For 30 years, Lexa King has cultivated the azaleas outside her Atlanta home. But someone recently made an anonymous complaint to city code enforcement. A code enforcement officer cited her for having an overgrown yard. She faces up to 60 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Every offense in Georgia is a misdemeanor or felony, so this "offense" was a misdemeanor and that is clearly excessive. Georgia does not have infractions (penalty being only monetary) like some states.

Looking at her lawn in the clip, I thought the azalea part was just a line - she's got overgrown ornamental grasses and flowers all over the front yard that do look kinda messy.

But no! She has a side yard of shrubs and trees that looks exactly like a side yard full of azaleas and trees. That's what they cited her for. They've kinda lost their minds.

That area is a normal yard style in Georgia - the wooded area with azalea and dogwood understories. Common as red clay throughout the south.

Yeah, that was my thought when I opened the link and saw the picture. Like it or not, most cities would cite her over the grass / weeds that are obviously out of control. But the azaleas are the problem? WTF?

Maybe, maybe not. In our city, city staff will not cite a violation they happen to see unless a citizen makes a complaint.

Local oppressive regulations are great until they affect you, which is what these little fascists don't think about.

The South is full of Democrats who are okay with Nanny-State rules and Republicans who are fine with Police-State rules. Together they make rules that cause situations like this.
