Republican Party

Resurgent White Nationalism Needs Hearty, Conservative Rebuke

The Republican Party should take a more forceful and public stand on behalf of freedom and opportunity for all.

|

For years, I feared that the political Left's ugly embrace of identity politics would generate an equally ugly backlash, and sure enough we're seeing it take place. I'm not particularly concerned about the bizarre bands of white nationalists who have crawled out from under their rocks to march with their Confederate banners. They've always been around—and they were vastly outnumbered in their latest Washington, D.C. march. They can be dangerous, but their extremism gives them a fairly limited appeal.

But I am concerned about a striking shift in conservative thinking that has moved in a more race-conscious and nationalistic direction. The modern Republican Party has long faced a battle between its paleoconservative and neoconservative wings. The prime dispute had centered on foreign policy: The paleos don't believe that the United States government should be meddling around the globe, whereas the neocons made nation-building a prime focus.

The neoconservatives had the upper hand since the Reagan administration, largely because of the hard-to-dispute threat from the Soviet Union. But the disastrous "wars of choice" waged by both Presidents Bush have helped pave the way for a resurgence of the "America First" philosophy. Donald Trump's military policy is inconsistent and his advisers come from both factions of the GOP, but he has breathed new life into the paleoconservative wing—and not just on military matters.

What does this have to do with resurgent—or at least more visible—white nationalism?

Well, the paleos' admirable noninterventionist stance doesn't come in a vacuum. It emanates from a less-admirable overall philosophy that rails against "internationalism" in all its forms. Hence, we see the Trump administration's focus on curtailing immigration and adopting tariffs, with direct appeals to nationalism. Basically, the two sides have a fundamentally different perspective on what it means to be a nation.

Most Republican leaders, since Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan, have generally accepted the notion of America as an idea. It's a place where individuals of all backgrounds can be free to pursue their own dreams. Under this view, immigrants should come here legally and embrace the basic tenets of society. But, to them, America should be welcoming to people of all races, ethnicities and religions. Likewise, the idea-oriented version of our nation focuses on economic freedom, including international trade.

The paleoconservatives focus on America as a product of a specific time, place and people. In some instances, it has more in common with the type of populist conservatives one finds in Europe. They talk about national identity, culture and, at times, ethnicity. They also mock the economic priorities of the other brand of conservatives. These conservatives rarely speak about liberty or limiting government.

It's not hard to see how the playing field has shifted since the Trump election. Just to be clear, I'm not saying that Trump or his supporters are racist or white nationalists. But some of the deep thinkers on that side of the aisle have views of cultural matters that give libertarians such as myself the willies. For instance, former Republican presidential candidate and commentator Pat Buchanan has long been one of the leading advocates of the paleoconservative view.

Here's what he wrote last year: "Who, during the centuries-long discovery and conquest of the New World, really believed that the lives of the indigenous peoples were of equal worth with those of the colonizers? 'All men are created equal' is an ideological statement. Where is the scientific or historic proof for it? Are we building our utopia on a sandpile of ideology and hope?"

Another prominent and controversial paleoconservative, the late Sam Francis of The Washington Times, argued that "Capitalism, an economic system driven only, according to its own theory, by the accumulation of profit, is at least as much the enemy of tradition as the NAACP or communism." As the New York Times' David Brooks wrote, "There's very little Donald Trump has done or said that Francis didn't champion a quarter century ago."

Recently, Fox News host Laura Ingraham said, "Because in some parts of the country, it does seem like the America that we know and love doesn't exist anymore. Massive demographic changes have been foisted upon the American people and they're changes that none of us ever voted for and most of us don't like." After criticism, she clarified that the remarks had nothing to do with race or ethnicity, but we see how these ideas are creeping into the mainstream.

Obviously, the left has long been fixated on racial and ethnic politics, which has done immeasurable damage to the American idea of freedom and justice for all. I understand why many Americans would push back against a world of 51 gender categories and Critical Race Theory. But you can see why some of us would like to see the Republican Party take a more forceful and public stand on behalf of freedom and opportunity for all.

  1. I remember Lou Dobbs anti-immigrant rants about 10 years ago that got him kicked off CNN. I thought he was crazy but turns out, he was just ahead of his time. Everyone’s got a fucked up agenda if you just dig in deep enough. The Republican Party’s have been exposed. Now the country is going to lurch leftward and we’ll discover our fellow citizens have been harboring some pretty wacky ideas beyond ‘medicare for all’. Unfortunately there is no way to expose them other than to go through the motions. Buckle your safety belts kids.

    1. Now the country is going to lurch leftward and we’ll discover our fellow citizens have been harboring some pretty wacky ideas beyond ‘medicare for all’.

^This^x1000. The other day, I overheard these two women at the pool we go to discussing colleges for their kids and one asked if such and such a school had more females than males, and the other said yes, but so do all colleges because “women are taking over” she cheerfully added. The identity politics leftists thought Obama would bring their ideas into the mainstream but he fell short, so they are really mad and energized, and thanks to the White Nationalists can now easily dismiss anyone who disagrees as racist, sexist, etc.

      1. Mitt Romney was already hitler. It honestly doesn’t matter who the right throws up when everyone is automatically a wolf.

      2. LOL Women will never take over… They just didn’t get dealt that card biologically.

Women have exactly as much power as men allow them to have. And it’s not all brute force, although that could matter too if it came down to it.

Men have the mental traits that lend themselves to dominating societies. More aggressive, more methodical, more logical, more math brained, more inclined to work longer/harder at their job, a million other traits, and we even have higher percentages of geniuses if you look at IQ distribution. Women cluster more towards the mean, with men having more extra higher and extra low scorers. There’s a reason men basically dominate at the top of every single field on earth… Even with all the affirmative action women have had for decades they STILL can’t pass men in important stats.

So good luck with that crazy feminist ladies!

  2. Trump has empowered and emboldened them. You can see it in this commentariat.
It began with his shameful lie about Charlottesville. He still defends them and refuses to condemn.

    1. He’s condemned them multiple times dummy. He just refuses to call every white male a sexist, racist KKK member. Maybe it’s you with the problem. Been to an assata Shakur celebration lately? Farrakhan? Oscar Rivera Lopez?

      1. Calling Nazis “fine people” after Charlottesville is not condemning them.

        1. Or acknowledging that the people who were demonstrating were a mixed bag of groups, many of which condemning as “Nazis” would be a slander.

        2. I mean, you’d have to me a moron of epic proportions to think the only people in Charlottesville were the Nazi’s. Just like you’d be a moron of epic proportions if you thought the only counter protestor’s were International Socialist Antifa.

But then, look who I’m responding to…

        3. He be didn’t that fucktard. Look at the origins of the rally. There were people there merely supporting free speech.

        4. Except he didn’t call Nazis fine people at all. You have to be monumentally stupid AND dishonest.

          1. He is still obsessed with Sarah Palin, what can you expect?

      2. Re: JesseAz,

        — He’s condemned them multiple times dummy. —

Quicking and screaming but, yes, in the end, the child ate some of his veggies…

Trumpistas think the rest of us are blind or something.

        1. Again. Some people actually don’t see every opponent as a racist KKK member like you do. Go read up on the March origins. Just like you claim not all antifa is bad doesn’t mean everyone who marches for free speech rights is a KKK member. I’m honestly sorry you have a mental defect that doesn’t allow nuance.

          1. Trumpsters lose ….. AGAIN

The initial assault, Charlottesvile– Nazis and white supremacists attacking peaceful protesters with clubs
“Alt-Left” standing peacefully, no visible clubs or bats.
Alt-Right Facsists/Racists crash into them en masse, swinging clubs.
Fascists are carrying the same shields as cops in riot gear. The motherfuckers CAME for violence
Shame on Trump and the party who defends him. Giving aid and comfort to the enemy is … treason

These are Nazis, Racists and Jew-Haters. Ivanka and Jerod are Jewish.
Trump threw his own daughter under a bus, playing to the very worst in his base SHAMEFUL.

            1. Dumbfuck Hihnsano and his special pleading.

              1. To those Trumptards who are also racists::
Absolute and undeniable proof = special pleading
If the proof is in-con-veeeeeen-yent to the lies and perverse hatred of “White Privilege”

            2. Your “proof” is a twitter cell phone video?

Rather than, say, the multi-month long independent investigation into the fighting that was done by the state afterwards? The video that stated that the local police forced the two groups together, even after “counter-protesters” began throwing rocks, bottles, bags of feces, and other things at the marchers?

Instead, you use a video highlight reel from an activist site?

              1. OMFG … Trumnptard DENIES absolute video proof … why?

IT WAS TAKEN WITH A CELL PHONE!!

CLICK THE LINIK! It shows the actual start of violence.

he video that stated that the local police forced the two groups together, even after “counter-protesters” began throwing rocks, bottles, bags of feces, and other things at the marchers?

                PROVEN BULLSHIT.

Or …. or …. the counter-protesters stated the violence ..then stood still, waititng fot the nazis to “fight back” (LOL)

                Shame on you.

                1. Dumbfuck Hihnsano with his sad little bitchfits.

                  1. Multiple versions of hihn on the attack.

            3. You have it exactly backwards .Perhaps you did not see any of the numerous you tubes showing you have it exactly backwards . Your statement is one hundred percent in line with the completely false FAKE NEWS narratives . Fake because the video does not support your statement as to who was armed , and who was not .You assign zero responsibility to the mayor who did not send out the police, and to the Gov. McAuliffe who wanted a problem . You also do not have a problem with ,” Whose streets, our streets ” which is really ” My street , and you can go … .”
You ignore the fact the driver was going about 3 mph , until an ANTIFA whacked his car
and probably made him jump. You assign no responsibility to a moron who either walked or stood in front of a moving car .

              1. NEW rigjht-wing psycho – Richard Manfredi! … They travel in a pack, like wild dogs.

What I sad, confirmed just above.

“Alt-Left” standing peacefully, no visible clubs or bats.
Alt-Right Facsists/Racists crash into them en masse, swinging clubs.
Fascists are carrying the same shields as cops in riot gear. The motherfuckers CAME for violence

                Manfredi’s bullshit

Fake because the video does not support your statement as to who was armed , and who was not

Click the proof — of an alt-right psychopath

You assign zero responsibility to the mayor who did not send out the police, and to the Gov. McAuliffe who wanted a proble

Pay attention, dumbfuck. The ISSUE — that your RACIST NAZI President LIED about is … WHO liniated the violence, swinging clubs at the others

*** THE CRAZY FUCKHEAD NEVER EVEN SAW THE VIDEO (SNEER)

You ignore the fact the driver was going about 3 mph , until an ANTIFA whacked his car

THAT IS A TOTALLY DIFFERENT EVENT
THE SAME DESCRIPTION THAT PROVED YOU A PSYCHOPATHIC LIAR

ALSO says that hititng a SPEEDING car … IS AN EXCUSE TO KILL
                (uncontrollable vomiting)

God save America from what Trump has empowered.

    2. The Big Lie from a sock puppet

  3. Love that the article about unwarranted hysterical fear and this one are right next to each other.

White nationalists are prob fewer than any time in history. The media just gives them more attention for their narrative.

    1. Interesting how no call is made for a rebuke of socialism/communism.
Nope, no need for an article on that – fantasy is so much easier to deal with and signals far more virtue

      1. Soave finally was forced to admit antifa may be slightly bad. So reason has that going for them.

        1. Not ‘slightly bad’ just counterproductive.

          1. Well he said it as bad when a liberal innocent was accidentally targeted even if he was only targeted for using the racist symbol of the flag.

      2. And Elizabeth Warren’s legislative efforts to socialize the economy is merely a”big government mess.”

        1. And really only attributable to her. That’s the cute little framing typical around here. A democrat behaving badly? Actions of an out of step individual. Republican behaving badly? Why doesn’t the right eliminate these cancers from itself?!

Roy Moore: why is the AL GOP so vile?
Keith Ellison: Accusations made and 82% of DFL committee votes in support. No pearls to be clutched around here.

        2. And Elizabeth Warren’s legislative efforts to socialize the economy is merely a”big government mess.”

Read that as “sodomize” at first, realized I’d read it wrong, then decided I’d actually gotten it correct the first time.

      3. Interesting how no call is made for a rebuke of socialism/communism.

Then you don’t read this site.

The ditzy Alexandra Orasio-Cortez (sp) and the idiot Bernie Sanders have been the subject of many articles here lately.

        1. If it isn’t one of the headline stories on front page then it didn’t happen.

          1. Just like you’re never met any radical leftists. They’re really quite reasonable.

            1. I never said I never met any radical leftists. What I have said is that most of the left leaning people I personally know are not radical and are reasonable – I have good faith conversations with them from time to time about my ideas and theirs. Same thing with people on the right.

I also know some pretty committed social justice types that I would describe as radical. I’ve never met any antifa types, or any extremists on the right for that matter.

I suppose radical is a matter of perspective, though.

        2. Sure, they’ve been criticized, but how many articles demanded they be cast out? How about articles demanding the same for black nationalists, La Raza, etc? Not quite equivalent in response are they?

          1. It’s the particular vs. the categorical. Chin tugging and tsk tsking vs. pantshitting freakout.

            A signature Reason response.

            \

          2. That’s because it’s racist to challenge non white people organizing for their own groups interests! Even if they think their group is superior to other groups! Even if they’re specifically trying to bias things against other groups in their favor! It’s only bad when white people do it for some reason. DUH.

        3. Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders are called “stupid” but not evil. Stupidity is not an excuse for advocating laetrile as a cancer cure, nor is it an excuse for selling an economic system that has destroyed millions of lives.

Ever since Rothbard in the 1960’s, libertarians have been looking for “Friends on the Left”. News Alert – There aren’t any friends on the Left, there never were. Equality has always been the Left’s true mantra. “Liberty” is used by the Left in the same way a conman uses “cure” to sell you snake oil. People free to make their own “bad” choices has always been condemned by the Left.

The modern Left is a purified Progressivism devoid of reason and flush with hatred of success. Choosing any of them as an ally is suicidal.

Shame on Trump and the party who defends him
Giving aid and comfort to the enemy is … treason

These are Nazis, Racists and Jew-Haters. Ivanka and Jerod are Jewish.
Trump threw his own daughter under a bus, playing to the very worst in his base SHAMEFUL.

            1. Dumbfuck Hihnsano and his special pleading.

      4. Exactly this.

Did the DNC or progressive left ever rebuke the insanity in their ranks?

We get shitty false equivalencies and ‘to be sure’ from Soave at best.

But conservatives – who are not the ones advocating for violence, identity politics and censorship anywhere near the levels of the progressive left – and they have to rebuke it?

        Yeah. No.

They made their beds and now will have to live by their consequences.

Maybe. Just maybe people – call them whatever you want – are calling out the dangerous rhetoric coming from the left.

Am I in the Bizarro world where people are not seeing what I’m observing?

        1. No, I agree.

Trump is a personification of what you are talking about. In all his vileness there is something refreshing about his lack of apologetics, his refusal to be pushed into some corner by a progressive media and high culture establishment. Reagan had some of that same panache, but in a much less brutish and more civilized manner. Few “conservatives” nowadays have that.

    2. Unfortunately the GOP has gone silent in there rebuke of white Supremacists. When David Duke tried to run as a Republican, the party drove him out because his racist views did not belong in the party. These days the party is largely silent about racist views. That failure to step up and say NO this is not who we are and what we believe is allowing the small number of white supremacists to gain a much larger voice. It is also driving away many people that have traditionally supported the GOP.

      1. When the other side paints every situation as racist, you’re going to throw your hands up and stop self-policing.

        1. Basically. It’s a trap, and intentionally so. Every movement big enough to matter has some members who are horrible people.

So they come up to you, point out somebody genuinely horrible, and demand that you denounce them. Well, they are genuinely horrible, so you do it.

And then, as you’re about to get back to promoting your movement, they come to you with somebody else to denounce. And you do.

But at some point you have to either stop denouncing, or one of two things happens: Either they’re demanding you denounce people who aren’t really that horrible, or you’re spending all your time denouncing your own supporters, and none of your time advancing your cause.

So, eventually you just have to blow off the demands to denounce, regardless of their merits. Because they’re a trap, and intentionally so.

      2. Get out of here you Democrat hack. This is Democrat logic: if you’re not pushing for specific rights of what we want than you are against them. If you treat them all the same then you are racist/bigotted/…
Have you seen the racists in the Democrat party? It has now become doctrine.

        1. Democrats have been racists since the 18th century.

They just cannot deny it anymore since they have white racists, black racists, brown racists, and asian racists all aboard for the race to tyranny.

      3. Man, I must have dreamed up that whole scenario in Illinois where a douchebag Neo-Nazi used the bullshit system that fucking shithole has created to get on the ballot with an (R), even though the GOP don’t want him.

      4. You complain of the right for not constantly and loudly denouncing a fringe minority who often vote democrat (a lot of the famous KKK members are still democrats after all) while not complaining of the left for actively celebrating murderers and racists like assata Shakur, Oscar Rivera Lopez, or Farrakhan and even defending ms13. You have strange priorities.

        1. Exactly. Al Sharpton is every bit as vile as David Duke (in fact, you could argue that Al Sharpton is much worse, because his rhetoric has actually led to people being killed). But he is celebrated on the Left, given hundreds of thousands of dollars a year and a national platform by MSNBC and was a frequent, honored guest at Obama’s White House.

      5. While the Democrats *encourage* their own racist views.

      6. Here’s the question: What is a “racist” nowadays? 98% of the stuff people get called racist for is not necessarily racist.

Is it racist to point out that black people are ~13% of the population, and commit half the murders? That Hispanics are ~15% of the population and commit about 35% of the murders? How about that whites are 64% of the population and commit less than 15% of murders?

How about to point out that Hispanics prefer big government to small government by their own admission? Is it racist to point out that if you allow in millions of people with these views you’re likely to end up with more government?

I could go on FOREVER. There are legitimate concerns, that sometimes line up along racial lines… But to make logical arguments based on reality does not make one a racist. I see A LOT of problems from many minority groups, but I don’t HATE anybody just because they’re XYZ ethnic group. But statistical level problems can have statistical level solutions too. That’s just reality, like it or not.

        1. Anything that doesn’t fit The Narrative is racist.

          1. Or proggie.

            1. Shut your whore mouth Hihn. Being able to read statistics doesn’t make one racist, OR an automatic progressive. The fact is that the left is correct that there are naturally occurring “groups” in any society. These can be racial, cultural, religious, economic, etc. But they’re real things that line up along various lines. To realize that class differences, or racial differences, in terms of group interests, exist does not make one a progressive… It makes someone who can objectively observe reality.

              1. My name’s not Hhn.
That has nothing to do with what I responded to.
                So you can’t read
And made a fool of yourself.
                Again.

                1. Oh, Michael, has it gotten this bad?

                  1. I don’t know who Michael is but, yes, vek is that bad, and likely worse.
All the memorized excuses used by racists — but they’re only fooling themselves.

What SAILED over his head was I said, “OR a proggie”
Which means they both do it, proggies and racists. And both blame the other tribe.

                    Left – Right = Zero
As Trump drags America into the sewer he promised to drain,.(Charlottesville)

                    1. I’m sorry you don’t like the facts on this subject. Maybe if you bury your head in the sand the nasty facts will just go away!

    3. I’d hardly call this article hysterical.

    4. Yes, we are supposed to rely on statistical anlysis and realize illegal immigrants pose no threat, but there are suddenly Kluxxers hiding behind every bush

      1. Trrumpsters lose … again

The initial assault, Charlottesvile– Nazis and white supremacists attacking peaceful protesters with clubs

        1. Hey Hihn,

Why don’t you confine you illogical ravings to a single nick? It’s hard to block your idiotic posts when you keep switching handles.

          1. I love it when Hihn goes sock puppet.

            It just further exposes him.

            Hihn – loon = 0

            1. DAMN. You caught me. There can be only be one person who does not idolize Trump.
My real name is Hihn, and I’ve posted here using 23 different aliases

Now that you’ve outed me, how can I atone for my blasphemy against the Archangel Donald?

          2. How do you block posts?

            1. MORE right-wing snowflakes shouting down absolute proof
And JoeBlow123 DEMANDS a “Safe Zone,” the pussy

              Pussies

              1. You got me!

  4. Who besides “white nationalists” are going to stand up and loudly and forthrightly speak out against “affirmative action” and all its accompanying bullcrap… Such as seeing signs by the road to donate to the “Negro College Fund”, but none for the “White College Fund”, and associations at work of Hispanic Engineers, Female Asian Doctors, etc., but none for “Old White Guy Bricklayers”?

This crap has gone on for decades now, and many middle Americans are sick and tired of it, but want NO truck WHATSOEVER with Swastikas and so forth! (Count me among them).

WHO will steal the thunder of the “white nationalists” on this issue, but go no further?

    1. The World Health Organization will steal the thunder of the white nationalists? Seems unlikely; they are too busy flying themselves first class to various five-star hotels around the world for their various conferences on the secondhand smoke crisis in Syria and the alarming lack of abortion access and single-payer healthcare in the United States.

      1. Cool joke bro! (And I do agree with you about WHO).

But WHAT is on 2nd base?!?! And HOW do I get to 2nd base and beyond?

        1. I don’t know.

          Throws it back to tomorrow.

      2. Are you trying to tell me that first class travel to conferences doesn’t solve major world problems?!?

    2. Um, white nationalists are the last ones anyone should want protesting against affirmative action. And in fact they are not the only ones, many many people, including many minorities oppose affirmative action. However the quickest way to ensure that affirmative action is here to stay is to associate it with a bunch of neo-nazi’s and white nationalists racists.

As for advertisements from the Negro College fund… Tough… deal with it, they have every right to raise funds, and to advertise. The fact that you seem to think adds from the Negro College Fund is some kind of threat, makes me think you must in fact be a white nationalist, even if you don’t want to dawn their symbols. Nothing to stop you from starting your Old White Guy Bricklayers fund, and advertising as much as you want. And if it’s to much work to start your own fund, find one you like and help them by fund raising for them.

      1. “Nothing to stop you from starting your Old White Guy Bricklayers fund, and advertising as much as you want.”

Legally, you might be right, in most places in the USA.

Social-pressures-wise, and middle-of-the-night -Molotov-cocktailing-of-your-house (firebombing)-wise, you are totally wrong! If I can’t even be a liberal and wave an American flag at a counter-protest these days, without getting my skull cracked open… See https://reason.com/blog/2018/08…..h-violence “This Liberal Carried an American Flag to Protest Fascism in Portland. Antifa Cracked His Head Open With a Bat.” …

If I can’t even wave an American flag any more, How in the HELL am I going to start my own “Old White Guy Bricklayers fund”, and advertise the shit out of it, without getting skull-cracked or murdered?

Let’s live in the real world, not the legal world, shall we?

        1. Perhaps you should live in the real world and not your hyperventilating one. ‘Social-pressures-wise and Molotov-cocktailing-of-your-house-wise’ are just BS excuses for lazy entitledness and you know it. Far easier to sit one’s fatoldass on a couch and rail at the TV.

That said I do realize that it’s still an uphill struggle. America came within a nanosecond of seeing a handoff of power from the Black Panthers and Nation of Islam Prez to the ugly warmongering Wall St version of Jane Fonda in a muumuu. Or yeesh Stalin’s red diaper baby grown into dotage. If that had happened – well – all us white guys might as well kiss our country goodbye forever.

You know – I think I better sit my fat ass back down on the couch and root for Trump to do something. This could still go either way. Stelllla – get me a fucking beer.

          1. Too each his own…

Speaking for my own fatoldass, I am SOOOO pissed at Der TrumpfenFuhrer and His spineless GOP lackeys in Congress, for getting us in an utterly stupid trade war, I am (as of the moment, may change my mind) going to and vote Democrat this fall, for the first time in like 30 years or so!

    3. “Who besides “white nationalists” are going to stand up and loudly and forthrightly speak out against “affirmative action” and all its accompanying bullcrap”

      Chinese Americans.

      They don’t have White Guilt.

      Down with the Baizuo!

    4. Totally correct. The propaganda and social pressure have been so biased against white people even being able to talk about a lot of BS issues, because they’ll get called racist, that even sane NON RACIST people who bring it up have their lives ruined. That shit is all collapsing now though. People have had enough, and the issues are just going to keep being brought up until they get addressed. These ideas are being re-mainstreamed, because they can’t be ignored anymore. The left never wanted equal opportunity for minorities/women, they wanted stuff slanted in their direction. And it is, legally and socially… But probably not for long.

    5. Who besides “white nationalists” are going to stand up and loudly and forthrightly speak out against “affirmative action”

      Libertarians. For decades.

Unlike the phonies who demand special exemptions, for only certain religious
      1) They ACCEPT affirmative action
      2) They VIOLATE the constitutional separation of Church and State,

      1. Well, like it or not religion is a special category in the Constitution. Unlike all the other affirmative action nonsense. Personally I’d throw it all out to get back to TRUE freedom of association where people didn’t have to be worried to hire employees based upon merit, because they didn’t have enough women/the correct racial mix, etc.

        1. Non-responsive. Diversion. (Wrong issue)
There can be no special rights based on religion.
          Learn the 14th Amendment.

  5. Spend a little time (it won’t take much) reading the comments section of the Washington Post in any article about immigrants, police shootings, or Trump, and you’ll find out that anyone who is not a Democrat is a white nationalist, and also a racist, misogynistic, homophobic Nazi. The Democrats know.

    1. WaPo commenters are freaking animals

      1. Yep. Not just the commenters-the WaPo editorial staff and writers now make the NYT seem somewhat reasonable-never thought I would say that.

    2. Re: JerryB,

I’ve read the comment sections of Daily Caller, Townhall and Breitbart for years until I just couldn’t anymore. Libertarians KNOW who is behind this wave of “white pride”.

      1. Daily Caller, Townhall and Breitbart

        Add Stormfront to that list.

        1. Agreed. The lefty trolls are the utter worst there.

        2. So you admit that the Washington Post and the New York Times are now at the same level as the Daily Caller, Townhall, Breitbart, Stormfront, Democratic Underground and the Daily Kos?

          1. Hell no. The Post and NY Times are our best news sources.

I don’t read their comment sections.

            1. Just ask jayson blair and davey weigel. Impeccable sources.

            2. Is this the same new York times who admitted to pushing north Korea propaganda during the Olympics? Who wrote about the great sex under communist Russia? No wonder you’re barely functional.

            3. PBS, BBC, and FOX

          2. Remember when it was admitted all the major news media had embedded CIA operatives/agents within the organizations?

            1. I do! But nobody else seems to like to remember that fact anymore, because it’s not en vogue.

    3. You might be surprised by this, but it’s the exact same way with conservative commentators, only that their targets are (supposed) communists, feminists and immigrants.

You’ve got a huge partisan issue in the US, and Trump has just been its prelude.

          1. Hihn – loon = 0

Third time I’ve see the same comment.

        2. The REAL question is: What is wrong with beating communists in the street anyway? History shows that fascists are assholes… But far less of assholes than communists. The death count speaks for itself!

          1. The REAL question is: What is wrong with beating communists in the street anyway?

I like to call it our Constitution.
NOBODY has any right to assault anyone.

  6. OH MY FUCKING WORD is this magazine just a gigantic troll at this point? Seriously, are these guys taking bets with each other about what they can put into their pieces, perhaps daring each other or whatever like that one Steve Martin movie where he is an Elmer Gantry figure whose staff bet him every night to work various preposterous phrases into his sermons?

    1. And yet we still take it.

Actually, I’m done with this hysterical WaPo-level bullshit. No more time on this shit-site — see you on Reasonoids.

To the Nazi Tony, the butt-plugger and drooling idiot Hihn, Go. Fuck. Yourselves.

      1. It’s a libertarian publication.
Stay with Breitbart, Fox, Infowars, WND and Stormfront.
We even defend YOUR right to do so. Because we’re not you.

  7. But some of the deep thinkers on that side of the aisle have views of cultural matters that give libertarians such as myself the willies. For instance, former Republican presidential candidate and commentator Pat Buchanan has long been one of the leading advocates of the paleoconservative view.

It is the mind-numbing adherence to evangelical Christianity that gives me the willies about conservatives. As a straight while male from the South I should be a Republican but I shucked all superstition (free minds and free markets) a long time ago.

William Buckley was an eloquent spokesman for conservatism but even he said its basis was Christianity and duty. Conservatives since then don’t have his polish but instead are just hucksters and con men.

    1. Buckley was a con man with fake accent.

      1. What was his “real” accent? Did he sound like a longshoreman from Newark when the live feed cut away?

It’s certainly an accent unique to him, a sort of bespoke variety of Stage Transatlantic. But I’d always chalked that up to his peripatetic childhood (he’s from Mexico; his first language was Spanish and his second French). Kids who become conscious of the desirability of modifying one’s accent, but who are nonetheless still young enough to do so “natively” (as often happens, say, with a bright and ambitious kid who moves to a new place at the correct age), can thereby end up with an (often somewhat unique) way of speaking that is at once deliberately acquired and “native.” These end up often being quite sui generis like Buckley’s; a less odd variant is Ryan Gosling’s somewhat East Coast-influenced American accent, which he describes deliberately cultivating to blend in and sound “tough” instead of weird and Canadian. Buckley went a bit higher-class–and no one ever accused the upper classes of lacking eccentricity, so so much the better.

        1. His brothers sounded like normal guys from CT.

    2. Democrats are just as religious, they simply replaced god with central government. They even practice intelligent design as preferred policy.

  8. “obviously the left has long been fixated on racial and ethnic politics, which has done immeasurable damage to the American idea of freedom and justice for all. but how dare white people on the right organize in the same fashion. That must not be allowed. Only minorities on the left can do that.

    1. Which immediately casts the argument in terms of political left vs political right. That’s been such an effective approach for the last 150 years, after all.
The enemy is ‘racial and ethnic politics’, not which political wing is organizing on those lines.
      Principles matter, principals do not.

      1. Yeah, apparently you’ve lost that debate I’m afraid.

    2. That double standard is due to the propensity of white nationalists to exclude non-whites. Like “no blacks allowed” in our neighborhood, stores, or schools.

      1. You mean those neighborhoods that were told by the government they had to put those signs up? Or is it the neighborhoods where if you fought against that government mandate, government employees would cover their faces and burn your place of business and harass you?

        1. I had to puzzle over your remarks… And then I figured it out!

Yes, liberals especially (but people in general) ignore, or don’t know, that black-people-tolerant whites in the deep south WERE NOT ALLOWED, BY THE LOCAL GOVERNMENTS, to treat blacks equally in their businesses!!!

Anti-segregation change came at the behest of the feds against the local governments, but it is WAAAY entirely too easily forgotten that LOCAL GOVERNMENT had blood all over its hands!!! Government in general is NOT the best way to fix things!

      2. Congressional black caucus not only exluded whites, they also exclude wrong thinking black people. Double plus good right?

        1. Shhh, don’t mention that! It’s okay for everybody but whites to organize along racial lines, as long as whites don’t do it themselves in a nation where they’re rapidly becoming the minority! In short all minorities, except whites where they’re the minority, are allowed to fight for their group interests. Don’t question it.

    3. Who do you go from “has done immeasurable damage to the American idea of freedom and justice for all” to “Only minorities on the left can do that”?

      1. Because only whites must be denounced, castigated and cast out for it per the author. It doesn’t matter how much damage such views from minorities on the left have caused. They’re bad, but acceptable. Those evil whites are the problem.

        1. Well, Kivlor, there *is* a difference when whites do it, vs. when non-whites do it.

Whites were never enslaved in this country based on skin color, and whites were never kicked out of this country based on skin color.

A lot of these identity politics-type organizations among racial minorities started out with a goal of protecting and preserving those rights for racial minorities, in the face of a racial majority which was hostile to acknowledging those rights. You can certainly argue that they’ve gone too far today, but their initial goals were laudable.

Besides we’ve already seen what white identity politics looks like – it’s the KKK. The major reason why the KKK was so terrible, and not just laughed off the stage as kooks in sheets, is because at the time, the KKK had institutions of state power behind them, either formally or informally. KKK chapters would terrorize and kill blacks, and local law enforcement would do next to nothing about it. So given these circumstances, I think it is completely understandable for organizations to arise to protect blacks, and other minorities, from such systemic violations of their rights based on their skin color. What comparable justification is there for white identity politics groups of today? Is La Raza terrorizing and killing whites based on skin color? I don’t see any sort of justification for white identity politics today, the way that there was for black or minority identity politics of the past.

          1. Because it hasn’t risen to the level of state sanctioned discrimination (well aside from affirmative action quotas), it’s not that bad. And of course it could never rise to that level because reasons.

On the other hand 20 guys showing up at a rally is a great cause for concern.

            The logic is irrefutable.

            1. I never said 20 guys at a rally is a “great cause for concern”.

And affirmative action QUOTAS have been illegal for some time now.

But, go back not that many years, and there would be actual laws which forbad the hiring of people of certain races in certain types of jobs. Which was tantamount to affirmative action quotas for whites.

Past: Whites got affirmative action quotas. Minorities protest and get the law changed.
Present: Minorities don’t get affirmative action quotas, but conservatives freak out as if they do.

All I’m asking is for you to look at it from their point of view, not to agree with it. Incidentally I am opposed to affirmative action myself. I think a race-blind, color-blind society is the way to go. But it is going to be a harder sell to all parties concerned than anyone here is willing to admit.

              1. All I can say Jeff is that you are beyond deluded if you think minorities don’t get special consideration in hiring, especially at the government level.

Reason even featured an article decrying the nonsense that “diversity goals” are not “racial quotas” by another name just last April.

When even Reason agrees that racial quotas exist, it’s time to give up your fantasies about Affirmative Action….

                1. They do get special consideration. They don’t get de jure quotas. Whether there are de facto quotas is another question entirely.

Nevertheless, whatever you think of affirmative action today, it is far weaker than the affirmative action for whites that this country had just a few decades ago. And yet many on the right freak out as if they are exactly the same. That is part of the disconnect that is occurring.

                  1. So your argument basically boils down to “Hey, because your great-grandfather may have benefitted from Jim Crow a century ago you deserve to be discriminated against today. So stop whining and take your medicine”.

And some people still wonder how Trump won….

                    2. Dumbfuck Hihnsano and his special pleading.

                    3. ONCE AGAIN. I never defended affirmative action of today, nor affirmative action of the past. I said so right up front. But you would rather attempt to write zingers instead of actually understanding the issue. Got it.

                    4. It may take Jeff a while to answer, as he’s probably on his way to South Africa to help murder White farming families. You know, ’cause they have it coming.

                    5. *white

That was an unfortunate place for my iPad to randomly capitalize that.

              2. “They’re not quotas, they’re just preferences that must create a minimum representation that doesn’t show a disparate impact”

Lefties are so full of shit.

                1. Yup. It is a KNOWN FACT that universities, major corporations, the government, etc ALL discriminate against whites and Asians of similar qualifications to other ethnic groups. They all strive to have perfect percentages of the population in their ranks, despite the fact that those other groups enter into university with VASTLY different grades and test scores as far as uni goes. The fact that they have vastly different professional resumes in the private sector etc. There is no denying that Asians and whites have to have literally hundreds of points higher SAT scores to get accepted into the same university versus blacks/Hispanics/others.

If that isn’t a quote, I don’t know WTF is.

          2. I might question whether their initial goals were laudable.

            1. “Every great cause begins as a movement, becomes a business and eventually degenerates into a racket.”

          3. Besides we’ve already seen what white identity politics looks like – it’s the KKK.

And what’s wrong with the good old days? If you hate America you should get the hell out to the shithole you came from.

What comparable justification is there for white identity politics groups of today? Is La Raza terrorizing and killing whites based on skin color?

I saw 500 videos on the news yesterday of just that. Along with Muslims (or those other turban-wearing ragheads) kidnapping American children to mutilate their genitalia. And because we don’t have a wall yet, illegal Mexicans have been taking WHITE American kids back across the border to sell them into slavery. Indians are on the rampage. The Black Panthers are training cop killers throughout Chicago and other cities – and preparing to invade the suburbs. And all these smelly ethnic and Eurotrash restaurants that are popping up everywhere are pretty obviously an attempt to introduce post-modern collectivism into our schools.

  9. There is a point where saying “take one for the team” for people negatively effected by policies you advocate or at least don’t put up a fight against is not going to work anymore.

The identity politics the Left has entrenched in our government and bureaucracy needed to be countered much more vigorously as the corruption of the culture’s ideals than it has been. Now it is metastasizing.

  10. It is always incumbent on every member of the GOP to publicly and repeatedly denounce the views expressed by any extremist in any way connected to the GOP. Just don’t expect any Democrat to ever be asked to denounce any extremist on the left.

    1. Kamala Harris breathed a sigh of relief

    2. Stop asking Lizzie Warren to denounce native American violence

  11. It’s inevitable and unavoidable. The Democrats have gone all-in on identity politics and tribalism. Hunting Whites seems to be a hobby for big tech companies and the NYTimes editorial board.

Of course Whites are going to react eventually. The alternative is to have their history, culture, and livelihoods eliminated.

    1. White Nationalism isn’t tribal?

      1. Of course it is. You corner a tribe or group, and they’ll look at each other and say “well, I guess it’s us against them.”

        1. Identity politics for everyone or no one.

      2. You can’t have tribalism for everybody BUT one group… The group will eventually catch on, and organize as a group, to protect their own interests. With EVERY group in America that isn’t white ganging up on them… It was inevitable that whites would get in on the game, or face utter destruction.

There’s a reason group politics works: Because people organizing as a group are stronger than atomized individuals. This is why 100% individualism is bullshit. If one group is all individuals, and another is organized as a group, the individualistic folks will lose 100% of the time. It’s just reality, like it or not.

        1. You know tribalism means mindless conformity to a tribe, right?
And mindless, raging hatred toward an opposing tribe, right?
It’s a sneering insult about goobers, who are a small minority of Americans, and (thank God) shrinking.

  12. Right has condemned them enough. It will never be enough.

    1. And really, it’s to the benefit of the Left to exaggerate both the numbers and the influence wielded by these “white nationalists”. The Left, and its friends in the media have been playing this game for decades, doing their best to try to scare people into accepting bigger government as the only alternative to some threat from the ever “resurgent right”. Remember Posse Commitatus? The Militia movement that was going to destroy American democracy? They were hyped up as political boogeymen for the benefit of the establishment Left.

  13. “Under this view, immigrants should come here LEGALLY and embrace the basic tenets of society.”

This is still the prevailing view. I don’t see how we can even have an honest discussion if people who are against ILLEGAL immigration are called anti-immigrat and racist by the left and by almost all of the major media. I also don’t see how we move past this if everyone continues to point fingers at Presidents for either enforcing or not enforcing immigration law and giving Congress a free pass from fixing the laws that everyone agrees is broken. Of course it’s much easier for the media to blame one person than it is every single ballless congressperson.

    1. I don’t see how we can even have an honest discussion if people who are against ILLEGAL immigration are called anti-immigrat and racist by the left and by almost all of the major media.

There are far too many people who accuse Republicans of being racists with scant motivation, for sure. But if we are going to have an honest discussion, perhaps we can start with an admission that the major motivation behind the border restrictionism on the right isn’t really about punishing illegal behavior, but is more about cultural anxiety associated with demographic change.

      1. the major motivation behind the border restrictionism on the right isn’t really about punishing illegal behavior, but is more about cultural anxiety associated with demographic change.”

right there you’ve eliminated all arguments by claiming its all about racism when you stop making that claim maybe people will start talking. its no better than asking when did you stop beating your wife

        1. I didn’t use the word racism, you did.

And I don’t think I’m wrong about the cultural anxiety. If we want to have an *honest* discussion, I think it behooves all sides to admit what their real motivations are.

          1. cultural anxiety is dog whistling racism and you know that. don’t claim words mean other than what they do to defend your self from the heard of haters.

            1. No, cultural anxiety is cultural anxiety. It may mean racism, or it may not. I think more broadly it is xenophobia, fear of strangers. Which is not necessarily tied to any particular race. And yes I do think this is the major impetus for the anti-immigration hysteria that grips the right. This is mainly because about 99% of the arguments that they deploy for wanting to restrict illegal immigration, apply just as well to legal immigration.

              1. I fully admit to not wanting to flood the country with foreigners. I have legitimate, statistically verifiable reasons for this.

What this equates to in reality is limiting immigration to numbers that can be effectively absorbed, AKA we change the immigrants as opposed to them changing us. Also bringing in immigrants who can support themselves, as opposed to being a drag on native born citizens. If it takes 2-3 generations for low skill immigrants to become net positive tax payers statistically speaking… Maybe we shouldn’t let in unlimited numbers in a short time span so as not to put too big a burden on native born citizens?

I’m part beaner (AKA Mexican) on my moms side. I’m from California. Cali has turned into a total shit show because of massive low skill immigration. Both politically and economically. Frankly, I don’t care what the NAP implies. Sometimes practical reality overrides theoretical principles. I think immigration is one of those things. This is why I favor only limited, high skill immigration, not based on racial grounds. There is nothing unreasonable about this.

BUT even if people didn’t want to become minorities ethnically in their own country… There is nothing wrong with that as a legit concern. We all know how much the left would shit their pants if some small African country were being overrun by Europeans that were outnumbering the natives… Just because America/Europe is filled with white people, it doesn’t make it any less legit an argument.

      2. so you want to start the conversation with an assumption bad faith motives and reasoning on the part of your opposition. Don’t expect your opposition to make better assumptions about you then.

        1. I want to start the conversation with *honest* motives. And I’m sorry, but I really don’t believe that the major part of the hysteria on the right about illegal immigration is because they are just so outrageously outraged that they merely broke the law. I think it is because they are afraid that the current crop of immigrants will transform America into a much worse place than it is today, and these beliefs are largely informed by anecdotes, stereotypes, and generalities, rather than guided by principles or statistical facts.

          1. While I may also think cultural anxiety is the motive, It’s pretty assholish to assign that motive and require someone to admit the motive *that I assigned*.

            1. That’s not what he did.
Which does not necessarily make you the a-hole.
              But very close to one.

              1. That is exactly what he did.

“…perhaps we can start with an admission that the major motivation behind the border restrictionism on the right isn’t really about punishing illegal behavior, but is more about cultural anxiety associated with demographic change.”

                An ‘admission…’

Not just ‘a’ but ‘the’ major…

You can call it a ‘stipulation’ rather than assignment of motive, but that doesn’t change it’s rhetorical effect.

Jeff is all about reading other people’s minds. Then he can ignore their actions and focus in on their wrongthink.

                1. That is exactly what he did.

Only if you’re wildly dishonest, as you are.

“…perhaps we can start with an admission that the major motivation behind the border restrictionism on the right isn’t really about punishing illegal behavior, but is more about cultural anxiety associated with demographic change.”

                  An ‘admission…’

                  Any questions.

          2. It IS precisely the fact that the right CAN read statistics that they’re worried.

I wouldn’t have a problem with the large scale immigration if it weren’t for the fact they they’re overwhelmingly lower education, lower income, net negative tax contributors, they admit in polls that they don’t care about free speech/2A/smaller government/etc and so on.

I’m part Mexican. The problem is, I can read stats. Most Hispanic immigrant shave shit incomes, shit views on politics, and in recent years seem to be VERY anti “white.” Anybody who ISN’T worried about the fact that this demographic is going to be the 2nd biggest one in the country is a fucking moron.

If Hispanics voted like your statistically average white American nobody would give two shits, once they learned English. But they don’t. MAYBE someday they might… But heretofore they have not. This is not an illogical fear to have.

            1. It IS precisely the fact that the right CAN read statistics that they’re worried.

Like immif\gants having lower crime rates, both legal and illegal ones. Or just the “convenient” ones.

They admit in polls that they don’t care about free speech/2A/smaller government/etc and so on.

Did you see that at Infowars? (lol)

              1. Uhhh, no, actually pretty much every poll ever shows that Hihn.

As far as crime rates, you have to play mental gymnastics to arrive at illegals having lower crime rates.

Our native rates include native born blacks and Hispanics. Using black criminality rates as a bar for acceptable crime levels is NOT cool. Illegal immigrants commit crimes at far higher rates than native born whites OR Hispanics, but higher lower than blacks. Keep in mind native born Hispanics ALSO have vastly higher crime rates than native born whites…

Blacks = ~13% of the population, ~50% of murders
Hispanics = ~15% of the population, ~35% of murders
Whites = ~64% of the population, less than 15% of murders

Given that basically ALL Hispanics immigrated here since the 60s, they were only 2-3% back then, I’m pretty sure that means Hispanic immigrants and their kids commit crimes at WAY higher rates than those stuffy old white people or Asians.

Immigrants committing less crime is a BS game of using definitions that are technically correct, but not what people really mean when talking about this stuff.

  14. Logic suggests that since white supremacy was a really big thing in the past, it’s possible it might come back today.

But how will we tell when it does come, what with all the crying-wolf going on? What will they say, “hey, this time we’re not lying, this one is real”?

At present we see a Robert Spencer here and there, plus lots of white racists commenting on the Internet, but whenever people try to provide evidence of an actual mainstream racist policy initiative, they tend to come up short. The idea of a temporary pause on Muslim immigration could be called religious bias, but even in its most extreme form, it was a pause only until screening could be improved.

So far the examples of “racist” policies involve enforcing the immigration statutes, requiring IDs at the polls, and things which a normal person wound’t define as racist.

Of course, from the standpoint of political messaging, anyone who wants to enforce the immigration laws will have to go out of his (or her) way to show (s)he’s not a racist, just like anyone for market solutions will have to go out of his or her way to show (s)he isn’t a heartless Scrooge. That’s politics.

So, will the long-anticipated racist backlash arrive in some massive, unpleasant form? I can’t say it won’t, just that the proof they’re offering of it happening so far has been thin gruel.

    1. As far as signs of actual white racism, these tend to be in “unexpected” quarters – low expectations of black students, abortions for black babies, and other things promoted by the supposedly sworn foes of white meanie supremacism.

    2. How about this?

(WJBF) – Some voters in Randolph County, Georgia are outraged because the board of elections is trying to close 7 of its 9 voting precincts, before the November general election.

We’re talking about precincts that were used in the July runoff.

Randolph County is 60-percent african american and many voters do not have transportation.

So if the precincts are shut down, those voters would have to walk about 3 and a half hours to get to the closest polling place.

This is an obvious ploy to stop blacks from voting in Georgia.

      1. Proposed by a consultant and rejected. What else you got?

“The county’s board of elections and registration in Randolph County rejected the proposal to close seven of the county’s nine polling locations. Michael Malone, a consultant hired by the board in April, recommended the closures as a cost-saving measure, saying that the seven locations were not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Malone was fired Thursday.”

      2. This sort of post is why I think you are a completely dishonest, race obsessed, douche-bag. The thing about credibility is that once-lost it is very difficult to regain.

        1. To be fair… He’s also really really dumb.

          1. We must be fair. It’s only fair.

            ButtPlug is a dumb liar.

        2. He never had credibility, so he probably doesn’t care.

    3. I think you bring up some good points, but I think there is a bit of naivete here, too. Take this:

“even in its most extreme form, it was a pause only until screening could be improved”

The problem with that is that “improved screening” was never defined and there was never any concrete plan for how to do it. And if improved screening is the ultimate goal, it can be pursued regardless of whether the ban(s) were upheld. Has it been? Or was that simply a qualifier meant to make the policy more palatable with no intent on following through?

I agree 100% that immigration enforcement and voter ID laws are not, in and of themselves, racist or ethnicist or whatever label you want to use. But a lot of the rhetoric surrounding immigration in particular reflects, as the article says, a view of “America as a product of a specific time, place and people”. And there are commenters on this very site who are explicit in their opinion that those places and peoples don’t really include Central and South Americans, among others. I don’t think that view stems from some idea of genetic or racial inferiority, but I do think it stems from a nationalistic and collectivist view of the culture of people from those places, and it tends to fall along explicitly racial and ethnic lines.

      1. I don’t think you can ignore the motivation behind those policy goals any more than you can ignore the motivation behind the policy goals of the left that might appear to be libertarian-friendly at first glance, but ultimately turn out to not be.

        1. You mean replacing and ethnically cleansing Whites in the U.S., South Africa, and Europe won’t be the Libertarian Moment?

          1. It has basically happened in South Africa, is more than underway in Europe, and the motions are being set in N. America.

          2. Nothing even close to “replacing and ethnically cleansing whites” is happening in the US or Europe. It’s an absurd claim. Immigrants don’t replace people – no one is being kicked out of the country to make room for immigrants. Affirmative action is not ethnic cleansing. Deplatforming and antifa are a cause for some measured concern for their impact on free speech but they are also not ethnic cleansing. You do have a case that white landowners in South Africa are having their rights violated via land grabs, and that has zero relevance to American politics.

If you want to spread libertarian values, here’s an idea – don’t collectivize people based on their place of origin. Don’t go around saying that people from Mexico and South America are culturally incompatible with libertarian or traditional American values. That’s a sure fire way to drive them into the waiting arms of progressives.

And maybe look back through history and to see who some of the greatest champions of progressive policies have been in America. You’ll find that there were usually native born, white, and reasonably well-off. I mean, that was basically the explicit makeup of the early progressives, and continued to be up through WWII.

            1. If you want to spread libertarian values, here’s an idea – don’t collectivize people based on their place of origin.

psst: many of the people you are talking to on this subject, aren’t libertarians and don’t want to spread libertarian values. They are racial collectivists.

              1. That’s the thing you have to ignore at all costs…

            2. Yet somehow Whites are now a minority in London. They’ve been replaced.

              1. Is there some rule that says that London has to be a majority white city?

              2. No one is going around swapping out white people for other skin colors. Populations are growing at different rates. That is not “replacement”.

                1. Of course it is. And it isn’t a coincidence that a whole bunch of people from those fast-growing populations happen to show up.

                  1. “Is there some rule that says that London has to be a majority white city?”

Well, the fact that the UK has ALWAYS BEEN a white European country, and that London is tha capitol of the UK, it’s a little weird. I mean if the capitol of China was majority white, or the capitol of Nigeria was majority Japanese it would be a little weird right?

IMO, you can make a bullshit argument about the US being an exception, but EUROPEAN COUNTRIES are the homelands of EUROPEAN PEOPLE. Anybody who says that countries in Europe don’t have a right to remain majority white can go fuck themselves. IMO they should be able to go even further than that, and be able to reject other Europeans from moving to whatever country as well.

The English have a right to remain English, the French have a right to remain French, etc. Anyone who doesn’t see this as a painfully obvious fact can go fuck themselves. And to turn it on its head, if Liberia were being overrun by white people, and outnumbering the native population, we ALL know how the pant shitting would be happening with lefties. Fair is fair, no matter the skin color.

    4. So far the examples of “racist” policies involve enforcing the immigration statutes, requiring IDs at the polls, and things which a normal person wound’t define as racist.

You are right. However, we all are also haunted by the spectre of what actual racists did in the past, designing policies with a veneer of racial blindness in order to paper over their genuine racist motivations. Such as literacy tests for voting, poll taxes, “separate but equal” doctrine, etc. So while you and I might agree that requiring an ID for voting is just a common sense security provision for voting, others will see it as just another hidden poll tax. So I think we have to explain our support for voter ID with that skepticism in mind, and not just dismiss it as nonsense.

      1. The initial assault, Charlottesvile– Nazis and white supremacists attacking peaceful protesters with clubs

        1. Dumbfuck Hihnsano and his special pleading.

      3. And the fact that ANYBODY would ever be against a literacy test to vote, shows how retarded the left has always been. If you can’t read YOU SHOULDN’T BE ABLE TO VOTE. Likewise if you’re such an irresponsible human being that you don’t have ANY form of ID in the 21st century.

I have zero problem putting up barriers that prevent idiots from voting. Universal suffrage is a horrible idea, and we can see its outcome in how fucked this country has become. If preventing idiots from voting hits different ethnic groups at different rates, maybe some of those ethnic groups should get their shit together!

    5. ” The idea of a temporary pause on Muslim immigration could be called religious bias”

Or it could be called a political bias against theocratic totalitarianism.

      1. Or it could be called a political bias against theocratic totalitarianism.

…. unless it’s a totalitarian CHRISTIAN theocracy, as promoted by Ron Paul, his ilk, and many others

        1. Ron Paul the Totalitarian

Yeah. You’re not crazy or anything.

          1. Why do you support his fascist bill that would have forbidden SCOTUS to even consider any challenges to DOMA. Why do you support denying homosexuals to defend their constitutional rights — the first group denied a constitutional defense since slavery?

            Shame on you.
You repeat that moral atrocity by believing it was “rogue judges” who overturned DOMA,
Your obscene view of the Constitution traces to southern racists, Jim Crow laws and the KKK … the bat-shit crazy notion that we have NO defense against rights abuses by state and local governments. You reject core principles of our Constitution … separation of power and balance of power between THREE co-equal branches. BECAUSE you are authoritarian.

And you deny the 9th and 14th Amendments, while lying that you’re a Constitutional conservative.

            You’re not crazy or anything.

            1) So much smarter than you
            2) Especially on the Constitution and individual liberty.
            3) Not as easily manipulated as you..

And I’m a libertarian, which your authoritarian right has always lied about.
Because we call out your statist diktats, .which are just as evil as the authoritarian left.

            Left – Right = Zero

  15. You know there is already an influential Beltway think tank–Niskanen Center–that are not “cosmotarians,” nor “sellout libertarians,” nor anything of the like, but rather simply not libertarians–unambiguously well outside the widest bounds of the term (something I am not inclined to say easily). Nonetheless, they actively go around presenting themselves as libertarian “pragmatists.” For instance they go around blanketing the national media with guest editorials to various effects like, “I’m a staunch committed libertarian, an officer of a leading libertarian think tank, and I demand strict gun laws to secure true freedom for us to live our lives in peace,” and so forth.

These people are surely far more realistically dangerous to our goals than the supposed vast paleonazi menace or whatever that the alarm is always being sounded about. And yet I have never, ever seen furrowed-brow cosmos at Reason or Cato attempt to read these people out of the movement. I have seen them give them platforms, though.

    1. Every ideology has fuzz around the edges. The mere fact that they call themselves libertarian as a primary identifier is enough to tell me they take it seriously. So what if their analysis says “strict gun laws”? People analyzing things can come to different conclusions even by the same analysis. Your “widest bounds of the term” aren’t wide enough if you don’t acknowledge that. For every deviation from the norm they exhibit, there’ll be someone else identifying similarly who deviates the opposite way, which is why it’s a norm.

      1. Extremists are the same, on such issues as gun ownership and pro-life. The moral hypocrisy of claiming ANY right can be absolute over a competing absolute right. And seeking to impose their bias through state force.

The very concept of multiple absolute rights can, and does, explode many brains.
But it’s the simple definition of “unalienable.” Or … Jefferson and the Founders were freaking illiterates.

    2. The Wikipedia entry on them currently says, “The Niskanen Center has sought to differentiate itself from other think tanks on the political right by espousing a position of strategic compromise,” If that’s how they want to do it, isn’t that sufficient explanation for you? Or does “libertarian”, unlike every other kind of “-ian”, require (by you) a specific rejection of strategic compromise?

      1. Do you not recognize the strategic compromisers in every other tendency? Does that fuzz it so much that you can no longer identify their tendency?

  16. To your firat point, yes when young white males go to college and are blamed for all of societies ills and told that they need to apologize for being born, what the hell do people think is going to eventually happen. Maybe that’s the goal. The Left couldn’t entice class warfare so they want to induce race warfare. Interestingly that was Charles Manson’s plan as well.

    1. when young white males go to college and are blamed for all of societies ills and told that they need to apologize for being born, what the hell do people think is going to eventually happen

The reaction isn’t a given. Everyone has the power to make a choice. Jordan Petersen is speaking to these people in a way that is far more consistent with classically liberal/libertarian values.

      1. And he’s still calling out the universities pretty straightforwardly for their shitfuckery logic and evil agenda.

        1. Nothing wrong with calling out people and institutions for bad ideas. My point is that is that he isn’t then turning around and saying “Now go forth and do the same thing in reverse”

          1. No argument. But if you’re a racist NO MATTER WHAT, why bother?

And if EVERY other group is allowed to become an interest group, I have a hard time saying “well, whites cannot do the same”

      2. Jordan Petersen is speaking to these people in a way that is far more consistent with classically liberal/libertarian values.

Yeah, and even he’s being implicated as a subversive danger to the glories of beige globalism. The fact that someone as anodyne as Peterson is considered a such a threat is a good indicator of the real social status quo.

Criticizing white nationalists for tribalism misses the point–this is what inevitably happens in a multicultural society, because consumerism is wholly inadequate to filling the gap left by the degradation of social capital, and the various interest groups feel they have no choice but to battle over control of its administration and resources.

        1. Because why have the Balkans in the Balkans when you can impose it upon the world?

          1. Better still, why have the Balkans in the Balkans when you can have the Balkans in your living room?

        2. The initial assault, Charlottesvile– Nazis and white supremacists attacking peaceful protesters with clubs

The Ruling Reptiles really don’t care which race is on top. As long as they can divide and conquer. All the identity politics is for the Outer Party and the Proles.

    3. The biggest mistake the left ever made was making white men the bogey man. White men are REALLY good at killing people and subjugating them when they get pissed off… If this shit doesn’t stop soon, I suspect it is a very real possibility that is exactly what will happen again. The left forgot that you’re supposed to blame all of societies problems on a small, weak, minority population… Not the dominant majority group! Ooops!

      1. The biggest mistake the left ever made was making white men the bogey man

Are you 12-years old? KKK? Lynching? Charlottesville? Little Rock’s Central High?

        1. The Muslim invasion of India ~100 million dead
          Mongol invasions ~80 million dead

I could go on… White people aren’t the only ones who have been mean. We are however the only ones that ever FORCED the entire rest of the world to end slavery. The thing we’re the only ones blamed for. We did end ruthless dictatorships all over the world. We did suss out all the principles of freedom everybody seems to appreciate nowadays.

We’ve done bad shit, but we’re no worse than anybody else, and can be argued to actually have been MORE moral than most other groups… Muslims castrated 100% of their male African slaves… Kinda sounds worth than how we did it state side doesn’t it?

Practically speaking though, it’s simply a tactical error on the part of the left to fuck with white men, because we are the most powerful, educated, and influential group of people on planet earth. Bullies are supposed to be smart enough to pick on weaklings, not Bruce Lee or Muhammad Ali or whatever!

  17. Hmm, leftie mob goes after an actor over tweets.

Seems Reason is not interested. When the Right does it to the Left, it is a big problem.

    1. Its the bad kind of hate don’t ya know.

  18. As we scope around the world, we look at socialism/communism’s legacy as well as current attempts causing misery and REAL anguish and death, whereas I don’t see very much of this “white nationalism” as state policy. One gets rebuked for having a rally of maybe 200 , while entire countries buckle under socialism’s inhumanity, and nothing.
Remove head from sphincter then type, Greenhut, I wonder what pressure, and from whom, Reason’s under to put out these asinine articles.

    1. ” I wonder what pressure, and from whom, Reason’s under to put out these asinine articles.”

I suspect either Farrakhan or Sharpton or some other dark-skinned celebrity.

  19. The mainstream left has spent decades wallowing in racial identity for political gain, and now the other side is supposed to condemn one particular fringe element of the racial identity power sweepstakes?

And a losing one at that?

Hey Greenhut, do Farrakhan, and La Raza…

    1. And CAIR. Remember when Reason used to publish Mohammed cartoons?

  20. Conservative != libertarian. Just because there is overlap in goals does not mean that there are any unifiying principles. The moment that conservatives wield power they become authoritarians.

    1. The moment that conservatives wield power they become authoritarians.

“These are the only times in history that any political interest group ever wielded power in a less-than-democratic fashion.”

  21. Say, doesn’t “America as an idea” imply that you might get in trouble if you import too many people who disagree with the idea?

America as just a place can survive no matter who comes here, short of sustained nuclear bombardment removing the place. But ideas can die.

There’s a real problem here, anyway: The left has been on a major push to racialize everything, for years now. There HAS to be a push back. If nice people are too nice to do that pushing back, not so nice people are going to do it.

You don’t want resurgent white racism? You’ve got to encourage the non-racist fight against racial politics. Just like if you don’t want the Aryan Nation leading the fight against the Antifa goons, you’ve got to organize people to fight them who are less unsavory.

If the nice guys abandon the fight, they shouldn’t be surprised if not so nice guys take up the slack.

    1. Try thinking about it from their point of view for a moment.

You’re a black man who really does think that we live in a racist society – and, at least on a statistical level, there is plenty of evidence for this position. You are supportive of organizations that protect and advance the cause of black Americans in the face of this racism. And then along come these Richard Spencer types who declare that they are going to form their own white identitarian associations to stick up for the interests of white Americans, and you’re a little bit horrified by the prospect. And then along comes Brett Bellmore who says “well, you know the way you can defeat people like Richard Spencer, is to fight against all racial politics of all kinds”. I think one very reasonable response from this black person would be “are you fkn kidding me? It’s the racists like Richard Spencer who are the entire reason for having black identitiarian institutions in the first place.”

So it is a bit of a chicken-and-egg problem.

      1. ” And then along come these Richard Spencer types who declare that they are going to form their own white identitarian associations to stick up for the interests of white Americans”

And if you are shocked and horrified by that then you are full of shit because you supposedly already thought the country was the most racisty racist place to ever racist

        1. There is no inconsistency in believing that America is a racist country, and that Richard Spencer’s actions would make it worse in a horrifying way.

          1. If one “white identitarian” guy is making things worse then you don’t get to act like white people are all secret KKK members. Logically everything can not be a fresh outrage. You have to start somewhere relatively good to go somewhere bad.

            1. *somewhere worse, I should say

            2. If one “white identitarian” guy is making things worse then you don’t get to act like white people are all secret KKK members.

That is not what I mean. Pointing out that, statistically, blacks are murdered by police at a higher rate than whites, is not the same as accusing every police officer of being a secret KKK member. That is the whole structural racism critique. That the structures and institutions that are in place divert outcomes into a racist direction even if the actors involved have nonracist intentions. I don’t place a lot of faith in this critique but a lot of people on the left do. It at least behooves us to understand this. So if you are a person who does believe that, say, the criminal justice system suffers from structural racism, and then along comes a guy like Richard Spencer who proudly declares that he’s not even going to hide his racism anymore, then yes, that makes things worse even if the starting point of the analysis isn’t that great to begin with.

              1. “Pointing out that, statistically, blacks are murdered by police at a higher rate than whites”

But the thing is, they’re not! Not if you correct for the rate at which they encounter police, which is inevitably higher given relative crime rates. Actually, corrected for the rate at which they encounter police, they’re less likely to be shot, not more.

      2. “and, at least on a statistical level, there is plenty of evidence for this position.”

There are two problems with that.

First, the purely statistical argument usually starts from the premise that racism is the only thing that would cause disparities, and that assumption is, to put it mildly, garbage.

Second, even if you assume there’s still a lot of racism about, you don’t get rid of racism by racially discriminating.

You might convince people to not discriminate. Convincing them to agree to be discriminated against? That’s not going to happen. If you convince people that racial discrimination is legitimate, they’re going to demand to be the beneficiaries, not the victims.

Ending discrimination, in the end, is the only way racism goes away.

          2. The copypaste is strong with this one.

    2. “Say, doesn’t “America as an idea” imply that you might get in trouble if you import too many people who disagree with the idea?”

It’s totally totally racist to imply that Afghani goatherds are less in tune with Thomas Paine than Americans. Reason told me so.

      1. That’s how ragimng, hate-spewing bigiots seek to justify their contemot for “equal, unalienable and/or God-given rights.” THEY are the ones shitting on Thomas Paine. Even to defying Almighty God and The Christ, Jesus … often defying the Will of God, in the Name of God.

        1. ” Afghani goatherds are all extra tan Thomas Paines”

          1. Cowardly evasiion

REPEAT: That’s how raging, hate-spewing bigiots seek to justify their contempt for “equal, unalienable and/or God-given rights.” THEY are the ones shitting on Thomas Paine. Even to defying Almighty God and The Christ, Jesus … often defying the Will of God, in the Name of God.

          2. Maga

            1. Dishonest Diversion

              MAGA: My Attorney Got Arrested!

              MAGA: My Advisors Going Away!

              MAGA: My Associates Getting Allocutions!

        2. The problem is statistics. Which show that ALL immigrants, including white ones, have worse political inclinations than native born white Americans. Non white immigrants views are worse than the white ones, which tend to come from countries that are roughly similar in their institutions and general cultures. Facts… They’re a bitch. Just because reality isn’t what you want it to be, doesn’t mean you won’t get bit in the ass by it!

          1. The problem is statistics.

It’s your fucking bigotry, which you prove next.

Which show that ALL immigrants, including white ones, have worse political inclinations than native born white American

“Worse” — or different than yours?

They happen to be mostly social conservatives. Republicans pissing THEM off is a massive fucking failure.

You actually confessed your bigotry. Proud of it. Most bigots are. As self-righteous as anything on the left.

            Left – Right = Zero

            1. Yeah, I’m bigoted because I can read polling data!

When people say they favor more government versus less, I have a problem with that. As I pointed out, even European immigrants have this problem. White America is uniquely conservative/libertarian leaning.

  22. Just to be clear, I’m not saying that Trump or his supporters are racist or white nationalists. But some of the deep thinkers on that side of the aisle have views of cultural matters that give libertarians such as myself the willies. For instance, former Republican presidential candidate and commentator Pat Buchanan has long been one of the leading advocates of the paleoconservative view.

So conservatives need to decry the formidably dangerous examples of your definition of white nationalism such as Pat Buchanan? Literally lol

    1. Pat Buchanan, Rituallistic Satanist daycare Abuse, The Cold War, New Coke, Backward masking, Break Dancing – Mr Reason, the 80s called…..

      1. Well, we are also scared of Russia again. Should I worry about contracting AIDs from a toilet seat as well? Also, I’m what if I wont be able to find a Cabbage Patch doll for my niece’s birthday?

        1. Does anyone under age 40 even know who Pat Buchanan is?
The last I checked, he was running for POTUS with a Marxist Green running mate, so I’m not sure how far under the GOP tent he is these days….

Also, if more people show up to demand the installation of a Baphomet statue at a state capital than show up to the ultra-publicized white nationalist rally, why Aren’t we worrying about Satanism taking over, and pushing back against that? I would think Libertarians would want to distance themselves from that selfish “Do what thou will shall be the whole of the law” message

    2. “Many of today’s Democrats are quite moderate on social issues, and have a America-first view of foreign policy. For example, Joe Lieberman and Zell Miller….”

  23. I’m sure the people that are decried (and called racist and islamophobic) for demanding that moderate Muslims loudly denounce their radical Jihadist brethren are totally going to listen to those same people demand that they denounce the radicals in their own camp.

    /heavy sarc

    1. demanding that moderate Muslims loudly denounce their radical Jihadist brethren

When Trump denounces racist/nazi violence, and Putin?

  24. the right has no need to rebuke whiten nationalist because they are not members of the conservative party. the conservative party will defend white nationalist their right to free speech but that does not mean conservatives approve of them or support them in any way. White nationalist are their own party and like libertarian will support whichever side will come closest to their beliefs and more often then not that is democrats

    1. the conservative party will defend white nationalist their right to free speech but that does not mean conservatives approve of them or support them in any way.

Their President does, blatantly and shamefully.

      Left – Right = Zero
That’s why “the Creator” invented libertatians

  25. Yeah right. A few dozen hillbillies play dress-up and the propaganda media dishonestly pretends that they are a big deal.

Meanwhile, half the Democrat party is lurching toward communism which killed over 100 million people and made the 20th century the bloodiest in history by far.

    1. A few dozen hillbillies play dress-up and the propaganda media dishonestly pretends that they are a big deal

Yeah, vicious assaults and murder are no big deal.

  26. “Resurgent White Nationalism”

Is there any real evidence that it is, “Resurgent”?

ffs, the rallies of kkk/nazi types haven’t increased by so much as a half dozen… in 30 years.

    1980s: ’36 show up’
    2000: 4
    2008: 35 (RESURGENCE!!!)
    2018: ~20* (Sad trombone)

*Most stories i’ve seen have actually avoided naming a number, because they don’t want to undermine the silly outrage-machine. I’ve yet to see photos which capture as many as 2 dozen.

Every Pew/Gallup poll i’ve seen in the last 20 years has shown racial animus in decline. pollsters have had to re-word questions to try and gin up formulations to get people to admit that they “Aren’t concerned” about racial conflict, which of course is spun as evidence that there’s *a terrible divide in concern about racial conflict*
(because black respondents are far quicker to say, ‘they’re concerned’)

    Stop pumping stupid narratives

    1. The writer claims he isn’t talking about the pitiful demonstrations, but his examples of “white nationalism” are even worse. Basically a couple of quotes by a couple of “paleoconservatives” with little to no influence

    2. “sad trombone”!

    3. Every Pew/Gallup poll i’ve seen in the last 20 years has shown racial animus in decline.

That’s not the issue at all. Pollters report percentages., and the percentage of individuals who hold racial animus is down, for the same reason support for marriage equality keeps increasing … the percentage of Americans self-identifying with libertarian values is now over 60% and rising.

      Stop pumping stupid narrative

      Versus a false narrative?
How long has it been since self-professed nazis and white nationalists have marched openly to such an extent, and so violently? When has a US President EVER lied so shamelessly to defend them?

  27. What are the overwhelmingly dominant issues for conservatives? Refugees and immigration in the US and refugees and immigration in Europe?but nowhere else in the world. Hysteria over crimes committed by Latinos and blacks but not white presidents.

Trade? They’re not sure. How does it relate to racial relations?

It’s all about fucking race. It always has been, but now it really is all about it and almost nothing else. Reason could publish an article about regulations for beauty salons, and half the comments would include the phrase “open borders.”

You guys have let the Pepe the frog retards dictate the terms of your politics. Don’t you feel a little stupid for letting that happen?

    1. What are overwhelmingly dominant issues for progressives? Class. Class and identity. COMMUNISTS ALL

      1. Climate change, criminal justice reform, infrastructure and other investment, making education and healthcare cheaper, and, yes, to some extent, making the world better for minorities. The absolute horror of it all.

    2. Immigration is the biggest deal because both parties and the political establishment are vehemently opposed to the American people. Republicans, Independents, Democrats, blacks, Hispanics, all favor cutting immigration by large majorities. All of these groups also support ending illegal immigration, while the political establishment vehemently refuses to do so even though it’s not that hard to do.

And what’s the point of our de facto open borders policy? The point of it is more government control, the destruction of our Constitutional liberties, and even more money and power for the very wealthy and privileged. Keep wages low, replace Americans with millions of new voters who will vote for the socialist economic and social justice agendas, and permanently break American culture with divisive identity politics.

So it’s easy to see why immigration is THE top issue to Americans as a whole according to every poll.

      1. Immigration, illegal or legal, here in the real world, is not a pressing issue at all, except to the immigrants caught up in our shitshow of a process.

        1. LOL As someone who grew up in California, a previously centrist state, I would beg to differ. The ENTIRE political landscape in the country has been shifted sharply left, and it is mostly because of immigration if one looks at voting patterns. The left knows this, that’s why they push for more low skilled immigration. Leftists aren’t stupid (well not the ones at the top), they’re just evil.

          1. Your compulsion to be a dictator is all too typical on the Authoritarian Right
            And the Authoritarian Left.

    3. The Marxist vermin rouses himself from fapping to dreams of another mountain of corpses 100 million high…

  28. Also from the Atlantic: Sympathy for white south African farmers is peculiar. Is it peculiar to be suspicious of a government that steals private property from people because they have the wrong skin color? Is it peculiar to condemn a government that looks the other way when a minority population is raped, murdered and robbed? Is this simply reparations in action?

“Despite the many graver human-rights problems plaguing Africa, Trump has somehow seized upon one affecting white people. Yes, there are legitimate critiques of the ruling African National Congress’s (ANC) recent decision to support the expropriation of white-owned farmland without compensation. But claiming that Trump’s concern for white South Africans supposedly menaced by black people has nothing to do with his well-documented history of racism is like saying his focus on the murder of Mollie Tibbetts has nothing to do with the fact that she is white and her alleged killer is Latino. It long ago ceased being an argument that can be made in good faith. “

    1. From the same article, it is just a benign effort to “speed up land reform”:

“Today, a sympathetic observer might see in the ANC’s desire to speed up land reform an understandable, if potentially dangerous, effort at alleviating the profound racial disparities inherited from apartheid. Trump, by contrast, sees only white oppression.”

      1. The thing that should concern us is that the president of the US has taken up neo-Nazi hysteria has his latest big cause.

        1. So, you think the South African government’s murder of its citizens is “neo-Nazi hysteria”?

          1. I encourage you to read about the topic and not just watch White Resentment Hour–sorry, Tucker Carlson.

            1. You know that mobs are assassinating or lynching white farmers, with no legal ramifications…

        2. link? I haven’t heard a word about Jew bankers

    2. The irony is that South Africa was founded by white immigrants at a time when the area was almost completely vacant. Later blacks moved into the area because there was a functioning economy.

But the blacks aren’t taking anything “back”, they’re just taking it.

      1. They didn’t move there because of the economy. The Zulu came for conquest. And they ethnically cleansed the local bushmen and replaced them.

They tried it on the Boers, and although they did brutally murder many they failed. Until the whites have up apartheid. Now they will finish the job and exterminate them.

        How does that song go…
“Kill the Boer. Kill the farmer.”

    3. “Genocide is bad, m’kay, but it’s only white people, so don’t go getting all excited about it!”

  29. Greenhut is basically recycling the subtle William Kristol/Republican Establishment smear that Trump supporters are all mouth-breathing Klansmen at heart.

Which, ironically, is a big reason why Trump won the presidency in the first place: a lot of Americans wanted to give a big middle finger to the feckless, effete, Ivy League elites who run both parties.

To be sure, Greenhut is quick to point out not all Trump supporters are racist — just the ones who think the US government should prioritize the needs of its own citizens above the rest of the world.

Reason morphed into The Weekly Standard so slowly I hardly noticed.

    1. Try Vox

      1. I thought it was Salon

    2. Because the best way to demonstrate that you’re not a white supremacist is to join them in a political alliance.

      1. Because deriding the legitimate economic and security concerns of a significant chunk the electorate as nothing but hatred is a great way to obtain their votes.

You really should try to get a job as a political analyst with those kind of hot takes, Tony.

        1. Trumpsters lose … again

The initial assault, Charlottesvile– Nazis and white supremacists attacking peaceful protesters with clubs

        1. What’s wrong with Robert Byrd?

          1. Is dumbfuck Tony, screeching incessantly about racist whites, really that ignorant?

          2. Nothing faggot nigger lover. Byrd loved him some racism and white hoods.

            1. Any adults in the room?

              dumbfuck Tony,

              faggot nigger lover

              The Authoritarian Right

              Fuck off, Trumpholes

Hillary Clinton’s Link To Former KKK Leader Robert Byrd
….Throughout his career he made many attempts to amend for drawing in 150 members to the Klan, and for attaining the position of “Exalted Cyclops.”

Those attempts led the National Associated for the Advancement of Colored People to issue a statement in praise of Byrd upon his death, and for Clinton, when she was secretary of state at the time, to comment on his passing.

When will Trump atone for his a-hole racism re Charlottesville?
(When hell freezes over, like two alt-right a-holes here)

  30. ALL ethnic and racial nationalism needs to be rebuked. Nobody should have any pride in their race or ethnicity. It is all equally racist! Just because historically white identitarianism has been more dangerous doesn’t mean it will stay that way.

There is no way white nationalism is going away as long as the left continues to push every other group of people to take pride in their race and unite as one monolithic group, instead of all uniting as Americans. I don’t see either side changing, though.

    1. What evidence is there that “historically white identitarianism has been more dangerous”? The enslavement and extirpation of the “other” is the reality of history. If anything, “white identitarianism” has been drastically less dangerous, because we didn’t extirpate the natives in the heyday of colonialism.

      1. If you really wanna go that route, Arab/Turkish supremacy, or Mongol supremacy killed/enslaved as many or more people than white indentitarianism did!

    2. “It’s only racist when Whitey does it”

  31. Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg gets immunity

Allen Weisselberg, longtime chief financial officer for the Trump organization, has been granted immunity by federal prosecutors? This is a very significant story that’s already causing waves in the legal circles around the White House.

? Weisselberg has true and deep visibility into the Trump Organization. Trumpworld’s greatest fear is that SDNY investigators start prying deeper into the president’s business affairs. Trump can’t shut down such an investigation by firing Robert Mueller. This one’s out of his hands.

The tweets are about to get very nasty. He goes back DECADES as Trump’s Chief Financial Officer. Looks like Mueller hopes to wind this up before the midterms.

Look for the “loans” he got from Deutsche Bank, a convicted money-launderer for Russia ? the ONLY bank that lent to him after all the bankruptcies. We already know he spent over $100 million on properties soon after ? all cash, no mortgages. If that cash traces to Deutsche Bank ? unsecured loans to the America’s worst credit risk ? by a Russian money launder? Do the math, he may literally owe his entire fortune to Russia, and WHY Putin owns him. And 90% those chips have fallen.

Congressional GOP has MAYBE a week to bail.

  32. GOP has lost 7% against Dems … under Trump

    Gallup’s latest ?(July, 2018)

This is “affiliation” — how you define yourself. Partisan registrations includes leaners, plus states have widely varying rules.
    Republicans 26%
    Democrats 30%
    Independent 41%

The link has monthly polling since 2004.

    Compare when Trump took office
    Republican 28%
    Democrat 25%
    Independent 44%

Both parties have declined under Trump (YAY). Republicans have fallen from +3 to -4, a 7% LOSS under Trump
Each tribe, of course, beleeeebs, it is the majority. All of America is waiting for them to save them

    1. Versus your own heartless-trolling?

  34. They should get conservative rebuke. Islam should rebuke terrorist acts done in it’s name too.

The latter not happening often doesn’t seem to be a big deal. Why should the first. At least the first isn’t cutting off peoples head’s for non-compliance.

  35. The resurgent White Nationalism is only temporary because before many more decades pass there will not be very many “white” to become “White Nationalists”. As it is now the interbreeding of the white population with with other races will dilute the the blood line of the white race and the fewer number of children of white people is reducing the overall proportions of the white people as a part of the whole population.

    1. Goddamn mongrelization of our glorious white race.
      /sarc

      1. Dumbfuck Hihnsano’s always been a mongrel regardless of his skin color.

    2. There is no such thing as race. It is a myth. There are geographic variations in human DNA but it has nothing to do with what people call race.

As PJ O’Rourke said “if we were dogs we would all be the same breed.”

      1. And Americans are biggest mutt breed there is. Americans can be any ‘race’ on the planet and still be Americans.

You dont see many chinese Cubans.

        1. Please stop trolling my comments.

          1. Good luck. He’s been known to troll targets for several months,

          2. Please stop trolling good comments, including mine.

            1. When will you make any?

      2. “There are geographic variations in human DNA but it has nothing to do with what people call race.”

        Yeah, totally independent variables.

Sometimes Koreans are Asian, sometimes, African, sometimes white. You just never know.

      3. That is a bunch of bullshit. Human variation, whatever you care to call it, is large enough that we would be classified as several subspecies if we were any other animal. It would be more subspecies than we currently have races, which is not precise enough if you want to be scientific about it. Differences in diseases, physical features, mental features, etc are statistically significant beyond a shadow of a doubt.

I agree we’re all people, and deserve to be treated as such, but this kind of nonsense is non scientific, and simply not factual.

  36. Hence, we see the Trump administration’s focus on curtailing immigration and adopting tariffs, with direct appeals to nationalism. Basically, the two sides have a fundamentally different perspective on what it means to be a nation.
Most Republican leaders, since Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan, have generally accepted the notion of America is an idea. It’s a place where individuals of all backgrounds can be free to pursue their own dreams. Under this view, immigrants should come here legally and embrace the basic tenets of society.

This gap is not at all difficult to bridge unless you’re determined not to try. All you have to do is recognise that the Trump administration’s immigration focus has been almost entirely on illegal immigration and it becomes identical to “Under this view, immigrants should come here legally and embrace the basic tenets of society.”

As for tariffs, they’re a game (in the mathematical sense.) Imposing tariffs on imports from protectionist countries like China (including their indirect routes) may result in them lowering some of their barriers, which would be better all round for everybody. Of course it may not result in that, but that’s a question of practicalities not a question of ideological purity.

  37. I’m scared of the right while I watch the lefties and the establishment go insane! The puritans will take back their authority much faster than they lost it. Evidence? State of Florida orders that, “In God We Trust”
placards be installed in every public building.

  38. “Who, during the centuries-long discovery and conquest of the New World, really believed that the lives of the indigenous peoples were of equal worth with those of the colonizers? ‘All men are created equal’ is an ideological statement. Where is the scientific or historic proof for it? Are we building our utopia on a sandpile of ideology and hope?” Pat Buchanan

First off, Jefferson did not articulate the concept that “All men are created equal” until well AFTER the Americas had pretty much been conquered by Europeans. Second, Buchanan clearly misunderstands Jefferson’s “self-evident truth”. One must examine contemporary conditions to understand the meaning of what Buchanan considers hollow words. British society was stratified into the various classes. There was the Nobility at the top of the heap, followed by the Landed Gentry, then Merchants and Tradespeople and lastly the poor. The situation was such that a poor person dare not even THINK of bringing an accusation against a member of the Nobility or Gentry. One Nobleman’s or Gentleman’s word could refute multiple accusations by the lower classes. Only the Nobility or Gentry were deemed fit to serve as officers in the Royal Armed Forces. And so on, and so on ad infinitum, ad nauseam. When it came right down to brass tacks, a court would take a Nobleman’s word over even a Gentleman’s. It was – AND IS – a terrible system. Jefferson understood that to be so and THAT, I submit, is why he wrote those 5 stirring words.

  39. reply to Buchanan quote continued:
When Jefferson wrote that “All men are created equal”, he wasn’t referring to health, or ability, or intelligence, or any such thing. Jefferson was saying that no man’s word is better than another’s merely because, by accident of birth, he happened to be born into the upper classes. That idea that, before the law, all men ARE equal. That civil rights accrue to us not because of our family name but because were share a common humanity.

Now I know that Jefferson’s lofty ideal has not/IS NOT always been achieved. But that does not mean we should not try to achieve so. Justice SHOULD be blind. The color of a person’s skin or their beliefs regarding ultimate reality or the size of their bank account should not determine how they are treated in a court of law. Someone needs to inform Pat Buchanan and his ilk that Jefferson’s ideal is only operational so long as WE make it so. We have to MAKE that ideal operational. I find it especially odious that Buchanan, an ordained minister and professing Christian, should be making such statements in light of a direct order from the Creator (the epistle of James chapter 2) whom he purports to worship to treat all men as equals.

  40. Why would the GOP have to rebuke the Socialists and the white supremacists? Its implied that republicans are not Lefties like the Nazis and white supremacists.

  41. Are you kidding me? What kind of crap article is this? There are bad apples on both sides but to say that republicans are “white nationalists” is absolutely rediculous. What a broad brush and not anywhere close to being based in the truth. Because you are for legal immigration does not make you a “white nationalist.” Wanting good trade deals does not make you a “white nationalist.” Thinking its stupid to kneel over BLM when ALL lives matter! Keep making shit up. No one who really is living a free life and is fighting for equal opportunity wants to hear your whiny bullshit. White people…boo hoo…white people…boo hoo. Jeez…go f-ing move to another country already. You make me want to puke.

    1. Did you get it all out of your system?. All the lies on what he wrote? The MASSIVE lies.

  42. Oh look, the lazy author has chosen to avoid the hard work of actually arguing the merits of views with which he disagrees. Instead he starts with an obviously intentional misinterpretation of various “bad” positions and finishes by smearing them with the ad hoc representation that they come from “white nationalists” and so anything associated with Nazis must be evil and wrong. Trying to win an argument with name calling is sure sign that you lack the intellectual fortitude to succeed with facts.

    1. Pot Kettle Black. How large is your Klavern?

  43. “Resurgent White Nationalism Needs Hearty, Conservative Rebuke”

There are probably more black nationalists in the US than white nationalists, probably by a factor of 10, and more open institutional hatred of whites than hatred of blacks in America.

    1. Yeah, those damn black nationalists are storming, assaulting and killing people

Look whose advocating violence and censorship.

Regarding the Nazi source narrative, do you think the censorship of the scientific and historical evidence supports or diminishes its credibility?

Do you even understand the question?

  45. “Just to be clear, I’m not saying that Trump or his supporters are racist or white nationalists. … I’m just implying it through the entire article.”

  46. “It emanates from a less-admirable overall philosophy that rails against “internationalism” in all its forms. ”

If you don’t want to be ruled by a democratically unaccountable global ruling class, you’re racist, m’kay?

  47. Well, I’m not going to go on one of my long diatribes, but the fact is the paleoconservatives are right. They have a far more realistic, pragmatic, and functionally better concept of how the world works, and how a nation ought to work.

The internationalist, universalist, and dare I say it… Utopian ideas many modern libertarians, progressives, neocons, etc have is simply wrong. It doesn’t work. Culture, ethnicity, religion, and all that jazz are MORE IMPORTANT to most people than fuzzy wuzzy ideas. This is why the nation that is an idea doesn’t actually function in reality. Good nations need to have ideas too, but they can’t be built solely on that.

In practice we see that in America only a majority of white people believe in any of the ideas America was REALLY founded on. Universalism, being an idea, it was always meant for everybody etc as nice as it all sounds in theory, wasn’t really intended. Good or bad, in most of the founders minds it was supposed to be a white (preferably Anglo-Saxon), Christian nation (but fine with weird sects) that tolerated a few people that didn’t deviate TOO FAR from those norms, and had lots of freedom for those people only.

    1. You can love it or hate it, but that was the reality. The modern notion of America as an idea that was meant for everyone was invented in 1965, and passed into law against the will of the majority of the American people. They were told “If you like your culture, you can keep it!” even though that wasn’t true… Then they were told they were evil bigots every time anybody questioned how well it was working along the way… Because it was now against the idea of America to not be for replacing the culture of America somehow…

But I digress. Other ethnicities have not adopted the American ideals of free speech, gun rights, limited government, or anything else. Majorities of every group don’t support these things. If they had I think we’d be seeing a lot fewer calls to limit immigration… But since reality is showing these people are more concerned with THEIR group interests, transferring wealth from the majority population to their people, waging culture war against the majority population, etc is it any wonder native born Americans don’t like it?w it goes!

    2. Good or bad, culture/ethnicity/religion/etc are coming back to the forefront because they’ve ALWAYS been more important to people than other stuff. Suppressing it for decades only pent it up. People prefer to have neighbors that are similar to them, or so says science. We’re reverting to the historical norm after a failed experiment in multiculturalism.

The USA is going to explode over this stuff, but if Europe gets its act together it could just be a minor speed bump over there because they don’t have 40% minority populations anywhere there yet. We’ll see how it goes!

      1. Wrong ideas bring conflict. Right ones peace.

Multiculturalism, flawed as it is, forces us to look at our own paradigms from the perspective of people with different ones.

I’ve found that we all share truth and all our conflicts come from lies.

Religions are a large part of many cultures and they are in conflict when the truth of their religious practices and beliefs need not or cannot be proven with logic or science.

The peaceful truthful solution is to say “I believe but don’t know it’s true”, and to act in accordance with truth.

If a person has faith, they don’t need to claim the unproven as truth.

        1. ^This.

How did they allow you in the door?
          /sarc

        2. But here’s the thing, a non functional idea just doesn’t work… Multiculturalism is a non functional idea. It doesn’t work.

Scientific studies show ALL races prefer, and subconsciously act differently when dealing with their people vs other people. Culture, religion, etc get tacked on top of this… And before long you have an unbridgeable gap.

Multiculturalism NEVER works. In a few historical cases where it was held together by violent force for long enough, the cultures can merge. Think Spain during and after the Muslim conquest. Spaniards are all mixed with Arab/North African blood, but their cultures and ethnicities simply blended to the point where it’s a basically a non issue.

This is a centuries long process, and it’s a shit show the whole time in between. Also, the cultures have to kind of meet in the middle. I don’t want to meet the rest of the world in the middle… Because American culture WAS superior to any other. Were Romans wrong to want to keep Roman culture vs adopting Germanic barbarian cultural norms? Hell no. Americans who want to keep America America aren’t wrong either. That these things happen to fall along ethnic lines is unfortunate, but it is what it is.

  48. “For years, I feared that the political Left’s ugly embrace of identity politics would generate an equally ugly backlash, and sure enough we’re seeing it take place”.
Why not give some concrete examples and name names? Surely the Left is made of people too?
“Obviously, the left has long been fixated on racial and ethnic politics, which has done immeasurable damage to the American idea of freedom and justice for all”.
Why not compare in detail the right’s racial and ethnic politics with the left’s, the Republicans’ with the Democrats’?
The left’s denunciation is formulaic and perfunctory, like some half-remembered childhood piety the author no longer believes in. One can tell his heart is not in it, but he has to do it for the sake of appearances.
Would “Reason” even publish such an article, if it castigated well-known leftist figures instead of the right? The freedom to criticize only goes one way. It’s a charade.

  49. Freedom and Opportunity for All…..except those dastardly “White Nationalists” – all 2-3K of them.
    All, means All!

  50. No, it needs an endorsement. Everyone else is openly racist. Whites have to defend themselves.

    1. Says Deplorable Loser

    2. +1

  51. Your NATION should always be more important than your skin colour or race, for heaven’s sake!! Anything else will just be playing into the left’s identity politics and falling into the same trap!!

    1. They BOTH play identity politics. Because both leaderships are morally and intellectually bankrupt.
And their puppets just do what they’re told anyhow

      Left – Right = Zero
