Students Hold Free Speech Events, Get Denounced as White Supremacists
Administrators cancelled their event after a drawing of Pepe the Frog was found on their "free speech ball."

Faculty and students at Linfield College have compared the campus chapter of Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) to terrorists and denounced them as white supremacists. Why? Because the libertarian student group attempted to host a series of free speech events at the small liberal arts college in McMinnville, Oregon.
The story begins in April, when YAL members set up a table on campus to promote both their newly formed group and a series of "speak freely" events they were sponsoring. Keifer Smith, vice president of the chapter, brought along an inflatable "free speech ball" and invited students to write whatever they wanted on it.
"The majority of the things written on there were uplifting things, not political, not inflammatory at all," Smith reports: comments like "you're awesome" and "have a nice day." But one person drew Pepe—a cartoon frog that some alt-right trolls have adopted as a symbol—and so the YAL chapter quickly became the focal point of campus outrage.
"Immediately we were deemed alt-right," says Smith. They were even called white supremacists.
The Linfield Advisory Committee on Diversity responded to the Pepe doodle by inviting the chapter to a free speech forum. According to Smith, this was supposed to be an hour-long discussion of the general idea of open expression—but quickly morphed into a four-hour denunciation of him and his group for their supposed intolerance.
Next the school declared that it would be cancelling an upcoming event in the "speak freely" series—a talk on ethics and free speech by the University of Toronto psychologist Jordan Peterson. The libertarian group was told the paperwork for the event had been turned in a day late; the school also cited tweets from Peterson promoting what was supposed to be a private event for Linfield students and faculty.
Meanwhile, faculty lashed out at the YAL chapter in the campus paper, The Linfield Review.
"The agenda of groups like Alt-Right and campus clubs that are either supported by the Alt-right or providing a platform for the Alt-Right is clear," wrote Reshmi Dutt-Ballerstadt, a professor of English and the co-coordinator of the school's gender studies program. "They want to challenge college campuses for their numerous diversity and inclusion initiatives that provide a legitimate space for ideas and knowledge base that have been historically marginalized and excluded."
At the free speech forum, Dutt-Ballerstadt had accused Smith and his group of being funded by "alt-right dark money."
Similar sentiments were expressed by Linfield's dean of faculty, Dawn Nowacki. Nowacki admitted that she didn't know any times anyone in the YAL chapter had expressed anything racist or misogynist, but she insisted they still posed a threat. "These efforts are a lot more subtle," she wrote. "Just as becoming a terrorist is a gradual, step by step process, people do not become part of the alt right overnight. These events represent a kind of soft recruitment into more extremist ideas."
Undeterred, the chapter moved the Peterson lecture to an off-campus venue. "We were really only planning on having maybe 100 people, maybe 200 people," Smith recalls. Instead over 400 folks turned up, and a YouTube version has so far gotten nearly 90,000 views.
Smith says he hopes to keep providing a forum for students to express otherwise maligned and unpopular viewpoints. As for the professors and students who have denounced him, Smith says their rhetoric is part of an open campus discourse too: "That's the price you pay for free speech."

This is what I expect now, as regular as football on Sundays.
Who's playing this weekend?
NFL network reruns.
No spoilers!
These "free speech" terrorists should be jailed for their crimes. Surely no one here would dare to defend the "First Amendment dissent" of a single, isolated judge in our nation's leading criminal "satire" case? See the documentation at:

Cultural Marxist College vs. SnowFlake St.
Yeah, but what about all those other stories from similar institutions across the country? Why isn't Reason covering those? A certain Irene Holmes at the Pilgrim Psychiatric Center accused a nurse of being a demon and then ran down the hallway naked and hitting everyone with a wooden spoon. And one Roger Nuttall at the Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital wrote seven swastikas with his own feces on the dining room doors and then subjected the whole floor to a night-long glossolalia concerto in a tongue not heard in this millenium. Let's have some equal time!
Everyone knows that only the Nazi's endorsed free speech. This is known.
Calling the YAL white supremacists? What the hell are they going to do if they ever meet real white supremacists? Are their heads going to explode? What absolutely boggles my mind is that there are people out there who think white supremacists are in the habit of setting up tables on Oregon college campuses. I'm as white as they come, and to my knowledge have never even met a white supremacist. The world of these delusional students must be an awfully scary place.
I knew some back in high school, during the skinhead vogue (mid-80s), although they didn't seem to realize they were supposed to be white supremacists until they saw a big expose in Time and kicked the black guy out of the gang. They started wearing swastikas until they got tired of getting beaten up at the punk shows over and over, and so turned to country western.
So, yeah - if you have this image of "white supremacists" as some kids handing out leaflets at a small liberal arts college, you don't actually know what a white supremacist is.
What's really ridiculous, is their constant labeling of people as white supremecists is actually normalizing white supremacy behavior. Seriously got an american nazi party flyer stuck to my car while I was at a Target in suburban Chicago a week and a half ago...that crap wasn't happening before this weird "everyone who disagrees with me is a nazi" narrative started.
The regressive left has essentially been giving white nationalists free advertising by constantly associating it with the Trump presidency.
They're so bored, self-righteous, sheltered and lacking in any real drama that they desperately WANT a hatewave of white nationalist Nazis to exist solely reinforce their own sad fantasies of being scrappy, underdog anti-fascism warriors. You don't need to look any further than the surge of hate crime hoaxes as proof.
The Leftist are purposefully changing what the phrase "White Supremacist" means. Essentially for the Radical Marxist campus intelligentsia the new meaning is ANY White European ( this includes Ashkenazim Jews) that does not endorse their ideology is a White Supremacist.
As a "Marxist campus intelligentsia" that has the gall to be European to boot, even I find this behaviour appalling.
Another couple of dozen reasonable people will be ushered straight into the arms of the real alt-right due to these idiotic "monkey with a shotgun" SJWs.
American leftism has really gone full retard, no wonder you guys hate us!
It seems unless you're sufficiently "woke" and shit bricks over "white privilege", you're a member of the Klan.
The fact that there are many professors on most
of the college campuses that don't understand
free speech or academic freedom and support
the students or egg them on is what I find
so disturbing.
Why are non-whites so afraid of dialogue and/or debate? It's clearly reached the realm of pure terror for them thus the application of the word "terrorist" to any who would encourage discussion.
It's strange to me -- I do think the fear of discussion goes hand in hand with the denouncement of mathematics as evil. Honestly all I can think at this point is that the public school system failed to educate a fuck ton of people -- and they are too full of pride and smoke blown up the asshole that they cannot, will not, entertain the notion that they are simply bad at academics. And this notion is reinforced by the fact that it's virtually impossible to be expelled or 'left behind' a year in today's school system; so why should they ever question their academic skill?

Because they think less of darker-hued folks than the Klan ever did.

Why aren't Republicans working on simply withdrawing funding from any school that doesn't fully respect civil rights?
Why aren't Republicans working on simply withdrawing funding from any school that doesn't fully respect civil rights?
They're still afraid of being called "racist".
I don't think they are. This has its source solidly in white bourgeois liberals' fear of dialogue, because increasingly they are exposed by dialogue as being illiberal and racist.
The agitation among the students I think you diagnose quite correctly:
These are the most angry and visible people, and the ones that have most internalized those parts of bourgeois liberalism that don't stand up to scrutiny and discussion. IOW, it's a worldview that appeals to underperforming minorities and the white liberal professors who get a rush out of "helping" them, while the minorities that perform well just get their degrees and move on to their careers.
This has its source solidly in white bourgeois liberals' fear of dialogue, because increasingly they are exposed by dialogue as being illiberal and racist.
Yep. Frankly this is why I try my hardest not to use the term 'liberal' when talking about these people. In my view, it's a disservice to liberals. Conservatives just can't seem to understand that there's even a difference.
I agree - I tend to favor the term Progressive, because it's more accurate in its implication of "I know what's best for everyone, and it's not freedom." I wish more people could accurately be described as "liberals."
The "Conservative" use of "liberal" is very much like the "Liberal" use of "Capitalist." Written into it is "I don't care about nit-picking distinctions between all you wrongthinking people."
I tend to think using the word "Leftist" instead of "liberal". Do you think that is misleading in any way?
That's what I use, personally. I can't even count the times I've told some fucko in a comment section "Go die in a fire, idiot leftist troll."
I'll add in that it is a mainstream progressive tactic these days. Recall, if you will, the Bernie Sanders rally that was hijacked by the young ladies from #BLM.
Why are non-whites so afraid of dialogue and/or debate?
For the most part, I don't think it's the non-whites who are pushing this campus PC bullshit, it's the super woke lily white (and usually rich kid) progressives who have appointed themselves to speak for those poor, marginalized, oppressed POC victims.
Which says more about their true feeling towards those "marginalized communities" they're always speaking out on behalf of than anything else. It's basically just "white man's burden" bullshit repackaged in modern Progressive rhetoric with heaping side order of white guilt.
Or what Square = Circle said. I should read the other replies first.
As long as math is on your side you win. Your tools and weapons work.
"Because the libertarian student group attempted to host a series of free speech events at the small liberal arts college in McMinnville, Oregon."
Oregon. I think I've found the problem.
'co-coordinator of the school's gender studies program.'
There's the other problem.
I'm thankful everyday that I went to a small technical oriented engineering university that didn't have a gender studies or any other victim's studies programs. The only reason we even had a humanities department was for the general ed requirements, and I think they kind of understood their place at the university.
To collect their indulgence. Can't we just replace small lib arts colleges with brightly colored rooms filled with hypoallergenic play-do and puppies, i.e. a proper day care? It has to be cheaper and the degree at the end will be as useful.
Oregon, like California, is pretty damned conservative once you get out of the urban/academic unreality zones. It's just Portland and Eugene enclaves that make it seem ultra leftist. Hell, get east of the Cascades and I think there's a law requires you to register Republican and own a gun.
Note that McMinnville is exactly in between Portland and Eugene.
McMinnville now hosts UFOlogists' gatherings, as it was the site of a famous early-fifties UFO photo set.

I'd hope YAL is beginning a defamation suit post haste.
The Linfield Advisory Committee on Diversity responded to the Pepe doodle by inviting the chapter to a free speech forum. According to Smith, this was supposed to be an hour-long discussion of the general idea of open expression?but quickly morphed into a four-hour denunciation of him and his group for their supposed intolerance.
I'd sue over that also. Unfair treatment, especially since the chapter didn't draw anything. If the school accepts ANY federal monies, they cannot simply stifle civil rights of their students.
Similar sentiments were expressed by Linfield's dean of faculty, Dawn Nowacki. Nowacki admitted that she didn't know any times anyone in the YAL chapter had expressed anything racist or misogynist, but she insisted they still posed a threat. This isn't defamation and slander...how?
At the very least I'd hope that FIRE is all over this.
Imma translate some of that wonderful projection.
I thought righty conspiracy-theorists were nuts...
"These efforts are a lot more subtle," she wrote. "Just as becoming a terrorist is a gradual, step by step process, people do not become part of the alt right overnight. These events represent a kind of soft recruitment into more extremist ideas."
The tri-lateral commission is clearly behind this... with funding from the Illuminati. They're threatening our Purity Of Education!!!!
tonight at The Pit, everyone gets laid...
Are you wearing the shirt of the band you're going to see? Don't be that guy.
So... someone, who may not have even been associated with YAL - drew a cartoon frog that some morons find offensive on a ball and the entire group gets branded "white supremacists?" What the fucking fuck?!
I'm sure member of YAL can expect to be given fair grades by these faculty members from now on. /sarc
OTOH, you know that the same logic would apply when you spin the ball around and find "Black Lives Matter" written on there. It would clearly be interpreted as YAL's support for the BLM movement, right?
Right?
This suggests one entertaining pastime might be to go around to all the lefty gatherings and covertly draw Pepe cartoons in strategic locations, then put it out on social media that these are people are all white supremicists.
"I may not be able to prove you're racists and misogynists, but I FEEL it, and that's good enough for me!" Christ, what a bitch.
I don't supposed it ever occurs to these pinhead simps that maybe labeling people as "white supremacists" who clearly aren't and then marginalizing them and suppressing their free speech rights might end up pushing some of them into more "extremist ideas," whatever the fuck that means. Seems more and more like any idea to the right of Joseph Stalin is labelled "extremist."
Yep and in the same vein those anti-fa morons' actions are lending legitimacy to the very organizations they decry.
Insert Archer meme with, "Do you want Nazis? Because this is how you get Nazis."
I had a comment about Islamophobia here, but I forgot what it was.
These events represent a kind of soft recruitment into more extremist ideas.
And we will not stand for any competition!
"I don't supposed it ever occurs to these pinhead simps..."
Of course it has. They obviously WANT white supremacists for them to oppose and help feed into their shabby psychodrama.
Over the campus PA: YAL, please report to the Ministry of Love... I mean the Advisory Committee on Diversity.. you are needed for recondi... I mean a dialog on diversity, we will be in Room 101.
Notice on the door to room 101;
"the meeting has been moved to the sub-basement, just beyond the metal detectors"
I never thought I'd live to see the day someone didn't get a 'Room 101' reference.
Perhaps they spent too much time in room 101.
Or they never actually read 1984.
To be fair it's only become relevant in a trump world.
Imagine a Birkenstock stomping an a human face forever.
on
Keeep behaving like this and progs may never win another election.
*outside of the coasts, that is.
Although a few exceptions must exist, in my academic career I have never met a university administrator who isn't a go-along-to-get-along, comfort-first moral coward. Mediocrity is all they know and they fear to stray far from the herd. In another time, in the US they would have been finger-wagging church goers. Today their individualism extends only to wearing a bow tie, maybe a fedora, and to grind their own fair-trade coffee is a bold statement. The idea of the Last Man fits them perfectly.
"They were even called white supremacists."
We will not have any name calling at a free speech event!
I know, right. Like you're a Stalinist boot-licker. But, that would be accurate, so...
It's not enjoyable being called a racist. It's natural to push back at an accusation that can easily ruin a career or destroy a reputation. Most of us probably believe that genuine racism is a bad quality for a person to have, even if we don't want to punch racists in the face or line them up in a ditch and shoot them, and would differ substantially on what constitutes racism (and a drawing of a frog sure as fuck doesn't)
Of course the alt-right's appeal is from shrugging their shoulders at those accusations rather than constantly playing defense the way the left wants their opponents to. So keep those accusations coming, it's working great!
And right over your head goes the point!
We will not have any name calling at a free speech event!
That's all they did, right? They just called them names, but they allowed them to continue with their next event though? No?
"They were even called white supremacists."
We will not have any rampant slandering of people at a free speech event!
FTFY, moron.
"The agenda of groups like Alt-Right and campus clubs that are either supported by the Alt-right or providing a platform for the Alt-Right is clear," wrote Remesi Dutt-Ballerstadt, a professor of English and the co-coordinator of the school's gender studies program.
"Remesi Dutt-Ballerstadt" is the best satirical name for a petty officious authoritarian since Vonnegut came up with "Diana Moon Glompers".
I dare say it makes "Dolores Umbridge" seem milquetoast in comparison
Sheesh. Last time I made a Harry Potter reference, I got called a nerd.
*walks away grumbling*
The fact that sentences like this exist is the heart of the problem
It sounds like something out of a Garrison Keillor story.
Not enough ketchup.
Is anyone surprised by this? Everyone to the right of Joseph Stalin is a 'Nazi' to these people. Pretend as you might that if you just sell-out a little bit of principle that these people will totally not attack you, the truth is that anyone who dissents is a 'Nazi' in their book and free to be persecuted and abused. But, keep pretending like libertarians can be above the fray.
And if you are not totally on board with Trump, then that makes you a Hillary-voting globalist America-hating librul in the eyes of the right. Tribalists gonna be tribal.
I don't know. No one's accusing National Review and Weekly Standard of being globalist America-hating liberals and they're not pro-Trump. I also don't recall these people using violence and slander to silence dissent. I suppose in your mind this is a fair comparison, but in reality it is not.
The Left isn't having their shit stopped and banned on campuses, however.
The Right tends to have their shit banned regularly.
It's apropos, because the real Nazis we're just barely to the right of Stalin.
At this point in time I'm going to advocate bulding walls around colleges and universities. Totally isolate them from polite society. No worries, if the President's daughter gets kidnapped, we can send in Snake Plisken...
Are you talking about the libertarian snowflakes crying over being called white supremacists?
Here comes Tony to call us all racists. And . . . watch set!
No, I'm talking about the libertarians who had their events cancelled and were tried in absentia in a kangaroo court.
"Next the school declared that it would be cancelling an upcoming event in the "speak freely" series..."
"Meanwhile, faculty lashed out at the YAL chapter..."
"At the free speech forum, Dutt-Ballerstadt had accused Smith and his group of being funded by "alt-right dark money."
"Dawn Nowacki. Nowacki admitted that she didn't know any times anyone in the YAL chapter had expressed anything racist or misogynist, but she insisted they still posed a threat."
Do please try to keep up!
Libertarians have generous patronage from two of the wealthiest human beings on earth. Why, this very magazine wouldn't exist without it. At least try succeeding in a free marketplace of ideas, then talk to me about the mean old lefties trying to shut your speech down.
What part of voluntary donations goes against a "free marketplace of ideas?" Should we reject out of hand anything said by an organization that takes money from George Soros?
Are you really arguing that it's okay to shut down the speech of people advocating liberalism because in your opinion their ideas are not not popular enough to warrant first amendment protection?
Because it really sounds like that's what you're arguing.
Tony's not arguing anything, he's sneezing on a keyboard until something resembling English prose comes out.
Libertarians have generous patronage from two of the wealthiest human beings on earth.
"Individual donors gave 0 large ($200+) contributions to this PAC in 2015-2016."
And leftist bureaucrats get to take more money from everyone by force than all of Forbes 400 combined to selectively redistribute to institutions that peddle their ideology, while 'denying access' for those that don't. Some marketplace of ideas.
Tony's always struggled with what we mean when we say "free market". I would guess he also struggles with the idea of natural rights
No need to guess - he's famous around here for his commitment to the idea that rights emanate from government, and government alone.
My guess is Tony read Leviathan in a freshman polisci course and has been a dogmatic Hobbesian ever since.
Tony struggles to add small numbers together.
Pointing out that the university student body and the useful idiots in the administration are behaving like proto-Marxists is hardly crying, but do whatever you need to do to rationalize these decidiedly illiberal actions.
Tony is of the Leninist persuasion that criticizing Rightthinking people is akin to imposing your will on them, while imposing your will on wrongthinking people is akin to constructive criticism.
Hence why every time Reason publishes an article criticizing a leftist for being retarded his go to response is to get indignant as thought they had called for said retard(s) to have their tongues cut out.
The distinction between criticism and coercion literally does not exist in his mind. It's a common problem among his ilk. It's why they both cannot countenance nonviolent criticism themselves and why they see no issue with the coercion of others.
Aka "your speech is violence, my violence is speech" bullshit.
when your in college and you start interviewing for jobs in the real world and the interviewer ask what social groups you belonged to and be a member of a group wrongfully attributed to racism can have a real impact on a person employability.
Calling people what they aren't seems like it might have libel written all over it. A discussion that occurred on this sight a few days ago. a case where slander causes harm.
"LIBURTARIANZ R DUH REEL SNOFLAKES!!"
Are you talking about the libertarian snowflakes crying over being called white supremacists?
Undeterred, the chapter moved the Peterson lecture to an off-campus venue. "We were really only planning on having maybe 100 people, maybe 200 people," [Chapter VP] Smith recalls.
Where, precisely, is the crying by them?
The only people being irrational, as usual, are the Progs.
So the Linfield U administrators don't seem to get the idea behind free speech. Or that just because you provide a venue for someone else to speak, you don't necessarily agree with everything that's said (that's the point).
So I suppose the NYT (or any other media organization) is racist because there are racist comments in the comments sections of their web sites? And (following up on CynAss's comment above) whose to say the Pepe drawing wasn't put there by a progressive just trying to smear YAL?
The NYT moderates their comments.
So you're saying that their free speech beach ball should have been a moderated speech beach ball?
"Write what you want on our beach ball! If we don't like it we'll erase it!"
You know who else moderated comments?
Certainly not Donald Trump.
That's interesting about the NYT -- I'm not an avid reader, just an occasional voyeur.
The idea still applies to any organization that doesn't moderate.
"Just as becoming a terrorist is a gradual, step by step process, people do not become part of the alt right overnight. These events represent a kind of soft recruitment into more extremist ideas."
That's true. Only after repeated attempts by statists does someone become embittered enough to become the same marginalized people the statists proclaim to represent.
Sounds like she's saying that free speech is a gateway drug to Totalitarianism.
Nothing terrifies a college administration these days like an organization with the word 'liberty' in the name.
Something something... "racist dog-whistle"... mumble mumble...
Linfield it's a private liberal arts college. I can't really be arsed to give a damn.
Funny, you seem to care a lot what private organizations do when you disagree with them. You in fact seem to care enough to want to force them to do things they don't want to do at times.
Only if you ignore the nuance of what I say to turn me into a strawman.
There's potentially an interesting debate to be had about free speech and private property, but it's certainly not clear that "private" universities here are ever truly private
If their tuition model is dependent on government-backed student loans, I'd argue that the "private" designation is pure semantics.
Think these "private" universities could survive without federal funding? Maybe the Ivy League and similar schools, which at this point are basically hedge funds that run schools as a hobby. The rest? Not a chance in hell.
Hey, you can cross that bridge if you want. But that makes all those "private" religious schools fair game for how they discriminate too.
All this is why I don't fear these so-called future leaders. The only thing they can handle is their own kind; the slightest intrusion of reality makes them break out in a cold sweat. They lie to themselves, each other, and the world.
They will never become leaders of anything useful. They will write blogs without allowing comments except from each other, and they are incapable of ever learning anything because they can't even accept the idea that there s anything outside their safe space.
Remember that famous map of the world from New York City, where everything outside Manhattan island was over the horizon? These guys think that's too expansive.
They will write blogs without allowing comments except from each other
But enough about the glibertarians. Splitters!

I'm starting to like the idea of responding to false accusations of racism/sexism/whateverism with: "What if I am?"
"I know you are, but what am I?"
Here's YAL's website if you want to join up or donate: http://www.yaliberty.org
Reshmi Dutt-Ballerstadt
Why couldn't it have been Butt-Ballerstadt?
Isn't Ballerstadt the city in Germany founded by that Pickup-Artist guy?
So, the Left has evolved from "hate speech is not free speech" to "free speech is hate speech". Predictable.
Soon - "speech is hate."
As I heard said recently: truth is hate speech to those that hate the truth.
"""Immediately we were deemed alt-right,""
The left can not convince me they are intellectual until they quit using generalization fallacies.
LOL. They don't want to 'convince' you of anything. They want to make you shut up.
And if you don't have anything to say? They'll find something else to 'address.'
Ultimately they are about nothing other than compulsion.
"...that provide a legitimate space for ideas and knowledge base that have been historically marginalized and excluded"
I'm pretty sure libertarianism meets those criteria.
It's the ultimate irony that something written on a "free speech" ball is being used against a group to deny them speech.
Pepe is not a hate symbol you fucking leftist idiots. Pepe has been around for a decade and there are thousands of different pepe memes.
But then again, anything the left doesn't understand or doesn't care to understand is just "hate", "racism", etc. Pretty smart way to avoid all responsibility for thinking
As someone who's generally left, I have to say I've never actually met anyone who thinks Pepe is a racist symbol. It only seems to exist on the internet.
"...anything the left doesn't understand or doesn't care to understand..."
The result of having no allegiance to truth or meaning is that they don't have to understand anything.
Don't like something? Redefine it. It is their way.
400 people turned up for an event that had been expected to draw 100 or 200, and the YouTube video has gotten 90,000 views. I guess campus leftists don't know about the Streisand Effect.
The only solution to this is to defund public education to the greatest extent possible. The left only understands one thing: lost money from the public coffers.
Get Denounced as 'White Supremacists'
To be fair, this is just the evolution of name-calling by proggies that results from them being beaten in a argument.
Since the alt-left likes to use labels for groups and fascist is one of their favorites I've decided to call all these college teachers and lefties " commie - fascists."
How "diverse" is a conversation or group that represses another group?
This is about authoritarian power. These kids are being bullshitted into thinking that authority can make rules, call them "laws" that will make it safe for everyone. They are not being taught anything other than a rather limited statist concept of "justice".
If they were to actually see the history of these United States rather than the nonsense that is taught in school, including college, they would realize what I've been blessed to see since they attempted to indoctrinate me in the 70's.
History is written by the "victors". Never more obvious than today. Fortunately, if these kids will give up on pokemon and actually look beyond the kodachrome they are given (crap they learned in high school), they will see that this English professor and school administrator are either blind or complicit with this ruse.
Nothing like a little experience to bring the light through.
There are entire courses based on the concept that history is written by the victors. You'll be shocked to learn that they don't actually disagree with you.
Please don't assign a set of motives to an entire group of people based on the loudmouth actions of a few. And in exchange, we'll promise not to assume that all libertarians are violent and selfish because of the actions of a few.
Freedom: A Gateway Drug to Nazism
Inside story: as a parent, what should you do if your child is experimenting with freedom?
Make him stand in the corner.
Wouldn't they be green supremacists?
This is the sad result of an entire generation of uncritical thinkers who've been granted advanced degrees and educational leadership positions.
At least they don't disguise their contempt for free speech. There's no "I support free speech, but..." from these people.
Fucking control freak, fascist, commie progtards show their "tolerance" yet again. I hate these fucking people with a bleed seething rage, a bunch of bottom feeding hypocrites and assholes, wouldn't shed a tear if any of the leftard "professors" or "administrators" died in a freak accident.
Amen.
Did it occur even once to the powers that be at this university that person who drew the 'Pepe' image didn't know it was supposedly linked to the 'Alt-right'? I see that stoner frog meme all over the place, used in completely benign contexts. 'Cause, you know, its a stoner frog. Today was literally the first time I'd heard that it had any connection to anything other than stoner humor.
The Left hates everybody who disagrees with them and uses the power of the State to silence them... This is just another example.
Why does Reason continually use places like Linfield College (what?) as a representative for higher education as a whole? That would be like using McDonalds employees as a representative for the US sales force.
I hate to say it this way, but you get on the faculty at Linfield College because everybody else rejected your application. Their opinions should be taken with a grain of salt.
One might also point out that the term "alt-right" itself is a creation of the left. The first person to use it (to my knowledge) was Hillary. It was a demonstration of Alinsky's credo of "name it, freeze it". If you asked anyone leveling the charge of "alt-right" against any person or group to explain it you would doubtless get only caricatures and empty phrases.
