Rob Porter Debacle Caps Off One Year of Needless White House Turmoil
Porter's record of domestic abuse elicited scant notice or concern from his superiors.

English monarchs are often known by their names and their most conspicuous traits, from William the Conqueror and Richard the Lion-Hearted to Bloody Mary and Edward Longshanks. If presidents followed that custom, the incumbent could borrow his title from the medieval king Ethelred, going down in history as Donald the Unready.
President Trump has an assortment of grave flaws: a conspiratorial mindset, an irrepressible streak of racial and religious bigotry, thin skin, and consuming narcissism. But no characteristic dominates this administration more thoroughly than his fundamental incompetence.
The case of staff secretary Robert Porter is damning not just because of his importance in the White House but because his record of domestic abuse elicited scant notice or concern from his superiors. It stemmed from a series of failures by multiple staffers and ended in a debacle.
As The Washington Post reported, "Porter was kept in a key role in which he had access to classified information and helped determine which articles and policy proposals made it to the president's desk while top Trump officials were aware for months of at least some of the serious allegations against him."
When more information about the allegations of violence came to light, chief of staff John Kelly staunchly defended him. It took a shocking photo of one ex-wife with a black eye to force the White House to finally cut him loose.
Porter got his job under Trump's first chief of staff, Reince Priebus, and continued under his second, Kelly. Neither did the due diligence that should have occurred when his security clearance didn't come through—or else they didn't think the allegations were any big deal. They either failed to inform themselves or didn't act on what they learned.
Priebus, notorious for his inability to impose order on Trump's schedule, visitors or decision-making process, eventually got the ax. Kelly has proved the wisdom of past chiefs who did their best to stay out of the limelight. Nearly every time he has voiced his opinions—on the Civil War, on treatment of women, on the "dreamers"—he has sounded like a callous fool. The serious mistakes the two have made speak volumes about Trump's judgment in hiring them.
No White House in memory has generated more needless turmoil in its first year. Think of all the Trump underlings who have flamed out: national security adviser Michael Flynn, chief strategist Steve Bannon, labor secretary nominee Andrew Puzder, press secretary Sean Spicer, communications director-designate Anthony Scaramucci, counterterrorism adviser Sebastian Gorka, Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price and public liaison Omarosa Manigault Newman.
If Trump had his way, Attorney General Jeff Sessions would also be gone, and possibly Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. Most of his departed appointees left with their reputations, not necessarily sterling at the start, in ruins.
Brookings Institution fellow Kathryn Dunn Tenpas calculated that first-year turnover among his senior officials was 34 percent. That's worse than any of his past five predecessors had—and double that of Ronald Reagan, who had the second-highest rate.
Many of those who have stayed are not exactly an advertisement for Trump's executive savvy. His Middle East envoy, Jared Kushner, got the job by marrying the boss's daughter—and still doesn't have a security clearance. Ben Carson is about as qualified to run the Department of Housing and Urban Development as he is to teach ballet.
Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke opened up nearly all of the East and West coasts to offshore drilling, only to clumsily backtrack to make an exception for Florida Gov. Rick Scott, a Republican considered likely to run for the U.S. Senate.* Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen told a Senate committee she didn't know whether Norway is predominantly white.
Trump's blunders have alternated between tragedy and farce. His administration could have been invented by comedy writers as an uproarious departure from reality. But trashing the environment, flirting with nuclear conflagration and enabling neo-Nazis could be funny only as fiction.
A corporate chief executive who exhibited such mystifying priorities and rampant sloppiness, as well as a penchant for bad hires and constant turmoil, would be evicted without delay. But anyone so badly prepared to be a CEO would never get the job in the first place.
The president brings to mind what the 19th-century British statesman Benjamin Disraeli said when he was told that one colleague was out of his depth. "Out of his depth? He's 3 miles from shore!" When Trump sinks, he may take us all with him.

Kistjen Nielsen has the most Norwegian name ever and she doesn't know if Norway is majority white? I love this White House! Too funny.

Mr. Chapman. You should not needlessly speak about things you do not understand. Like security clearances.
1) The fact Kushner does not have a clearance (if true) is not surprising. Even for squeaky clean people the process takes 6 months to a year. With lots of foreign travel, lots of foreign friends, lots of foreign business contacts, his clearance will probably take forever. Which is why they have his fantastic thing called an interim clearance which he probably has been granted by direction of his boss (Trump). Again, a totally normal process considering how long they take to acquire. That being said, it probably doesn't help he was already caught lying / "forgetting" on his paperwork.
2) "Neither did the due diligence that should have occurred when his security clearance didn't come through?or else they didn't think the allegations were any big deal."
Again, clearances take forever to be approved. The fact this dude does not have one yet would not even come up on the radar for Kelley, let alone Trump. Furthermore, whatever is going on with his clearance is between him and the investigators, not him and his office. It is not his coworkers business what is going on in his personal life and your boss would never snoop into this, it is the business of the security clearance investigator. The boss waits for the final determination, the up or down vote on the clearance. He doesn't snoop, he doesn't pry, he waits. Shit takes forever, it is the government.
Chapman is (unsurprisingly) wrong about the facts. Kushner has an interim security clearance.
My guess is that Chapman half-read a screed in Newsweek on that issue, where it is claimed (via the ubiquitous anonymous sources) that Kushner omitted 100 Russian contacts from his SF86.
Yep. I was in the military for most of a year before my Secret clearance was granted. The higher the clearance, the longer it takes.
Hell, *I* had an interim clearance - as an E-4.
"Neither did the due diligence that should have occurred when his security clearance didn't come through?or else they didn't think the allegations were any big deal."
This one is the most misunderstood point, based on most of the complaints I'm hearing. The clearances do take a long time, and when they uncover a problem it's not like they go around telling everyone what happened. I think a lot of people have this idea that the boss is the one sitting down with an employee to go over his record, looking for instances of wife-beating and the like to determine if he's able to get a clearance.
I got my full TS/SCI clearance in 6 months. They don't always take forever.
More TDS nonsense from Chapman.
President Trump has an assortment of grave flaws: a conspiratorial mindset, an irrepressible streak of racial and religious bigotry, thin skin, and consuming narcissism. But no characteristic dominates this administration more thoroughly than his fundamental incompetence.
Trump seems to be correct that Obama and Hillary were spying on him to prevent him from winning the election.
Even with all the supposed incompetence, Trump has accomplished more Libertarian-ish rolling back of government than any president in probably 100 years.
Funny though, you don't see incompetence in many of the past presidents and governments.
Why not just admit you embrace the Trump administration's stale thinking and bigotry, and that of his downscale army of half-educated goobers, rather than dancing around the point?
Racist! Bigot! Stupid!
Over and over and over again.
No one listens to that shit anymore, my friend. You and your kind have dangerously diluted those words into meaninglessness.
Stale-thinking old people are tired of being called bigots. (This is because one of the great achievements of America's liberal-libertarian alliance is causing bigots to no longer wish to be known as bigots, at least not in public. This is an important change -- a half-century ago, bigotry was open, and casual, and common, and the bigots wanted people to know of their intolerance.)
Young, educated people in successful, modern communities, however, observe and despise bigotry as the Republican Party is branded with intolerance, ignorance, and corruption, and those young people will be voting in America for many decades.
Carry on, clingers. While you still can. Until you take your stale thinking to the grave, improving the American electorate by leaving it.
Another obviously anti-Trump biased article written by one of many leftist writers at Reason. With all of the blatant criminal and treasonous activities that were rampant during Obama's eight years in office, you choose to totally ignore these and focus on bashing Trump. I'm not saying Trump and his administration are perfect but their flaws are insignificant compared with the outrageous Obama/Clinton criminal cabal. Go fuck yourself.
Fucking leftist scum.
What's it like being a polyp on Hannity's scrotum?

"What's it like being a polyp on Hannity's scrotum?"
You'll have to tell us, asshole.
Still nothing at all from the Reason fugazis about the New York Times bomb that dropped on Friday, naturally.
BUT BOOSH...wait a minute
blatant criminal and treasonous activities that were rampant during Obama's eight years in office
BENGHAZI!! BLOOP! ARRRGGGHHHHH! DERP!
Did you keep your doctor, turd?
FISA abuse should be like porn to a libertarian magazine.
Instead, it is all Trump bashing, virtue-signaling from Reason. That market is more than saturated. I can't tell if Reason is bought and paid for, if they believe they can convert statists into libertarians, or if they are simply this vapid and tone-deaf.
...but but but Obama!
Obama isn't the president.
Trump is.
Pay attention to the present. The past is no longer relevant, save for it's educational and predictive validity.
Please fee free to out yourself as a racist bigot who wants to go back to taxpayers funding segregated schools, like DeVos and Trump. That's what freedom of speech is for - to allow everyone to out themselves as the aholes they are, so that the rest of us know who we're dealing with.

No White House in memory has generated more needless turmoil in its first year.
I wonder if that has something to do with the constant attacks from the press and the illegal surveillance and extralegal Mueller fishing expedition scaring better candidates for those offices away?
I agree - the big meanies in the press should stop being mean to the current occupants of the White House.
If all they were doing was asking tough questions and doing investigative reporting, that would be fine. I would just wonder why they took an 8 year break from doing so for the previous administration.
But they're flat-out lying and engineering "scandals" that turn out to be nothingburger.
But they're flat-out lying and engineering "scandals" that turn out to be nothingburger.
Rob Porter's ex-wives didn't accuse him of abusive behavior?
not only that, but its proof of Trump's racial and religious bigotry!
Accusations are not convictions, and there are severe ulterior motives present during divorce proceedings.
Funny how you turn on a dime when we move from college accusations to Trump-targeting accusations.
Funny how you turn on a dime when we move from college accusations to Trump-targeting accusations.
Did I?
So you think that accusations=convictions on campus too? At least you're consistent.
I wasn't aware I said he should be convicted of anything.
No, just treated as if he had been convicted.
I would just wonder why they took an 8 year break from doing so for the previous administration.
That's easy. They liked Obama politically and personally. They hate Trump. But if Trump is guilty of something the motivations for uncovering it really don't matter.
Certainly true, and after more than a year of seaching, they've found he's guilty of being Donald Trump.
To turd and Tony, that's an impeachable offense. They're both fucking idiots, of course.
He is guilty of a lot of shit -- adultery against his former wives, eminent domain abuse, probably greasing palms for real estate and casino purposes -- but it's all stuff that everybody knew about before the election, so fairly pointless.
It's not pointless. It demonstrates Trump voters are disaffected, substandard hypocrites.
Gee... I wonder why the disaffected hate the left so much. It's a complete mystery!
I wish they'd be more consistent. When his predecessor was spying on reporters AND THEIR PARENTS', the media didn't seem that upset.
The constant attacks by the press are a result of Trump's incompetence, not the cause of it. But hey, E for effort there, partner.
As for the rest of it, are you fishing for a job in the White House or something?
I will forever remember the Jake Tapper interview with Steven Miller as the time in my life where I was sure editorializing has become more fashionable than news. Tapper could not even contain his contempt on air when Miller was near him for two minutes, why should we suppose he will be more fair when he is farther away?
I think this is a fair representation of most big league news. Just straight editorializing and invective.
It was plain Mr. Tapper thought little of Mr. Miller.
I blame Mr. Tapper's education and decency.
I wonder if that has something to do with the constant attacks from the press...
I love the completely un-ironic way that commenters on a libertarian website have no conception of "the press" except as some kind of amorphous entity with a will and agenda of its own.
No, look - the press consists of a bunch of businesses. If they didn't produce what people wanted to read/view, they wouldn't do that any more - they'd change their coverage. The fact of the matter is that the right has pretty much dialed themselves out of the public discourse by scurrying to whatever echo chamber chooses to affirm their self-righteous views of themselves - for free. Meanwhile people on the left do things like pay newspaper subscriptions, donate to NPR, etc. It's just the economy, baby.
and the illegal surveillance and extralegal Mueller fishing expedition scaring better candidates for those offices away?
Nothing in the Nunes memo (or anywhere else) has established that the Trump campaign was ever illegally surveilled. Similarly, the description of the Mueller investigation as "extralegal" just betrays your total ignorance of what the terms you're mashing together actually mean.
Who still believes or claims this is a libertarian website? Mostly conservatives in unconvincing libertarian drag, so far as I can determine.
Ahh yes, we have a True Scotsman.
I am not sure how you would expect a platform to succeed without an infusion of new people with wide ranging ideas. It is not like the LP has been a raging success over the past century, perhaps these new people should be embraced instead of scorned. Furthermore, I would expect "libertarians" to be less self righteous about ownership of titles and what makes one a libertarian.
If you figure libertarianism needs a big dose of authoritarian right-wing backwardness, childish superstition, diffuse bigotry, and belligerent ignorance, have fun!
I was once upbraided by a relative because I had given her Thomas the Tank Engine chocolate lollipops for Xmas stocking stuffers. Didn't I know that T.T.T.E. was a Disney property and Disney recognized spousal benefits for gays?
Fuck me. No, and I din't care. Did she care if the guy who delivered the package was gay or not, or whether his company recognized spousal benefits? How about the crew that paved her road or built her house or supplied the lumber which built her house?
I will bet there are literally millions of abusive people in the country, and a lot of them have positions of authority or hold security clearances. Does Mr ChapAss have a squeaky clean record? I bet he's had a few screaming yelling arguments with various folk, including his family. Does any of that have anything to do with his qualifications for his job?
Fuck if I care whether Trump's stuff have squeaky clean records. I didn't care about Obama, Bush, Clinton, and so on either. There are far more important aspects of government to worry about than whether flunkies have squeaky clean records.
Does Mr ChapAss
BOOM
Dude, the guy is accused of physical abuse. Accusations don't equal guilt, but we're not talking about minor indiscretions.
If Porter had a good explanation for that black eye on his wife, and isn't the kind of substandard man who hits his wife, why didn't he offer it? Is he a sissyboy coward?
It has been reported that Kelly knew he was overseeing a serial abuser in the White House, which is inherently unprofessional and beyond that creates security issues. The fuse likely has already been lit for Kelly. At this rate, it will be just Ivanka, Jared, Hope, and Pres. Trump soon. They might have to bring the Mooch back to cover the third shift during vacation season.
Carry on, clingers.
"Accused" being the operative word. How many rape hoaxes have been in the news recently?
And let's engage in a bit of whataboutism while we're at it. How many times did Hillary lie to cover Bill's rapes? How many times did that entire administration gang up on actual rape victims, from Arkansas to the White House, knowingly berate rape victims for having the temerity to risk disrupting the country perilous course yada yada yada?
Fuck 'me all.
BUT HILLARY! BUT HILLARY! SQUAWK! SQUAWK!
Thomas the Tank Engine is flagrant monarchist propaganda. Any time any of the engines show any creativity or individuality instead of following orders, it ends in disaster.
Fuck if I care whether Trump's stuff have squeaky clean records.
Say you're not exactly a Trump supporter, but you like some of what he's doing. Do you want Trump to be constantly sidetracked by scandals - like a known spousal abuser serving on his inner staff - or do you want him to be able to run a tight enough ship that, y'know, he can actually get some shit done?
I mean, if you were a woman, maybe you'd take the fact that the administration is totally fine knowingly hiring people who beat woman with impunity as a bit hard to just wave off, like you'd prefer. But it's indisputable that an administration already beset by scandal needs to know better than this.
If Rob Porter is good enough for America's sweetheart, he is good enough for me.
Yowza.
OT: We Must Cancel Everyone's Student Debt, for the Economy's Sake
I can take this guy seriously.
The amount of ignorance channeled into that one article is astounding. Why must we treat 20-somethings like children? Why must I be punished for making good decisions about my college education? People learn from consequences. If Daddy Gov't softens the blows, people will be liable to make more-and worse-mistakes.
The fact that they don't seem to understand that we'd be paying that $1.5trillion back anyway makes it very clear that they don't know where the government gets its money.
The worst part is the "economists" endorsing this. Holy crap, what are they teaching econ majors these days? Do they even learn math, or is it just psych, sociology, and Hail-Master-Keynes nonsense?
Grr, I'm just fuming right now. What a bunch of pansies I have in my generation. I'm awfully sorry that you started your adult life with tens of thousands in debt, but I was just as stupid when I was 18-23 and somehow managed to avoid bankrupting myself.
Folks who've been away from college financing for some time ought to know that before we can get federal financial aid, they make us take a quiz to test whether we understand that loans must be paid back, starting within a year of graduation. They literally force us to understand that, and still people are whining.
The last I time I took out a student loan back in the 90s, we literally did have to take a such a quiz, after watching a half-hour video about how awful student loan debt could be. On the other hand, young people have it drilled into them all through childhood and adolescence that they have no chance a of middle-class income unless they complete college. Young people are aware of how burdensome student loans can be, but they balance that fear against their fear of working at McDonalds or Walmart for the rest of their lives. Many students have no options for paying for college without loans.
Whether there's an official bail-out or not, much of, perhaps even most of, that outstanding student debt is never going to be repaid. Because college and trade school degrees are paying off in long-term higher incomes less and less, massive defaults are coming. Any government bail-out will be for the benefit of lenders at least as much as borrowers. What lesson should we send the lenders about living with the consequences of bad decisions? If we make student loans dischargeable under bankruptcy, that lesson will begin immediately.
The amount of ignorance channeled into that one article is astounding. Why must we treat 20-somethings like children? Why must I be punished for making good decisions about my college education?
Given your response, I question whether you actually made any good decisions about your college education.
The argument for student loan forgiveness is simply about how much "bang" we can get for our "buck." If we're charging another $1.5 trillion to the national credit card, how should we do it? Should we do it by giving a fat tax break to corporations, who will then distribute it to their shareholders, who will then mostly just sit on it? Or do we forgive a lot of student loan debt that is holding people back - delaying home ownership, other big purchases, even starting families?
It's not about letting anyone "off the hook," and your insistence on casting it in such moralistic terms just exposes your juvenile reasoning process.
It 100% is precisely about that. What about the people who PAID their student loans? I should get fucked over because I paid mine? Fuck those students and fuck you.
Why not just remove the tax-exempt status of university endowments? Why not allow student loans to be removed thru bankruptcy and put the school in question on the hook for half of the total?
What about credit card debt? Mortgages? Car loans? Will they be covered next?
It has become normal for Americans to die with large unpaid credit card balances.
Ain't nothin' more America than that.
The case of staff secretary Robert Porter is damning not just because of Porter's importance in the White House but because his record of domestic abuse elicited scant notice or concern from his superiors.
You stole that line from CNN. My question is: If Porter's such a BFD in the Trump White House, how come this is the first we're hearing about this? It's not like it was that hard to dig out his divorce records, why did no journalist bother checking up on this "Trump's right-hand man" that I'd never heard of until last week?
They were allegations, not convictions. And abuse allegations are ubiquitous in divorce proceedings.
Nice to see the Reason "libertarians" jump on the accusation=conviction bandwagon. Opposing Trump is more important than standing up for liberty, I get it.
Nice as always to see the wingnuts standing up for misogyny. Deflator must figure Porters's ex-wife gave herself that black eye, rather than consider the alternative.
It's like trying to find a right-winger who will admit to having been a bigot in the 1960s, let alone a vicious, violent racist, even in Mississippi or Alabama. Those blacks must have been beating themselves at Selma, and those Freedom Riders must have committed suicide (and buried themselves), if you believe the current alibis.
So, you're finally admitting that Bill DID rape Juanita?
Otherwise, you're a misogynist, right?
Bill Clinton's personal conduct was deplorable.
Important distinctions: Clinton was competent. Clinton wasn't a bigot. Clinton didn't lather up an army of disaffected, intolerant, belligerently ignorant, superstitious, stale-thinking, economically inadequate rubes from our can't-keep-up backwaters.
Obama's folks said otherwise in 2008.
Are you disagreeing with Obama, you Klansman?
No, he just had the military burn a compound of some nutters down so Janet Reno could look tough.
Chapman, when did you stop beating your wife and why does Reason tolerate it?
I never once asked an applicant if they were still, or ever, beat their wife. It is interesting that none of this came out when Porter was being considered for the job, just after he was hired, etc. Damn it, go to the cops if some asshole beats you. Make it public. Don't lie in wait hoping he or she gets into some prominent position where the media is suddenly your ally.
I guess they canned him because of pressure from Rachel Maddow or something.
Porter told them he had a very messy divorce. Considering charges of abuse were levied against Trump, and then retracted, my guess is Trump sympathized with Porter
Trump's 'Bro's before Ho's' policy was in effect back then.
"The case of staff secretary Robert Porter is damning not just because of his importance in the White House but because his record of domestic abuse elicited scant notice or concern from his superiors. "
I stopped reading your rant with that sentence.
This is Reason, not The Chicago Tribune or WaPo.
As a reader with an open mind- not a partisan parrot looking for anti-Trump snacks- I hope for some kind of reasoning and logic to be evident- not this emotional pile of barf.
You say "record of domestic abuse"......
Well then, ante up and show me the record of abuse- not your touchy feeling garbage.
One photo of a black eye is not a record of abuse. If that were true everyone could file a claim for abuse
This is Reason, not The Chicago Tribune or WaPo.
This is literally a column written by a Chicago Tribune editorial board member that runs in the Tribune and then is syndicated to other outlets nationwide. It even says at the bottom it's distributed by Creators Syndicate.
This may be Reason, but Chapman didn't write it for Reason.
Reason is responsible for the content they post.
wow.
All that reasoning on your part is mind boggling!!
The reason I said it wasn't the Trib was because I read he wrote for the Trib.
Duh.
Reason put it up on their site.
Given that they don't post ALL editorial content all of the writers publish --- haven't seen Harsanyi stuff frequently here --- then this is something they AGREE with.
If they didn't, they'd simply eschew publishing it on their site.
Here's some news that will make fake libertarian Steve Chapwoman happy though: the state of Maryland is apparently trying to ban tackle football for youths under 14.

I see this mangina author has drunk of the libertard purple koolaid, following the debunked feminist ideology line from the Duluth Model that all DV is patriarchal men controlling women. So, what "record of domestic abuse" AFTER ADJUDICATION are we talking about? These are "serious allegations, to be sure but allegations which the majority of woman make in filing a matrimonial action, with a wink and a nod from their attorney. Perhaps we should allow innocence until proven guilty and recognize that a photo of a black eye, 15 years after an alleged incident might not be proof of wrong doing. Was he attacked and defending himself? Was the photo doctored, or injury self inflicted as "proof" of a false allegation? I gotta wonder what manner of idiot doesn't recognize that "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" and that women will readily use the system to gain revenge. That would be the Male apologist (the other guy is bad, not me) mangina.
You say Trump enables "neo-Nazis" which suggest you believe the misleading fiction that Nazis are right-wing! But, in point of fact, Nazis are socialists! Few people realize that Nazi is the abbreviation for the German National SOCIALIST party. The Nazi party's full name is NAtional soZIalistische deutsche arbeiter partei - which literally translates from German as the National Socialist German Workers' Party. Socialist? Workers? Nazis were left-wing, not right-wing.
Mind you, Wikipedia do a very good job of muddying the waters by pretending that the abbreviation is actually NSDAP rather than Nazi.
Socialists hate the fact that the Nazi party was a National Socialist party with the same strong gun control agenda, the same strong social programs, the same government control of education, the same government control of the economy, the same emphasis on government jobs and and the same focus on worker's rights as modern socialists -see Wikipedia's explanation of NSDAP (Nazi) policies.
Nazi - socialist - brownshirt violence against those who refuse to follow their left-wing agenda is legendary. Today they're masked and dress in black - and often just as violent. The radical left-wing socialists are the Nazis - not the right! The all too abundant evidence prove the left are devout followers of Nazi ideology who use all sorts of violence as a deliberate strategy.
Few people realize that Nazi is the abbreviation for the German National SOCIALIST party
Everyone here knows that.
We are the smart people. Thinking about that is chilling.
There is nothing socialist about Aryan Supremacy and killing Jews/minorities, you stupid dipshit.
do you know LoveCons? He was hit with the same stupid stick you were hit with.
"There is nothing socialist about...killing Jews/minorities..."
Okay, now you're just messing with us.
Socialism/Marxism strives for a classless society.
this is poly sci 101.
"right wing" means favored class, race, or group
Try 20th Century History 101.
"Socialism/Marxism strives for a classless society.

There really are people this stupid who somehow continue to keep breathing.
There are no classes in a mountain of corpses
Yet Socialist/Communist governments frequently and consistently do so.
That Cuba place we're supposed to make nice with for "TEH LIBERTARIAN MOMENT!!!" --- kinda brutal to their minorities.
My God the comment section here has gone down hill.
How dare you!
Don't worry, you're no worse than usual
At least there's one constant.
You are our rock.
I'm more like The Rock, to be honest. I'm the people's commenter, and the people smell what I'm cooking, which is usually hilarious, insightful comments.
I feel your pain bro.
I wrote this song in the key of Em - it goes Em to G to Am
It should've been U !
I can remember,
As if t'was yesterday
November 8, 2016
A day that will go down
In infamy
Was watching that
Rachel Maddow Show
On the color TV
When she gave me the news
That Hillary lost.
I sat dumbfounded
How could this be?
How could some one so accomplished lose
To someone so lame?
Well I hit the bottle
That very night
It was a bottle of
1998 Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame
And that don't come cheap
But I was a feeling down
And could not sleep
Well I've been angry
Since that very day
I even broke up with some friends
Who wore them MAGA hats
Oh Lord, when will this feeling end?
Trump in the White House
Where Hillary should a been!
Oh, I'm cryin' my eyes out
In misery
It should a been U
Oh - It should a been U
Oh Hillary !!!
As I recall, Clinton's first two years in office were a mess, and that was with a largely sympathetic press.
The distinction: Clinton was a competent president despite his personal flaws. Trump is a flaming sheetstorm, from his ethics and dysfunction to his decision and whatever that thing is atop his head.
It's like these people can't see what's in front of their nose.
Competent provided you ignore that he had his FEC ignore massive corporate accounting fraud for years.
And kicked the can down the road on terrorism.
And sat back during a genocide and didn't do anything.
I'd never thought I'd live to see the day where libertarians complained the government wasn't running efficiently.

Reason has become such a joke
"Brookings Institution fellow Kathryn Dunn Tenpas calculated that first-year turnover among his senior officials was 34 percent. That's worse than any of his past five predecessors had?and double that of Ronald Reagan, who had the second-highest rate."

Oddly, he was never once described as racist until he entered the Republican primary in 2015.
Kinda makes the whole concept of "He's a racist" moot, no?
When "He's a racist" simply means "He's a Republican". As the media and Reason portrays ALL Republicans as racists.
He was a racist, and labeled a racist, when he falsely accused those guys in the Central Park case.
He was a racist, a labeled a racist, when he was King of the Birthers.
Try to keep up, goober. If you don't at least attempt to keep those gloves up, this isn't even sporting.
He was not, but thanks for playing.
You mean when he criticized Obama? Yeah, that's all it took to be "racist". Just like criticizing FDR was all it took be called "right-wing" in the 1930's. Reality be damned.
He was widely viewed as being very racially tolerant. And he's the most gay friendly candidate to EVER run for President. Far friendlier than Obama was.
I am making $89/hour telecommuting. I never imagined that it was honest to goodness yet my closest companion is acquiring $10 thousand a month by working on the web, that was truly shocking for me, she prescribed me to attempt it. simply give it a shot on the accompanying site.

"Fascism can be EITHER left-wing or right-wing
Nazis were right wing (corporatist PLUS today's alt-right)
Mussolini was left-wing (unionist, like Marx but private property)"
Mussolini described his fascist system as "corporatist". You are making a distinction that did not actually exist.
Remember the Hillary email scandal you poo-pooed?
She had her MAID printing out and delivering highly classified material.
Her maid, suffice to say, had zero security clearance.
...but that wasn't a real problem. Not at all.
I think you just cracked the case!
Everyone forgot that THE most sensitive security job in the White House required a clearance!
This guy sounds like a loser and good riddance to him, but we can at least treat it realistically.
