Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 167 people around Los Angeles yesterday as part of an effort to target sanctuary cities and counties. Around 500 people were arrested in the efforts this week.

  • A Baton Rouge police officer cannot sue Black Lives Matter over his injury at a 2016 protest against police brutality. Picture, if you will, President Trump is visiting the Paralympic Games. The national anthem starts to play for the American team but, lo and behold, the president notes that some of the athletes are not standing. Former President Obama is also there, and sees a furious Trump going immediately for his Twitter account. Obama gets on his Blackberry and emails Hillary's bathroom that watching the current president put his foot in his mouth is like the Special Olympics. Meanwhile, Congress has finished its tax overhaul. Everyone now pays a flat rate of 50% but every taxpayer gets a $1,000 tax credit for each vote they give an incumbent on Election Day. Then someone adds a rider to the bill resurrecting Cash for Clunkers, but this time the clunkers refers to legislation Congress fails to pass.

A Baton Rouge police officer cannot sue Black Lives Matter over his injury at a 2016 protest against police brutality.

So police and BLM can have at each other since it's been established neither group can be held accountable to the other.

South African man is jailed for having sex with a DONKEY after witch doctor told him it would make him a stronger man

A South African man has been jailed for having sex with a donkey after a witch doctor told him it would make him stronger.
Ntando Mankungwini, 23, ushered two donkeys away from their herd in a secluded area of Eastern Cape, South Africa.
He had sex with one before the grandson of the donkeys' owner chased him away thinking he was stealing the animals.

Canada set to remove drunk canoeing as an impaired driving offence

It's still a terrible idea, but it may no longer run you the risk of having your driver's licence suspended and car impounded

Knocking back a few brews and taking the canoe out for a paddle is still a terrible idea, but it may no longer run you the risk of having your driver's licence suspended and car impounded.

As the federal government moves to tighten impaired driving laws ahead of the legalization of marijuana, it's also clearing up a grey area in the Criminal Code that has seen police hand out drunk driving charges to tipsy canoeists.

Police can still lay other charges for being intoxicated in public, but impaired driving charges trigger harsh provincial penalties such as automatic driver's licence suspensions, steep fines, demerit points, ignition unlocking devices and vehicle impoundment.

There have been numerous such charges against canoeists in Ontario, where police vigorously patrol the waterways throughout the summer and the provincial government has stated that canoes, kayaks and even inflatable rafts all count under impaired driving laws.

Parents take note: Thomas the Tank Engine stories are Orwell's 1984 for toddlers.

    1. Lily Bulero   8 years ago

I'd forgotten how cool those episodes were:

"In one episode, a manager tells a showoff engine named Smudger that he's going to "make him useful at last," and then turns Smudger into a generator, never to move again. (There are several "R.I.P. Smudger" tribute videos on YouTube.) In another episode, a double-decker bus named Bulgy comes to the station and talks about revolution?"Free the roads from railway tyranny!" he cries. He is quickly labelled a "scarlet deceiver," trapped under a bridge, and turned into a henhouse. A recurring storyline involves the "troublesome trucks," which are disciplined into fearful obedience through public, symbolic punishments. Their leader, S. C. Ruffey, is pulled in two different directions until he breaks into pieces?"I guess the lesson is that if someone is bullying you, kill them?" a YouTube commenter writes?and, in another episode, a "spiteful" brake van is crushed into bits."

      1. Lily Bulero   8 years ago

"female passenger coaches named Annie and Clarabel...are awarded to Thomas as prizes after he helps with a train breakdown."

...followed by a scene of a train going into a couple tunnels, amirite?

        1. John   8 years ago

Thomas is a little bit past my time as a child. But, I had no idea they were that cool. Also, George Carlin did the narration in them. George Carlin, Trains and stomping on commie wannabe revolutionary trucks and buses; what is not to love?

A certain type of kid - let's call them "boys" - enjoy (a) trains and (b) watching malefactors get their comeuppance.

              1. Lily Bulero   8 years ago

As an experiment, why not give some boys the choice between watching He Man beat up Skeletor, or watching the Care Bears Hugging Special.

                1. Chipper Morning, Mean Girl   8 years ago

                  Can't I enjoy both?

          2. mad.casual   8 years ago

Also, George Carlin did the narration in them.

George Carlin did the narration in some of them. Alec Baldwin and Ringo Starr played as the conductor as well. Peter Fonda starred in the movie. Hardly a bastion of Commie-stomping. Lot's of British Imperialist undertones.

As Lily Bulero points out - steam power, straight lines/queues, prioritization of efficiency and productivity, punishing of dissidents... plenty of things to love that can easily be extrapolated one way or the other.

            1. John   8 years ago

Cream-filled penis waffles all the rage in Bangkok, but some people are raging mad

They say all publicity is good publicity and that may be the case this week for dick-shaped waffle vendor Ketnita Prasertsomboon. Her waffles are exploding, going viral on social media as well as in the mouths of fans at Bankok's Indy Market.

Though lots of cute young Thais have been posting photos and videos of themselves licking, eating, and loving the waffles, not everyone is a fan of the sexy, cheeky treats, reported Khaosod English.

The Alt-Right breathes a sigh of relief.

  19. Palin's Buttplug   8 years ago

Libertarians have more in common with the alt-right than they want you to think

    .........

It was the very bareness of the idea of self-interest and liberty as such that allowed Chris Cantwell, the weeping neo-Nazi made infamous in Vice's coverage of Charlottesville (and avid reader of Hoppe and Rothbard) to make conceptual space for racism: "People should be free to exercise complete control over their own person and property. If blacks are committing crimes, or Jews are spreading communism, discriminating against them is the right of any property owner."

It's a quick step from here to full-on white nationalism, which interprets history and politics as the story of different races pursuing their collective self-interest. It shouldn't come as a great surprise that enshrining self-interest as the core of morality would lead to a cynical worldview that takes all action to be struggle or manipulation. The "liberty" of libertarianism is merely negative; and a mind guided with the mere concept of its own interest can be led to anything or to nothing. For this reason, the intellectual wasteland of libertarianism continues to provide a safe space for fascists: It simply has philosophical room for them, and no particular injunctions to turn them away.

      1. Palin's Buttplug   8 years ago

When I got involved with libertarianism in the 80s it was all about laissez faire pro-drug, small government philosophy.

Now there is a big component of race-based conservatism with little regard to what we cared about back then. And Trump has a significant "libertarian" fandom as he bases his whole philosophy on race division.

A few years ago, one of the commenters revealed that he had worked on porn shoots at various times, and confirmed that a lot of the women who go into the business tend to be pretty messed up emotionally and suffer from all sorts of addictive behaviors. Jenna Jameson's autobiography was a textbook case of someone who had a fucked-up childhood and subsequently gravitated into porn.

It's not a business that mentally healthy people tend to flock towards as a career, no matter how much its advocates try to spin it as an empowering industry.

    2. Lily Bulero   8 years ago

Give him a bit of space to be dead for a while before doing the hit-pieces.

Let's not be Christopher Hitchens, amusing as his the obits he wrote were.

      1. John   8 years ago

Hitchens was so overrated. All he ever did was cleverly articulate how wonderful Christopher Hitchens was and how awful everyone else was. With the lone exception of Islam, he was wrong on virtually everything. The guy was an unrepentant socialist until the day he did. Wow, he figured out Muslims were crazy and dangerous and not the wonderful brown people the left claimed them to be. What a genius.

        1. Palin's Buttplug   8 years ago

No one could eviscerate a fake asshole-type like Hitch - from Mother Theresa to Jerry Falwell. He was on target.

          1. Lily Bulero   8 years ago

He was an experienced polemicist from his Trot days and his academic training.

If need be, he could "make the worse appear the better cause."

When he was right - which sometimes kind of happened - he could come up with some good lines.

I can say all this because he's been dead for a while and the moratorium of criticizing the dead has expired in his case.

            1. John   8 years ago

You pretty much sum up Hitchens' career. I judge a writer by whether he entertained me or made me any smarter. Hitchens wasn't the worst because he could be mildly entertaining at times. I read a lot of his writing because he could be entertaining. But rarely did I walk away from it any smarter for having read it. It was the literary equivalent of cheap takeout food. It tastes good and everyone enjoys it but ultimately not very sustaining and a guilty pleasure. The only thing I ever read of his that really impressed me was his description of the tyranny of his English boarding school and how the point of tyranny is for it to arbitrary, thus everyone lives in fear of its wrath. That was a pretty smart take.

Did he do all four at once? That would be quite a picnic.

            1. Tom Bombadil   8 years ago

You come across as a blithering know-it-all, so I guess you said it, implicitly anyway.

              1. John   8 years ago

I only come across as a know it all, because you don't know much and are easily impressed. Try learning a bit more and I will just come across as a knowledgeable person.

                1. Tom Bombadil   8 years ago

                  And you make my point.

Are you still in the dark about why you got expelled from the Glibs?

                  1. John   8 years ago

I am not in the dark at all. The only thing that is mysterious is why they invited me. They just want people to kiss their ass and never question the received wisdom. That is, of course, their right. Why they would want me when that was their goal is a bit of a mystery.

And if you don't like having your petty insult hurled back at you, hurl them at someone else because I give as good as I get. You are the one that came along and insulted me for no apparent reason. If you want to have a serious conversation, start one. If you want to have a snark fest, fine but understand the snark is going both ways. So, spare me your whining when it does.

                    1. Tom Bombadil   8 years ago

I did not insult you for no apparent reason. (well, I guess it's not apparent to you).

I insulted you because you are (I repeat) a blithering know-it-all.

There has been no whining on my part. Whining is when you complain that someone is treating you badly. I have made no such complaint.

You are tiresome, a bore. I have read your bullshit for years. I have heard you pretend to be an expert on topics you clearly are ignorant of. Topics which I actually have true first hand knowledge of.

So, a suggestion: It's not necessary that you opine on everything. Less is More as the saying goes.

                    2. Tom Bombadil   8 years ago

"I am not in the dark at all. "

Strange, you have previously mentioned a few times (like when you showed up back here after a long absence) that it is a mystery to you why the Glibs expelled you. So what is it? You know, or don't know?

                    3. John   8 years ago

I insulted you because you are (I repeat) a blithering know-it-all.

And you are clearly a know nothing idiot uncomfortable with people who do know anything. So what is your point?

                      You are tiresome, a bore.

Then don't read my posts. And if you think that I am wrong about something, say why. You don't seem to do that, however. You don't seem to say much of anything or add to the conversation in any significant way. The problem isn't' that I am a know it all. The problem is you don't like my opinions and are not smart enough to effectively explain why or disprove them. And to that I say, it sucks to be stupid.

And no, I am not going to say less. I will continue to say exactly what I want when I want. I am sorry but I don't' make allowances for stupid people or take their opinions into account. If you don't like that, too bad. Go fuck yourself or find someone who cares.

                    4. Tom Bombadil   8 years ago

Well, welcome back anyway. You were gone for such a long time. I guess you were hanging out with those ignorant echo chamber Glibs. But of course, you being so smart must have seen what they were like. How strange that you didn't come running back here until they booted you.

                    5. John   8 years ago

If you don't like me, don't respond to me. I really don't know what else to tell you or what you want.

                    6. Tom Bombadil   8 years ago

I want you to post much less, specifically more intelligently about topics you are actually knowledgeable about. That is what I want.

                    7. John   8 years ago

How does it feel to want? If you are so concerned about the intelligence of my posts, then explain why you think they are not intelligent. Take your best shot. I would love to hear what you have to say. And if you make a good point, I will be happy to concede it.

D.C.'s local government to require licensed gun owners to provide a "good reason"

Having to obtain a license is unconstitutional in the first place. Having to provide a "good reason" is just extra bs.

The city's current law says that resident who want to legally carry a concealed firearm must first demonstrate that they have "good reason to fear injury," the Post reported, adding that living or working "in a high crime area" was not necessarily a good enough reason.

You'd think that would be the perfect reason, but it's not bc fytw.

In some ways, I feel sorry for the NFL players. A lot of these guys are lucky to be able to write their names. And they are being conned and peer pressured by a bunch of race hustlers into destroying their livelihood. Many of them really are not smart enough to understand that they get paid because fans pay to see them play not because they are good at what they do or great athletes. The best swimmers or Greco Roman wrestlers are great athletes too. And they don't make seven or eight-figure salaries. Here is a guy telling the fans to not come to the games if they don't like the protests.

Is everyone ready for the coming hoards of angry retards? November 4th is just over a month away.

    http://www.infowars.com/antifa.....overnment/

This is infowars. So, take it for what it is worth, though the citation to the Revolutionary Communist website seems legit. How can people be this stupid and delusion and not be locked in an institution? Beyond the millions of armed rednecks out there dreaming of the day they can kill a commie hippie, there is something like a million or more cops in this country. And not a single one of them is going to join your "ferocious struggle" against "the unrelenting terror of the Trump Administration". They are just going to come and beat you over the head and send you to prison or if you are not lucky just shoot you 40 or 50 times, because every cop within a five-block radius emptying their service weapon in a single suspect is how cops roll. This is is going to be tragic comic.

    1. This Machine Chips Fascists   8 years ago

Shoot you, or shoot at you 40-50 times? Important only to department supply clerk . 50 hits implies 500 rounds fired in cop world.

      1. John   8 years ago

Yes, it does. Every cop in five blocks emptying his service weapon in your general direction means 500 rounds fired of which maybe forty or fifty hit you.

        1. This Machine Chips Fascists   8 years ago

This is why LEO says "good shoot" instead of "good shot" or "good shooting".

        2. Cyto   8 years ago

For the newbies running about, this is hyperbolic, but not entirely inaccurate.

I always think of Jose Guerrena - shot in his entry hallway by a SWAT team serving a "knock and announce" warrant that was caught on video. They unloaded over 70 rounds at him from about 15 feet away, hitting him 22 times, but mostly in the arms and legs. (for bonus points they refused to allow the EMTs on the scene to treat him for a couple of hours while he bled out - all while his wife is on with 911 begging for help)

But you could pick any one of dozens of others. Like Amadou Diallo - 41 shots from a range of about ten feet on a front porch... armed with a wallet... about half landed.

    2. Lily Bulero   8 years ago

"This is infowars. So, take it for what it is worth, though the citation to the Revolutionary Communist website seems legit."

Then might I suggest you skip the infowars link and go straight to the commie site?

      1. John   8 years ago

Because the infowars site contains other information, of which the commie website seems to be the most obviously legit.

        1. Lily Bulero   8 years ago

I'm just saying, go straight to the legit (or *comparatively* legit) website - no need to mention you learned about it from infowars, let the commies speak for themselves.

          Simply my 2 cents.

Even if they are serious, there's probably, what, a few hundred antifa and revolutionary commies with the balls and commitment to actually try something beyond their usual minor street violence.

If they're serious, they may be looking for martyrs to confirm the Violence Inherent in the System.

        Red Lives Matter!

        1. Lily Bulero   8 years ago

The Reds don't seem to think so.

More like Leading Cadres Lives Matter, foot soldiers...not so much, not if they can be useful as Glorious Martyrs to the Cause.

          1. John   8 years ago

Darkness at Noon was more or less a true story. Sorry Comrade, the cause requires that you be convicted and executed for a crime you didn't commit.

            1. Lily Bulero   8 years ago

The RCP's rivals in the 1970s - the Communist Workers' Party - made the mistake of putting several of their best and brightest (comparatively speaking) in the front lines of a confrontation with the Klan in Greensboro, NC. The big boss wasn't there, but several key leaders were killed. Playing up the martyr angle wasn't able to make up for the loss of much of their key players.

The RCP may learn from this and put only the really dumb and disposable ones on the front lines, while the key leaders sit at home sipping chardonnay.

Then if the dumb followers get killed, they can get the martyr treatment, and the Gullible Stream Media can do soft-focus pieces on the dead guys ("Bob Communist was a family man who was planning, before his life was tragically cut off, to marry the mother of most of his children. His weeping ex-girlfriend praised Bob as an "idealist" who "really cared about stuff.")

              1. John   8 years ago

Islamic terrorist organizations have figured this out as well. The 911 hijackers had a couple of leaders who were no kidding smart and dangerous terrorists. The rest of them were goons, most of whom thought they were just hijacking a plane and didn't know it was going to be flown into the World Trade Center. Notice, none of the real leaders of these organizations are ever out actually martyring themselves for the jihad.

        2. Chipper Morning, Mean Girl   8 years ago

I can't even tell who the Reds are anymore.

      3. John   8 years ago

No. This reminds me of Bill Ayers "Days of Rage". In 1968, Ayers and his band of angry retards decided they were going to start the revolution by attacking some upscale neighborhood in Chicago. They showed up, busted a few car windows and set some things on fire and then got their asses kicked by the cops causing Ayers to "go underground". Pathetic is the only word to describe it.

        1. Red Rocks White Privilege   8 years ago

Have you been watching Burns' Vietnam series? The main antiwar radical that they interviewed noted that the more militant the anti-war movement became, the less public support they received. He obviously said this in hindsight, but it's notable in that a lot of leftists are going out of their way to try and distance themselves from antifa. They don't want to be caught up in the association when these 'tards finally do chimp out and start going after normies instead of Nazi LARPers.

          1. John   8 years ago

I have not been watching it but that doesn't surprise me. I said a while ago that the left is going to end up Nixonizing Trump but not in the way they want to. Nixon went from winning a very close election to being re-elected in a 49 state landslide because the left got so out of control that the choice was Nixon or the rampaging hippie masses. They are going to do exactly the same, though I doubt any President could win 49 states today, for Trump. People don't want the violent revolution. And if you really look like a threat to peace and stability, they will vote for virtually anyone who pledges to stop you.

        2. CatoTheChipper   8 years ago

In some ways, this is far, far worse than "Days of Rage". Bill Ayers didn't have significant allies in the mainstream media and the Deep State. He didn't have billionaire funders (other than his daddy, who was chairman and CEO of Commonwealth Edison.) On the other hand, he did have the discontent created by the Viet Nam war and the draft going for him.

          1. John   8 years ago

This is true. Ayers was one group of retards in one place. Antifa is much larger and much more widespread. This is more like 100 Days of Rage. But, the result is going to be the same. They are going to get their asses kicked and end up dead or in prison.

          2. John   8 years ago

      1. John   8 years ago

Some of them will show up. They are so stupid they have no idea what they are doing or the consequences of their actions. It is like the idiots who rioted at the inauguration. Two hundred and forty of those boneheads are up on felony rioting charges. A conviction for felony rioting has a minimum mandatory of a year in federal prison. A bunch of them jumped bail and didn't show up to the court date. That is another year right there. And federal warrants don't go away. At some point, they will get pulled over in a traffic stop or arrested for something else and have the federal marshals show up to take their sorry asses back to DC. Unlike the states, the feds have a huge marshal service and actually go and get those wanted on federal warrants. They just pissed away their lives for nothing.

White sports writer demands black hockey player throw away his career and likely risk real physical harm in the name of racial politics. It is apparently Sudden's duty to sacrifice for the writer's principles. Behold the epic smugness of these two paragraphs.

So no, P.K. Subban will not be the guy who takes the knee and makes the stand. P.K. Subban is the guy who decided, with his team, not to do so, and then told a room without cameras rolling that he would never protest during the anthem.

Sorry if this let you down, because you believed an outspoken player like Subban would stand in solidarity with other pro athletes, or would symbolically share your political beliefs through his actions.

As part of national Read a Book Day, the first lady sent a number of Dr Seuss titles to schools across the nation, selecting one school from each state to receive the books.

Liz Phipps Soeiro, the school librarian for Cambridgeport Elementary School, announced in an open letter to Trump that she would not be accepting the gift because her school was not in need of the additional books, also telling the first lady that "Dr. Seuss is a bit of a clich?."

The country divided over anthem protests. This is why you don't make politics a part of your business. You are guaranteed to offend someone no matter what position you take. The NFL is screwed. If they don't stop the protests a significant portion of their customer base and going to leave them. If they do, a smaller but still likely significant portion of their customer base will leave them. This is going to cost them hundreds of millions or maybe even billions of dollars in lost advertising and TV revenues. Colin Kaepernick may have done more economic damage to his employer than any employee who wasn't a CEO or didn't end up in prison has in history.

Prediction: The peak for a Superbowl ad of $5 million/30 second spot record set in 2017 will never be exceeded (in constant $).

It's going to be a buyer's market in 2018 no matter what.

I have friends who say all this is going to pass, that it's just a passing story in the news cycle. What they fail to recognize is that the stadiums are filled by fans who actually identify with their teams. However, their sports team affinity is typically far weaker than their familial, religious, ideological, and national affinities. The bad behavior of sports stars, the price gouging by team owners, and the recognition that football's health consequences have already weakened the affinity that many fans have had with their favorite football team. By publicly dissing the symbols of country that fans love, NFL players kill the goose that lays the golden eggs for them.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 167 people around Los Angeles yesterday as part of an effort to target sanctuary cities and counties. Around 500 people were arrested in the efforts this week.
    Good. Deport all illegals.

"Despite President Donald Trump's push for tougher immigration enforcement, U.S. agents are on pace to deport fewer people in the government's 2017 fiscal year than during the same period last year, the latest statistics show."
"As of Sept. 9, three weeks before the end of the 2017 fiscal year, ICE had deported 211,068 immigrants, according to the most recent figures provided by the agency. ICE removed 240,255 people during the government's 2016 fiscal year."
    Trump deportations
These are the kind of lies the media shovels. The full 2016 fiscal year for the fed is 12 months October to October. Trump was not president until Jan. 20, 2017 meaning he had 4 less months to deport people in fiscal year 2017.

There's still a day left in Banned Books Week - is Reason covering it?

Schoolkids get brownie points by reading from banned books, so let's get cracking. Here are some books to read from:

Immanuel Kant, Critique of Pure Reason, banned by the Roman Congregation of the Index in 1827.

Bogg-witticisms, a collection of Irish jokes, banned in the British Isles around 1687

Mein Kampf, banned in Austria and Poland after WWII

Come on, kids, stand up for the freedom to read! Your librarians will thank you!

Bonus points for reading the really dirty parts in Critique of Pure Reason.

"Just as for the cognition of an object distinct from me I also need an intuition in addition to the thinking of an object in general (in the category), through which I determine that general concepts, so for the cognition of myself I also need an addition to the consciousness, kant-silhouette-75x134or in addition to that which I think myself, an intuition of the manifold in me, through which I determine this thought; and I exist as an intelligence that is merely conscious of its faculty for combination but which, in regard to the manifold that is to combine, is subject to a limiting condition that it calls inner sense, which can make that combination intuitable only in accordance with temporal relations that lie entirely outside of the concepts of the understanding proper, and that can therefore still cognize itself merely as it appears to itself with regard to an intuition (which is not intellectual and capable of being given through the understanding itself), not as it would cognize itself if its intuitions were intellectual."

A single sentence out of Kant's Critique.

    Hey, check this out!

You can do a 3-minute reading from a banned book and upload the result on YouTube - although I get the impression that the organizers of Banned Books Week will review the video for suitability.

Looking through Wikipedia's "List of Books Banned by Governments," we see

    American Psycho
The Hoax of the Twentieth Century by Arthur Butz [Holocaust revisionism]
    Little Black Sambo
    Lolita
Mirror of the Polish Crown [banned for anti-Semitism]
The 120 Days of Sodom, by the Marquis de Sade
The Protocols of the Elders of Zion
The Truth about Muhammad, by Robert Spencer

    Have fun, kids!

"" 'black lives matter' itself is not an entity of any sort," wrote U.S. District Judge Brian A. Jackson.""

So I guess Judge Jackson has never heard of charges filed against some amount of money.
