Is Ivanka there? I hope she wears white. It's a good color for her.

  2. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

The number of lies that Trump tells? I am putting the over/under at 18.

    Over or under?

  3. Lachowsky   7 years ago

I'm on my 30th consecutive year of not watching a SOTU address. As far as i can tell, I haven't missed anything yet. Will you guys, and gal, let me know if anything happens that is more substantial than presidential dick waving. Thanks.

    1. Lachowsky   7 years ago

I'm assuming the speech is over at this point. Based on the no response I'm just gonna assume there was nothing worth listening to. Well done Mr. Trump. You are just as motivating as your predecessors. Hoorah. America!

      1. newlife3.0   7 years ago

It's kinda more because, sadly, Reason's become more boring. Where's the drink party? Additionally, many are lost to the Glibs. I just find their site hard to follow.

        1. Lachowsky   7 years ago

Come see the glibs. It makes more sense the longer you are there. Great people, good opinions, we're just a bit disjointed.

          1. newlife3.0   7 years ago

No doubt I miss 'em. Helluva lot more entertaining bunch. (Although some of the older timers here are still good!).
Just...the site is so hard to follow... Even if OMWC's wife or whoever it is is a site making genius as is claimed... Maybe more slightly specific headlines--however lame that may sound, but Hey!, we don't have all day to read everything), would help, idk.

            1. newlife3.0   7 years ago

Gave it another go. Thanks for the bump. Don't know if it's the bourbon or hot spicy cocoa, (separate, of course. I likes my bourbon neat!), but at least the SOTU thread is there, and easy tonight. Appreciate the off topics too.

  4. Crusty Juggler   7 years ago

What's it like being a part of the deep state, or are you so deep in the deep state that you don't know you're part of the deep state?

  5. Crusty Juggler   7 years ago

I double-dog dare you to say something nice about Trump.

    1. Rebel Scum   7 years ago

Ooo, I'm sorry. That's not in the form of a question.

  6. Crusty Juggler   7 years ago

On a scale of Anthony Hopkins - Peter O'Toole, how intoxicated do you have to be to actually pay attention to this drivel?

If anyone of one you answers lower than Jackie Gleason I will be sorely disappointed, and the disappointment will be reflected in the next donation I pretend to make.

    1. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

Can I put Mel Gibson on that drunk scale?

      1. Crusty Juggler   7 years ago

        No.

    2. Chipper Morning Baculum   7 years ago

I am at about an Ernest Hemingway.

      They're both Nazis

      1. Res ipsa loquitur   7 years ago

Technically, on the progressive human meter scale, everyone is a nazi today.

    2. Don't look at me.   7 years ago

      They are both wrong.

  8. Stormy Dragon   7 years ago

Apparently Melania and Donald took separate limos from the WH to the Capitol.

Looks like someone is still in the dog house for screwing porn stars.

    1. Ecoli   7 years ago

Stomry said it was a classic case of micro-cheating, if you get my drift.

    2. Res ipsa loquitur   7 years ago

Melania is hotter, no way he cheated on her with that porn chick.....Donald is no Bill Clinton !!!111!~

      1. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

        Melania is a buttaface.

        1. Rebel Scum   7 years ago

You have no taste. Then again, you're used to seeing only ass. Perhaps you just have skewed taste.

    3. Chipper Morning Baculum   7 years ago

How many times do you think Trump and Melania have had sex since he became President?

      1. Don't look at me.   7 years ago

Have you made any rules for a 2018 SOTU drinking game? If not, I'll just play a game called 'Drink-the-beer'.

  11. Crusty Juggler   7 years ago

What is the best way to deal with a micromanaging CEO? Is it to loudly tell them that they have no idea what they talking about, and that they are burden on your already burdensome life, and that they hired you to fix their problems so just let you fix their problems, and their recent hires (other than you) suck and make your life more difficult, and that a gay man who dresses that poorly and wears that much cologne is confusing?

    Also, are you hiring?

    1. Don't look at me.   7 years ago

      Yes, but not you.

Undertakers. They are in the process of burying America, so they are dressed appropriately.

  18. Ecoli   7 years ago

Mr. President, do you object to being called "Drumpf"? If so, would you prefer to be called "the Bull" with a bunch of cucks dangling from your balls?

    Keepin' it real, yo!

  19. Unlabelable MJGreen   7 years ago

How many times did you vote for Clinton?

    1. Rebel Scum   7 years ago

It is known that many Reason staff voted for Barry...twice...

      1. Rev. Arthur L. Kirkland   7 years ago

Seems reasonable. As libertarians, they should be disgusted by authoritarian, bigoted, backward Republicans.

        1. Rebel Scum   7 years ago

And what of authoritarian, bigoted, backwards, incompetent Democrats?

  20. Crusty Juggler   7 years ago

How come no one wants to be Winston?

Is this thing even on ?!?!?!

  22. Crusty Juggler   7 years ago

Libs literally want predatory animals to roam free through the continental United States, and Donald Trump is the only man to stop them. Do you still oppose a wall, TreasonNN?

    1. Paloma   7 years ago

Next they'll be taking them on planes as emotional support animals.

  23. Stormy Dragon   7 years ago

Wow, Trump is actually applauding himself.

    1. Res ipsa loquitur   7 years ago

That's what winners do....something you will never understand

    2. chemjeff   7 years ago

Yeah I noticed that too. What a doofus.

  24. Bender B. Rodriguez   7 years ago

Dammit, did I miss the SOTU again? That makes 23 in a row.

    1. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

How can you make fun of it if you don't watch it?

      1. Oscarson44.   7 years ago

Apparently that is not so important anymore:
        https://lidblog.com/students-say-they-hated-sotu/

      2. Bender B. Rodriguez   7 years ago

I was required to watch for a college course as Clinton unveiled the healthcare cards. That was the first and last SOTU I've viewed. They've never had any relevance to actual policy or reality, so I'll continue to blissfully avoid it.

  25. Stormy Dragon   7 years ago

    Trump's got cocaine nose again.

    1. Rebel Scum   7 years ago

      Winners never sleep.

  26. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

    Donny TelePrompter.

  27. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

Remember how the wingnuts always pointed out Obama using a teleprompter?

    1. Res ipsa loquitur   7 years ago

The difference is the teleprompter actually made policy for Obama. Twitter makes policy for Trump.

    2. Rebel Scum   7 years ago

All politicians use teleprompters. The context of the criticism of Barry was how horrible he was when he was not using one.

      1. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

You never heard Dumbya butcher a simple sentence then.

        1. Rebel Scum   7 years ago

Indeed I have, but Dubya is low-hanging fruit.

          1. Res ipsa loquitur   7 years ago

Sadly, Bush is about the only president who might, just might lose an IQ test to Obama.

            1. Rebel Scum   7 years ago

Or his dad. Or Jimmy Carter.

        2. Mickey Rat   7 years ago

Nobody claimed Bush was a mind blowingly eloquent public speaker, unlike Obama.

      2. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

Actually I have heard a lot of other rednecks say the same. They are jealous of Obama's Harvard Law education no doubt.

        1. Rebel Scum   7 years ago

Unfortunately being "college-educated" does not necessarily make one intelligent. Harvard or not. And speaking of, we have no data on Barry's performance at Harvard. Curious...

          1. Res ipsa loquitur   7 years ago

His grades were so amazing, they are like some amazing religious artifacts, such as the "Lost Ark" from Raiders of the Lost Ark, which must be secured in the deep basement of Harvard under guard else they may bring light to all the world and crush the oil / natural gas industry.

          2. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

            Bullshit.

Harvard's graduating printed program had Obama listed a "Magna cum laude" back on that day.

            1. Rebel Scum   7 years ago

              A position or a transcript?

              1. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

I don't know what your question means.

But he was also President of the Harvard Law Review.

"Feb 6, 1990 - 5? The Harvard Law Review, generally considered the most prestigious in the country, elected the first black president in its 104-year history today. The job is considered the highest student position at Harvard Law School. The new president of the Review is Barack Obama, a 28-year-old graduate "

By any measure he was a hell of a student.

I know the wingnuttery can't stand it though.

                1. Rebel Scum   7 years ago

I'll rephrase. Where is his transcript?

Additionally, can you point me to an example of one of his law-reviews, seeing how he was the president of the Harvard Law Review?

                  1. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

                    Why do you care?

You can't possibly belittle his Harvard record. As a Magna he got excellent grades and as President of the HLR he excelled otherwise,

                    1. Rebel Scum   7 years ago

                      Harvard record

I'm waiting for you to present it.

                    2. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

                      He graduated Magna.

Look, I know conservatives are fucking dumbasses. Your great hero Fat Rush couldn't finish a semester in junior college.

                      Definition of magna cum laude
: with great distinction (see distinction 5b) graduated magna cum laude

                    3. Rebel Scum   7 years ago

Then I'm sure his transcript is stellar. Present it.

                    4. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

Do you want Tom Brady's high school football records too?

Look, both of them have first rate credentials.

Brady has a Magna is Super Bowl wins.

                    5. Rebel Scum   7 years ago

Brady had a tryout and a record known to the people that signed him in the NFL. Barry is magna by word of mouth with no supporting evidence of achievement or competence. I'm waiting for you to present it.

Also, credentials are not evidence of competence. Try again.

                    6. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

You are not capable of understanding his transcript.

All you need to know is that he graduated Magna from Harvard Law. You cannot belittle that achievement.

                    7. Rebel Scum   7 years ago

I can understand my own transcript just fine. It has all my classes and grades and such. I'm sure I could understand The Lightbringers. Present it.

                    8. Rev. Arthur L. Kirkland   7 years ago

These goobers believe fairy tales are true and pine for good old days that never existed. They are waiting for a Rapture. You figure they can't belittle genuine achievement in the reality-based world?

                    9. loveconstitution1789   7 years ago

The Obama lovers don't care what the transcript says. Obama is the best no matter what reality tells us.

See, Obama being president frees the lefty racists from centuries of white guilt. They love a black man and his wife, so they are cool now.

Legal immigration apparently constitutes a "loophole" now.

  39. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

BTW, this speech has not been a clusterfuck like his others were.

    So Far.

  40. Rebel Scum   7 years ago

Still a nicer system than Canada. Go figure...

  41. Stormy Dragon   7 years ago

Legal immigration is an unlawful system? So is the new Republican talking point that they're in favor of legal immigration, as long as it's LEGAL legal immigration?

    1. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

They have been saying that for months.

  42. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

I can't believe I am saying this but this speech is more presidential than his usual divisive ones.

  43. chemjeff   7 years ago

Well there it is, the immigration part of the speech.

Whenever Trump mentions Americans, they are good hard-working decent folks. "Americans are dreamers too." Good line, I admit.

Whenever Trump mentions immigrants, they are terrorists, criminals and gangbangers.

Just once I'd like to see Trump refer to immigrants and immigration as anything other than problems and headaches that America has to grudgingly deal with.

    1. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

True, but for once he has offered a reasonable compromise on DACA.

      1. chemjeff   7 years ago

It's not terrible. DACA amnesty in exchange for a useless wall and ending the diversity lottery which was stupid from the beginning even from an open borders perspective

        1. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

          Yes.

        2. Chipper Morning Baculum   7 years ago

The wall is dumb and pointless.

          1. chemjeff   7 years ago

It is dumb and pointless. But it is probably the least offensive item on Trump's list.

          2. Rev. Arthur L. Kirkland   7 years ago

Not to gullible, downscale, bigoted yahoos, it isn't.

            1. chemjeff   7 years ago

              Okay that is not helpful.

IMO we should have compassion for all people, immigrants and Americans alike.

We don't like it when righties scapegoat immigrants as the source of all our problems, and we shouldn't scapegoat Americans as being the source of our problems either.

Funny. About this point is where you can tell all the lefties are the only people watching the SOTU and commenting.

That groupthink is amazingly successful for lefties.

I voted for Gary J, he didn't win.

I went to bed before the election results were in, thinking, damn Hillary Clinton is probably going to be president.

Next day I went on the internets and could not believe it.

Trump is president, not Hillary Clinton

I got to say, a smile spread through my disbelieving face.

Trump is president - NOT Hillary fucking Clinton - the gun grabber. Fuckin A!

    Now here is my question.

It you had to choose, would you rather have Trump, who said fuck you to the Paris Accords, who lowered taxes, is taking the wheels off of Obozocare, and believes in the right to keep and bear arms, or would you choose Hillary fucking Clinton, the gun grabber and all around control freak?

      "all around control freak"

They're all control freaks. That is what it means to have a position of power and authority over others.

Trump said "fuck you" to the Paris agreement, yes. However, Trump said "fuck yeah!" to protectionism and immigration wall nonsense.

Well, I too voted for Gary J, and I really don't care about "if I had to choose." Homey don't play that, to quote an old variety show.

I will never, ever again vote for someone with a D or an R after their names. I would seriously consider an "L," but would make it point to NOT vote at all if the choice is R or D. Sorry to Rand Paul and Justin Amash. Their hearts may be in the right place, but they need to cut ties with the dirty major parties before I could ever take either of them seriously.

Okay there is Joe, talking about Russia Russia Russia again.

I have to wonder if Democrats think talking about Russia polls well or something. Because the evidence of "collusion" is thin at best.

    1. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

Because "collusion" is not the end game. It is too vague.

What probably did happen is that Trump (who has laundered money for Russian mobsters) engaged in a quid pro quo with Russians to further their alliance.

Remember, to NY banks Trump is a deadbeat. A serial bankrupt scofflaw deadbeat. He needs the Russians. Money laundering will be his downfall.

You think a government agency would learn to cut costs as quickly?
Make sure you get to aisle 6 before turd buys them all up.

            1. chemjeff   7 years ago

Well, you should read the whole article.

It isn't just that Trump made a bad investment in a foreign country.

Briefly, Trump licensed his name for a hotel, which was going to be run by a horribly corrupt Azeri political family, who were also in bed with Iranian terrorists. It's pretty awful.

  66. Stormy Dragon   7 years ago

I just figured out how Joe Kennedy III speaking style reminds me of. He sounds like the Jesse Eisenberg version of Lex Luthor.

Suderman and KMW are right - Republicans have now completely ceded away the issue of debt and deficit spending.

    1. SIV   7 years ago

      Ceded to who?

      1. chemjeff   7 years ago

        To Libertarians, of course!

    2. Palin's Buttplug   7 years ago

I have been saying that since the Bushpigs went on their spending spree in 2003-07 with a GOP Senate and House.

Obama cut the deficit from $1.2 trillion to about $450B. Now its headed back to a trillion.

      1. Don't look at me.   7 years ago

You've been busted on that lie more times than you can count (fingers and toes, turd, that's the limit of your math).
So you keep repeating it in the hopes someone might be as dumb as you and believe it.
        Fuck off, asshole.

      3. chemjeff   7 years ago

Oh come on. It's incredibly stupid to assign credit or blame for spending decisions solely to the executive branch.

When Obama and the Democrats were in charge, they spent like drunken sailors. When Republicans took over Congress, the government basically ran on autopilot and CR's.

  68. chemjeff   7 years ago

"free and fair and reciprocal trade"

I'm old enough to remember the debate over NAFTA. Republicans and Bill Clinton said "free trade". The rest of the Democrats said "no, we want *fair* trade!"

Looks like the Democrats won the debate in the end.
