Department of Justice Special Counsel Robert Mueller has subpoenaed the Trump Organization to hand over documents related to relationships with Russia. The order appears to be the first time Mueller has demanded information from President Donald Trump's businesses since he began the investigation.

  • The Trump administration announced a new round of sanctions against Russian hackers, spies, and trolls accused of attempting to meddle in the 2016 presidential election.
  • The Trump administration is finalizing its plan to fight opioid overdoses, and reportedly the president and White House insisting on "tough on crime" drug war measures, including attempting to seek the death penalty for drug dealers.
  • The Broward County Sheriff's Office has released security video footage of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas School shooting in Parkland, Florida, that shows the school's resource officer standing outside while the violence inside the school building unfolded.
  • The sister of South Carolina church shooter Dylann Roof was arrested for drug and weapons charges after posting on social media that she hoped students who walked out of school to protest gun violence would "get shot."
  • A recently erected, still-under-construction pedestrian bridge at Florida International University collapsed, trapping people underneath. Several deaths have been reported.

Also, BUCSie has expressed interest to run an RPG campaign on rolld20 for H&R commenters. So I want to see if there is any interest. Indicate below if you are interest and we can see whether this is worth doing. I am sure BUCSie would incorporate libertarian themes of all kinds into the campaign.

I've played in rolld20 campaigns online. Years of experience as both a DM and Player in D&D 3.0, 3.5, 5.0.

        2. silver.   7 years ago

Uhh.. sure? Never gamed before, but I think I could figure it out. How much of my bustling social life will it consume?

[oh my god a libertarian online RPG campaign I am never going to speak to a woman again]

Well, this went fast. Uh, I was thinking of doing a non-DnD RPG depending on the situation, but I don't have much idea yet.

Do people have strong preference towards the game? DnD has the advantage to being the easiest to play in many ways. Lots of fighting, that takes a long time. Do you guys have feelings about it?

          1. Ska   7 years ago

Pathfinder works well, but more difficult to build characters than 5e. If non-DnD/non-medieval fantasy, go Shadowrun.

            1. BestUsedCarSales   7 years ago

The issue I'm seeing now is we have like 15 people saying yes. Which is a huge group. I was hoping to run a more RP heavy game, I keep mentioning WoD, but I think that might not be great for a big group.

So, now I'm thinking Shadowrun, if we really want it to be Libertarian themed, Shadowrun is basically the stereotype of Libertarian future.

              1. Chipper Morning Baculum   7 years ago

BUCS, don't worry about the large number of people that expressed interest. I am sure not everyone will follow through, and not everyone will be able to make each session. I would worry about that if we are actually ready to start a session and there is a dozen people all geared up to go. If that happens, you can take the first six to show up, or something like that.

As for the game, I am up for anything, but would also prefer an RP heavy group, with some combat and puzzle solving thrown in. I've played Shadowrun, but about 20 years ago. I remember enjoying it.

        10. Charles Easterly   7 years ago

Also, BUCSie has expressed interest to run an RPG campaign on rolld20 for H&R commenters. So I want to see if there is any interest.

If enough individuals agree and can arrange to play I would like to watch the occasional game when I have the opportunity to do so, primarily due to Chipper's impression I am sure BUCSie would incorporate libertarian themes of all kinds into the campaign., which echoes my own hope. From what I understand, there are many RPGs to watch on Youtube. However, of those I have watched most of them are not worth my watching.

"Hihnmitators"? I thought we had decided the proper term was Hihnception. You know, one of those dreams where you can't wake up even though your subconscious knows that what you're seeing can't possibly be real.

      1. Red Tony   7 years ago

Hihnception is what happens to the thread. Hihmitators are the people who begin imitating Hihn after the Hihnception (or the Hihnfection, as I prefer to call it) has set in.

Tangentially related: "on January 11, 2017, [Roof] was sentenced to death for those [federal] crimes. On March 31, 2017, Roof agreed to plead guilty in South Carolina state court to all state charges pending against him?nine counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony?to avoid a second death sentence."

      Why..?

The same parents that wrote the creepy Mercenary Murder plank and smuggled it into the 2016 LP Platform? The honky kid drew the death sentence--not for plant leaves, as in Republicanworld--but for murdering a bunch of unarmed people for racial collectivism. This would be a good time to delete that voter-alienating plank and insert an Atlas Shrugged Amendment plank in its stead, no? The Republicans have their Coathanger Abortion plank, and the Dems have their Nationalize Everything plank, so what's the problem?

It's an unpopular opinion, but seriously. What about them? People say dumb shit like this on Facebook every day I'd wager. We talk about woodchipping undesirables all the time. But because she's a blood relative of a real killer and happened to have a knife and PEPPER SPRAY on campus (oh the horror) she gets nabbed. The drug charge is just a bonus.

      1. mad.casual   7 years ago

It's an unpopular opinion, but seriously. What about them?

Some of us pointed out that people calling the cops about a threat is routinely used as just cause or reasonable suspicion for everything from letting someone off with a warning to full on SWATting people but when it came to the actual shooter in Florida, we were told he was untouchable by the Police *and* the FBI because laws and rights and stuff.

IMO and on the other hand, there's plenty of reason (drink) for a jury of 12 to try and figure out if what she said constituted a threat. But, personally, the part that is really fucking scary is the 'do your thang twitter' posted over the top of Roofs' statement. I'd put good money on a Twitter-induced, State-affiliated lynching in the next 6-24 mos.

I'm telling you man, Trump's got a plan. You make this country a shithole shitholier than anything the world's ever seen and those illegal immigants from those shithole countries will stop trying to come here. Boom, problem solved, don't need no wall. With the money you save on the wall you can buy a very classy set of gold-plated pizza forks.

      1. TrickyVic (old school)   7 years ago

That was W Bush's plan but didn't work out as intended.

      2. loveconstitution1789   7 years ago

Worked for Obama. The illegals literally re-immigrated back to Mexico.

      1. Calidissident   7 years ago

I love how in denial you are about this. Trump's openly praised this policy in speeches.

        1. loveconstitution1789   7 years ago

Trump says all sorts of shit.

He's got you lefties running around with your heads cut off looking for answers.

Its like with gun control. The media said that he was for it and two weeks later, Trump never mentions it again.

          1. Calidissident   7 years ago

I love how you have no argument besides calling anyone who disagree with you a lefty who doesn't realize this is all part of Trump's genius chessgame. You overuse the term "lefties" about as bad as antifa overuses the term "fascist."

I really do love how Trump fanboys go back and forth between "Trump tells it like it is and he means what he says unlike those typical flip-flopping liar politicians!" and "He doesn't actually mean that, you're stupid for falling for that, can't you see he's just playing 4D chess here?"

I will be, or I was, depending on how you look at it. It is my intention to acquire a time machine so I can battle progtards throughout time and space. As I intend to travel to those places in time in my personal future, I have already been there (from a relativistic standpoint).

      The Dotard

You use this a lot -- favoring Kim Jong-un doesn't make you feel dirty? I mean how blinded by religion politics can you be that your prefer a mass murdering tyrant to your own President?

      1. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

It's worth noting that Thursday wasn't the first time anybody had referred to Trump as a dotard.

In May, writing in Esquire, Charles P. Pierce described the president as "a blundering dotard."

        WaPost.

        It fits. That's why.

You really think he's fallen into dotage? Didn't he just give a 2-hour state of the union. I mean... bad politics, sure, but senile? Corrupted mental faculties?

How can anyone take you zealots seriously? You proselytize lies when you don't need to make an argument. You weaken your position for nothing...

          1. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

Actually his latest rally was good politics but filled with lies and/or senility. I am sure he refers to notes on a teleprompter.

Anyone with more than a cursory knowledge of the world knows he is completely full of shit

Are most of his lies rehearsed on Fox News? Sure they are. He has a routine.

    1. loveconstitution1789   7 years ago

So the cops found the drugs and knife how? Search warrant or after arresting her for not threatening anyone?

      Maybe a voluntary search?

I wonder if police will now use her to get her brother to plead guilty or something.

Seems like a very interesting story to follow.

      1. mad.casual   7 years ago

So the cops found the drugs and knife how? Search warrant or after arresting her for not threatening anyone?

It's weird. It's like if you just call the cops about a threat, they'll swoop in and do something about it, making up things as they go along the way. But if you call the FBI, the Sheriff, other local PD, and the school things get lost in the shuffle and, you know, rights and stuff.

        1. loveconstitution1789   7 years ago

Sometimes I think it goes back to how chicken-shit cops can get.

Active shooter: cops are not going near that scene

Free speech that some retard calls in as a threat: cops bring SWAT team and and commence the violations of civil rights to get a conviction

        1. mad.casual   7 years ago

Do you think it needs to be pedophiles or is it just a generic form of masochism (Ain't it weird that we live in a culture that lumps masochism in with sadism and doesn't blink but finds any shade cast on homosexuals or transexuals to be unequivocal homo/transphobia)?

          1. StackOfCoins   7 years ago

I think it's unfortunate we have zealots like Donovan eager to make owning some plastic a crime. Also unfortunate is how readily people shit on folks who have what is essentially a forbidden sexuality, but have harmed no children. It's essentially thought crime, and the Donovans of the world think they're Minority Report.

?The Broward County Sheriff's Office has released security video footage of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas School shooting in Parkland, Florida, that shows the school's resource officer standing outside while the violence inside the school building unfolded.

Well, that's one way to string up a scape goat.

  19. loveconstitution1789   7 years ago

A recently erected, still-under-construction pedestrian bridge at Florida International University collapsed, trapping people underneath. Several deaths have been reported.

I pick April 1 for the school walkout for common sense bridge control. That bridge probably killed more people than the school shooting.

    1. Ken Shultz   7 years ago

A new bridge collapse like that is inexcusable. It's one thing if an old bridge isn't maintained or inspected properly.

Not building, designing, or inspecting new stuff is nuts. Look for union and/or government complacency.

There was $300 million in construction done on a part of City Center in Las Vegas that got more than 10 stories off the ground before they realized that the rebar in the concrete didn't match what was on the plan. I heard a talk from one of the engineers they tried to get to sign off on that project.

The rebar they had would only have supported half the stories they had approved to build. Can you imagine?

This situation is probably like Ayn Rand's train stuck in the tunnel. Not one person who fucked up, but a whole system of people.

      1. Jerryskids   7 years ago

The university's engineering school has an "accelerated bridge" program that works on techniques to speed up bridge construction. The program consulted with builders, designers and engineers early in the process, but was not closely involved in the pedestrian bridge program, a spokeswoman said last week.

Funny, when I looked up stories on the bridge being put in place last week, it sounded very much like the ABC program at FIU was taking credit for the bridge.

      2. loveconstitution1789   7 years ago

Maybe its engineers suck these days.

In my county, they tore up the old two lane and added a new two lane concrete road on each side for about a mile. Next thing I know they are tearing up that new concrete road. I still cannot get the county to admit what the mistake was. I think the contractor fucked up and ate the cost.

I saw a static at the WSJ that says 1 million elementary and secondary students in 50 states held more than 1,600 demonstrations against guns yesterday. Big numbers are scary impressive. There are other, bigger numbers though.

A quick statistics check suggests that means 54 million students in 50 states did nothing out of the ordinary.

    54 million/55 million = 98.2%.

Seattle Soda tax... WHAT'S GOING ON?!!

Take coconut water, for example. Jones found coconut water being sold at a Seattle shop with a sugar tax included in the price. But that drink should be not be subject to the tax. It has no added sugars. At the same time, an Odwalla protein shake had no extra charge because drinks with milk as a main ingredient are exempt.

"According to the city, (coconut water) is not supposed to be taxed," Jones said. "The problem is the distributor got it wrong. Or the store got it wrong and it was still charging people the tax for it."

"It just blows me away that 47 grams of sugar (in an Odwalla drink) ?" he said. "This is crazy. At the same time, milk is a no. 1 product. You start to think as to why they wouldn't (tax milk drinks)? ? This is just me extrapolating here. But what other business in town sells a lot of sugary drinks with milk in it?"

    The answer is Starbucks.

    1. Diane Reynolds (Paul.)   7 years ago

"The other thing we heard ? the city is not sure when they are going to start auditing," he said. "We are told: 'it might be this quarter, it might be next quarter. If we see something alarming we might do it now.' We don't even know when the auditors are going to start checking."

Jones also attempted to have city council members explain the soda tax and answer some of the confusion. He questions the logic of the soda tax. It will hit poor residents most, yet is sold as a means to fund healthier food options for that same demographic.

"We tried to talk with every member of council," Jones said. "Everyone is either too busy for a very long time or declined to speak to us. That's a problem to me. You have seven folks who voted for it and every single one doesn't want to talk to us. That's an issue."

OT: My alma mater is having a mass shooting "town hall," and a leader from one of my state's 2A groups is a panelist, and the other three are anti-2A. AFAIK it's only open to students, but I can probably flash my ID and get in so that it's not completely stacked with anti-2A folks, but on the off-chance I can ask a question, I don't want to be hit with a bike lock and put in a coma when I try to leave.

I think the hivemind self-repression is doing its job.
