George Clooney donates a million dollars to combat hate groups.
Certainly money well spent.
Clooney donated a million dollars to "fight" "hate groups". He got scammed by Mo Dees is more like it.
Hello.
"George Clooney donates a million dollars to combat hate groups."
/quietly changes name of blog from 'I hate George Clooney' to 'George Clooney is an asshole.'
How about "George C. Looney"?
Oh, sorry! You're Canadian, right?
/narrows gaze.
I miss Swiss, too.
I Swiss Miss.
Vanilla I bet.
I'm telling.
My bank is throwing money at SPLC* and ADL and is trying to get customers to shake themselves down in solidarity.
*Note: I did not read the link before writing this. What an operation they have.
Should have said: "Clooney donates money to massive scam called SPLC"
This.
A fool and his money
Making a sequel to O Brother Where Art Thou would have been more effective.
George Clooney donates a million dollars to combat hate groups.
Clooney stood up to North Korean hackers during the Sony fiasco when everyone else in Hollywood caved. He gets a pass in my book. Far from the worst celeb.
Meh. He's still a prog.
And he was spoofed in South Park's Team America.
Meh. He's still a prog.
Dreaming of a world that does not exist.
Progs don't get passes, HV.
Unless, maybe, you're a prog...
I dislike progressivism, I HATE Evil and those who commit it... but I try not to simplify individuals into one word labels to justify my condemning of them.
In other words. I dislike progressive ideology more than any individual prog. The idea itself is the bad, much worse than any of its adherents.
I have a prog friend. I just seem him as misguided. I don't hate him. He probably thinks the same of me. But I'm right and he's wrong. But we still go for pizza from time to time.
I have a prog friend.
All my friends are socialist progs. T__T
Probably why I have to rein in my proggie hate.
Oddly enough, I spend most of my time around socialists, and I think that's why I abhor socialism so much. The more time I spend around something, the more I hate it.
I have a prog friend.
TRAITOR!
REAL LIBERTARIANS HAVE NO FRIENDS.
BUCS, see this lawn?
*pumps shotgun and levels it*
You can get right the fuck off it.
I would never disrespect the sanctity of private property. But I will commit verbal aggression, YOUR MADE UP SCENARIO IS BUNK.
But I will commit verbal aggression literal violence
Since words now equate with physical violence, am I OK to pull the trigger under current self-defense laws?
"But we still go for pizza from time to time."
How has this not morphed into a pizza war here? There are traditions, people.
Meh. He's still a prog.
HE'S DEAD TO ME
Yeah right. Like you'll be able to resist getting lost in his eyes for the rest of your life.
Crusty only gets lost in eyes that are brown.
Tax deduction + social signaling = that's all.
You know that there was no North Korean hack, right? It was disgruntled employees from Sony that released that stuff. Look it up. It was reported later and by then everyone ignored the story
I find it highly unlikely that our intelligence community would claim an insider leak was actually a hack on the part of an Asian nation led by a strongman.
[raises head, blinks, goes back to contented grazing]
[pets Juris and scratches behind his ears]
[sneaks up on other side of Juris with a machete]
You know that there was no North Korean hack, right?
I guess I missed any later revelations which were swept under the rug. Even so, in the midst of national news crisis, most of Hollywood capitulated to terroristic demands, movie theaters pulled The Interview out of fear. Following the story at the time, I recall Clooney trying to get A-List celebrities and studio executives to sign a...declaration(?) saying Hollywood would not censor free speech, i.e., satirical comedies that some detested, threatened, and held for ransom. If memory serves, nobody had the sack to sign Clooney's petition (or whatever you'd name it).
Clooney is a good example of a particular Hollywood type who's not a total idiot, and not totally unprincipled, but who, due to the one-eyed-man-among-the-blind context seriously over-assesses both his mental capacity and his moral fiber.
But he worked for the guy who invented moral fiber.
And yet he donated money to the SPLC that actively works to censor speech and falsely labels standard non-hate groups as bigots. Doesn't sound like he has much principles.
I think he thinks he's being principled, but doesn't actually know much about the SPLC beyond having a vague sense that they're "one of the good guys."
Can someone tell me what virtue signalling means?
For sure man, its simple, virtue signaling is, e.g., not being able to discuss a topic like the "The Washington Redskins" name and mascot without making it clear in the conversation that "redskins" is obviously bad, racist, wrong and I oppose it. You can discuss it but you must "virtual signal" that you are on the right (SJW) side of the issue.
Virtue signaling can and does happen in just about every news article these days. More examples:
Antifa shouldn't bash the fash and use violence even though I agree that Nazi's and white supremacists are evil and should be opposed violence is the medium to use.
You can't just say violence is bad and shouldn't be used, one must also signal that the SJW are still correct nonetheless... or cocktail party invitations stop coming in the mail.
Thanks, but.. mine was a sarcastic rhetorical question based on S=C's description of Clooney. The implication of my question was to imply Clooney is virtue signalling.
Sorry, sometimes I'm just to cool for school.
His tequila isn't too bad either.
Yeah, it's not "actor George Clooney" anymore, it's "Big Tequila magnate George Clooney" now, if you weight it by dollars.
Yeah well when he gets around to fixing Sudan's problems I'll maybe listen to him on a new pet problem.
He's an open borders guy who sold his Italian home when the neighborhood got a little too diverse for his liking though. Like every prog he hates that actions have consequences.
The U.S. has sanctioned a dozen Russian and Chinese companies it accuses of aiding North Korea's nuclear program.
Where are the Norks even coming up with the capital for this nuclear venture?
Psst, wanna buy some orphans... cheap.
Black lawmakers launch a 'root out racism' campaign, which is reportedly designed to hold the Trump administration accountable for his controversial actions and rhetoric on race.
So it's a fundraising campaign.
The vast majority of activities undertaken by members of Congress fall under the category of Fundraising.
The remainder fall under the category of Fuckin' Somebody.
It is usually both.
The U.S. has sanctioned a dozen Russian and Chinese companies it accuses of aiding North Korea's nuclear program
Isn't is superfluous to call them Russian and Chinese "companies"?
George Clooney donates a million dollars to combat hate groups.
[swoon]
He gets my vote in 2020.
Too old.
BBC Culture polled 253 film critics from 52 countries to determine the funniest films ever made.
TW: some of them are not comedies.
1. Some Like It Hot
I see...
It was ahead of its time on trans issues.
I'm always confused by how funny older audiences find crossdressing.
I'm always confused by how funny older audiences find crossdressing.
Even Tom Hanks couldn't salvage "Bosom Buddies".
I prefer the remake.
His Girl Friday at 14 and Arsenic and Old Lace at 63? Whoever made this list should be shot.
Schindler's List was hilarious.
Really?
Yes.
Speak for yourself.
Anchorman really speaks to some cultures, I guess.
Yeah, the San Diego local TV news culture.
"Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means 'a whale's vagina.'" ? Ron Burgundy
Come ON! Nothing?
Wait a minute. Are you saying Anchorman was a comedy??
I'm not a baby! I'm a man! An ANCHORMAN!
What? No "Meet the Parents"?
Also strikingly lacking in Beavis and Butthead Do America, but I suppose it is a British publication.
Am I safe in assuming that Dirty Work was #1?
Sure, no downside other than being wrong.
98. The Hangover (Todd Phillips, 2009)
95. Ghostbusters (Ivan Reitman, 1984)
65. Caddyshack (Harold Ramis, 1980)
57. Mean Girls (Mark Waters, 2004)
47. Animal House (John Landis, 1978)
46. Pulp Fiction (Quentin Tarantino, 1994)
44. Bridesmaids (Paul Feig, 2011)
41. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (Larry Charles, 2006)
34. Clueless (Amy Heckerling, 1995)
WIHF? I know you said some of them are not comedies, but some of them barely qualify as movies. Even the ones that aren't comedies are ranked incorrectly among themselves.
Sheer coincidence that you decided to call out those three comedies.
those are all comedies
Clueless and Bridesmaids are both pretty damn good, son. Better than Borat. Not better than Animal House or Caddyshack though.
or Ghostbusters, but yeah I agree
Clueless and Bridesmaids are both pretty damn good, son
Girls can't be funny, dingus.
Wait, what about..... er..... *cough*
Reese Witherspoon in Election? Malin Akerman in The Heartbreak Kid remake that is not good but she is awesome? Julie Hagerty in Lost In America?
I guess those aren't funny enough for you, Mr. Misogynist Pants.
Right.
My judgement has nothing to do with Alicia Silverstone's complete lack of talent or Melissa McCarthy's inability to do anything outside John Belushi, Chris Farley, or even Kevin James' shadow.
I'll fight you over Maria Bamford.
Bridesmaids commits the ultimate sin of making fun of Don Draper (and it's hilarious)
"Boom! What's up, fuckbuddy?"
also, speaking of movies with Maya Rudolph, what about Idiocracy???
While Idiocracy had a great concept, a lot got lost in the execution.
It's not a great movie but it's very funny and quotable
While Idiocracy had a great concept, a lot got lost in the execution.
I wish this painfully wrong comment could experience some execution.
While Idiocracy had a great concept, a lot got lost in the execution.
Too many low brow poop jokes for my sophisticated tastes.
While I was able to look past it, the dildo monster trucks were deus ex machina for me. Everything else seemed like a good stepwise progression from some semblance of sense into nonsense except that. It just seemed gratuitous and I couldn't rationalize why.
Clueless and Bridesmaids are both pretty damn good, son.
Markup fails me.
If there were one movie I would fully strike from the list it would be Borat.
While I don't think Bridesmaids should be stricken from the list, it seems odd that it's above The Hangover (and below Clueless) and that the list entirely lacks a Peter Segal film, despite Feig/McCarthy rather blatantly ripping off Segal/Farley's schtick (including being rather one dimensional).
If a list contains When Harry Met Sally I can see how it would contain Mean Girls and Clueless I can't fathom how it's above Ghostbusters, Caddyshack, Animal House, Pulp Fiction, etc., etc.
Agreed. Holy shit was that painfully unfunny.
Clueless is a classic and, while perhaps not deserving a spot above some of those movies, looks about right at 34.
I haven't seen Mean Girls, but people with good taste insist that it's very funny.
I haven't seen Mean Girls, but people with good taste insist that it's very funny.
Apparently, it's just me, I very much hate Clueless. The only decent actors/actresses are in secondary or lower roles and are surrounded by a complete lack of talent and/or storyline. There are a half-dozen other vapid teen rom-coms of similar writing and better caliber acting out there.
I'd probably have Bridesmaids, Mean Girls, and Clueless in that order. Most likely above Pulp Fiction and definitely above Borat.
It was bland, yes, but no storyline? It's a modern adaptation of Emma!
Bridesmaids was funny. 44? I guess, why not? But Team America is top 10, sorry. And 3 of the top 10 better be Mel Brooks movies.
A glaring omission: Dumb & Dumber. Also, There's Something About Mary at 81 is ridic.*
*short for ridiculous.
I wasn't going to complain that Wayne's World is absent, but looking at some of the other movies that made the list, I need to take some Nuprin.
And the hell is In The Loop doing at 70?? Do the French and Chinese critics not understand it?
A lot of the 60s comedies got left out, too - like The Odd Couple and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World, and the The Russians Are Coming The Russians Are Coming, and my guess is because they were too Jew-ey.
my guess is because they were too Jew-ey.
SJW tomfoolery would explain much of the list, IMO.
Of course, but they're still fun to "debate."
And How to Get Ahead in Advertising.
The list is bogus. No O Brother, Where Art Thou?
New DNA evidence has cast doubt on Williams conviction, leading to calls for his execution to be halted.
The governor is making a prosecutor look bad. I didn't think they were allowed to do that.
The Oregon coast's short-lived eclipse bubble pops.
That really seemed to have staying power, too.
I don't mind raising prices in general, but to cancel a reservation just to void an old price is something I'd see them in small claims court for.
Couldn't have happened to a group of lefty anti-free marketers who bash free market, especially when they fail at having a good business plan.
Black lawmakers launch a 'root out racism' campaign, which is reportedly designed to hold the Trump administration accountable for his controversial actions and rhetoric on race.
Racism is deeply unamerican. So we should call the group made from this the Unamerican Activities Committee.
'root out racism'
That's about as fascist as it gets. It'll be like the red scare only the commies will be the one's looking through the sights.
"Black lawmakers"
Racism fail at its inception.
George and Amal Clooney are donating $1 million to the Southern Poverty Law Center
BZZZZZTT!!!
How many Mel Gibson-esque rants would that cover?
So they are donating to encourage hate?
Black lawmakers launch a 'root out racism' campaign, which is reportedly designed to hold the Trump administration accountable for his controversial actions and rhetoric on race.
It worked exceptionally well against the witches -- bitches don't even show their faces these days.
LOL
A neo-con presents his shorter list: The Greatest Comedies of All Time
His is more accurate.
'Raising Arizona' is not even one of the two funniest Coen movies.
Their lesser known 'Raising money to pay my bet' was a hoot.
Rufus the Conservative Moron thinks racist Nazi/fascists Jew Killers are "socialists" because their propaganda said they treat everyone equally.
There is nothing farther to the right than an Aryan supremacist, moron.
Right-wing politics hold that certain social orders and hierarchies are inevitable, natural, normal, or desirable,[1][2][3] typically supporting this position on the basis of natural law, economics or tradition.
the very definition of "right wing"
Bullshit. The whole right/left dichotomy is farcical. I prefer up and down.
You've got collectivism and you've got individualism.
From collectivism arises all the usual suspects. All downers.
So, you still haven't paid your bet.
Apparently you think being a white supremacist and being a socialist are mutually exclusive.
Shreek watched No Country for Old Men and he laughed and laughed.
He told me The Man Who Wasn't There was a "laugh-out-loud riot."
He called Blood Simple, "Blood Pissingly Funny."
But there's no knee-slapper like the grave-digging scene in Miller's Crossing.
And what is the execution scene in the original Robocop, chopped liver nothing?
'Look in your heart!!!' Had me in stitches!
He celebrates Halloween by dressing up as John Goodman's character from Barton Fink and getting kicked out of parties.
I'LL SHOW YOU THE LIFE OF THE MIND!
The guy with the weird haircut said "friendo." Plus, Woody Harrelson and Stephen Root, always funny.
Jimmy James is king.
Both lists missed Police Academy, both lists are worthless to me.
Agreed that this list is more accurate, with the caveat that Brazil, while one of the greatest and most prophetic movies ever made, is only funny in very, very painful ways.
And Time Bandits is the much funnier Terry Gilliam movie.
YES.
I knew there was a glaring omission in that list that was nagging at me.
Thank you.
I would have also gone with The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Loved that movie as a kid.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is the greatest comedy ever made while also being brilliant social commentary.
Police seize stash of Trump-shaped ecstasy tablets
How dare they!
The Oregon coast's short-lived eclipse bubble pops.
Oregon didn't want to be tainted with icky profits anyway so it's all G.
All g in h.
Bernie Sanders: 'Trump Country' Issues 'Not Any Different' From California's Issues
Haha, no it doesn't you old silly willy.
I wish the founding fathers would rise out of their graves and slap some sense into people like this. F--k.
Please, it would be F*CK THIS.
He said "it's not a crazy ideology"!!!!
He likes us! He really likes us!
He gets my vote in 2020.
Still better than Hillary.
This guy makes Donald Trump sound articulate.
@RichardBSpencer
The aptly named military "fatigues" make U.S. soldiers look like lazy slobs wearing sweatpants.
#Afghanistan
That seems like a lawsuit to me.
Depends on the contract. It's definitely a bullshit thing though that should draw it.
Curious about the law. Hotels overbook all the time - which amounts to the same thing - but are the obligated to find you another place? In my hotel jobs we always managed to find another room for the people who showed up too late.
If a hotel canceled my reservation and then booked ANY further reservations at a higher price, I'd be in small claims court so fats their cash register would spin backwards. Overbooking is one thing, but cancel the later reservations -- first come, first served. I'd be pissed as heel and willing to pay the expense of traveling to small claims court, and maybe do a little discovery to find out who else they shafted and turn it into a read bad day for them.
You know how to take a reservation... it's the holding that you don't seem to have down.
Yeah, you better give me the insurance because I'm going to beat the HELL out of this thing.
Gym teacher, 31, sentenced for cemetery sex romp with teen boy students
High five?
The sex was spooky their dick puked up a ghost.
Boo Goo.
Ectoplasm!
Black lawmakers are launching a "root out racism" campaign this week that they say is intended to hold the Trump administration accountable for its actions on race.
"Actions on race". "Actions on race". "Actions on race".
Nope, still not getting what this is about.
Your first one sounds like a call for interracial lovemaking.
If so, I am fully for it.
If so, I am fully for it.
Remember Nicole Brown!
I still can't believe all the trouble that Bitch Nicole Brown stirred up for THE JUICE.
Well, it *is* "root-out racism".

OT: In case you were wondering, Trevor Noah is still an unfunny, disingenuous weasel.
Noah charged Trump, whom he snapped has "41 months to go," has "officially legitimized white supremacists, basically saying said we need to see things from the Nazis' point of view, you know, march a mile in their boots."
Noah noted a poll showing 67% of Republicans approved of the way Trump handled Charlottesville as showing the GOP "has a lot of camels ? Anyone can fart ? But it takes a special group of people, two-thirds of them to be like," he sniffed, "nicely done, I like the way you handled that; that was nice."
He added, "If so many of Trump supporters are willing to give Nazis the benefit of the doubt, then clearly anything goes. There is no line that they won't cross, and clearly no cross that they won't burn."
No, this basically never happened, Trevor. Basically, what planet are you living on?
Do you want me to send for your fainting couch?
Never watched his show but holy hell that is one punch-face.
Smug (and stupid) is as smug (and stupid) does.
Hollywood parents stunned as teacher is arrested for sex assault over alleged affair with 16-year-old male student at $40,000-a-year Brentwood school attended by Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart's son
WHO ELSE WENT THERE
Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart's son
Adam Levine
How prestigious.
I wish to rewind the time clock and attend these schools.
I'm not going to click but have a question:
Are they "stunned" by the sex or "stunned" by the silly arrest?
OT: We can't do re-enactments anymore because it might trigger antifa.
Is not there a word for committing acts of violence towards political ends and in order to change the behavior of a population through fear?
CNN: Those re-enactors were all Nazis anyways
The Nazis were just German Confederates: gray uniforms, slave labor, submarine warfare, hatred of Yankees...
The raging marauders have now frightened people into cancelling a Civil War reenactment for fear that the presence of Confederate symbols would be too triggering for some
Here's a thought: "Some" just stay TF away.
Yes, but the word depends on which side you're on.
Yep. The failed left-wing scum can't win elections anymore, so their new tactic is intimidating and terrorizing people. And it's rather dismaying to see it work. They should be told "You lost, go fuck off."
People can't really be scared of the antifa crowd.
I saw a kid in a Subway in my neighborhood on Sunday who had just walked over from the local antifa rally, and I shit you not, he was dressed like Humpty Dumpty.
The Red Guard portion of the Antifa movement* is setting off alarm bells on a number of levels.
*Not sure if they're officially part of the movement, but there's plenty of supportive cross-talk out there.
What with their airsoft rifles.
Are they airsoft? I can't tell by the picture.
Certainly the bayonet on an AK-47 looks a little... obnoxious, but the shotguns and woodgrain certainly give the impression of both authentic and rag tag.
They were afraid the Confederates might get hold of some S'more Schnapps and win this time.
What the hell is a "Britschgi"?
It's a kind of dumpling my mother used to make.
I think it's the Basque word for "pants."
British cisgender gimp.
George and Amal Clooney are donating $1 million to the Southern Poverty Law Center to fight hate groups in wake of the violence in Charlottesville, Va.
Was Charlottesville the Democrats' 9/11?
I see JD is still closest to libertarian this place has to offer.
Justice Dredd?
He's Zach Braff's character from Scrubs.
'Judge Dredd', you illiterate
He got promoted after killing Cersei.
"I hate the LAW" - Judge TooChili
He's certainly not a cosmo.
They oughta start publishing John's commentary.
George Clooney donates a million dollars to combat hate groups.
I suspect it's the SPLC. They hate everyone to the right of Karl Marx. But they will never make it on to one of their own "hate" lists.
No need to suspect. It is explicit in the article.
Who reads the articles?
They are the only things I read. I don't even read the comments and just respond by chance. If this makes sense as a response it is pure coincidence.
Your giraffe is leaking yellow.
Also, I'd like to be serious for once and talk about how the sequel to the best game of the year is coming out.
You still have time to preorder your copy, as well as the upcoming actual sequel in 2018. If you haven't played Yakuza 0, I implore you to get your life together.
Wow, never even heard of it. I'm still getting through Horizon Zero Dawn which is excellent by the way.
(see what I did there?)
No, I don't see what you did there. And I have no time to see as I must implore you to play Yakuza 0, it is great.
I was attempting to change the subject from a game you wanted to talk about, to a game I wanted to talk about.
I want to play HZD, I just haven't gotten it yet. Maybe after Ys 8. It's been a good year.
So, real talk, what would you compare HZD to? Because I tend to not like these largish open-world games like AC or Gothic or whatever.
Oh, hmm, if you don't like the largish open-world games, then I would probably advise you stay away. If I had to compare it to anything current, I'd say it flows a lot like The Witcher III.
However, its story, lore and richness of the combat system are entirely new. It's not easy to come out with a totally original IP these days, but Gorilla Games did it on this one.
I will definitely play it to some extent. I feel mixed about Open-World games, as some people consider GTA to be open-world and I am a big fan of those modern city ones. GTA, Saints Row, Sleeping Dogs. Yakuza arguably is, though I think of it as modern River City Ransom.
So backlogged on gaming that I can hardly look forward to new stuff when I have still wrapped old stuff to play.
More important than any of these garbage games you're all talking about: will Nintendo get off their asses and produce enough SNES Classics to satisfy demand?
No. No they won't. Because Nintendo is one of the least fan friendly companies I can think of it.
My advice, buy an Everdrive.
Black lawmakers launch a 'root out racism' root out wrongthink campaign, which is reportedly designed to hold the Trump administration accountable for his controversial actions and rhetoric on race.
Which have yet to manifest.
Outrage that WSP recruiting ads showing up on websites that engage in wrongthink.
Not enough people are upset to see police departments recruiting period.
"We're not buying ad space on Breitbart News," State Patrol spokesman Kyle Moore said Tuesday. "It was a Facebook ad that followed the user."
Funny that these hysterics are a lot more worried about cops advertising on Breitbart than Facebook's crass data-mining for ad revenue.
Bastiat is smiling from Heaven. Or laughing his ass off.
A hot new email scandal: De Blasio used personal email for official NYC business
"unofficial city guidelines on public official's use of email."
Not to defend DeBlase' but what the hell is an unofficial guideline?
So Trumpen-Fuhrer is having an Aryan Rally tonight in Phoenix and Mitch McConnell is wisely putting as much distance between he and POTUS as he can.
Mr. McConnell has fumed over Mr. Trump's regular threats against fellow Republicans and criticism of Senate rules, and questioned Mr. Trump's understanding of the presidency in a public speech. Mr. McConnell has made sharper comments in private, describing Mr. Trump as entirely unwilling to learn the basics of governing.
In offhand remarks, Mr. McConnell has expressed a sense of bewilderment about where Mr. Trump's presidency may be headed, and has mused about whether Mr. Trump will be in a position to lead the Republican Party into next year's elections and beyond, according to people who have spoken to him directly.
NY Times 8/22/17
So Trumpen-Fuhrer is having an Aryan Rally tonight in Phoenix
Hyperbole without snark is simply dishonest. You're entire essence is combative, it serves no practical use outside of war. The war you want would be a terrible and evil.
Ain't no Aryan's in Phoenix.
Yes, he is going to capture Flake and sacrifice him to Odin, or something.
McConnell is in full CYA mode. When it comes to uncertain futures, he leads the pack. Saw an article today putting him at 18% approval in KENTUCKY.
Also, Shreek still can't bring himself to condemn antifa. Haven't seen it once, and I've asked several times.
In 'how ESPN is single-handedly killing Disney' news:
To avoid offending left wing idiots Robert Lee, the Asian college football announcer, not the Confederate General who died in 1870 and shares a name with him, was switched to the Youngstown State at Pittsburgh game and Dave Weekley will now call the William and Mary at University of Virginia game.
Complete morons
George Clooney donates a million dollars to combat hate groups.
They gave it to the SPLC. They are doing it all kinds of wrong.
Looking forward to SPLC going into combat with ACLU. There will be some exploding heads in Hollywood.
