Brickbat: Don't Call

New York state Sen. Jesse Hamilton has proposed a bill that would make it a hate crime to call 911 about people people of color who are found to have committed no crime. It is already illegal in New York to make false 911 calls. Hamilton says he proposed the bill after a self-described supporter of Presdient Donald Trump called police to report him for speaking with constitutients.

This goes well with his proposal to prohibit arresting people of color before they are convicted.
I think you mean arrested before being charged. Which is already illegal. But that doesn't matter since the law doesn't apply to those who enforce it.
Police can arrest on probable cause without a charge ever being issued.
I'm pretty sure that they can detain you with probable cause, but need to tell you what you are being charged with when they arrest you. Maybe it differs from state to state.
Good point. Just like how states may treat an offense differently (civil infraction vs crime).
Nah.
Police arrest you and file a police report, but they don't file charges.
The prosecutor who gets the police report decided whether to press charges or not (sometimes using a grand jury).
What the police tell you as you're being arrested might be what eventually *leads* to charges, but it doesn't have to be.
Habeus Corpus is what says that the cops can't arrest and imprison you for unduly long before pressing charges, though "unduly long" had never been well-defined. In the US it's generally about 24 hours.
No and no. The legal definition of to "arrest" is to use legal authority to deprive a person of his/her freedom of movement. At the point that you are no longer free to walk or drive away, you have already been arrested. Handcuffs are not necessary. Depending on the context, even words may not be necessary.
There is an invented-standard of "detention" in which you are not quiet free to leave but also not yet arrested but the Supreme Court has said that "detention" must be "brief and cursory" (certainly no more than 20 minutes).
But either way, arrests and detentions happen long before you are charged.
I say we cut straight to the heart of the matter and make it a hate crime to annoy people.
Shovel. Ready. Jobs.
I'm telling y'all, it's ideal for bipartisan support.
Do that and I would be in front of a firing squad within a week...
Firing squad and quick? You must be in Indonesia.
No. I'm incredibly annoying.
I can attest to that.
Annoying with a capital "A"
Maybe you shouldn't be pitching bricks around inside your stained glass cathedral of annoying there, buddy.
Look at the big brain on bread who likes to defend sarcasmic.
*blink*
"Bread"?
That's possibly the least insulting insult I've ever received. Um. Thank you?
And you've got it backwards. I'm not defending Sarcasmic. I'm mocking you.
That was a mock? You better try harder.
I can explain what mocking is, if you need me to.
You better try harder.
Nah. You're not actually worth the effort to even insult properly.
Know what's really annoying? People like you who are too stupid to understand what words mean.
Yeah. Minarchist means nothing to everyone but you. Keep the torch lit doofus.
Yeah, that's one of the many words that you are too stupid to understand. How many times have people pointed out that you are using words incorrectly, or that they don't mean what you think they mean? Several that I have seen, which likely means many more that I haven't. Keep it up. The only one who looks like an idiot is you.
I know YOU think you understand the made up word.
That is all that matters. YOU think you know what it means and that you are happy everyone else call you an anarchist.
Sarcasmic must be really busy or really popular then, since there are 184,000 results for the term on Google.
Funny how the first thing that comes up when googling 'minarchy' is:
But lc knows better than the people who use the term. He knows that they're really anarchists, because any word that contains "archy" means anarchy. Monarchy, patriarchy, matriarchy, oligarchy... They all mean anarchy. Because lc is like soooo smart and stuff, you know?
The funniest thing is Sarcasmic and other Anarchists know that I am correct.
They are the Anarchists who use those made up words and get the looks they do.
Its kewl to be fringe though.
There are 184,000 anarchists hoping that normal people look them up?
I get it. Anarchism sucks, so you need to hide under new names.
Its like the Socialists who tried Progressive, then Liberal, and now Democratic Socialist.
Nothing is more convincing for your position than making up words to avoid bad publicity, yelling at people who interact with you, and hiding among Libertarians to tear down Libertarian positions.
Good lucks boys.
Yeah, because supporting a libertarian political philosophy is like soooo counter to libertarian positions and stuff, you know?
Here's yet another couple of words you are too stupid to understand: Libertarian and libertarian.
One is a political party, the other is a political philosophy.
Not that you are intelligent enough to understand the difference.
Ah, is that the schtick now? Anarchism is Libertarianism now?
Keep talking and spinning the web for yourself.
Own being an Anarchist and explain why its so great. Shout it from the rooftops.
We all know Tony and Buttplugger are Lefties, otherwise I would tell them to shout their Lefty ideology from the rooftop too.
Lets hear it! Why is Minarchy so great and why should Libertarians support anarchists instead of getting the USA back to tiny limited government under a Constitution that supports rule of law?
Why is Minarchy so great and why should Libertarians support anarchists instead of getting the USA back to tiny limited government under a Constitution that supports rule of law?
It's amazing. I don't think I've ever witnessed someone so utterly incapable of learning anything new.
MINARCHY ADVOCATES FOR A TINY LIMITED GOVERNMENT UNDER A CONSTITUTION THAT SUPPORTS RULE OF LAW YOU STUPID FUCK.
That's because minarchy is not anarchy.
You know how I can tell? Because I'm an anarchist. Not a minarchist. You willfully ignorant moron. Actually, that's really the worst part. You probably aren't actually unable to learn, you simply refuse to.
lmao!
https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Minarchism
"Minarchism is a political philosophy advocating the reduction of government functions to a minimum scope, providing people with only bare-bones services such as law and security. It's considered a form of libertarianism, and since it finds some useful role for the state, it's incompatible with anarcho-capitalism[.]"
Then again, I'm not sure why I'm even bothering, since apparently language isn't a tool you use for receiving information.
This is brickbat? I evidently owned sarcasmic so bad that he cried in another article.
Justifying anarchy as libertarianism all day? You guys have been busy in anarchy-land.
That would wipe out the entire h&r commentria.
I say we cut straight to the heart of the matter and make it a hate crime to annoy people of color.
FTFY. No one gives a shit if you annoy white people. Because "white privilege... intersectionality... whatever other SJW nonsense you can think of."
In fact, now that I think about, white people being annoyed is probably a sign of institutional racism or some shit and so it should also be a hate crime for white people to be annoyed at people of color.
Hamilton says he proposed the bill after a self-described supporter of Presdient Donald Trump called police to report him for speaking with constitutients.
This whole thing is too stupid not to be staged.
It he'd been speaking with *constituents*, probably.
Seriously, this kind of thing may get, um, interesting when people of pallor are in the minority.
Never underestimate the stupidity of a elected official.
Or the people who elect them.
If you see something, say something!
I see nothing, nothing!
I can't see
If you see something white, say something!
It's going to be paired with a law to make it illegal not to call 911 if you witness a potential crime.
This law will provide additional incentive for making "call 911 if you witness a potential crime" a job for a machine.
See anything, report only certain things that TOP MEN deem important not the stuff that you deem important.
Hamilton says he proposed the bill after a self-described supporter of Presdient Donald Trump called police to report him for speaking with constitutients.
FTFY.
And, spellchecker?
Isn't it passed time that we have a law that states "No minority, POC, LBGTQ, non-religious, persons of approved religion, or member of public service, can ever be suspected of, charge with or detained for, the commission of any act deemed to be otherwise criminal."
Shorter version; Only White/European hetero, Christians can be arrested.
If you start telling people what suspicious behavior they can start calling 911 for, then scale back 911 centers and give some tax money back.
Remember the tax money collected for E911?
You politicians wanted 911 expanded to handle all calls even non-emergencies and now you're complaining? Its the E911 operator's job to prioritize calls.
Funny, I thought it was already against the law to call 911 for a non-emergency, which is essentially what we're talking about here. That's why I have the regular number for my local police department in my phone's contact list, and I've only called that once in the last ten years.
Redundant laws mean stacked charges, and a greater chance of getting a plea from an innocent person.
A known criminal was found wandering the neighborhood asking questions of residents. Suspicious activity. I don't see the problem.
Homeowner privilege?
I propose a bill that would make it a hate crime to use the phrase "people of color".
I propose a bill that would make it a hate crime to use the phrase 'clinger'.
