The New Horizon spacecraft captured photos of Earth from a record 3.8 billion miles away.

    I had my eyes shut.

      Hello.

"All 71 passengers on a plane that crashed near Moscow died, according to government officials."

      Does Trump have an alibi?

It's ok that your eyes were shut since New Horizons did not actually take a picture of Earth. Ed got that part wrong. The significance of these images is that they are the farthest away any picture has ever been taken and then transmitted back to Earth.

  2. Fist of Etiquette   7 years ago

North Korea sent the sister of Kim Jong Un to the Olympics on a "charm offensive" for which some U.S. media fell.

Holy shit did they fall for it. Hard.

    1. Rhywun   7 years ago

She couldn't possibly be charming enough to make me tune in to coverage of anything not hockey.

  3. Citizen X - #6   7 years ago

The New Horizon spacecraft captured photos of Earth from a record 3.8 billion miles away.

Ugh. You can still see Chris Christie.

    1. Libertarian   7 years ago

Good. He serves the same purpose as bright colors on poisonous frogs.

    2. Troglodyte Rex   7 years ago

Ugh. You can still see Chris Christie.

Henceforth known as "The Fat Sack of Fat".

      1. Eek Barba Durkle   7 years ago

I've been calling him that, exclusively, for years.

One of my favorite insults, though I don't remember if it comes from the Simpsons, or an SNL Judge Judy skit.

        1. Troglodyte Rex   7 years ago

          SNL

...PyeongChang has opened four Gender Equality Support Centers to deal with sexual assault and abuse.

Title IX investigations of olympic proportions.

    1. Mickey Rat   7 years ago

Don't forget the 200+ creepy cheerleaders the NK sent over, taking up rows of seats in the hockey arena.

      1. Rhywun   7 years ago

They had to tone it down from the 50,000 or so that cheer during rallies at home.

  5. Fist of Etiquette   7 years ago

The attorney general of New York has filed a lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein, accusing him of civil rights violations...

So Weinstein was a state agent at some point?

    1. Cyto   7 years ago

That jarred me immediately as well. Since when is a dumpy troll of a Hollywood producer in charge of anyone's rights? And exactly how is offering something of value in exchange for sexual gratification a civil rights violation? That sounds suspiciously like good old-fashioned prostitution. Is it because he offered a bartered exchange instead of cash?

      1. MarkLastname   7 years ago

Bartering is a violation of the federal government's civil right to a monopoly on currency.

      2. Old Mexican - Mostly Harmless   7 years ago

        Re: Cyto,

Since when is a dumpy troll of a Hollywood producer in charge of anyone's rights?

Since the CRA 1964 abolished property rights and turned jobs or trades into rights.

  6. Fist of Etiquette   7 years ago

Kellyanne Conway says John Kelly, the White House chief of staff, shouldn't be fired over Rob Porter, an aide who resigned over multible spousal abuse accusations.

    So we know Porter's guilty?

    1. Citizen X - #6   7 years ago

What difference, at this point, does it make?

    2. Old Mexican - Mostly Harmless   7 years ago

      Re: Fist of Etiquette,

      So we know Porter's guilty?

He's guilty of lying. Whether he's guilty of spousal abuse or not matters not. Albeit it would be difficult to believe the man treated his ex-wives with kindness if both are saying the man is violent and one of them presented photographic evidence.

  7. Fist of Etiquette   7 years ago

The government of the United Kingdom has demanded the charity Oxfam provide documents on staff who paid for sex in post-earthquake Haiti, amid accusations of a cover-up.

Sex workers need your charity not your employment.

  8. Domestic Dissident   7 years ago

Yes!! It looks like congress is finally going to go after John Brennan.

Get this Deep State coup plotting motherfucker.

    1. CatoTheChipper   7 years ago

      YES, indeed!

    2. Libertarian   7 years ago

Well, somebody has to investigate this stuff. Can't wake up Sessions so that he can get to work.

      1. This Machine Chips Fascists   7 years ago

Sessions is as woke as he's ever gonna get. He's focused on the Session's obsession, bad evil satanic drugs. The worst kind of drugs.

    3. Conchfritters   7 years ago

I imagine it will go down the same as that time he lied before Congress.

  9. Conchfritters   7 years ago

the sister of Kim Jong Un

Someone in the media should have asked her about that time her brother had her uncle eaten by hungry dogs, or when he had her other brother assasinated while on vacation in Malaysia.

    1. Fist of Etiquette   7 years ago

You must be mistaken. Those are things Pence did.

      1. Conchfritters   7 years ago

Plausible. I figure he just had to be doing something when his wife wasn't around.

  10. $park? leftist poser   7 years ago

The New Horizon spacecraft captured photos of Earth from a record 3.8 billion miles away.

The spooky part is that photo was transmitted 200 years ago.

    1. mad.casual   7 years ago

The photos are coming from inside the Solar System! Get out!

    2. Griffin3   7 years ago

And then they will send a picture from a record 3.9 billion miles away. And 4 billion miles! and 4.1 billion miles.

NASA sure has this incremental release / stay in the current news to justify our funding cycle down pat.

  11. Conchfritters   7 years ago

The attorney general of New York has filed a lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein, accusing him of civil rights violations.

I think it was well established that monster never hit on people of color.

    1. Rhywun   7 years ago

Who cares? There's ladder climbin' to do.

  12. Libertarian   7 years ago

"Never before have images been captured as far from Earth as these."

    THAT WE KNOW OF.

    1. Mickey Rat   7 years ago

It is a very nice picture of an indistinguishable dot.

    2. Cyto   7 years ago

      Well played!

    3. $park? leftist poser   7 years ago

By the time they realize that some aliens taped a picture of the stars to the camera lens it will be too late.

  13. lap83   7 years ago

The attorney general of New York has filed a lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein, accusing him of civil rights violations

I'm just a yokel from a flyover state, so maybe that's why nothing in this sentence makes sense to me

    1. Rhywun   7 years ago

"The attorney general of New York ..."

All you need to know is that anything that follows is intended to get him into higher office.

    2. This Machine Chips Fascists   7 years ago

It's possible that NY state constitution guarantees some rights and/or privileges not secured by that federal one.

  14. Stormy Dragon   7 years ago

In Trump's latest public relations masterstroke, he deports the father of a five year old dying from cancer:

ICE trying to deport dad of Phoenix 5-year-old with cancer, lawyer says

    1. Scarecrow Repair & Chippering   7 years ago

There you go! Proof positive that not only is this illegal immigrant stealing public money for his son, but bragging about it to the point of using it as leverage to remain in this country illegally.

I thought all such stories were hokum but now I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT. All immigrants are scum, whether illegal like the procreating father or legal like his five kids.

      THANK YOU JESUSDONALD

    2. Cy   7 years ago

Breaking! This just in: In another liberal top Story ICE is actually doing their job.

Deficit poised to reach 1 trillion dollars in 2019

So, is it time to buy a home with a moat and convert my 401k money into gold bullion and Swiss Francs? Or is that just under a center-left Democrat?

    1. Kivlor   7 years ago

It's always time to buy a home with a moat.

    2. Citizen X - #6   7 years ago

If you do buy a home, remember to pay your mortgage this time.

  16. Philadelphia Collins   7 years ago

The deficit isn't mentioned when a lefty is in the White House.

  17. Diane Reynolds (Paul.)   7 years ago

The attorney general of New York has filed a lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein, accusing him of civil rights violations

Wouldn't they, you know, arrest him if he raped women?

  18. FreeRadical   7 years ago

New Horizons seems far away until you realize that it's only 0.06% of a light-year away. Or that it has to go 6300 times farther to reach the nearest star.

  19. the other other alan   7 years ago

The last item is wrong, though the source article headline is quite misleading. New Horizons did take any pictures of Earth. It took pictures of other objects while being the furthest away from Earth. Pale Blue Dot is still the most distant image of Earth there is.
