Brickbat: Sounds About Right

In March 2018, special forces from India and the United Arab Emirates stormed the yacht Nostromo and seized Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed al-Maktoum, who had fled Dubai, which is ruled by her father, claiming her life was in danger. It was the second time she had run away. USA Today now reports that those commandos found Latifa with help from the FBI, which obtained data from the yacht's internet service provider that helped locate it. The newspaper's sources report that the Dubai government misled the FBI by claiming Latifa had been kidnapped. But they also say the agents who provided that data appear to have violated FBI protocols by contacting the internet provider directly and asking for the information rather than seeking a warrant. Latifa is believed to have been held against her will at the orders of her father since she was captured.

Not one on-the-record source in the original report.
Not one spokesman gave a statement from the FBI, UAE, or any of the principles allegedly involved.
Not one FBI agent is named. Neither is the Internet service provider named.
Even the “court records” are not linked or cited by document date or type.
Where the heck does Charles Oliver pull this story, other than from his butt? Giving USA Today credit for the story doesn’t absolve him from failing to actually read and corroborate any of the details.
This story isn’t a brickbat. It’s journalistic malpractice.

Come on--USA Today is at least as trustworthy and diligent as the National Inquirer.
I don't think that you have to cite in college anymore either. As long as you blame racism, sexism, and/or climate change as the cause of everything, you are in the clear. I had to sit through a lecture that informed me that piracy in Somalia and terrorism in the Middle East are because of climate change. Those poor people can't farm you know, they have to steal.
It is in fact hard to Farm when all you have is a speed boat and several AK-47s. Not that this ownership problem has anything to do with climate change. Or does it?
"the FBI, which declined to comment on the matter"
"The United Arab Emirates Embassy in Washington did not respond to a request for comment. The White House and State Department declined to comment about the FBI involvement or other matters."
"Ongoing investigation. National security. You understand."
“Declined comment” and “did not respond” is not a thing.
You report who you asked for comment, how you asked, and when.
Dropping an email to the FBI press office fifteen minutes before publishing an article, for example, is not seeking comment. Who did you speak to? What office did you call? Who answered the phone? Who said “We decline to comment?” And when?
This is a non-brickbat based on a bullshit article based on bullshit fake sources.
Princess Latifa could be queen one day.
2018? Orange Man Bad. That's all you need to know.
Orange Man bad?!? He BAD, all right! He SOOO BAD, He be GOOD! He be GREAT! He Make America Great Again!
We KNOW He can Make America Great Again, because, as a bad-ass businessman, He Made Himself and His Family Great Again! He Pussy Grabber in Chief!
See The Atlantic article by using the below search-string in quotes:

He pussy-grab His creditors in 7 bankruptcies, His illegal sub-human workers ripped off of pay on His building projects, and His “students” in His fake Get-Rich-like-Me realty schools, and so on. So, He has a GREAT record of ripping others off! So SURELY He can rip off other nations, other ethnic groups, etc., in trade wars and border wars, for the benefit of ALL of us!!!
All Hail to THE Pussy Grabber in Chief!!!
Most of all, HAIL the Chief, for having revoked karma! What comes around, will no longer go around!!! The Donald has figured out that all of the un-Americans are SOOO stupid, that we can pussy-grab them all day, every day, and they will NEVER think of pussy-grabbing us right back!
Orange Man Bad-Ass Pussy-Grabber all right!
We CAN grab all the pussy, all the time, and NONE will be smart enough to EVER grab our pussies right back!
These voters simply cannot or will not recognize the central illusion of politics… You can pussy-grab all of the people some of the time, and you can pussy-grab some of the people all of the time, but you cannot pussy-grab all of the people all of the time! Sooner or later, karma catches up, and the others will pussy-grab you right back!
You can't drain a swamp when the swamp no wanna be drained!
I'm confused, I thought the Reason party line was it's perfectly fine for the government to ask private companies to violate the rights of others. Or is that just 1A rights that of icky Republicans that can be trampled with impunity.
RTFA! "...sources report that the Dubai government misled the FBI by claiming Latifa had been kidnapped."
This is a Government Almighty here that is LYING in order to "ask" for information! Government Almighty here in the USA also (if this report is true) violated their own rules! And this was a USA law enforcement agency (people with guns) "asking", not politicians grandstanding and blathering!
Just wear your mask comrade and don’t ask any questions that have not been preapproved by the White House.
Leave Josh Hawley alone! Just leave him alone! I mean it!
Also, when I point out that Musk and SpaceX blanketing the globe in free highspeed internet might not be all sunshine and rainbows, I'm just a curmudgeon who can't shut up when he's having free shit shoveled on him.
Punishing FaceBook, Musk, and SpaceX, for whatever lies or supposed lies, which random empty-headed foul-mouthed trolls post up on FaceBook, etc. ... THAT will FIX it for us all!
the property owners (the web site owners) should decide!

All that effort for something you can locate with a ship's AIS number.
Yacht NOSTROMO is currently located at WMED - West Mediterranean at position 35° 53' 6.468" N, 14° 31' 15.492" E
It sounds like a classier version of the white trash girl who runs away from home and gets caught because she can't stop tweeting from her iPhone.
I'm sure the 'cell' she's being 'held against her will' in is much worse than her yacht to freedom.
Sorry, "her" iPhone.
The yacht might be there, but where is she and her phone?
In Dubai, since 2018. My point is that it took me 30 seconds to locate the ship. How long did it take the FBI and India/UAE's commandos? (assuming USA Today is telling the truth about this).
Mr. Abattoir, you did find it in 30 seconds but that's because whoever is running the ship *today* has the AIS system turned on.
Of course we don't really know what happened back then, but any marginally competent captain providing transport to a high-profile fugitive would know to turn it off. Real pros could go further and have it spoof a wrong location.

Meh, I wouldn't, would you?
The vacant stare and lifeless grin while everyone else around her seems to be enjoying themselves is... off-putting.
Yes, but I have a pretty generous looks/money ratio. I'm shallow.

First I Look At The Purse
When you describe it as "My job, as prince, is to provide male heirs." it does sound way more palatable. Especially if there are harems involved.
Still the creepy look does nothing to dissuade me from the notion that she'd try to stab us all (me, heirs, harem...) in our sleep.
So, Reason sees the main problem as the fact that the FBI got the information the wrong way, instead of the fact that the FBI is doing favors for Dubai?
