Following a 14-month investigation, Canada's Competition Bureau has closed a probe of three groups accused by environmentalists of making misleading claims about global warming. But the bureau says it may reopen the investigation if it receives new information.

"It's like shouting 'no fire' in a climatic theater!"

What the fuck is a "competition bureau" for?

    1. Telcontar the (Obama) Birther   8 years ago

Same thing a Fire Department's for: "Quick, put it out!"

    2. Episteme   8 years ago

Is there only a single Competition Bureau, or multiple competing ones?

    3. geo1113   8 years ago

      To squash competition.

      1. Rhywun   8 years ago

It reports to MiniTru, I think.

    4. loveconstitution1789   8 years ago

Spending $50 Million Canadian each year.

  3. Longtobefree   8 years ago

And it only took 14 months to figure out that the eco-freaks are full of it?
Must be some kind of record for a screaming liberal government. I figure they were actually trying desperately to find any actual valid, reliable, comfirmable, hard science (no 'models' allowed), proof that climate change/global warming/whatever actually exists.
According to the article, the group 'Ecojustice' (WTF) claims that it is a FALSE statement to say CO2 is NOT a pollutant.
But, oh by the way, CO2 is not a pollutant, it is a vital part of the environment, required for plant life. As a minor detail, plant life is necessary for the human food chain.

    1. Shirley Knott   8 years ago

It's the 'toxin' nonsense all over again. There are no toxins, poison is determined by dose.
There are no pollutants as such.

    2. chemjeff   8 years ago

      hard science (no 'models' allowed)

You think 'hard science' doesn't use models?

      1. damikesc   8 years ago

Hard science has more than ONLY models that have never been correct on anything ever.

Has a single climate science model been accurate yet?

    3. Mickey Rat   8 years ago

Any substance in sufficient quantities is a poison, so at least they have that.

      1. chemjeff   8 years ago

Yeah that is what I was thinking too. Anything could be considered a "pollutant" depending on the amount present. An atmosphere of pure nitrogen would kill you, and the trees too. Would nitrogen now be considered a "pollutant"? So claiming that CO2 is a pollutant, and claiming that CO2 is not a pollutant, are both true statements, depending on the amount of CO2 that is being discussed.

      2. Drave Robber   8 years ago

LD50 of sodium chloride is something like 3000 mg/kg in rats. If primates had the same metabolism a 70 kg human would need 210 grams.

      3. loveconstitution1789   8 years ago

H20 is required for life on Earth and can kill humans in sufficient quantities.

  4. chemjeff   8 years ago

Is this "Competition Bureau" a law enforcement agency? What power do they have to investigate anyone for anything? I have never heard of such an absurd thing in real life. It sounds like some fictional part of a dystopian Ayn Rand novel. Does the "Competition Bureau" reside in the Ministry of Free Markets?

    1. damikesc   8 years ago

Canada also has agencies to stifle free speech if it is offensive to some.

For the problems this country has, others have infinitely more problems.

I still remember, I believe, Levant's hearing before one of the Human Rights councils about "offensive speech". When asked why he did it, he basically said "Because I wanted to"

  5. C. S. P. Schofield   8 years ago

The question, of course, is would this same government agency spend the same time and effort investigation allegations that Climate Change shills were making misleading claims?

    *crickets chirping*
