The Center for Global Policy reports more than 570,000 Uighurs, a Muslim ethnic minority in China, are being forced to pick cotton. The forced labor farms are in Xinjiang, the homeland of the Uighurs. Xinjiang produces about a fifth of the cotton used in the United States.

History is repeating itself in that cotton is being picked by slave labor of people ethnically/racially distinct from the people in charge of the camps/plantations where it is being grown. That is the obvious parallel. It may be that picking cotton is just such unpleasant, unrewarding work that free people avoid it at almost any cost, making it always a prime candidate for assignment to slaves whenever slavery exists. Little things like this go a long way towards stopping a death cult without setting up death camps.
