Won't someone please think of the kickbacks?
Paul Manafort to be released from house arrest, but still has a curfew.
Doesn't seem arbitrary at all.
The feds are cracking down on Instagram models.
Where my camwhores gone?!?
Snapchat
It's pretty easy to imagine at this point that every slightly odd congress critter's behavior is being driven by some blackmail.
The NSA probably has his phone records, there are probably a few faux gropes out there circling, probably a real grope or two.
What's a senator to do?
Petersen had to acquiesce on many occasions that his "background was not in litigation," despite the role he was up for. He added, "I understand the challenge that would be ahead of me if I were fortunate enough to become a district court judge."
"However, I bring a fresh viewpoint to court proceedings."

At least the feds aren't cracking them open. Well, most of them.
The Senator had previously said he'd vote over concerns the bill did not include a generous enough Child Tax Credit.
So Rubio wanted more of a handout and Corker wanted less of a negative impact on the deficit, and yet they both got what they wanted for their vote?
Does this have something to do with Miami's red lights?

Net neutrality would have prevented this.
I couldn't care less if the nominee has experience. I care about his intellectual capabilities. the law is not that hard, and Popehat's article amounts to launching a string of technical terms in an attempt to make this stuff look complicated. it isn't, and comparing it to surgery is egregious.
also, to add: I've practiced law for a while now and if you asked me about a bunch of doctrines by name I probably couldn't name them. but I'd damn sure look them up.
law is not as complicated as people make it out to be. it just isn't.
You're doing it wrong. Law is so complex that you should be paying me for each pearl of wisdom I deign to drop herein and hereabouts.
Actually, I don't agree. It's not complicated in the sense that it takes intellectual heft to understand blackletter law, but it is complicated in that the legal process is so corrupt and laws/regs/opinions/etc. are so poorly drafted and enforced.
I think if I were nominated to a prestigious position, I would prepare a little more for my job interview.
He may have spent his time politicking. Time will tell if he made the right choices.
I think the point was that law is not that complicated and the nominee might very well be qualified to be an Appellate Judge, but running a trial is more complicated.

This feels hinky. Especially because they are sending out letters without actual proof of monetary ties. They mentioned at least two cases of celebrities immediately responding that they hadn't received any goods or services for mentioning a product (which I can believe, because look at my family holiday album. You'd think we all were endorsed by Dr. Pepper).
Plus they are getting finicky on how the celebrities acknowledge their freebies. Apparently just saying thank you to the company for the free stuff isn't clear enough for the regulators. They want you to actively tag your posts with "Ads". Which doesn't really seem accurate considering a lot of these things aren't even contracted.

It's also somewhat astoundingly short-sighted and/or a blatant stopgap. At some point, someone's going to need the #Ads hashtag more than the FTC and, eventually or not, Instagram et al. can scrap the whole tagging scheme for this use. At which point the FTC is going to have to give up or go full compelled-speech a la surgeon general's warning.

"Thanks" isn't the same as "thanks for giving me free stuff" or "if I don't say nice things, they will stop giving me free stuff."
Actually, this isn't that hard. Pharma has to track all the free stuff it gives to docs and publish a list. We don't have to track annual freebies of less than $50 or so.
FTC could implement a similar policy.
That's because speech is money. Haven't you been following campaign finance reform?
Without alt-text I'm not sure if that pic goes with the Instagram model story or the Miami red-light story. Looks like a cheap whore either way so maybe a two-fer?
It's Britches.
What the hell do you want?
Uh, no he doesn't:
