  • St. Louis protests
    Richard Ulreich/ZUMA Press/Newscom

Protests continue in St. Louis following the acquittal of a police officer for killing a black man after a car chase. The Department of Justice says they will not be filing federal civil rights charges against the officer. And eyewitness say they saw police chanting "Whose streets? Our streets?" after breaking up protests.

  • Republicans say again they're closing in on votes to repeal the Affordable Care Act via a bill pushed by Sens. Lindsey Graham and Bill Cassidy, though Sen. Rand Paul is not a supporter.
  • Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn has started a legal defense fund over the federal investigation of his ties to Russia and the country's alleged attempt to meddle in the presidential election.
  • The Navy has fired two more officers over recent fatal ship collisions.
  • Scary clown panic is back, this time leading to gunfire and criminal charges. There was an actual scary clown though, a dad who decided to terrify his 6-year-old child as a form of discipline. That seems … counterintuitive … but I've never had kids.
  • Activists in the Rohingya Muslim minority group in Myanmar claim that Facebook is removing posts documenting the ethnic cleansing targeting them.

I'm beginning to suspect St. Louis might have a problem that needs addressing.

Police chief says it's okay to beat people up if they dress funny:

The police chief in Paw Paw, W.Va., was less subtle with the anti-clown notices he posted around town.

"If someone sees you dressed like this they have the right to defend themselves," the posters said. "It is not normal for clowns to be running around like idiots all year long. I will stand behind anyone who feels they need to protect themselves from these so-called clowns. So, to sum it all up, if you run around in a clown suit, you should probably expect for citizens to beat you [for their own protection], then get arrested by police."

  20. Sports Reporter Charles Manson   8 years ago

Felony trials should be by jury. A felony defendant who asks for a trial by judge should be treated like a defendant who demands a trial by combat - "denied."

    1. Sports Reporter Charles Manson   8 years ago

(I checked the St. Louis story and found the cop was acquitted by a judge. Maybe the cop was guilty and maybe he wasn't, but a judge shouldn't be making that call.

      1. SIV   8 years ago

If he opted for a jury trial the D.A. would've just tanked the case. A bench trial allows for a vigorous prosecution to maintain "credibility".

        1. Sports Reporter Charles Manson   8 years ago

All the more reason to make the D. A. be open in his "tanking."

    2. TW   8 years ago

      Why?

      1. Sports Reporter Charles Manson   8 years ago

People choose trial by judge if they think the judge will be more favorable to them than a jury.

Usually judges are more anti-defendant than juries, so if it's the other way around, there's probably something weird going on. Like a judge worried about his re-election presiding over a closely-watched case where a police union is paying attention to see if it should endorse someone else for judge.

        1. CE   8 years ago

And would be jurors being tired of cops killing people.

Since all campaign ads are stupid and treat voters like morons, this IS the worst campaign so far.

Plus, its for a Democrat who needs to let voters know he's a veteran (supposedly). He never mentioned how Democrats are for enslaving you children's children because they will never cut spending nor taxes. That and Democrat FDR put Japanese-Americans in concentration camps.

'Rapunzel syndrome' teen dies from eating her own hair

A 16-year-old student in the UK died suddenly while away at college due to an infection caused by a hairball in her stomach.

Jasmine Beever, from Skegness ? on the east coast of England, about four hours east of Manchester ? was taken by ambulance Sept. 7 to the hospital, where staff attempted life-saving resuscitation, LicolnshireLive.com reported.

An autopsy later revealed that Beever had suffered from peritonitis, which occurs when the thin membrane that covers the abdominal wall is inflamed, which is typically due to a fungal or bacterial infection. Beever's case was caused by the infected hairball in her stomach and eventually led to a burst ulcer that caused her organs to shut down.

Thai police arrest naked German for masturbating while riding a unicycle

    Dear Trump fans on Reason.com:

I've said a lot of bad things about you last year. That you had to be a fucking moron to vote for Trump, that only an idiot couldn't make a distinction between a vote for Clinton and Trump, that most of you were just reactionaries who have weaponized libertarianism to support the same old right-wing bullshit...

I'm sorry. You were right and I was wrong. Trump was the way to go. He's way more fun than Clinton (Zzzzz...) ever would have been and through his bumbling incompetence and normalization of White Power racist fuckheadary he has advanced the quixotic campaign for decency and justice that libertarian socialists everywhere desire to advance. Tyler Roysdon, a volunteer firefighter for Franklin Township, Ohio is now suspended for a racist Facebook post suggesting he'd prefer to save a dog in an emergency than a black person.
    FacebookRedditTwitter

I'm not sure if Scott shared these sections from the story earlier:

A lawyer for the parents of a Georgia Tech student who was fatally shot by campus police says he doesn't appreciate the narrative surrounding the shooting that has been put forward by the school and law enforcement.

Police shot and killed 21-year-old Scout Schultz late Saturday night. Investigators have said Schultz refused to put down a knife and was advancing on officers.

Chris Stewart said Monday that reports have made it sound like Schultz was carrying a big knife when he was actually carrying a multi-tool gadget. Stewart says a photo taken by a WSB-TV team when it arrived on the scene shows that the knife wasn't even extended.

If the multi-tool knife wasn't extended...

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Nelly Miles said in an email Monday that Schultz made the 911 call and described an alleged suspicious person who fit Schultz's own physical description.

Miles says three suicide notes were found in Schultz's dorm room.

Miles says one multi-purpose tool that included a knife was found at the scene and no guns were found.

Louisiana Supreme Court Appoints Special Prosecutor For Twentysomething Teacher's Alleged Sex Romps

Unspecified conflicts of interest have forced both the local district attorney and the local district judge to recuse themselves from the criminal case pending against Gillespie.

Louisiana's Supreme Court has had to spend its valuable time appointing the state's attorney general and a special judge to handle the allegations of sexual activity between a male teen and a 26-year-old female teacher, reports local ABC affiliate KATC-TV.

Sheriff's deputies in Jefferson Davis Parish started an investigation into Gillespie's alleged sex antics in late August after a tipster from the local school board complained.

Moment a Nazi wearing a swastika armband is tracked down and beaten in Seattle after 'harassing a black man on a bus'

A white supremacist wearing a swastika armband in Seattle was tracked down and knocked out after allegedly harassing a black man on a bus.

The unidentified Nazi was first spotted on Sunday afternoon while riding Seattle's D line bus where witnesses claimed he had been harassing another passenger.

A photo of him sitting on the bus was quickly passed on to several anti-fascists who then used their Twitter and Facebook accounts to track him down in less than 90 minutes.

Fun fact: put your arms up when someone is about to punch you.

        1. Libertymike   8 years ago

Why overlook the pack of pachyderm in the room?

A black guy assaults the white guy. That is interracial violence - something black men are accustomed to doing.

Polite society does not accept blacks being 10 times more likely to commit interracial crimes of violence against whites than the converse.

We often hear that it is time to have a conversation about race. Blacks need to hear that whitey is fed up with nihilistic negro behavior.

Obama Goes From White House to Wall Street in Less Than One Year

Last month, just before her book "What Happened" was published, Barack Obama spoke in New York to clients of Northern Trust Corp. for about $400,000, a person familiar with his appearance said. Last week, he reminisced about the White House for Carlyle Group LP, one of the world's biggest private equity firms, according to two people who were there. Next week, he'll give a keynote speech at investment bank Cantor Fitzgerald LP's health-care conference.

Since leaving office, Obama has delivered public and private speeches that are "true to his values," Kevin Lewis, a spokesman for the former president, said in an email. "His paid speeches in part have allowed President Obama to contribute $2 million to Chicago programs offering job training and employment opportunities to low-income youth."

Ah, when you have more money you can choose to give it to the needy.

    1. Crusty Juggler - Lawbertarian   8 years ago

Cantor Chief Executive Officer Howard Lutnick, whose firm lost more than 600 people in the Sept. 11 attacks, said the former president will make remarks and take questions. The three-day conference for current and prospective clients begins Sept. 25. Obama will be paid about $400,000, according to a person familiar with the arrangement.

The ex-president has been busy. His foundation is raising money for a library in Chicago, and he and his wife signed a book deal with Penguin Random House after an auction that went above $60 million, according to the Financial Times. He spoke about food in Milan, democracy in Jakarta and himself at an A&E Television Networks event in New York. He vacationed in California and Hawaii and on Richard Branson's Necker Island with its billionaire owner.

Damn it feels good to be gangster politician.
