychologically healthy ones just go away.
White Knight is electing for self-abuse. She has no point to make, and all she's doing is subjecting herself to ridicule--and humping the leg of someone who won't even read her comments. You can't help but think of the psychological damage these people do to themselves. Think about Shrike that way, too. Why would you keep coming here day after day just to be laughed at, singled out, and humiliated?
Whatever the explanation, subjecting yourself to ridicule and humiliation on a regular basis--just to troll someone who isn't even reading your comments is not a sign anyone associates with a psychologically healthy person. Psychological healthy people do sometimes find themselves subject to abuse, but they don't subject themselves to it over and over and over again on an elective basis. They get themselves out of those situations.
LOL, anyone who mutes me then writes a 500-word essay about me has some psychological problems.
Ken was talking about White Knight. Gee Mike, is that a sock puppet of yours you forgot to login with?
Right on cue, the bird squawks.
Remember how you pretended just the other day that White Knight was someone else and patted him on the back?

White Knight pointed out, correctly, that you are very logical, but quite unaware that you often engage in not seeking out information that goes against your narratives, garbage-in/garbage-out logic, and not checking your conclusions for basic sanity. You should have listened to White Knight.
https://reason.com/2021/07/31/americas-cross-partisan-dalliance-with-eugenics/#comment-9022210
And yet know you're replying to Ken when he criticized White Knight. You're such a fucking troll.
Also, LOL, I often post refutations of assertions you make, for others to see, not you.
And we trash those posts because they are either just complaining or chock full of logical fallacies. You are like the Washington Generals of the Reason comments section.

No you don't.
You either lie about his position or completely misrepresent it. I've never seen anyone argue in bad faith quite as much as you, Mike.
Plus, most of the time you're just flat out harrassing Ken.
Is white Mike complaining that nobody respects it?
Well, that would be a rare accurate post for it
You entire 500-word essay seems to be built on the invalid assumption I am a progressive. I am not. I am a non-partisan, fairly standard-issue libertarian.
The only one who believes that is you, because you lie to yourself. You've done nothing but defend the left and attack the right on this site.
You win the thread for best joke of the day. Lol. Hilarious!
Nobody believes this Dee.
No. You're a highly-partisan, bog standard-issue Democrat. There's not a single libertarian argument in your demagogic little head.
You’ve got to stick Trump’s dick up your arse to establish your libertarian bonafides around here, Mike. Geesch! Don’t you know the rules?
You were not even mentioned in the 500 word essay. Unless White Knight is one of your other accounts? Or you just identify as a troll?
Dee’s a bird brain.
"You have to wonder about he psychological health of someone who obsessively responds to someone who never replies."
You're one of the few things still worth reading at this site, Ken. And you don't parrot the globohomo line. It's not surprising at all why these posters seek to discredit you and your views.
"You have to wonder about he psychological health of someone who obsessively responds to someone who never replies."
So, I assume that is also your analysis of the ankle biters who reply to my comments even though I have muted them for a long time: JesseAz, R Mac, Mother's Lament, Nardz, Sevo, and a dozen others.
No, we’re just mocking you. It doesn’t matter if you see it or not.
“and a dozen others.”
Someone really needs some self reflection.
They post cogent, logical arguments poking holes in your wishful thinking arguments. And yes, you are also called name sometimes.
When everyone else in the room is the problem and not you then maybe it’s not them. 😉
This fixation on seeking approval from Ken is disturbing. Is this the new angle, stalk him into silence?
"your analysis of the ankle biters who reply to my comments"
He fantasizes that it's ankle-biting, but I've seen many of those people post pretty devestating takedowns of Mike's more sophistic arguments.
... the ones he makes when he's not just straight out trying to troll and shitpost Ken.
I enjoy all of their comments Mike. You should unmute.
Lol. God damn the irony.
Everyone thinks you're the asshole here Mike. Youre the one defending leftist authoritarianism. You, sarcasmic, and Jeff have tried to attack Ken for weeks for him merely stating democrats and their public plans are authoritarian. But you 3 can't stand that. You can't stand you helped push the government anti trump lies for 4 years. You were wrong and you know it, but you can't stand it.

Have you been paying any attention?
Getting out of Afghanistan is correct, but the way it's being done is an absolute shitshow that handed the Taliban billions of dollars of working weapons and equipment, has the President publicly begging and privately bribing them to let our civilians leave, and 5,000 troops are being sent back in.
Maybe not coming up with a plan to be out by May than having the embassy parade the Pride flag in front of Afghanistan's population wasn't a great idea.
This. The Leftist pieces of shit that have infested this site are only too happy to conflate Trump's measured, step-by-step timetable for withdrawal---which had planned, military-enforced consequences for breach, and wouldn't have involved abandoning the only fucking airbase the US had a hope of securing against a ground threat----with the complete utter disaster the Biden Administration is fumbling around with and watching. No, this wouldn't have played out the same way under Trump. (Though the aftermath would likely be identical.)
Withdrawal, well before now, is the right thing to do. This is a terrible way to do it, and easily prevented with some adult leadership and planning.
It really wasn't hard,, either.

It’s such a clusterfuck one has to suspect it’s intentional rather than innocent error.
Even not sticking to the agreed May date and doing it now, the way to go about it is obvious and easy to see: evacuate all American civilians, destroy/disable as much weaponry (especially vehicles) as realistically and diplomatically possible, then, after those things are done, get the troops out of there.
They’re scrambling because they’ve chosen disorder. You can’t tell me our military brass, intel agencies, and professional statespersons really expected the Afghan national forces to hold up for any length of time, or even put up a defense at all. Well it can be said,, but it’s not believable.. What’s happening isn’t surprising (not even the time frame), it’s what just about everyone predicted. As incompetent as our feudal lords can be and are, pure incompetence just isn’t plausible in this situation and inadequate to explain the procedure that was implemented.
This.
We should have had all our equipment and allies out of the country before May 1st--and we would have if President Trump had been reelected.
Biden absolutely blew it by stringing things out--and he could have provoked an all out return to war between the U.S. and the Taliban by failing to be out by May. That being said, Biden deserves credit for getting us out. He easily could have kept us there forever, and he deserves credit for not screwing that part of it up.
The reason I despise Biden isn't because he's Biden or because he's a Democrat. I hate Biden's policies. Incidentally, I didn't support the reelection of Trump because I like Trump or the Republicans either. I supported Trump and the Republicans to the extent that I supported their polices and despised those of Biden and the Democrats.
If the Democrats sincerely embraced libertarian capitalism policies tomorrow, I'd support them.
“— and we would have if President Trump had been reelected.”
Unless some shiny object distracted Trump’s meager attention span.
Lol. And Mike gives away his whole ethos im this statement.
"We can't know what would have happened under trump, but he would have fucked up. So give Biden a break"
Damn clown.
You mean like when the Democrats made it illegal for Trump to pull the troops out of Afghanistan?
https://theintercept.com/2020/07/02/house-democrats-working-with-liz-cheney-restrict-trumps-planned-withdrawal-of-troops-from-afghanistan-and-germany/
That was pretty shiny.
Sure, Biden deserves credit for not completely fucking up, just mostly.
How do you think the embarrassing, desperate clown show that the Afghanistan withdrawal became under Biden will impact a decision on whether or not to withdraw from Iraq?
It's going to make leaving Iraq much more difficult politically and much less likely to happen.
Biden got us to our planned destination, but he totaled the car pulling into the parking lot.
Seniors with dementia should not have driving licenses.
I agree that he's made the decision to withdraw from Iraq worse, but I also think that it's in the best interests of the United States to get our of the business of guaranteeing the security of the Middle East, like we've been doing since before Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in 1991.
However, I would argue that the stupid things Biden has done to fuck up the agreements and progress Trump made in regards to bringing Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Sudan, and others into a military alliance with Israel was much worse than (in terms of getting us out of Iraq) than Biden screwing up the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
The whole purpose of those agreements and arms sales under Trump was to create a defensive alliance with Israel--so that we wouldn't need to guarantee the security of the Middle East anymore and they could protect themselves against ISIS, Iran, Assad, come what may. Watching Biden dismantle that work was heartbreaking.
He did it because, like a neocon, he wants the United States to guarantee the security of the Middle East. He ruined the foundation of Trump's plans to get us not only out of Iraq but the rest of the Middle East--and to provide our allies with the means to defend us against ISIS, Iran, etc. maybe even better than we can defend them.
Biden should be absolutely condemned for that.
Agreed
Laughable. Maybe you have a problem with Iran and Syria. I don’t. I want peace and goodwill with them too.
We had relations with Syria until the Obama-Biden regime called for Assad’s ousting and started funding rebels there.
As for Iran, President Carter backed the Shah and the fundamentalists took over the country. It will be a century before the US and Iran can have decent diplomatic relations. Had a few Iranian coworkers and have nothing but good things to say about them.
It will be a century before the US and Iran can have decent diplomatic relations.
Says who? Maybe the Iranian leadership is more forgiving on America’s imperialism and militarism than you think. Let’s hope.
Feel free to visit as an ambassador of good will. I think some here would help with your plane ticket.
Iran is a state sponsor of terror with a terrorist army, a nuclear weapons program, and the ability to successfully launch satellites into orbit using multistage rockets. They're also using both that terrorist army (Hezbollah) and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to attack and antagonize their neighbors.
Whether you want peace with them is beside the point if they don't want peace with us or our allies. I don't know if you ever tested the theory that bullies wouldn't be bullies on the playground if only we weren't a threat to them, but I've never seen that strategy work. Some people just want to see the world burn.
The legitimate purpose of government is to protect our rights, and the legitimate purpose of our military and our foreign policy is to protect our rights from foreign threats. The fact is that Iran is security threat to the American people, and that remains so regardless of whether you want peace and goodwill.
Yeah, and next the Iranians are going to launch a nuke— probably right at New York or something. Jesus, you guys are so fucking predictable. All you have to do is stick an (R) behind some cockamamie idea right out of DickCheney.com and “libertarians” like you Ken are talking about how we have to maintain a couple of aircraft carriers in the Gulf because their government doesn’t like Israel. Well, I don’t fucking like the Israeli government either (I must, of course, be an anti-Semite if I believe that!) so maybe they should man an anti-aircraft gun in my front yard. You can never be too careful.
"All you have to do is stick an (R) behind some cockamamie idea right out of DickCheney.com and “libertarians” like you Ken are talking about how we have to maintain a couple of aircraft carriers in the Gulf because their government doesn’t like Israel.

Your opinions don't seem to reflect facts, logic, or the comments to which you're supposedly responding. Try to keep up with the conversation. The topic is how to get us out of guaranteeing the security of the Middle East, how Biden purposely ruined the efforts to accomplish that, and why Biden should be condemned for insisting that the US guarantee Middle Eastern security.
In addition to your problems with facts and logic, You seem to have a problem with reading comprehension. Suffice it to say that your observations about how I want to keep aircraft carriers in the Middle East has no reasonable basis in a response to my comments about how to get us out of the Middle East.
Did my condemnation of neocons seems to have flown right over your head? Are you one of these progressives who goes around pretending fact is fiction when it suits you. Did you think not wanting the U.S. to guarantee the security of the Middle East requires us to be delusional and pretend that Iran isn't a security threat? Because that's stupid.
You seem to be living in an alternate reality, where libertarians trying to get us out of the Middle East by letting our defense contractors sell weapons to the Saudis and UAE, so they can defend themselves against Iranian aggression in an alliance with Israel and without us, somehow makes us like Dick Cheney, who famously insisted on the U.S. defending the Middle East as a neocon expression of American empire. And that's also delusional and stupid.
Do you really not understand that Biden is the one insisting that the U.S. lead the fight against Iran?
Do you even know what we're talking about?
Are you drunk?
The fact is that Iran is security threat to the American people,
Yeah, Ken, what threat? How about you pay for it by {gasp} paying taxes.
Biden did something right. It had to happen eventually!
Yes. But last week he was boasting about Afghanistan's "best trained best equipped in the world" 300,000 man army. And his proxies are already saying it's Trump's fault.
We should have left after Bin Laden was killed (if I recall the press conference correctly, Obama personally garroted him with a spool of dental floss).
“best trained best equipped in the world” 300,000 man army. And his proxies are already saying it’s Trump’s fault.
They obviously didn't support the U.S. installed government.
They completely surrendered. They deserted rather than fight to save the U.S. installed government.
Why should we try to defend a government in Afghanistan when the people of Afghanistan won't even defend that government?
The same thing happened with the government in South Vietnam. The people of South Vietnam didn't support their own government either.
"The reason inept ARVN generals kept their jobs is no secret, Scotton says. In a corrupt system maintained by patronage, blind loyalty to political bosses in Saigon easily trumped battlefield competence in the selection of generals. The military leadership problem was worsened, Scotton notes, “by the deaths in combat or helicopter crashes of some of the best officers, who led from the front.” Most telling is the author’s conclusion that the South Vietnamese government, our crucial ally in the war, “failed to develop a viable political ideal for which men would risk dying.”
Although most Americans who served in Vietnam were involved in combat against North Vietnamese regulars and Viet Cong main force guerrillas, Scotton fought the “other war,” the counterinsurgency effort (then variously called “revolutionary development” or “pacification”), a grassroots program to get South Vietnam’s population to support the Saigon government. Over the years, he worked closely with a cast of South Vietnamese and American officials, civilian and military, that reads like a “Who’s Who” of counterinsurgency, notably including John Paul Vann, Robert Komer and William Colby.
https://www.historynet.com/failure-leadership-south-vietnam.htm
The South Vietnamese army quickly evaporated against the final push by the North Vietnamese into Saigon, as well.
The ideal of democracy (inflicted on the local population at the point of a gun) against a domestic totalitarian regime play well in the American media, be it about Saigon in 1975 or Kabul in 2021, but that's about what's going on in our own heads. If the people of South Vietnam or Kabul cared so little about the government they were supposed to defend that they wouldn't even fight, then we were fools to fight for those governments.
We'd have been much better off pursuing our own best interests, and, you're right, it stopped being in our best interests to be in Afghanistan once Osama bin Laden was dead. The rest of it was just about finding a president with the balls to pull up stakes and leave Afghanistan to its messy transition period.
"The South Vietnamese army quickly evaporated against the final push by the North Vietnamese into Saigon, as well."
We'll disagree on that. The NVA had amassed a gigantic force with which to invade the South in '75. And if Congress had allowed US forces to continue to fly support missions, or Hell, just bother continuing to sell arms/materiel to S. Vietnam, the NVA would've been killed in job lots, just like they were the last time they tried it, in '73.
This, OTOH, from the Afghans, is more reminiscent of how the Iraqis melted away under ISIS's offensive.
Surely, it's accurate to say that the people of south Vietnam did not support the government of south Vietnam, much like the people of Kabul did not support the U.S. backed government of Kabul.
Because they didn't to be overrun by the north doesn't mean they supported the regime in the south, and if the regime in the south had enjoyed the support of the people in the south, things might have been different.
Defending the airport in Kabul shouldn't have required much in the way of air support, and all indications are that the thousand or so Afghan government troops assigned to defend the airport deserted all at the same time.
Biden is still wrong about everything else I can think of.
He owns a dog.
It's probably a poodle or a chihuahua.
Major is a GSD that bites Secret Service officers. No reports of the dog sniffing young women’s hair.
Agree that Biden is right to get out and the Taliban were destined to prevail but I'm pretty sure the withdrawal Trump negotiated would have been a lot more orderly. The shitshow would have happened but in the next news cycle.
One person stabbed as COVID anti-vaxxers and counterdemonstrators clash in front of L.A. City Hall
Boy, the Chinese sure knew how to hit us with their super bio weapon. Just rely on the capitalist system to be full of dumb and piggy lumpenproles and politicians in a democracy that will pander to them. I mean, a significant portion of the people in the country can’t even be persuaded to take a shot that will reduce their chance of death to 0.00%. They’re smart. We’re pretty dumb.
You don't think that there is plenty of Chinese money flowing to organizations that support these thugs?
No, I think the ChiComs picked the perfect country to attack with their bio weapon.
Aided by quisling Fauci.
All of them?
You child molesting trannies violently attacked people protesting government requiring internal passports and working with businesses to force their customers to take an experimental drug to benefit Big Pharma.
You are a clown.
You see? With people like this in this country this Ching-Chong Wuhan virus couldn’t fail.
You are claiming the ones against government mandates are the enemy. Yes. Youre an authoritarian dumbass.
Do tell us: in which countries did the virus fail?
Weird. It was antifa who stabbed a no mask mandates person. Had virtually nothing to do with vaccines. But you keep pushing that government narrative like a good lil soldier.
Why weren’t city hall security shooting the unarmed protesters in the head? That precedent was set earlier this year. Woke Mike said just yesterday this is justifiable. Or was there a chance they might also hit an anti “my body my choice” protester?
"reduce their chance of death to 0.00%"
Seems I just can't post the facts enough to get through the mush brians. Must be a different shot than the one in the UK where 54% of delta deaths are in the 'fully' vaccinated group.
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/investigation-of-novel-sars-cov-2-variant-variant-of-concern-20201201#history
Even in the US, fully vaxxed (4 weeks after first shot) make up 15% of the covid deaths in May. June will be even higher.
You right-wing fuckheads can’t even do math without politicizing it. 1,263 Covid deaths amongst vaccinated. 163 million vaccinated. So 1,263/1.63x10^8X 109%= 0.00077%. So... 0.00%. Just take your ivermectin and Clorox Scrubbing Bubbles like Alex Jones tells you to. Don’t get confused with math the same way you have with science.
Too lazy to look at the link I see. I gave you the data. But thanks for playing.
Also, that is not how you count deaths. You count deaths by those who actually catch the disease. If you want to count that way, take all the covid deaths and divide by 7.8 billion and you get 0.0005. Still almost zero.
Amsoc can’t make a mortgage payment so math is hard.
Thank goodness that Reason staff worked so hard to contribute to the election of a truly LIBERTARIAN administration! Just imagine how awful things would be if we still had the kind of president in power who opposed lockdowns from the start! /sarc

COVID Power Proves Tough To Kick
The ‘deadly pandemic’ provided a means for government to exert unprecedented amounts of censorship, destruction of the ruling party’s political enemies, and unbound flows of money between picked and chosen businesses.
Covid’s not going away until a new means to continue to enable the US government’s schemes is found. Likely it’ll be a major fucking war, unfortunately.
One step forward, ten steps rearward should be DC’s city motto.
End in sight? WTF Reason? San Francisco just announced vaccine mandate for fucks sake. Los Angeles soon to follow I fear. WTF planet are you fuckers living on?
They are all vaccinated. As long as they get to hang out and drink cocktails and eat shrooms they don't seem to give a fck.
The blog post above literally says, "But having the end in sight makes the needless interim red tape more irksome." Someone who doesn't give a fuck, doesn't call the thing they don't give a fuck about, "irksome".
Ohhh! Irksome. He’s really pissed I bet.

I fail to agree with the opening of the closing paragraph. No, they are not moving in the right direction. I'm not entirely sure the rules will end up in the dustbin.
Uh oh. Rand Paul is swampier than previously thought.
https://www.cnbc.com/2021/08/12/rand-pauls-wife-bought-shares-in-covid-treatment-maker-gilead-as-virus-spread.html
Republican Sen. Rand Paul and his wife had not bought stock in an individual company in at least 10 years before Kelley Paul purchased shares of the drug company Gilead Sciences in early 2020.
That purchase was made one day after the first clinical trial began for Gilead’s remdesivir as a treatment for Covid-19, records show.
The Kentucky senator disclosed his wife’s purchase on Wednesday, more than 16 months after the legal deadline for such disclosures by a member of Congress.
Paul sits on the Senate health committee, which was briefed on the coronavirus threat a month before his wife purchased the Gilead shares.
Good work, jeff.
THIS is clearly the biggest story of the week about a nationally prominent politician messing up. OK, well, maybe second biggest — did #DeathSantis say anything bad about critical race theory in the past 48 hours?
#RadicalIndividualistsForRacialCollectivism
So you do think Rand Paul is a swamp creature.
You retards didn't get smacked around by this a few days ago? The stock buy was after the NIH and WHO both discussed Gilead and the vaccine. 2 days after the press conferences. Paul's wife bought it on her own with public information and not with a significant sum.
God damn youre a fucking tool. You excused Pelosi and her 1 million dollar tesla buy the day before Bidens public announcement of buying green cars for government.
Youre such a dishonest fuck.
Interesting parallel of the lefties here attacking Ken, and liberaltarians attacking Rand.
On Feb. 26, 2020, the day Kelley Paul bought the shares, there were only 14 confirmed cases of Covid in the United States.
There wasn't a person on earth who didn't know Covid was going to be a huge deal by the end of February. If this was insider trading then everyone in the world buying a medical stock was insider trading too.
Want to see what actual Insider Trading looks like, Jeff?
Pelosi bought 1 million in stock in Tesla a day before biden signed an EO demanding all government agencies buy electric. Also meanwhile, the Democratic senators got their coronavirus briefings before the public and sold off millions of dollars in stocks before the crash last year, and faced no consequences and no regulation.
It’s like Jeff is some sort of shill or something.
Would it be wrong to ask where the hell “Sleepy” Joe Biden is right now? However one feels about the withdrawal (and I think it’s the right thing to do), today is a humiliating, embarrassing day for the United States and easily the biggest day of his administration to date, and our half-dead invisible “president” is absolutely nowhere to be found.
Oh, and here’s what he was saying just over a month ago. You have to watch this video. He won’t have much credibility left after this baby circulates around the country for a couple of weeks:
https://twitter.com/JerryDunleavy/status/1426729833296506888?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw
Except at least half of the country will either never see this video, or will pretend they never did.
I truly believe that today is the beginning of the end of his credibility as president, especially since he chose to spend the day cowering and hiding at Camp David, a stunning decision that truly blows my mind. People are unhappy and were already starting to question him already. He won’t come back from this.
It might be wishcasting, but I agree with CockRing here. This looks absolutely awful. The DNC may not make it to January 2023 to pull the plug on this clown.
It's all good, Biden is planning to address the country... in a couple days.
Biden was always a prop whose ultimate fate would be to provide a meat shield to throw under the bus to deflect from the rest of the Ds when they really piss the people off with something.
If they want to squander it on the execution of the Afghanistan withdrawal, and they might have to, that's fine with me.
So Biden is basically a geriatric Roger Goodell?
More or less.
Incidentally, I believe Goodell's father was a US senator
Didn’t know that. Interesting.
Looked it up and he was selected to fill the seat that became empty when RFK was assassinated.
I hope you’re right, but the past couple years has convinced me that half the country can be so easily manipulated that reality has little bearing.
Remember when this was a libertarian publication?
At least half the country is not stupid enough to be on Twitter.
They shouldn’t have to be on Twitter to see the video. That’s the whole fucking point. The media should be reporting this honestly, and Biden’s incompetence should be apparent to everyone.
Echospinner is stupid enough to think his comment would be an effective deflection
Some in the interrogation community refer to it as, “chaff and redirect.”

This morning, the President and Vice President met with their national security team and senior officials to hear updates on the draw down of our civilian personnel in Afghanistan, evacuations of SIV applicants and other Afghan allies, and the ongoing security situation in Kabul. [Pic]
Can you imagine being in Afghanistan waiting on a visa to able to leave while 1 million+ cross our southern border illegally, and with a 20% covid positive status to boot.
Looks like even visa holders screwed

NEW: Biden admin has curtailed the number of flights to the US for Afghans who worked alongside the US as it prioritizes the evacuation of American personnel from the country, three sources familiar with the situation told CNN.
The last flight for the time being of Afghan Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) applicants and their families bound for Fort Lee, Virginia, has left Afghanistan, sources tell me, @priscialva and @kylieatwood
It is unclear how long the pause in flights will last and the situation remains fluid. As of last week refugee resettlement agencies were preparing for a large influx of arrivals & Biden administration officials were discussing an uptick in SIV flights.
By the way - how many freaking civilians did they leave over there while pulling the troops out?
Watch RT or Al Jazeera the next few weeks to look for any stories about hangings or burnings.
Also stonings and beheadings.

Australia is now an open air prison. People are not allowed to be more than 3 miles away from their home.
They can only leave the house the for 2 hours & people get arrested if seen with no mask even outside.
Tyranny will only go as far as you will let it!
Everywhere you go in Australia you have to scan a QR code so they can track your every move.
Keep in mind Australia had 490 cases August 14 out of 25 million & yet they have imprisoned their population in the name of “safety”
[Chart]
Well they started out as a prison colony so it's part of their national heritage.
“COVID Power Proves Tough To Kick”

The Taliban have captured our $700M Embassy.
To be fair, in these Biden-Pelosi spending days, $700M seems like pocket change.
Did they capture our water and electricity bills too?
Apparently, the CDC’s eviction moratorium does not apy in Afghanistan.
In Michigan, the Supreme Court of MI, then the Legislature gave our Bovernor the beat-down she deserved. We won't be doing any of that crazy shut down nonsense, or even masking, here in the foreseeable future.
Cite?
Are you talking about October, 2020?
Found the story. Legislature on Friday repealed 1945 law she's been using as authority. Citizens initiative in the works to repeal another statute from the 70s. Gretchen is beside herself because she's powerless to protect the people from the coof.
Wa...wasn't she "powerless" the last eleven times the Michigan Supreme court weight against her? There seems to be a disconnect between people telling her what she can't do, vs what Whitmer gives the middle finger to and does anyway.
Governor dim whit, more or less, must not believe her state’s supreme court’s rulings apply to her.
And with the gleeful participation of local/regional business and the major corporations, it's going to be even tougher to kick.
And no one has yet explained why our policies aren't systemically racist. It's somehow magically absent from the conversation. Due to "disparate impact", society was "systemically racist" until last Friday. Now disparate impact is something we're pretending to ignore.
James Lindsay got suspended from Twitter for saying that very thing

Possible Impostor Buttplug post?
Real Buttplug never misses an opportunity to praise a Democrat. And Biden is having an absolutely fantastic week according to the WBNWI (Warren Buffett Net Worth Index) — which RB cited constantly during Obama's two terms. Seems like the last thing RB would be doing right now is unearthing irrelevant threads from 2008?
Yeah, this is definitely Impostor Buttplug.

For many U.S. veterans, fall of Afghanistan to Taliban stirs confusion, disappointment and anger
Dear Reason.com libertarian members and former members of the Armed Forces:
First off, there are a lot of you. Second, a question: Do you ever feel like an idiot, a rube, or a sucker? Just wondering. Semper Fi!
That's not very nice.
I don't think American veterans should feel nearly as ridiculous as, just to make up a random example, self-described "socialists" who support the same political party that billionaires want in power.
#BillionairesForBiden
Rich Leftists like myself are getting tired of paying for morons who go fight dumbass wars against poor people in the ME. JC, I point out your contradictions— as a socialist should!—and you still act like a bitchy queen. Is there anything that will satisfy you— besides Trump’s cock in your arse of course?
OBL is living in your head. Do you support overturning the eviction moratorium so you can kick him out?
And pay your mortgage.
Nah, he’s a run-of-the-mill Trumpian goon. Seen ‘em come and go.
Well I’m shocked:

Boy, they’re going ballistic over at Breitfart over Afghanistan. Just a year ago they were applauding Dear Leader for being the peace candidate and then when Biden just actually executes his plan they go apeshit. Poor them.
“executes his plan”
Riiigghhht.
Oh, there will be some execution going on for sure.
then when Biden
just actually executes his planpushes everything back 3 months and leaves like a thief in the nightFTFY
But a senior administration official indicated to reporters Sunday evening that Biden might address the country “in the next few days,” according to reports.
Might. In a few days. What bullshit.
Moment the Taliban Takes Control of Afghan Presidential Palace is Captured on Video
Not a fire extinguisher or dude wearing buffalo horns in sight. Bunch of amateurs.
Did the Taliban erect a Lego replica of said palace before their insurrection?
You joke, but I bet when the dust settles we're going to find they'd been planning this counterattack for years.
Surely they had zip ties though, right?
Zip ties aren't carbon neutral. They're not savages.
It's not just governments that aren't giving up their power, my employer has decided we all need to wear masks again, despite being vaccinated.
If you are fully vaccinated and you still believe we need to mask, distance, etc, than you are perhaps the most anti-vaccine person out there.
Post vaccine, you have nearly zero risk of dying or being hospitalized due to covid. It's trivial. Getting in your car everyday is vastly more dangerous, or being infected with any other disease.
So if you are fearful of Covid after the vaccine, you are orders of magnitude worse than anyone not taking the vaccine now. But all the dems and media care about are the people who don't believe them to be honest anymore, because they arn't
The power to make people wear masks even when it's safe not to has been tough for pols and bureaucrats to give up.
On this, they are egged on by the pajama class and in turn egg on the pajama class. To those two groups it's a necessary visual cue for the hoi polloi that no one is anything but a disease vector, and they need their superiors to keep the dictates flowing in order to keep them safe from life.
Biden’s Presidency is succeeding beyond my wildest dreams.
Yeah, it just depends on what we mean by "succeeding".
Demonstrating that 'experience' is not necessarily a positive, and having done a job for decades no guarantee that one didn't do it incorrectly for decades.
The people really tired because of this situation. https://cupy.net
