Police in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, are investigating a viral video that shows a boy begging a bus driver for the local school system to let him stay on the bus or to get off at his home rather than at the bus stop. The driver instead orders the boy out. The video then shows another student chase and beat the boy. In a statement, Locus Grove Public Schools says "The students' and bus driver's actions have been addressed internally."

This is a pivotal moment in this boy's life where he either picks up a big stick and fights off his tyrants, or he is coerced/hoodwinked into relying on an ineffective and stupid system of bureaucrats to "protect" him from such things. When you stand up to a bully it's a coming of age moment. This kid is being denied his passage into the self-respect and courage needed to be a grown ass man. He'll grow up knowing he'll have allowed himsef to be denied the opportunity to right the wrongs and then try to compensate for this by joining Antifa to bash in the heads of strangers anonymously. That's how this works, right?

The kid has to learn to understand the true essence of the situation and channel his anger in a productive manner. He must understand that the bully is a product of a patriarchal toxic masculinity culture and the boy's anger should be directed toward rich old white men who are privileged by such a culture. The bus driver was simply giving the boy an object lesson in what happens when you leave the safety of the collective and strike out on your own in the cold, cruel world, a lesson every woman, POC, differently-gendered, or otherwise non-straight rich white male is taught every single day. Shame on this boy for whining and crying about the bus driver and the bully and the school administrators who are showing him such love and compassion by teaching him the truth about the way the world works and applause, applause for these noble people taking the time to teach him.

Well, maybe, sometimes, but it's easy to miss the forest for the trees in recognizing who the real bullies are. If not for ageism, it would be a sociological no-brainer to see that kids bully each other because all kids are systematically bullied by all adults.

My greatest hope for this young man is that he'll come to understand the numerous ways that the adult world created his horrible situation. I hope he'll fight back by working for youth rights.

As a kid, I towered over everybody but was a gentle soul. (NAP, even back then.) So I got bullied.

One day my parents told me enough is enough. If a bully pushed me, I had to push him to the ground. If he hit me or kicked me, I had to give him back double. If I did not, even kindergarteners would soon bully me, they predicted. They made it clear I would be punished if I failed to fight back.

Maybe it would have been different if I had been at some inner city school with junior gang members, but I found out a valuable lesson. Any time you put a bully in his place, he immediately backs down and that person NEVER bothers you again. I don't know what they teach bullied kids these days, but it isn't that, and that's a pity.

When I was in junior high, there was a kid with a club foot who was always one of the last to make it to the busses at the end of the day when we were all loading up to go home. One day as we were sitting there watching the kid make his way to the bus, another kid running late came running by him and casually reached out and knocked the kid's books out of his hand and then stopped to turn around and point and laugh at the poor cripple. By the time the kid turned back around to get on the bus, half the kids on the bus were piling out the door, threatening to kick his ass if he didn't apologize to the kid and pick his books up. Strength in numbers is an easy lesson to learn, what were all the other kids on the bus doing just sitting there watching this happen?

I dunno if the laws in OK are the same as in NM, but as someone who just read the part of the CDL driver's manual relating to driving a school bus last night, it's not impossible that the driver could have been prosecuted for *not* dropping the kid off at a stop.

Of course, he is also supposed to not let kids who don't belong there get off at the wrong stop either, and is supposed to separate children who are being unruly, or even potentially call the police. I'm not entirely certain, but he probably should have separated the bully from his prey, too.

This seems like a case of policy verse common sense. On the other hand, the policy might be in place to prevent school officials from being with kids at the kids' homes. Furthermore, it's the cops' job to keep kids safe outside of school. In a no snitch neighborhood, or a neighborhood where the cops are busy stopping the plastic straw cartel, it's dangerous to be a kid.

If the driver let the kid off anywhere but the official stop, he and the school would be liable for many things other than aiding and abetting assault. The whole world now revolves around the slightest possibility of a civil lawsuit, because logic and reason have been exiled from the courtroom to the point that self defense is termed assault.
