Brickbat: History Lesson

In Louisiana, the Orleans Parish School Board has rescinded the permission it gave to a private group to repair and refurbish a World War I monument that sits on school property. Officials have refused to say why they will not allow the monument, first erected in 1919, to be refurbished, but it is included in a list of monuments that Take Em Down NOLA, the group that spearheaded the removal of Confederate statues, wants removed. The group objects because the names of black World War I veterans are listed separately from those of white veterans.

Gee, if only there were some nice people willing to spend money on modernizing and refurbishing it.
Not relevant. It's a racist monument of racist hate, so it needs to be bulldozed.
Say, there are a lot of Buddhist soldiers murdering Rohingya civilians right now...
... I guess the Taliban were right to blow up those statues after all!
If it was a SJW group doing the refurbishing, the black veterans would get their own separate list so they would feel safe.
oh but they would change "colored men" to say "persons of color".
Photos of the offending plaques
So, change the plaques.
Ummm, racist.
This may be a silly question, but how did this monument end up on school board property?
It appears that the monument was in a park that was taken over to build the school, and the arch was moved to a different part of what had become school property.
On a better note. Went shooing today with a friend..Shot a .45 Glock,.40 and 9o mm S&W,.357 Rugger and a ..22 with a suppressor. Next week a ,Ak and a AR..
"Rugger"
Dude, if you don't like Rugers that's fine, but there's no reason to resort to slurs.
It's early give me a pass.I like the Ruger.I do refer my Dan Wesson .357. I am used to it.
he actually shot a rugby player? thought that was illegal (except in NZ)
@Adans: Sounds like you have a good friend who is providing you with a decent smorgasboard of popular choices. If you are new to this sport I suggest you get a good sense of what you want a gun for, and that will direct you to what you want to buy for yourself. It's a great time by the way, as since The Donald was elected prices have dropped and deals abound. Check the online deals [gundeals.com] and you will get the best prices. Select a local licensed dealer and it will be shipped there and they will complete the NICS and charge $25-$35 for the service
I was hoping there would be a big cut in gun prices, but a decent handgun still runs you $500. I have been waiting for the post-Obama fire sale at the local gun merchants, but so far it hasn't really materialized.
Depends on what you are looking for. Glocks and CZs and brands like Colt have held their prices at about that $500 mark, but Rugers and Smiths are selling well below that. Same with ARs; you can get a decent one for $500.
" If you are new to this sport"
Operating machinery isn't a sport.
Perhaps the black World War I veterans wanted to be put in their own racially safe space. That's a thing, you know.
Read an article last week, the gist of which is that this business of "taking them down" has very little to do with the Civil War, but is focused on here an now and not about any type of "reconciliation." It is already moving well past Confederate dead to general figures of history and is not about to stop there. Jefferson, Washington, and Wilson [progressive that he was, still a known racist] are on the list to be taken down, until there will be know visible history that can possibly offend anyone with a claim to racism. And spineless politicians and administrators accommodate.
"no visible history" I swear this site has it's own hidden version of spell check.
Maybe if you spent less time pretending shooting was a sport, you might have time to edit.
With all due respect, go fuck yourself.
With all due respect, go fuck yourself.
The squirrels second that motion
Thirded. I guess IPSC and 3-Gun don't exist in his parallel dimension.
"until there will be know visible history that can possibly offend anyone with a claim to racism"
The logical extension is The Constitution which, of course, has been under assault for a long time.
