An NYPD SUV carrying Mayor Bill de Blasio to an event in Harlem was going the wrong way  and had its lights and siren on when it crashed into boiler truck. Cops determined the SUV's driver was at fault in the 2015 incident, but texts obtained by a local newspaper found that the head of the mayor's protection detail tried to cover the up the crash. State law requires any collision causing more than $1,000 in damage has to be reported to the Department of Motor Vehicles. But the newspaper found that no report has been filed for this crash.

I have an admission to make. Whenever our resident reverend refers to “disaffected, slack-jawed, superstitious simpletons” who cling to hollow traditions even while they’ve been “left behind by their betters,” I invariably imagine NYC mayor de Blasio and other idiots of his ilk.

It is mostly politicians and their vocal and deluded supporters that I tend to always picture. They crowd both sides of the spectrum and are hopelessly confused by economics, ethics, and even simple expedience.

I guess it’s sad when a troll has influenced your thinking, but it is what it is.

Adviser Daniel Patrick Moynihan, notable as a Democrat in the administration, urged the administration to initiate a worldwide system of monitoring carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, decades before the issue of global warming came to the public's attention.
There is widespread agreement that carbon dioxide content will rise 25 percent by 2000, Moynihan wrote in a September 1969 memo.

The prediction was a little high - atmospheric carbon dioxide in fact rose by about 15% between 1969 and 2000. But that's close enough for government work.

Despite successfully predicting the rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide, actual temperatureactual rise during that period was well under 1F and actual sea level rise during that period was about 2 inches. (Both trends, by the way, within measurement error of the pre-industrial rates of increase as the planet emerged from the Little Ice Age.) So maybe Moynihan wasn't such a hot prognosticator after all.

You’re right. Pretty sure Teddy Roosevelt was the commissioner of police in NYC and later the governor of that state, but never mayor.

Still, it doesn’t stop the likes of “no more soda”
Bloomberg or “no glass and steel buildings” de Blasio from pursuing their dreams (and the country’s nightmares).

The mayor has virtually no control over the NYPD. When Blasio first took office he wanted his police escort to follow the law on the road. No speeding, no running red lights. The NYPD said no, and they would do it their way.
