Mexico and Canada are exempt.

Hello.
Tariffs are bad but it would have been absurd to apply them on Canada and Mexico.
Especially Canada - we have hydro and water after all. And syrup. Many much sweet, sweet syrup for saps.
You forgot to apologize for all the syrup.
I will NEVER apologize for that.
Ever.
Will you apologize for letting so much of your strategic syrup reserved get stolen a few years back?
Hope you enjoyed that brief period of additional income from that tax deal!
As long as I end up revenue neutral.
So, like a date for you?
The United States issued a travel warning for tourists visiting Playa del Carmen in Mexico due to information about a "security threat." Mexican officials insist everything's fine and don't know why the U.S. sent out the alert.
We're not sending out best alerts.
The amount of dysentery experienced was completely within expected range.
By Mexican officials, they mean drug cartel.
He even allegedly pulled somebody over for a traffic violation, but let them off with a warning.
Switch him out with the real thing.
Pictures have been found of this criminal thug petting a dog as well.
The machine uprising begins.
"In rare circumstances, Alexa can mistakenly hear the phrase 'Alexa, laugh,'" Nate Michel, a spokesman for Amazon, wrote in an email. "We are changing that phrase to be 'Alexa, fart.'
Robot farts sound like human laughter.
And robot laughter sounds like humans being stomped, shredded, and shot with lasers.
Followed by a binary solo.
Not binary or solo enough.
Heh,
binary
solo
It is the ultimate joke. Humans make comedy, humans build robot, robot ends all life on earth, robot feels awkward. EXTERMINATE!
Mexican officials insist everything's fine and don't know why the U.S. sent out the alert.
Nork ICBM's inbound!
California lawmakers should be thanking ICE for helping them deport "public safety threats."
ICE is deporting politicians now? Sweet!
Well played.
Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Thomas Homan says California lawmakers should be thanking ICE for helping them deport "public safety threats."
Maybe if Trump re-registers Democrat.
A 14-year-old California teen is accused of posing as sheriff's deputy to try to get into people's homes.
Police became suspicious when no dogs were shot.
Okay, that's hilarious.
A 14-year-old California teen is accused of posing as sheriff's deputy to try to get into people's homes.
How are we supposed to respond appropriately without knowing his race and immigration status?
SEXIST!
Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) says he's going to introduce legislation to "nullify" the tariffs.
Making American steel illegal.
Shouldn't Tim Scott and Lindsey Graham be the ones threatening to nullify the tariffs?
Trump does bear an uncanny resemblance to Old Hickory.
Video game, Inside, is teaming with Real Doll for a mysterious special edition.
Considering Playdead is known for it's games filled with existential angst, I think giving me a fake woman to fuck and cry over is completely on brand.
How did these companies end up in this arrangement?
I imagine there is enough crossover on fans that this is a no brainer.
To the degree that even the price point seems calculated to correlate well with the amount a number of fans have personally saved, thus far, for the purchase of an actual RealDoll.
Looking forward to bidding on Amelia's bones on eBay.
Gonna need an eBay Platinum Reserve account for that one.
I don't want anything fancy. Just a phalanx will do.
The bones are lost. These guys never saw them. The story is crap. They're paid by a foundation that seems to exist just to pay the head $200k a year to try to find her on that island.
It's not clear yet whether he killed himself or was killed by police.
Care to hazard a guess?
Is there a difference? If the police kill you, it's because you were asking for it.
"Get visited by police like a thug, die like a thug."
Did I get that right?
It's late to be posting in the PM Links, but if you read the story it doesn't appear the cops did anything wrong other than knock on the wrong door. They inquired, the resident said she was alone--which she lied--then they asked if they could come in as part of a routine check--since they didn't know they had been sent to the wrong house--and she let them in. Then her meth fiend friend started shooting.
If the cops did kill this guy, he asked for it. It wasn't some misunderstanding on the part of the residents, and there seems to be zero evidence that the cops did anything more than would be expected of them in a sane and civil society.
Massive MIT Twitter study indicates that people prefer sharing fake news.
Especially if it effectively utilizes pathos (feelz) and induces disgust or fear. This result should be surprising to exactly 0 Reasonoids.
But to do that, Vosoughi and his colleagues had to answer a more preliminary question first: What is truth? And how do we know?
I think they're burying the lede on this one if they've finally answered "What is truth?"
Ugh, I'm going to have to read this study I just know it.
You can just wait to see if it goes viral. If it does, it's probably methodologically flawed.
Did I causation right?
There's already some questionable issue, like that there determination of truth was based on referring to a small set of sources, such as Politifact and Snopes.
That being said, I'll have to read the damn article. It's sociology too, so I bet it's going to be a damn journal article.
I was skeptical about Politifact and Snopes, too. They are not "ultimate arbiters of truth" any more than a religious text. They're resources written by flawed, biased humans, and those two in particular have a left lean.
I am a bad writer, and I have difficulty elucidating my thoughts. We all know this. I really wish I could write well so that I could say everything about the epistemological issues of this article.
I will point out that above all else, the world ending fear of false news is pushed by the traditional power structures of 'truth'.
The overview at MIT's website.
I assume you can find the full study somewhere behind a paywall.
I am a bad writer, and I have difficulty elucidating my thoughts.
We're on H&R. All of us are.

Nice, Science. Means it will be both short and easy to understand.
See, I think probably you've just read too many dense technical papers and not enough froofy feelz articles to be a writer that stirs emotion. My "good" writing, as determined by laymen, is verbose and casual, and if I'd used it in school I would've failed.
I save my best stuff for other sites.
I save my best stuff for my journals. I promise.
If any of us were good writers we'd be the one commented on, not the ones commenting.
Some political scientists also questioned the study's definition of "news."
WHAT IS REALITY?!
The spreading of information about the [quantum] system through the [classical] environment is ultimately responsible for the emergence of "objective reality."

Mexican officials insist everything's fine and don't know why the U.S. sent out the alert.
Well, that Hawaiian missile guy has to work *somewhere*.
It's the boldest move to date for the president
with emphasis on "to date".
Her height is entirely consistent with the bones. The skull measurements are at least suggestive of female.
There are no biological differences between...
The skull measurements are 34-24-36?
Love those pear-shaped skulls.
height is entirely consistent with the bones
That's what she said
A judge is recommending that President Donald Trump "mute" rather than block people on Twitter to attempt to resolve a First Amendment challenge.
Does the judge understand that Trump can't actually block someone from all of Twitter?
This is the dumbest political theory since 13 russian trolls undermined Western Democracy.
Had to google: If Trump muted a user, he would not see that user's tweets, but the user could still see and respond to the president's tweets.
I don't think Trump is going to go for that. Giving some asshat the last word? That's not MAGA.
Seems like the judge knows she can't side with the plaintiff but really, really doesn't want to side with Trump.
Does the feature actually turn people into mutes? I fear its use in the hands of our every-expanding imperial presidency, but at the same time I feel the urge to open an account myself.
FAKE NEWS Shackleford strikes again
RTFA, whydontcha?
Scientists didn't find shit.
You know who else's bones were lost....
Richard Jantz, an anthropology professor at the University of Tennessee, determined the bones found nearly 80 years ago "have more similarity to Earhart than to 99% of individuals in a large reference sample," a university statement said.
So out of the earths population of 3 billion at that time then only 30,000,000 people would be a match to the sample.
Do you know who else wanted to impose exorbitant tariffs on imports?
Lincoln?
Nailed it!
A 14-year-old California teen is accused of posing as sheriff's deputy to try to get into people's homes.
Well, did they respect his authoritah?
A judge is recommending that President Donald Trump "mute" rather than block people on Twitter to attempt to resolve a First Amendment challenge.
This is not a 1A issue...
Excuse me, sir, could you please keep your voice down? This is a family restaurant.
I'm finishing my coffee...
"A judge is recommending that President Donald Trump "mute" rather than block people on Twitter to attempt to resolve a First Amendment challenge."
That's actually a good idea.
Fuck that. Block 'em. How many divisions does that judge have?
He need not worry regardless. Since Trump has made up with Golanzo Curiel, he will have the Ej?rcito Mexicano at his back.
In the short term it would be.
OTOH, it would be good to get this question settled once and for all so I'm all for Trump continuing on here.
1. If they're a public safety threat then they must have done something dangerous - so why do they get deported instead of tried and jailed?
2. If a dude beats the shit out of me and then bandages me up afterwards, he shouldn't expect me to be grateful for the medical attention.
3. The issue here, which every one of these dickbags deliberately tries to get ignored, is that its a *ratio* thing - how much damage does ICE do to regular Americans compared to the damage done by the things they are working to prevent? The DEA, for example, is vastly more dangerous to Americans and does more damage every year than all of the Mexican Cartels combined - but because they put a handful of murderers behind bars every year we're supposed to thank them?
If they're a public safety threat then they must have done something dangerous
Not necessarily. Someone who is about to do something dangerous for the first time is a public safety threat.
Those people are normally not arrested until after they do the something dangerous. We still don't have a Department of Pre-Crime. Yet.
