Brickbat: Fear Factor

Mitchell Ballas has been suspended from Montana's Big Sky High School for wearing a sweatshirt with a Confederate flag after being told not to. Principal Natalie Jaeger says some students have complained that the Confederate flag makes them feel anxious and afraid.

Che shirts on the other hand just make you feel discouraged and depressed.
Makes me sad smile knowing I someone is making money off a dead commie.
Makes me want to vomit that someone is making money off a dead commie, there FIFY.
I just like the thought that someone is profiting off idiots in the reverse of what that commie stood for.
I seem to remember watching The Dukes of Hazzard on TV as a kid and their Pontiac GTO's entire roof was painted like a confederate flag. If anyone was scared, I never heard about it.
Between that, the show's constant satirizing of the police, and Daisy Duke's notable lack of clothing, I doubt that show would even be green-lighted today.
THE GENERAL LEE WAS A DODGE CHARGER.
Thank you.
A little editing would fix it right up. The police would be the good guys, constantly under pressure to reign in the red-necks but often helpless in the face of Judge Duke's rulings ? "boys will be boys." Daisy would either be a victim (heroic outsider come to educate the benighted, little knowing what she'd be up against) or the tantalizing tease the boys need to be cautious around because she's Judge Duke's side-fling.
Anti-judicial activism, anti-redneck, pseudo-feminist.
It would probably tank, but it would get green lit in a minute.
Flash would be one of those non-allergetic dogs (whatever they call them, snickerdoodles or something like that?).
Snickerdoodles are cookies. Maybe a cockapoo?
LOL, "labradoodle" is what I was looking for. Although "snickerdoodle" sounds better.
Now that I think about it, the Dukes of Hazzard might have been the most libertarian TV show of that era.
Pontiac GTO
If you can't tell the difference between a Pontiac GTO and a Dodge Charger, I'll never be able to take anything else you have to say seriously.
Agreed.
The Pontiac GTO has that shoulder thing that goes up, right?
? 3 deuces and a 4-speed and a 389 ?
Are there even any objective rules for kid's dress codes these days at school?
Not too long ago, the dress code was not cuss words and no nudity on clothing and your tits and ass needed to be covered.
That's it.
"Not too long ago, the dress code was not cuss words and no nudity on clothing and your tits and ass needed to be covered."
No cuss words is not objective.
Tits and ass need to be covered can get into very subjective arguments about where the ass begins and ends.
Short of an actual uniform, objective dress codes are unicorns.
"crap" was and is a cuss word.
If you saw tits or ass on a girl or ass on a boy then you got sent home.
It really wasn't that hard.
Even that made me sad, They tried a dress code when I was in junior high school. Everyone was happy when they got sent home for a violation. Then the school lost a lawsuit from parents. Bummer.
You know what article of clothing makes me feel anxious and afraid?
Jewel encrusted codpiece?
Padded Wonderbra?
Hipster fedora hat?
Jaunty bandana around the neck of a drug-sniffing dog?
Black dress uniforms made by Hugo Boss?
Chastity belt?
Sam Browne belt?
Elven cloak and boots?
Mormon magic underwear?
A ball gag?
A latex gimp suit?
A merkin?
Yes, FoE, I know what article of clothing makes you feel anxious and afraid. In fact, there are several, to wit:
(1) Washington Capitals 2018 NHL Eastern conference champion caps;
(2) Philadelphia Eagles 2017 Super Bowl champion sweatshirts;
(3) Philadelphia Eagles 2017 NFC Conference champion caps; and
(4) New England Patriots 2016 AFC Conference champion caps (hmm...just who did they beat in that 2016 AFC championship game?)
Thy name is snowflake.
As many people like to point out, the Confederate States of America lost that war. So why would anybody be afraid to the flag of the losers?
They aren't afraid of the flag. They are using any excuse to further the newspeak objective of the left, which is to suppress all opposition to full state control of every individual.
The Democrats were the losers. They want to get away from that history as much as possible.
Same reason why anarchists call themselves Narchists and socialists call themselves progressives. Avoid the shame of being retarded.
If a piece of fabric makes you anxious and afraid, you need to be in counseling, on the no gun list, on the no fly list, and incarcerated to protect society from your mental illness.
If you are in high school, and cannot bear being confronted with ideas different from your own, you need to be in counseling, on the no gun list, on the no fly list, and incarcerated to protect society from your mental illness.
etc
Every kid that "complained" should be forced by the Vice-principal to write a 5000 word essay on American freedoms of expression, association, and speech.
That's probably better than my notion of forcing them to get a confederate flag tattooed across their forehead.
You have obviously never seen 300 pound women in a halter top and stretch shorts.
+1 "people of Wal-Mart"
Or any local co-op, but with more hair.
Two words: Weather-beaten butterbags...
If you are in high school, and cannot bear being confronted with ideas different from your own, you should be harrassed and beaten by your peers until you get over yourselfneed to be in counseling, on the no gun list, on the no fly list, and incarcerated to protect society from your mental illness
FTFY
This seems like the right call to me. I'm sure most here would agree a shirt with a swastika on it would be inappropriate. Similarly, the Confederate flag is also a symbol of hate meant to intimidate and dehumanize certain marginalized groups.
Symbols only have the power we give them. That is what we should be teaching the kids to understand.
And the hammer and sickle? Red stars?
Hope and change.
"You can trust your car to the man who wears the Star..."
"I'm sure most here would agree a shirt with a swastika on it would be inappropriate"
Actually, most here for commenting as opposed to trolling would agree that free speech means free speech.
They're afraid of a piece of cloth? Snowflakes isn't a strong enough pejorative for these pussies.
But it may be weak enough.
When I was a kid we always wore swastikas. The Wild Angels. Just sayin'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKIhb-42iyE
170-YO student who's been left back a lot: "Ach! De rebels is back! Where my cutlass?"
A lot of foolishness here, but fact is we are steadily being purged of any and every thing that is anything more than the social and political equivalent of beige.
Beige, brownshirt, blackshirt, whatever. The point is to control the narrative in the public space, by persuasion if possible by coercion if necessary, and by violence from time just to time to maintain control.
You'd think that, nearly 50 years after the Supreme Court's decision in Tinker v. Des Moines, public school administrators would know and adhere to the settled law.
